Village Fish Bar in Shropshire

Just very mediocre. Poor quality fish and soggy chips. Overcooked sausage. Was empty on a Saturday night which is an ominous sign. Looks like it's up for sale and they're not really trying.

Ordered food from them it was 3 hours late when the food came it was cold soggy and the Donna meat was like leather called for a refund got told manager would call me the next morning a week later and still had no call wouldn't recommend getting food from them unless you are homeless

Worst fish and chips for a while, avoid!

We arrived around 6.30 pm and there was no food available or sorted. We ordered two bags of chips and we were so disappointed cold and probs oh out of a frozen bag . It was a lot of money for cold potatoes .

Ordered 2 times from there. Food turned up cold. Both times.

This was probably the worst meal I have had in years I had large fish and chips the fish was 2” wide more like a fish finger I said that’s not large he said it’s the way it’s cut so I ordered a normal one to and that was as thick as my finger I took a pic c but won’t let me post that. I asked for mushy peas and offered me baked beans. will never go back

We live 3 minutes drive away, and my husband drove down this evening at 5.30. The shop was empty, which may be significant. He arrived home to discover the chips were stone cold, and the 'small' fish which we had asked for were scrappy pieces oof rather chewy fish trimmings. We should have gone straight back. We have been happy in the past. Are there new owners of this place? This was on a Thursday evening, 6th August

The chef is a very nice person and the way he cooked the food was superbly done

Stopped on way home for chippy tea. After waiting 30mins for fish and chips and pie and chips, we get home to find: 1). Pie and chips covered in curry sauce (not ordered) 2). Chips not fully cooked 3). Fish overcooked one end and not cooked the other. Would have taken back if wasn’t a 30 min drive.

Very disappointing fish and chips, batter was awful, chips were horrible. The only edible part was the not so nice fish. The chips were put on the fish by bare hand.

Battered sausage chips both fresh and good curry sauce all good and tasty

Massive let down! Ordered the food via just eat and came relatively quickly, however the food was only partially warm (I don’t live very far from pontesbury) I started on my doner kebab which I would’ve rated a 6/10 just because of it not being that warm, however when I was eating it I felt something snag on my fork and I found an enormous hair!! (About 5-6 inches long) I immediately rung the fish bar to which they were very unhelpful as I wanted a refund, they offered me replacement food which I didn’t want as I was put off! They told me to pursue the refund through Just Eat which I am waiting on them to review the photos I’ve provided, there was a few other smaller things like my girlfriends pizza was very oily and there wasn’t much tomato purée on the base, and also my chips with gravy wasnt very warm and was bland tasting, I understand that the food won’t be perfect as it has been delivered and wasn’t fresh from the restaurant however it was most definitely half arsed from the restaurant as well!!

No way to run a business. Cooked the fish and chips then just left on the side going cold. When asked what’s going on I was told they are cooking more chips? Didn’t need or want anymore just need the ones that had just been cooked, they then tried to offer more free chips and curry sauce. The order was only for my kids so they’d have been wasted anyway. Why cook more and leave me waiting when the order was ready? I didn’t want extra free food to end up being wasted. Just sort out the initial order and keep people happy instead of telling them to wait wasting time and food. Very bizarre, got a refund and left to go to a proper business. Will never use them again!

Had hope for great chips yet when was absolutely disappointed. Tastes like cardboard and the portion size is far too small. Got a large and a medium to share with a family of 3 including a young child yet couldn’t even fill up one person.

Ordered a large cod, which was actually quite small for the price, the chips were only lukewarm like they had been cooked and left to stand. The curry sauce portion was quite small and it was runny with lumps in it.

Perfect spot for a doner kebab on a rainy day bike ride. The owners were incredibly kind and gave me water and let me sit inside a few minutes while it stormed outside. The kebab wrap was excellent with freshly chopped vegetables, tasty meat, and two sauces of my choosing. It’s great value for money and the people running it seem to take great pride in their work. The place is also spotless!

Closed again on a Saturday night, closes all of August, no way to run a business, wouldn't use it again if it does open, chips are awful and food isn't warm enough

A great fish n chip shop we discovered on our recent visit to Shropshire. It sells fish, chips, burgers, pizzas, kebabs, and takes telephone orders. The guy serving seemed to be on his own but our order (for seven people!) was made in a timely manner. All served in delightful small cardboard boxes which made for easy carrying and no washing up! Overall, I would highly recommend The Village Fish Bar. Cheap and cheerful and just what was needed when we didn't want to cook on holiday. The chips were excellent!

Possible the worst Fish and Chips i have ever attempted to eat!! Fish was tasteless with very soggy and slimy batter Chips like Cardboard more nutrition in the box. Most of the meal went in the bin. Avoid at all costs and save your money..

Currently, July 2022, the Fish Bar is excellent.

Large fish & chips. Fish had to be cooked fresh(I'm always happy when that is the case - gives a better chance of good food). On the positive side - food was hot. On the negative side fish was not in a nice batter and with a mediocre taste. Chips were just not nice.

Ok burger but had too take the chips back as we're barely warm. Given another portion which was again barely warm. Seemed they had been cooked and left a while. Not great

Ordered a sausage and didn't get one. The top of the bun for a burger was black and this isn't the first time

We've recently ordered from here a few times being local. I find it's best to order directly off of their website, rather than just eat or similar sites... Food is generous, hot tasty, salad is lovely and well seasoned. Delivery is always good time wise and polite drivers which is nice. Overall I'd recommend.

Since they've reopened we've had 3 orders all have been piping hot and very tasty. All our orders have been via the website for us to collect. We'll worth the drive.

I ordered from here today, via just eat, because I have heard that the portions and quality is OK for a fish shop. They called me asking for more money for delivery than Just Eat had charged. I told them to take it up with Just Eat. Needless to say the order was cancelled. I never order fatty foods so this made sure I don't try it again. Fairly disappointed

Robbing horrible people, ordered a £16 delivery on just eat from this restaurant, they called me after they accepted the order and told me they don’t deliver to this area and that I need to cancel the order, so I cancelled the order and contacted just eat about my refund and they told me I need to contact the restaurant for my refund, so I rang the restaurant several times to be told to ring back when the manager is in, they took my details and kept telling me the same thing every time I rang, I rang about a week and a half ago, and told them if my refund was not going to be given back I have no option other than to contact police, they told me they have already sent the refund and it will be in my bank in 5 days, it has now been 2 weeks I rang up yesterday and he being very rude and still continued to tell me that the boss wasn’t there and that he contacted just eat yesterday and nothing has been done I have contacted just eat and they have told me that they have not been in contact with the restaurant so I still have not got my money back! Discusting and the police have been contacted, thief’s !

Recently re opened again, chips were hot tasty and fresh, chicken burger and kebabs were nice and tasty, will be ordering again! A lot better food than last time they was open! I’ve already made my second order again after last time being fantastic 😄

Their online system is terrible with the fish bar shutting down online orders, 2.5 hours had passed without the delivery order. Unable to contact the place as they would not pick up any phone calls. Will never order from here again

We ordered a chippy and the food arrived with hairs all in it I rang to complain for them to tell me. They didn't speak English and I was to phone back in ten minutes and now there is no answer. I won't be returning!

Big fish portions. Really tasty

Ordered the usual of medium chips, chicken mushroom pie, chicken nuggets, chicken meat in a tray and a curry sauce. It's came to £4 more than we usually pay, the chips portion was half the size and dry the nuggets were definatly reformed, (not unusual) the pot of curry sauce was tiny and expensive but the chicken in a tray was very good, and big. And the people were very polite and friendly. Over all, not impressed, but not the worst.

Had a delight box, plenty for 2 adults and 2 kids, very tasty and fun to share. We ordered early and it was delivered very quickly at a reasonable price.

Had to wait for haddock to be cooked so it was very hot and fresh. Cod was in warming section so a little cool but heated up ok at home. Ditto chips. Both fish were skinless and batter nice and crispy. Exceeded our expectation. Will definitely use again.

Delicious! Great fresh fish and yummy chips. The guys threw in a free cheesy garlic bread as well which was super tasty and kind of them.

Called in last night, first visit with latest owners. Fish was too shaped to be fresh more likely frozen, batter was thin and greasy. Chips were not cooked. Nothing on display. Had to wait while it was cooked so expected a fresh well cooked meal. All went in the bin when I got home. Such a shame was an excellent place once.

Called here last night for fish and chips after being let down by another local establishment. Brought them home and crisped them again in the oven. Absolutely delicious and beautifully golden and fresh tasting. Would have given 5 stars if we could have paid by card.

Lost a good fish and chip shop, used to visit fort nightly. Tries several times but very poor. Batter not cooked properly. Chips half raw

Made a visit while stopping near buy,queue of about 7 people inside,not really much in the way of fish etc on display,was taking orders from mid queue before front of queue had been served,then when they did serve gave them the wrong items,you could see people were starting to get narked off,at this point I decided not to bother and left,looking at recent reviews I had a lucky escape.

This used to be a Shropshire favorite but, alas, due to a change in ownership it is now one to avoid. The Chips are greasy and wet. The server is full of 'charm' - "yes, sir", "the chips are just out of the fryer, sir"....but this is nonsense designed to make you think your going to get a nice portion of chips. They are very poor quality.

Our caravan is sited 4.5 miles away from March to November and it was our 'chippy of choice' for some years.. However this year we found that the ownership had changed and, despite an across the board price hike, the quality has in our opinion, fallen from delicious to inedible. Our first takeaway, purchased at the end of March. unpacked less than 10 minutes after it had been wrapped, was virtually cold.and the chips, golden brown outside, were partially raw inside. Our sons lukewarm Kebab meat appeared to have been in the warming tray for a VERY long time. Our second purchase two weeks ago WAS still hot when it was unpacked but many of the chips, were still raw in the middle and had black crispy outsides. Our fish was coated in golden brown batter,crisp on the outside but thick sticky and uncooked inside. The fish itself was only half cooked. There was that much oily grease that the whole meal went straight into the bin. Needless to say that we will not be using this takeaway ever again.

I have started visiting the Village Fish Bar on my way home from Shrewsbury after it was recommended to me by a friend. I used to enjoy the chips at the Route 49 in Craven Arms (also excellent) but Pontesbury is on my route after work and I have to say the quality and value are ten out of ten. Fish is cooked to order by the cheerful friendly staff and has always been pretty much perfect on my visits, batter not too thick and never soggy. You can get a "mini fish" chips and choice of curry sauce, peas or beans for £4 (March 2016) and it is ample for me, the chips are hot, fresh and crispy, everything tastes fabulous and you leave looking forward to what you are about to eat. I do have a fish and chip shop in my town, (not naming and shaming) that I never bother with because it cannot compete with the quality here so well done to Pontesbury Village Fish Bar. I believe they have won awards for their food which would not be surprising, the lovely staff being cheery adds to the experience.

Well worth a visit, good choice of food , haddock can be cooked without batter which I prefer, recently had a new manager/ owner good luck in your new venture wish you every success, much improved service and opening times.

Se llama aquí de camino a casa a minsterley y compré una bolsa grande de pescado y patatas fritas. Pescado era muy bonito pero patatas fritas eran yuk. (creo que eran de la noche anterior y eran más como scratchings). El personal era muy amable, pero una sonrisa no perjudique.

Freshly cooked haddock while you wait cannot be beaten! Lovely tasty chips too! Really generous portions, two of us shared a cone of chips with our two enormous sized haddock. A really tasty treat in Pontesbury!

Una pequeña tienda de pueblo que proporciona un excelente pescado y patatas fritas. Las amplias porciones que han sido preparados en colesterol gratis aceite , que le harán sentirse bien pero no se sacia rellenos o pesadas. Mejor pescado que hemos tenido en este viaje.
