Viento De Levante in Chichester

Bit of bizarre experience. Attended at 8:30pm on holiday weekend to check if there was a table available. Female waitress asked if we booked and as we hadn't she stated they had no room and a full sitting was due despite the fact there was dozens of tables free. This was strange as they had entertainment and I couldn't believe 70 people were about to attend. We got a take away elsewhere and looked back later in to find none of the tables had been taken as the waitress had stated. It was abundantly clear she lied about the next 9pm sitting. She looked shocked when we popped our head in again as we all knew it was not true. It's their restaurant and up to them when to accept customers but I feel this was not a manager just a lazy waitress getting rid of customers so she can have an earlier home time. Next day we attended at midday and pretty empty and got a table and had lovely cocktails and food. Would highly recommend this restaurant (as long as you are not greeted by the lazy and inexperienced hostess who doesn't care about customers or if the owners make money) The following day we tried to get a delivery stated on website they provide but not only do they not deliver they turned down us collecting food as well. Great place and great food but if I was the owner I would be horrified a couple of staff turn down trade so easily.

The food was delicious , great choice and really tasty . Some of the best tapas I have had outside Spain . The staff were very friendly and so friendly . Definitely would go again .

It's the first time we've dined im Selsey. The plan was to eat at the "Viento del Vante" but it was closed, however we were assured the sister restaurant "Lal Bar" was serving the same menu and it would be just as good, it didn't let us down either. The staff were attentive, the food and wine were really good and, the atmosphere was fun and lively. I have to say there were four of us and we are all quite fussy and there was nothing we could complain about. Looking forward to going back in the Summer if not before!

We had a lunchtime take-away from Viento De Levante in Selsey, comprising a selection of their tapas dishes - it was all very good and tasty, with generous portions and nice sauces; we will definitely be back for more, before too long!

Our party was three in number and we ordered tapas to start followed by a main course . The tapas dishes were very tasty each having a very individual taste. The main courses were also excellent. If I had one criticism I had far too many potatoes and would have preferred a few veg or some salad but my grilled pork was delicious. I would happily return to this restaurant.

Had dinner outside (as is our preference), ordered 4 tapas followed by another 3 which was enough. Patatas bravas was a large portion, and the chicken meatballs were excellent. Unfortunately only here on holiday otherwise this would be a regular visit

Nice atmosphere , friendly, attentive staff. You can eat all fresco if the weather allows. The food we had was lovely,just like on the med. Recommend.

Lovely meal, which was early evening so probably unexpected but came in a timely manner. Reasonable cost but only 1 main course, 4 Tapas and a desert came to £50. Only disappointment was a 'hot' dish was quite up to the hot as described but that may be personal preference.

My husband and I had a lovely meal here last night The food was lovely and the staff and service was excellent We had a couple of tapas dishes to share, houmous and bread and fried aubergine and a bowl of olives I had butterflied chicken with salad and potatoes and my husband had pasta bologaise, all of which was delicious. The ambience was lovely , candles on the tables and Spanish music in the background You would almost think you were in Spain rather than Selsey !!

Had been here previously and the food / menu are still very good, and great value too. There's some seating outside too, handy for those warm evenings. 4 stars as the service wasn't great, perhaps they are being trained.

We visited without a reservation and were told the only table we could have was a table for 2 outside, for a family of 4. Wanting to feed the kids asap we decided to stay as we only had an hour before we had to leave anyway. Tables that she had said were all booked out, stayed free for the entire time we were there which was a shame to see. The food was very disappointing. We ordered a large selection of tapas and every single dish was so heavily salted that it wasn’t very enjoyable. The Spanish tortilla was far too salty we barely ate any of it. Calamari rings were so skinny that you ate more batter than squid! The cheesy garlic bread was overdone. Everything else was mediocre apart from the tzatziki which was tasty. Staff were pleasant but not particularly engaging apart from one lady who seemed quite friendly. Overall experience was very average and I would not recommend for someone looking for good, wholesome, fresh food.

We went here for an anniversary meal last night. The staff were really nice and we were well attended to. Their vegetarian menu options were plentiful and delicious, we had 8 tapas items between us and were really impressed with each and every one! Would definitely come back for another meal.

This was my first time here. The food and atmosphere are great. And very good prices. I would recommend booking as it gets busy. Especially in the evening. The aucoustics aren’t great but that. Could have been a one off. Take note that the say there tapas are slightly large and they are. The meals are large as well. Excellent value but go hungry as you will need room.

Really nice tapas, every dish cooked nicely. The Banquet option looked great value if you had a family of 4 or more adults (we didn't have this as one of our 4 was only young). Service good, nicely decorated setting. Overall a really enjoyable meal.

We enjoyed our meal and there was an interesting selection of dishes, including a very wide range of Tapas dishes. Rather expensive for what it is. Don't try the Turkish Rice Pudding unless you have had it before!

Looking for something a bit different than standard gastro pub fare & took a chance - very glad we did. Unlikely looking from the outside but we had a great food selection & perfect beer & wine to complement it. Service was prompt & friendly & a great atmosphere, even with Covid restrictions. We ate here a on a couple of occasions during our short stay in Selsey - it was a lucky find and we were even luckier to get tables as it is a popular place and tables are limited to keep safe distancing. There are tables outside as well as in but although we had a drink outside, it was too chilly to stay there to eat (September).The food was really good - some tapas regulars but also some new to us - it felt more authentic than some of the chain tapas restaurants. The decor inside gives a real Spanish feel to the place. We had several dishes on the two visits but of particular note were the swordfish, the vegetarian moussaka, the broad beans, the Turkish peppers and the Turkish rice pudding. Delicious. The wine choice was good too.Thanks to the Irish (I think) manager (Jessica, again I think) - she was really friendly and efficient and the place seemed work really well when she was there.

Booked a table over a week ago for our anniversary and arrived 10 minutes early to the owner greeting us rudely. We asked if we could sit inside with a firm NO I then asked to use the toilet while we waited for our table she rudely told my husband he was in the way as he waited inside and to go outside. We then waited 30 minutes to even see a menu and not offered to have a drink at all. We left and went somewhere else as you could clearly see they were under staffed to how many people they had booked in.

This place has a very large range of tapas, including a lot of vegetarian options. The service was quick and friendly and the food was good, with several original touches.

On Holiday for the first time in the area and called in for a drink on our first Evening. Jessica is an absolute Treasure. So helpful and chatty. We had Tapas there during the week. Wonderful and amazing value. We will hopefully visit again. Thank you ❤

We visited here on a busy Saturday evening. We order a dozen tapas dishes to share amongst the four of us. Everything was great, and the kids enjoyed eating some new dishes they hadn't tried before. We also enjoyed a nice bottle of red wine (the kids had juice).

We were visiting selsey for a short break and discovered this wonderful restaurant, the food was amazing staff were friendly and everything was lovely, we enjoyed a selection of Tapas and the children loved their lamb meatballs , I would highly recommend

My wife and I visited De Levante Monday evening.The decor was lovely and we expecting great things after reading the reviews.We ordered tapas and a bottle of wine.The potato bravas were poor due to strange tasting potatoes.The prawn dishes were disgusting, over cooked, prawns had no taste and the 2 sauces were quite simply vile!The pil pil was full of fresh lime so the dish was extremely bitter.They sent a second prawn dish which had cream and turmeric which had far to much turmeric in and again tasted awful.I dont really understand the sauce combinations going on here.Certainly not spanish and certainly no chef.Probably the worst meal i have ever had.No real apology and the owner seemed miffed.Still had to pay £61 for the meal!

tapas was disappointing, they seemed under seasoned, and the potato dishes were not pleasant, either old oil or poor potatoes.the staff, although very pleasant, seemed disorganised; we had to ask for some items several times.having said that, the swordfish meal was excellent.perhaps Monday lunchtime is not the best time to visit.

Tried delivery from here while on holiday, very good. Ordered on the phone, very friendly lady took the order. Delivery was very quick by a lovely lady. The food was hot and really tasty and really well presesnted in the takeaway boxes. Very good prices too.

food is ok , not as good as a year ago , but ok , just beware of the hidden 10 % service charge on your bill , because of this we have stopped using the restaurant now , i usually tip when the service is good , not by stealth

We chose the Viento De Levante for a very special occasion, a proposal of marriage to our daughter from her boyfriend who did the whole down on one knee thing in front of everyone, the food was very good and the service was attentive. But the whole evening has been marred by being charged for an ‘optional’ service charge of 10%, my husband asked the waitress what it meant on the payment machine because it was in a foreign language she said she didn’t know but clicked it anyway and we were hit £16.00 on top of a £160.00 bill. We have no problem with giving a tip for good service, which we did have, our problem is the deceptive way in which it was taken in light of my husband specifically asking what it was. So please be wary of the ‘optional’ service charge because it really isn’t and because we were all celebrating we didn’t think to check the receipt until we got back, so a lesson learned there as well!

Service great, food lots of and filling just need to up the quality, am sure customers will pay a bit more if this is implemented. Would go again as only a 10 minute cycle away.

Usually come here for my Birthday meal as I am local. I went with my hubby, my brother and two grown up children, and we had a fab New Years Eve in De Levante Selsey. The food is totally amazing, and the staff were all jolly and professional, even under immense pressure. (It was packed!) We enjoyed the night from start to finish, I tried the delicious prawns in a creamy turmeric sauce, and the stuffed red pepper with melted cheese, amongs many other dishes.They have a good choice of wines as well as traditional Sangria. My only criticism would be that my belly was so full I had to lie down when I got home!

I own a large events company. We were instructed to run a “Crime and Dine” ( see rightangle events)for 40 people. I have used hundreds of restaurants worldwide. The customer service and friendliness rates as one of the best I have experienced. From the Chef to all staff nothing was too much trouble and the food was something to die for; especially the chorizo! I hope we can work together again. In the meantime thanks for a first class experience.

Excellent food and generous too, for tapas - ordered too much really. Sangria was a nice accompaniment to a great meal with excellent, friendly service. Also it is vegetarian/vegan-friendly.

We ate at Viento de Levante on Sunday night. Had an absolutely lovely meal. Really good, authentic, Spanish tapas and a nice atmosphere. The waitress suggested a wine: a Rioja - one of the cheapest off the list and really very good. We shared a delightful Orio cheesecake pud and were all in for about 25 quid a head which was excellent value.

We took some friends to De Levante on a Friday evening in October, however there was 1 other couple when we arrived and a table for 3 arrived about 8.30pm.Having said that, we received good service and the tapas set menu was very good.Good local restaurant.

Lovely meal, great food. But the staff were absolute brilliant and made the evening that much more enjoyable, nothing to much to ask, and the lad serving us told us it was his first night! I couldn’t believe it as he looked like he’d been doing it for years! Good all round night, even if the service charge was a little bit on the lumpy side!

Popped in here quite late on a sunny Sunday lunchtime as I could not find their Chichester branch. One of two diners only at 2, but joined later by two more late comers. An amazing varied menu, great Spanish lager, friendly helpful service from Chelsea. Oliver a frequent user of both branches has given me instructions for how to find the slightly hidden Chichester branch. For tapas the portions are on the large size, but in fairness the menu is an excellent guide to ordering and what is in each dish. Almost as good as Madrid or Barcelona's best tapas bars. An unexpected find in an English seaside town.

We had our daughters 18 birthday lunch there it was fantastic mezzos and main meals. I am vegetarian and they met all my needs extremely well.

A pleasant enough, if unremarkable meal, marred by only two thing, one minor and one fairly major. I ordered the "Langostinos al pil pil" (not langoustines, but peeled prawns) which was pretty good, with a side-order of ciabatta bread (the "minor thing"), which had been overcharred, making the whole roll taste burned, in the same way that burning food in a saucepan can taint the whole dish. It wasn't very nice.

I simply adore the food at De Lavante. It's my favourite local tapas and I never leave there disappointed. Value for money with really decent priced meals, so much choice and amazing tasting food and the best service too. You've got to try this place!

Really enjoyed our tapas, sangria, cocktails and desert last Sunday evening. Service friendly and unrushed. Food tasty and hot so was freshly cooked. Our rice pudding was particularly delicious and the espresso martini was a lovely end to the meal. Atmosphere was friendly, no loud music, a very pleasant evening.

Our visit here, which included teenagers as well as a baby, was brilliant. Staff were friendly and helpful, making us welcome. We sat outside to enjoy the sun. There is a shaded area if you need cover. The food was absolutely top notch, every dish was delicious - a showcase for the passion the chef clearly has for cuisine. When back in the area we will definitely eat here again.

We have had lunch today and had a selection of tapas. All of them were excellent. The service was very good and we have booked a table for a repeat visit. The vegetarian menu is extensive and will suit our visitors when we return soon.

Just had my 1st meal here this year .I didn't think it could improve on last year but I was wrong it is even better.the atmosphere, ambience & food was even better than before. I would give them 6 stars if I could.

We had the tapas menu, all good, the young ladies serving were outstanding. We had the Gambas, King Prawns, the Albondigas (chicken balls), Pollo a la Crema (chicken in a mushroom sauce, Tortilla and Calamares (squid) very good bottle of Rosé wine! Good value too. We ate outside on a lovely evening. Could not fault a thing, we will be back, would highly recommend
