RuGa Bistro in Birmingham

My third experience of this lovely restaurant. The food is hot, tasty and plentiful. The service is quick and friendly. Our server was smiley and chatty. Excellent.

This was my first time at this restaurant. This is a gem in Birmingham. The customer service was good. The restaurant was nice. My food was delicious. I will return again. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Food for sharing, something we didn't realise, but equally delicious. I have been multiple times with friends and enjoyed every time.

One of my favourite restaurants, me and my mom love this place and have been going for years. I visited recently with my son and the staff were so lovely and helpful and even came over to talk to us once we finished our meal. Every time we order the food is 10/10, fresh, tasty and well presented. I will always visit and can’t recommend this place enough. Go and try it out the next time you visit the city centre.

I couldn't wait to post this review so I'm doing it as I eat🤣 i came by myself by the way - lovely staff and delicious food, they checked to make sure I was okay to eat certain foods, accommodating when i asked to remove vegetables from a meal and always smiling. The prices are also very affordable even though I ordered a million things 🤣 I feel like this place is a hidden gem😊💜 I definitely recommend. Andddd there is some much to choose from and the portions are massive! And the staff are so cute and kind they are like a mum who look after you 💜

Recently returned for dinner. Haven’t been back in a while and the service is still top notch. Friendly people and good food. Love seeing the new items on the menu. Will certainly come back to sample more! *** Very friendly service and food came out fast. It seems like the menu has been stripped back though, and there just weren’t as many options to choose from as before. Food tasted average for the price and when compared to the choices we now have in Brum. However, one massive big up to this restaurant is it’s dedicated vegetarian menu - it’s rare to see and very commendable.

Tasty food. Excellent menu, plenty of vegan options. The waitress when taking our order asked if we wanted vegan or vegetarian, so everything in the menu can made vegan! She was really kind and provided excellent service. The Wonton soup, mock fish and the sizzling tofu aubergine were delicious!! The portions were good. We also had the lemon iced tea HK style which was very refreshing on a hot day. The waitress also turned on the AC for us. The environment, the food and the service were amazing! I can’t recommend it enough, and will definitely be back soon.

What a delightful restaurant with lovely decor and calm ambience.Friendly,helpful welcoming staff. And the food wow ! ! ,beautifully prepared,quality ,tasty,fresh ingredients,my favourite dish is the Japanese tofu & seafood, sizzling dish which I've eaten on three separate visits (have dined here four times since end of January! ) Also the honey ,butter chicken wings . Plenty of choice for vegetarians ,vegans & meat eaters . Can't get enough of this delicious cuisine. On Monday (my most recent visit ) I had the crab & tofu ,which again was so enjoyable a taste sensation! . The house wine is also very good indeed .Keep up the hard work Ruga ! .I'm looking forward to trying your other very flavourful & interesting dishes I thoroughly recommend this great little restaurant people ! .

Amazing food with a big variety of vegan options. Everything was seasoned to perfection. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Large portions at a very reasonable price. Recommend 10000% 😊

Disappointing experience. The environment itself was alright, but the food did not match the price. At the top of that st the end we were imposed a fantom charge to pay.

A near empty Chinese restaurant on the Chinese New Year celebrations - it should have been a sign. One of the worst meals I've ever had, so I just can't understand the 4.5 star average review! Initial impressions were that it looks like a 1990s Ikea showroom, and while the service was really slow, we were hoping that 'all good things come to those who wait'. No! In short, we paid £40 for salty, dry, bland food; along with £20 for warm white wine.

Great little place- Fabulous food always, staff are wonderful. Extensive menu including separate good vegan & veggie options. Can't fault it.

Food service was really bad. We sat down and waited about 20 minutes to order, and we hadn’t even been asked to order drinks. Finally a lady came to take the order (she looked like the owner or person in charge) but she warned us that the food would take another 40 minutes to be served, which no one mentioned before. Some customers left as they had been waiting for longer than us. One of our plates was a dim sum platter, which we were told would arrive earlier, in 20 minutes, and it never arrived because a waiter made a mistake a gave to a table that arrived a lot later than us! They didn’t even look that busy, just very poorly organised! The food was okay, but not worth the wait. The owner apologised at the end when we were leaving, so I’m sorry to leave this review but it’s only fair. We paid £37 for two drinks and two mains.

I visited with 4 friends in search of a quiet dinner. The welcome was warm and service was friendly and efficient. We all ordered starters and mains which were hot and tasty. We all agreed that the food was amongst the best that we have eaten in many years of visiting this area of town. We will certainly make this restaurant our first port of call next time we are out together.

A stunning restaurant. I have been here a handful of times and the food, customer service and atmosphere has never failed to disappoint. The menu is nicely designed and not overwhelming. The food and drink selection is good and the presentation, taste and price are all perfection. I will be coming back for as long as they keep serving delicious food.

Absolutely terrible experience - made an order which was accepted by the restaurant at 3pm with delivery at 4pm. Was then told at 5.30pm the restaurant is actually shut (despite Google saying it was open and being on the phone to Deliveroo twice with a confirmed order email). Awful customer service and misinformation across the website and Deliveroo.

One of the best Chinese restaurant in town. Best dishes are salt and pepper squid chicken or tofu Egg fried rice is amazing Plum duck dish with rice Frog legs were so tasty Sesame chicken and salt and pepper chips are great too. Brilliant little spot with reasonable prices

Ruga Bistro is a hearty restaurant in the centre of Birmingham with a large variety of items to pick from their menu and friendly staff. The restaurant itself wasn't too full when we visited with a group of 8, and we found our food to be delivered in due time, bar for one of our friends' dishes that took 10 minutes longer than the first person's dish arriving.

Fantastic food and great service, though can be busy. Food is amazing. Really happy, will be back again and again

This is the best Chinese food I have had in Birmingham. Fantastic choice of dishes with delicious flavours and plenty of vegan options. Lovely decor and friendly service! Highly recommended 😋

The food was a bit bland, but it was alright as it was the closest place to where we were that had vegan food. My friends and I had a delightful time , the music was calming and the service was excellent.

The interior of the restaurant was so nice, the staff was so polite, the food was good and the environment was clean too. It was a good experience overall.

I have never been able to find General Tso's chicken in Birmingham. I came here because it was listed on their menu. Delicious food and lovely staff. Definitely one for a repeat visit.

One of our favourite restaurants in Birmingham. The food is just magic and the best Chinese food in town, and the staff are always friendly. No one can beat their salt and pepper dishes. The price is very reasonable and you get a lot of food for what you pay for. We come every time we want to eat out in town on weekends.

Fantastic chinese food during a quiet Sunday lunch period. The atmosphere was calm and service was attentive. Food was brought out as soon as it was ready (which was very quickly!) and was piping hot proving it was cooked fresh. Would highly recommend, especially if the nearby food court is too loud/busy for you!

Oh dear. Terrible experience. The food was truly awful. Seared eel was out of fridge and covered in some sort of brown sauce. The stir fry vegetables dish was covered in a brown sauce totally obliterating any flavour from the vegetables. The Singapore noodles were very oily. The hot and sour soup did not materialise. The waitress insisted that wonton soup had been ordered. The wontons were 'off'-tasted old and stale so we could not eat them. The pork belly dish had not been rendered so the huge fatty lumps made for unpalatable eating. This too was in a brown sauce. All dishes had problems

Was amazing, food was nice but could have minor improvements! But this was made up by the lovely server. Very good portion sizes and for a really cheap price! Would go here again!

We have arrived near to closing time but they were so friendly and they let us stay after closure. Service was amazing and the food was magnificent. Highly recommended.

Food was excellent, the best pork belly soup I have ever had by a wide margin, at an excellent price. Wonderful, charming atmosphere, and incredibly kind and friendly staff. Recommend highly for anyone who enjoys fantastic food and a beautiful place to eat it in!

Owners were rude and didn’t want to take our order. Other customers had walked in and received service when we had already waited for 15 minutes. In the end we still didn’t receive any service. Very disappointed. Would have given less then one star if I could.

Rude, slow and inefficient service. We were also charged for items we did not order and received mock chicken despite requesting for real chicken. Will not be visiting again!

Very bad experience. Me and my friends went to this restaurant in the new year eve. Their service was really bad. The order was taken after 20 minutes of our arrival, even though the restaurant was not at all crowded. We waited for about 45 minutes for the food to be served but even after that much time it was not served and no explanation was given. We felt so bad due to their behaviour and walked out from the restaurent. Our time was wasted and their service is trash.

I loved the service and the sweet lady Kerry I think her name was she was so helpful, first time dining here and she helped me with the vegan menu which I ordered spring rolls and mushroom noodles, I had a lemon ice tea and it was refreshing. Decor was pretty and again service was fantastic, portions were generous and would definitely come again Kerry was so kind and caring to me. Lovely little place thank you for the amazing food 😊

Really nice and enjoyable food.

Had a meal here recently with a work colleague. The food was delicious and the waitress took time to discuss various dishes with us. There is a good mixture of traditional Chinese dishes and traditional 'Western' Chinese dishes. Prices were fair and the service was friendly and efficient.

Very pleasant dining experience, relaxed atmosphere with warming decor. I have been to RuGa Bistro twice now and both times did not disappoint. My partner and I were served by the lovely Theresa, who was welcoming and friendly. Accommodated very well and loved the exceptional quality of the food, thank you we will be back.

Amazing home cooked food and great experience! When some things on the lunch set menu were unavailable, the waiter very kindly offered the egg fried rice we ordered for free to make up for it. Even if we had paid, it was £3 and very worth it! Portion sizes were generous, and the food was all very well cooked. Huge vegetarian menu, will definitely return with my vegetarian friends!

Delicious veggie food. Ordered off the 'obvious' and very glad we did. Didn't love the sub lift Muzak ('jazz' versions of the Beatles that were awful) ... Which grated on me more than my partner...

Place was dead which should have been a warning. Hot and sour soup was so gloopy it did not even fall off the spoon. They brought a replacement which tasted just beef stock. Main dish beef in black bean sauce had no flavour barely any sauce and the meat looked anaemic. One of the worst Chinese I have ever had

Very good! Wide vegan and vegetarian range and the food tastes immaculate! Great customer service and the feel of the restaurant was perfect!

Today I went there with my two children and we ordered 3 noodles soup and 1 beef balls in clay pot. The waitress took wrong order( I saw it clearly " fish balls" on the bill when I paid) we got fish balls instead of beef balls. The problem is that my older son is allergic to seafood and he got his lips swollen. Luckily his allergy isn't that severe but our dinner was ruined. The waitress only offered him a glass of tap water and that's it. It was our first time eating there, also will be our last time. Really disappointed.

By far the best hot n sour soup and ribs I have tasted in a long time. The lady was very nice with a lovely personality and really made for a relaxed meal. Thanks highly recommended.

We came at 9pm on a Thursday, Even though the kitchen was basically closing, the lady at the counter happily took our orders. I ordered egg fried rice with satay chicken skewers and beef in black bean sauce. This came to £22. The food was great. The skewers were an acquired taste. Very peanut buttery- I liked and disliked them at the same time. The sweet and sour chicken was the best ever in the whole of England.

Went here last Saturday, great food, great atmosphere, great value for what I paid etc. A couple of tables across, a woman with her family began trying to order things that weren't even on the menu like sweet and sour ribs....? The menu is great and has a wide variety of dishes (including vegetarian ones) so I don't really understand why she couldn't just pick something off the menu.. But overall, the experience was great! I'll definitely come again and I'll probably order the Cantonese style Kong cao pao chicken!!! (unlike some people, I like to order food that's actually on the menu... Ha ha ha. )

We came into this restaurant and the restaurant can’t cook what we ordered so we decided to leave politely but the waitress INSULTED us by saying we don’t deserve to go into their restaurant. RUDE and ill-mannered, will NEVER come to this restaurant ever again.

food was good, I asked for a two take way packs then released I was charge 30p each for a take way pack when I got the bill, was a little surprised.

I’ve been here 5 times now, the food is always amazing. Came with my friends, although their meat is not halal, my friend was pleased with vegetarian menu. Kelly was our host and she was extremely friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was very cute and calm. Highly recommend :)

Amazing vegetarian chinese food

Great for vegans - lots of mock meats, really tasty. Similar to Cafe Soya but premises are bigger and not as cold, portions a bit smaller though, but still very good.
