Vietnamese Street Kitchen in Birmingham

Good food place, but food hygiene rating is 1...don't think I will go back again. During the lockdown, this was my favourite Vietnamese place in Birmingham, and they had a better good hygiene rating back then. I had the beef curry with egg fried rice and watermelon/lychee mocktail. The beef curry would probably be better with the jasmine rice as it is quite a wet dish. It overpowered the egg fried rice, so it was marked down. The mocktail is too sweet for me. I had to dilute it with some water. Overall good service, good food, but the low food hygiene rating really worries me

The food is delicious but arrived 45 minutes late

First time I came here and the first day I've tried Vietnamese food too. Absolutely lovely food. Very fresh tasting, lots of nice flavours too. Drinks were nice too and fair price for it all. Service was great, place was clean and decor was very cool too. Hope to come back and try some more soon and recommend this to others.

AVOID AT ALL COST if you value your health!! My daughter got food poisoned over the weekend and I’ve never seen anyone that ill!! After couple of days of heavy vomiting and diarrhoea we ended up at the doctors as it just did not stop!! Also SEVERAL girls who were with her at the meal got the same problem! They haven’t returned to school yet since the weekend as they’re that drained!!

It was great to find a nice restaurant like this open before 5 because we had to travel and getting sat at 4pm was fantastic! Convenient parking meant it was a 5 minutes walk from the carpark to the restaurant which was even better because we were starving. It was quite empty when we arrived and they sat us straight away. The atmosphere was so nice, but I've dropped a star because there was a heavy smell in the air that was reminiscent of incense. It might have been the candles burning on every table, but with zero airflow it was massively overpowering. BUT everywhere was so clean and tidy, the decor is wonderful, the toilets were clean and they had a disability toilet downstairs. The plates and chopsticks and little hand towels were so cute. I loved the effort they put into it all. The servers were attentive and so polite. Really high level of hospitality and they checked in on us throughout. Some of the best service I've had in a restaurant before. They cater to gluten free with their own gf menu, which was fantastic! There weren't a great deal to choose from but honestly I think the variety was still really good. I chose the spring rolls which were crunchy and hot, and the special pho which looked amazing when it came out. Unfortunately it was jam packed with coriander which was very over powering, but that's more a personal preference and it was really fresh and crunchy. It was also quite under seasoned. I had to add some salt to the broth to bring out the flavours. There were also a lot of small chicken bones in it. Small enough to swallow but it was still a little off putting. My partner had the slow cooked lemongrass beef that was slathered in ginger. Hes Filipino and even he said it blew his head off. But it was super tender and came with fresh and crunchy salad, so it wasn't a heavy dish. For the price I'd have expected it to be a little better in flavour and a greater portion size. Especially with the starter as 3 tiny spring rolls shouldn't cost £7.50 But it was still an exciting experience after a long and tiring day!

I was sat under the staircase in the Birmingham new street branch. Food was good, which is why I walked in. Not sure how it compares price wise to other Vietnamese food outlets. I had a hard time understanding the choice of decor (a larger than life size printout of an old broken door with some dirty Chinese signs to accompany) Polite service, although it took several attempts to get the waiters attention once I was ready to pay the bill and leave. They Didn't look too busy, but just wondering into space instead of attending to those present.

The place is great, sitting outside in a sunny day is really nice. The food is good, but not the best. Somethings I found a little unflavored and dishes took a long time to come! Like 40 minutes more or less, on a Saturday.

Beautiful decor, staff fast and attentive, food was incredible! Had the Homemade Curry 🌶️🌶️ with Lemongrass Chili Chicken & Jasmine Rice, slightly spicy, highly recommend!

I just visited Vietnam whilst I was still in the UK...❤️ Food, service and the atmosphere were just heavenly. I only wish I could've eaten more.

Absolutely top class! Really really enjoyed all of it. A very cool looking place and relaxed atmosphere. The freshness and quality of the food is impeccable, We opted for a few small plates to try whilst looking at the menu. The cocktails were brilliant and the non alcoholic drinks were so good, I would recommend the ice tea and fresh lemonade. The king prawn skewers and hot sweetie wings were my favourites along with the lemongrass big bowl. The children’s menu options are also spot on, I would only say the option of some of the adults bowls in a smaller size would be great as my child enjoyed mine. All the food looked a smelt amazing but the small plates are worth going back for alone. Thank you Tammy and Ruby for looking after me and my family! Service was wonderful.

Food was horrible. Old chicken wings with plenty hair on top . The portions sizes for chicken and king prawn really small. I order plin wings they come spicy.

Great food and great service from Nga and Ji Very tasty and delivered very quickly. Lovely experience all round.

The taste of noodle with soup was not good enough, sticky floor and the prices are bit high if compare with the taste. However, the service was quite good.

There is a waitress with a pony tail, so rude!!!!!!!!! Terrible experience!!!!!! She spilled the soup of Pho on my white pants when collecting the plates, but without any apologies, even didn’t give me any tissue even when I looked at her. She doesn't look at the guests when she talks, doesn’t deserve a 10% services fee at all!!! I don’t feel like this should happen in a good restaurant.

Waiters Nga and Pinky were very friendly and welcoming.It was only a short wait for the food and it was great. the pork and bun noodles were great and so were the spring rolls. Definitely return and recommend.

The food was not like the pictures, super small portions, misleading advertising... which could be ok if the food was actually tasty Watered down sriracha sauce (I mean who does that) Plastic plates for these prices, quite unreasonable Quite a waste of money Proper tourist trap

Went there today and we ordered the dumplings and bao buns. After a while (20min or more) we received our food. The dumplings were dry, hard and old. You also pay almost 8 pounds for one bao bun which is expensive. Very expensive! They told us that the menu (bao bun) is written and not (bao buns) so it should have been clear to us! We returned the food and walked out. The only positive is the location.

Extremely expensive, can get same food 3 min walk for 5 pound cheaper a meal! Ordered Bau Buns, can paid 8 pounds for just 1, I also got the king prawn dumpling also 8 pounds. I returned everything! I said how can you charge 8£ for 1 bun she said on the menu it says 'Bau Bun' and not 'Bau Bun's' I'm like your joking right. How misleading is that honestly. At least they accept a full refund. Won't be going again.

Food was nice had bottomless brunch

Had delicious pho tai as a late lunch. Sevice was quick and the staff were all attentive, polite and friendly. Had a nice chat with one waitress from Da Nang. You should come here for a quick healthy and tasty lunch, mid shopping trip. I'll be back when I'm next in Birmingham.

We really enjoyed our experience here as parents with a 9 month old. The staff are attentive, friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. The food was very nice, I would say that it’s the smallest bowl of pho (it’s not tiny but I think I’m used to bigger sizes) and the metal spoons are an odd pairing. The spring rolls were nice but too many layers of pastry means that it’s quite tough with little filling… but we did enjoy the food, I do think we had a better eating experience in the bull ring branch a year or so ago. I would return for lunch again, oh and also the iced Vietnamese coffee was SPOT ON.

Lovely setting - full of colour. Lots of seating on 2 levels. Food was nice and service was friendly and helpful.

A good choice if you are in the Bull Ring area of central Birmingham 🐂. It’s a flexible dining experience with all the courses arriving together and each person able to have a mix of small dishes or a starter and then a normal bigger main course. Our group all enjoyed our choices and the wait time was speedy which really pleased us.

Had a lovely time at VSK! Angelo’s service was pleasant and was happy to assist our requests. Had the crispy pork belly and jasmine rice which was flavourful! Will definitely be coming again!

Service: Really nice staff, pretty swift service. But despite going at a time when it wasn’t busy, we weren’t checked on during our meal or given more water without asking first. Food: Ordered calamari, hot wings and papaya salad. The salad has 3 chillis next to it on the menu and when I ordered it, i reiterated that I would enjoy it as spicy as it is described. When it came; it was the blandest it could have been. I appreciate that not everyone likes spicy food, but when it’s meant to be spicy, please let it be spicy because that’s how it’s wanted.

Nice setting, colourful and spacious- good attentive service. Was empty practically when visiting but it was a little late. Food was nice but crispy pork too tough. Value for food? Well, it's more expensive than PHO so no, too pricey but was the only thing on our way home that evening. They need to be more competitive and offer some deals imo.

I had chicken pho and IT WAS AMAZING. I thought abt ordering more food but the pho was too filling and its very good for the price. They give you alot which is pretty good. Also the staff and service were very nice. The atmosphere of this place was just so nice, its really aesthetic. One thing they didn't tell u abt is that they do charge some extra money for the service. However it's not alot. Overall this place is amazing I'd love to come again!!!

Authentic Vietnamese food which is really tasty, the spices were added to the right amount that it’s aromatic yet doesn’t take over the flavour completely. Staff was friendly and helpful, food was served quickly and each table has complementary prawn crackers. Would definitely recommend!

Nice foods , good price , beautiful places

The food is quite good, looks beautiful on presentation and is tasty. However the price is too much for what you're given. The staff are lovely and the restaurant is really pretty inside. Beware of the service charge, it's automatically added to your bill. With the high prices the bill becomes quite big, which makes the 10% service charge a sizable amount that you may not be willing to pay (you can ask to reduce it or take it off). Overall it's a decent restaurant with a range of dishes to suit every diet but one to come on occasion only.

I recently visited Vietnamese Street Kitchen and found the service to be okay. However, I ordered the pork bowl, and it was incredibly salty, which made it hard to enjoy. I appreciate the flavours, but I would recommend adjusting the seasoning. Hoping for a better experience next time!

Thanks to the store clerk for recommending me. The lemongrass beef curry is very delicious and the portion is sufficient. I will patronize it again.

Outstanding Cuisine and Service, Praha Customer Service Skills Were Outstanding

My Pho was ok, the broth was forgettable but the fake chicken was nice. Only 7 pieces though. And the fact they added a service charge without making it clear was annoying. I would suggest Cafe Soy in China Town instead.

The service was great, the waitress was very friendly and nice and the food was tasty! Even the kids menu was good (My child had the chicken wings and tried noodles with apple juice from the kids menu, which in my opinion was quite good) and you get free prawn crackers for your table at the start. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Also, I really liked their desserts and the layout of the whole restaurant.

We were served by Nga and Min, both were so lovely and attentive to us. The food was perfect as always, well flavoured and balanced, good portions, and cocktails were lovely. Would definitely come back!

Fast service, located right in the middle of the city centre. Felt very authentic. First time having Pho, and while it was tasty, I felt the food was a little bland - maybe my fault for not asking for the spiciest dish, but overall felt it was feeling that particular 'kick' that vietnamese food is known for. Still, had a great experience eating here.

So this review is tainted by going to another one of their branches where I had lovely smiling service and the food was good. BUT in this one, not so much. I think smiling is banded for the staff. Food took a while to arrive and was not as tasty as the other branch. And yes I did order similar things. Not the worst place to go to for food, but there's better in the area yet not this style.

Lovely food, and we were served fast! I got the roast pork big bowl and it was delicious with crisp outer parts and soft tender meat on the inside. The egg fried rice with it was amazing and all round it was great. A lot of the outside tables are a little wobbly so choose carefully! Staff were really friendly and great

Very tasty, atmospheric, and very attentive staff. I recommend trying the Bao buns, they just melt in your mouth. Fantastic Pho-Bo, it's really, really delicious. Fried "Vareniki") with duck is also on par. Highly recommend!

Service, pesentation, atmosphere, prices were all great but the food was slightly bland. Our waitress was very attentive and we were given prawn crackers to start so it was a nice atmosphere. The meal arrived and the presentation is very nice however flavours weren't very impressive. Firstly the mint was browning, and the cumbers didn't taste fresh apart from that the food was fine but lacked flavour, the 'not chicken' was just too bland and chewy. The summer rolls were nice and had a lovely sauce with them. Overall food was very average but we enjoyed the visit.

such an amazing allergy conscious restaurant. I’m coeliac and to be able to eat in AND order food online that is allergen free and not naff is a rarity. they always substitute something with a GF option without any fuss. It’s just so wholesome, thank you so much!! xxx

I would have given it a 5 star. However when I arrived with my group the waitress asked if I was vegetarian or vegan. I said vegetarian and was given a vegetarian menu. I ordered ‘not chicken wings, curry sauce and jasmine rice of the vegan & vegetarian menu. What I got was REAL CHICKEN not NOT Chicken. After eating 2 real chickens I began to question is this real chicken. It looks like real chicken ……….tastes like real chicken….,,,is it REAL chicken I asked the waitress eventually. It transpires it is she had made a mistake………..I actually can’t speak right now. 😞😞😞How can you make such a BIG mistake. 🧐She did however replace the REAL CHICKEN with the not real chicken. Obviously it went without saying my meal was for free. Would I come back here and trust they are not going to serve me REAL ANIMAL. Maybe but I would double check before eating which is why it only has 1 star for food 😞😞😞😞😞Feel sick now should have fasted instead 😂

This is an amazing place, the food the atmosphere and the price well worth a visit will go there again.

The food is good and rich in flavors. The service and the hygiene is really well taken care of however, the palace is a bit pricey.

This is one of the best pho I’ve ever tasted in my life and I’ve been to Vietnam too! Had a nice pleasure to eat a big warm of pho in a windy weather. Their egg fried rice is delicious and what makes it even more better it the service was amazing!! Feel so welcomed even though I went alone. Will go back here if I’m visiting Birmingham again :)

Two of us had food poisoning after eating their lemongrass beef curry with jasmine rice + spring rolls and two others didn't feel right having eaten other variations. They couldn't be bothered to reply for a whole week and then said it wasn't their food. I wouldn't recommend eating here as there is clearly something wrong with their food (or water?) which they aren't bothered about.

I am amazed by this restaurant. After having a traumatic experience with a different restaurant it was so refreshing coming to VSK. Right from the entrance the staff were very accommodating & helpful. The food tasted absolutely wonderful and I was very pleased with everything that I ordered. Just want to give a massive thank you to the chef & the staff that made this experience enjoyable: - Nga - Alan - Reza - Sen I would definitely be returning to this restaurant

Amazing cocktails and lovely friendly place. Enjoyed the food and would reccomend the dumplings. Will say that for the menu prices, I expected more (portions or ingredients). I got a substantial amount but it was mostly plain noodles. 2 meatballs and some pork. £18. For a street food place I would have expected lower prices.

I have been to VSK multiple times. I don’t know where to start. But this place is amazing. The atmosphere is very authentic and calming. The food is amazing, I can not recommend it enough. That’s why I keep coming back. The food looks and smells amazing. It is also very delicious. The portion sizes are worth it. The drinks are also really nice. If you want a chilled or fancy date. You can not go wrong. Whether you’re rushing to the train or the coach. It is also situated in an easily accessible area. The staff who work her are exceptional and incredibly patient. The customer service was amazing. Was given options with seating, friendly faces and smiles. Special mentions to: Sen Alan Reza Nga

Food was delicious, service was a bit slow (1.5 hour wait for food) and very loud in a small space. But would recommend for food alone.

Had an incredible meal with my family at Vietnamese Street Kitchen today. The food is always consistent and tastes very good. I must highlight the excellent service from Shanti, she was very attentive and the food the brought out in perfect timing. All done with a warm smile and great energy. Will definitely come back 🙌🏾

Shocking attitude from every staff member, food wrong and drinks left on the bar to go flat, rather than rectify putting a straw in to stir and then putting that in the soft drink glass is disgusting behaviour! Food bang average, check the cameras at 1pm stirring beer with a straw and using that in a wheat intolerant persons drink is unacceptable
