Lal - Cocktails & Pizzeria in Chichester

Nice courtyard with potential to be a great venue - but - we had to wave/call and ask for service each time we wanted to order/get a drink, were only told menu items were not available once we had placed the order (for both food and beverages), had an unenthusiastic waitress and who literally side wristed our bread basket at our table (the bread of which was rock hard) as she passed. We also had to ask for knives and forks once our food had arrived. No salt & pepper etc was on the table or offered. We were very disappointed with our experience.

Beautifully decorated inside and out, all the staff were lovely and attentive, looks small from the outside but was actually massive and the beer garden is lush, our waiter was really polite and made us feel very welcome, drinks were gorgeous with a wide selection of fruity cocktails, the food was the best part, being of Greek decent myself and also working as a chef myself the food was outstanding, the flavour contrast of the dishes was brilliant and you could tell a lot of effort had been put into the dishes, we will definitely be coming back and bringing our friends here, easily the best food in Selsey 😁

Nice restaurant and really nice staff. Food tasted good and the portion sizes were just right. We had the tapas. 3 should be enough per person. I would have given 5 if it were not for the issue with the wine. I asked for a bottle of the Provence Rose which was priced at £31.00. I was bought over a bottle of a Syrah Rose. The bottle was opened and it looked like an older bottle. I got the feeling that someone just filled up an old bottle with Rose. When I questioned why it wasn’t the Provence I was told that this is what their suppler send them now. I said that it wasn’t a Provence though. I asked how much they were going to charge me and they said the same as the Provence? I sent it back and asked for the £21.00 Pinot Rose instead which was very nice. I asked them to open it in front of me too. I get the feeling that there is some ‘Passing Off’ going on here. They don’t have the Provence but will happily change you the premium price. Went to Lal’s, which is one of our favourite Selsey restaurants by far. We both had the Chicken Shish kebab at £18.95 each. It was a bit disappointing to be honest. The chicken was lovely, but it just came with lots of leaves, marinated cabbage(?), grated carrot, a little rice and a wrap. It really could have done with a sauce of some kind, and the chicken pieces were too big to put in the wrap(not sure why it was there), and the leaves were just a bit plain. At £18.95, we think that’s a bit steep for what was actually on the plate. Nevertheless, we’ll be back to try other menu items, as we still love the restaurant, and we hope this is comes across as a constructive and honest review.

Went in for a drink with some friends on a Saturday afternoon and ended up staying. Ambience was lovely, staff very friendly and the overall service was good, drinks perfect. Some of our group had food, but I didnt eat so cant comment although it looked good. The whitebait had rave reviews at our table.

My son recommended that we came here as he had been several times in the past, and I can see why! Lovely spacious restaurant with great decor and a varied and interesting menu. We all went for the Tapas and were blown away by it. Too many to mention, and all were so good. We will be back. The staff were very efficient and friendly and took the time the talk to my young granddaughter, making her an honorary waitress for the meal. Thanks to everyone, an enjoyable evening.

What can I say, this is our favourite restaurant. I honestly can’t explain how good it is. The decor, the food, the service. We love it. Only small minus this time was drinks took quite a while to come, did our livers a favour really as if they had come quicker we would have wanted another bottle of wine. Our waitress was called Poppy, she was brilliant. Friendly and knowledgeable, just right. The owner came over at the end of our meal and offered us a free shot which is just such a lovely touch. Can’t wait to go again.

With the weather being so nice we decided to go to Lal for dinner in the garden. The food was lovely, the service was friendly, and it felt like we were on holiday. So pleased to have a restaurant like Lal in Selsey.

Such a beautiful place , me and my boyfriend came for our 3 year anniversary and it was amazing, the staff were very kind and helpful, thank you ! x ( boyfriend won’t stop saying it’s the best meal he’s ever had) ❤️

Food really, but unfortunately the service was appalling. Meal came out, but not at the same time. My wife ordered a cocktail for her first drink, which took 30 minutes. Asked for another beer, never came. Such a shame.

I had such a lovely time drinking cocktails. It's lovely to be so welcome, even though I'm the owner of La Banca down the road. Businesses do well together creating an evening High Street destination in Selsey.

Having met up with friends, I looked through the menu and was spoilt for choice, so many tasty things on the Tapas menu, we each chose 4 dishes and there wasn't a single complaint between us, the patats bravas were very popular, I'm already looking forward to coming back soon.

We stumbled across this restaurant yesterday. We have been coming to Selsey for over 30 years, and I can honestly say this is the best restaurant for food, service and ambience. It felt like we were abroad. The staff are attentive, friendly and accommodating. It was busy and we didn’t make a reservation but they made room for us. We sat in the back garden which is a beautiful little oasis full of charm, flowers and great seating! Mostly in the sun. The food was excellent! I’m always dubious of tapas food outside of Spain, but they absolutely nailed it! We had about 12 dishes, and each and everyone one was delicious. The wine menu didn’t disappoint and they also have a full cocktail menu. My husband was happy with his Mahou beer. The best part was the price. For 4 of us, with 12 dishes ( including mussels and fish) a bottle of Prosecco, 3 cocktails and 5 beers were £120 which was more than enough for 5 of us. The restaurant doesn’t add service charge either. So please do remember to tip. All the staff deserve it. Overall, this is my go to place now when I’m in Selsey.

Enjoyable meal, efficient service, human touch. Could not ask for more attention. All of us found dishes we would choose and all of us enjoyed what we chose. Can’t say fairer than that.

Found on the main street in Selsey, you will find this little gem. From the moment you step inside, you are welcomed by the warm, friendly atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They have a great menu with a full selection of tapas, cocktails, and moctails. The place is decorated so beautifully. I even have to take a picture of the hand wash station beside the bathrooms. A staff member told me they have a large outdoor seating area that will be open again closer to summer, and apparently its beautiful when it's open, I hope to get the opportunity to go back and sit outside with some more amazing food and cocktails. I would highly recommend it as it's so worth the visit.
