Came here for the big sports Day of the cricket World Cup and the Tennis Great atmosphere . Staff always on the ball Especially Dennis and Josh along with Devlin Will always serve you at the table if it’s not to busy which is a nice touch Laura keeps the bar running well and is always making sure the staff clear tables and keep the place clean which is always appreciated All in all a good place to meet and watch the sports with a snack

Most hotel bars/restaurants are soulless places. At least this one has an atmosphere and themes itself around sports and a USA style. On tap there are a couple of good ales and the menu is fine. Not the best ale, not the best food and definitely not the best prices (it's expensive for what you get), but overall a great place for those wishing to stay inside the hotel.

Great service throughout and very attentive. I had mussels to start and a burger. the mussels were nice and the source they came with was very nice, though physically they were very small and the dish came with a lot of empty shells which was disappointing.....though in terms of taste it was spot on. The burger was great and the sweet potato fries / coleslaw / burger sauce was spot on. had the mussels have been better it would have been anther 5* review, but considering how much I was looking forward to them, I was really disappointed and nearly gave 3* - though the service was really good

First impression was it looked clean, nice table, drinks order taken and carvery explained. The starters were very nice from the buffet. Drinks finally came as we finished our starters although the restaurant was virtually empty. Went up for the carvery main and when someone finally emerged from the back was served with the meat. The veg selection looked good but on closer inspection was ridiculously over cooked mush, the carrots fell apart, the sprout were absolute mush, what was left of the roasties were shrivelled, the stuffing was like rock and the gravy was almost empty. The staff were all young and spent a lot of time huddled talking and even poking the veg whilst chatting but not replenishing anything at all. I think some older more organised staff would be beneficial. The idea of seafood left open on a buffet table isn’t the best and my husband has spent the night ill after eating the mackerel and salmon. Very disappointed but could be so much better with some more experienced staff who might pay attention to the customers and food quality rather than chatting in corners and poking mindlessly at the food whilst doing so!

Chose to dine early after a tough day. I was shown to a table but a very competent young waiter who was pleasant and courteous. I was served with a drink upon being seated. I chose the sweet potato and chilli to start, and i must say it was one of the most tasty and quirky starters i have ever had. It really worked and was fantastic. I followed with a sirloin steak with rustic chips and peppercorn sauce. Again top notch, cooked medium to perfection. I would certainly recommend this restaurant, and will eat here again if in the area.

Well this hotel is always busy so thought it a safe bet when we had the chance of eating there with some discounted vouchers from "living social" We booked our table by phone at 08:30 on the morning of our visit at 8pm the same evening. On arrival we were told that they had no details of our booking (very poor) and that they were very busy, but managed to fit us in,in what could only be described as a less than satisfactory table. Anyway food and wine order were quickly taken and we waited and waited. After 20 mins I enquired about the wine and after a further 5 mins it was delivered. Very good but after a further 5 mins the waitresses came back to check on our food order as it had been lost. A further 10 mins past and then the restaurant manageress came over and after explaining our dissatisfaction decided to gift us the bottle of wine that we had ordered. Very good, it made some kind of compensation for our dissatisfaction and at almost an hour after our original order, the first course arrived quickly followed by the main course. The food was lovely, well presented and of a good standard although not very hot,but the damage had already been done and the evening lost. Would I risk eating there again? Possibly not. Shame really

On the basis that anyone can have an off day, I decided to give this place another go. Big mistake. Call me wacky, but I think bourbon ribs should taste of bourbon. The good folk at the Victory, however, think they should taste of ginger. If Michelin gave out awards for mediocrity, this place would merit 5 stars.

Went for the carvery last Sunday. Service is absolutely shocking! Staff spent most of the time huddled around the desk instead of attending to their guests. Plates were not cleared throughout our stay! Was very unpleasant sitting eating a course with previous plates in front of us. A couple next to us had to go to the desk and ask for them to clear as they were disgusted. On the other hand the food made up for lack of service even though the chef was leaning on the counter looking bored and uninterested in his job. Won't be recommending!

I visited here today having been here before some 6 months ago on many occasions and always thought it was good value for money.I came here today with a large party of around 20 people and the price was a bit higher prices with it being Mother's Day at approx £18 per adult and £8 per child. Which is fine if the food is good. The big problem was that it wasn't and along with the lack of professionalism from the restaurant manager and one of the carvery chefs, then this just made things worse. So, let's start with the food.StartersMushroom soup - tastelessNo white breadPrawn cocktail - ok but no tomato Main courseGammon - very chewy and not cooked correctly (Loads of people are complaining)Beef - poor quality and very chewy (Again loads of people complaining)Yorkshire pudding - you could have used as a frisbee they were that hard and stone coldPotatoes/veg - sprouts were like marbles, cauliflower needed sawing in half it was that hard, potatoes not cooked properly again, gravy lumpyDesert - little tubs of kids ice cream, waffles were ok but had to cook them yourself?? and in general pretty limited choice reallyIn general I have had better quality food in a 'Greasy spoon' cafe. The food was overcooked in general and lacked any real quality touch which I raised with the chef first and then the manager and I will list there responses.Chef - 'well no-one else has complained about the meat?'(unbelievable)Manager - 'I will replace the meat', then answer when same poor meat provided again and I raised same concerns 'Well that's the meat we are sent, so there is not a lot we can do about it'. I then replied by saying 'Well the meat was not cooked for long enough and too quickly along with the veg and anyone would know this is why it is not cooked properly'. (I then received the same answer. We were then all humbled all the table with a dessert gesture (I guess on the basis the manager knew the food was poor) with what looked like a 'urine sample pot' with one strawberry that had been sliced so thin I could see through it and some squirty cream, which to be fair I did eat.Paying the billI explained to the manager at the checkout that £80 was absolutely not a fair price to pay for the poor quality food we had received today and the answer was then even worse. The manager said 'Well we took on board your feedback about the veg, so myself and some staff members tasted it all in the back and it tasted ok'. The manager may aswell if said 'Your party of 20 are all liars and I don't believe or agree with you' and for me that was the ultimate insult. I was offered no reduction in the bill and was forced to pay the full amount 'Under protest'.I would appreciate some feedback from the general manager on the overall experience, as this was a very poor reflection ruin of the usually good service we received here in the past and along with the food there may be some customer service training needed with your restaurant manager. As it stands, I wouldn't return here again or recommend the Sunday carvery to any of my friends in the future.

My family and I visited for mothers day and was happy to pay the £18.00 price tag per head although there are cheaper options in the area.Unfortunately the food in my opinion was not up to a satisfactory standard. The beef was tough and fatty, the gammon was tough but turkey was ok.The cauliflower was hard, sprouts were hard and the roast potatoes were not tasty at all.On a positive the carrots were nice and the ice cream was ok.When feedback was given to the lady i believed to be the manager she was defensive and explained there had not been any other complaints? We had eaten here in the past and there was much more choice and no complaints. Sadly do not want to come back again after this experience.

The service was close to hilarious at times ..... what appeared to be the most junior server was pretty good. What appeared to be the senior host was 'entertaining'. From asking the same questions, to explaining that some of our party(staying at the hotel) would have to pay extra for dessert because they were on FFDP !? .... some offer that only included appetizer & entree, when in fact they were on DBB (Dinner, Bed, Breakfast) which covered all 3 courses. Then the same hostess tried to 'sell' the dessert options, resulting in her saying '.....the sticky toffee pudding was excellent, especially if you like sticky toffee, pudding & ice cream.....but you should get two spoons with the sundae otherwise you'll be sick !!' and she was being serious, not joking !She seemed very nervous in her contact with customers. The food itself, was a solid 6/7 out of 10. Nothing exceptional, but everything was satisfactory. On Friday's the bar area has 1 quid burgers until 7.30pm, which is excellent value.

The restaurant is well furnished you can sit outside and the food is presented well. You can start with a soup, get as many starters as you like and get as much food as you like from the carvery, followed by - you guessed it as much of the deserts as you like. For the price £14 not including drinks i thought it was ok, personally much of the food was not to my personal preference, but i may be being fussy. Everyone else seemed to like it, and the food certainly was not in an way bad it was just not fantastic. But for the price i suppose it was ok.There is nothing wrong with the service the waiters and waitresses are very attentive, the venue is very nice so for a sunday dinner i suppose it is fine.

I have eaten at this restaurant all week and one dish is better then the next. The starters tend to outshine the main course but if you have a sweet tooth you will be happy with the end of the night.Dishes are seasoned well and all garnished in their unique way so it combines taste and appearance. My all time favourite was the mushroom toast which does not sound like much however is very tasty. If you have an incredibly sweet tooth their sticky toffee pudding will be unforgettable. The service is friendly and if Will is your server it will be even more pleasant. Good value for money. I booked sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago for a family party of 33 people, which included several vegetarians and someone on a medically required fat free diet. The hotel was completely full, and the kitchen was also catering for a wedding reception. Despite the pressure on the staff, the meal was excellent and the staff and servers couldn't have been more accomodating. The tables were beautifully set and all dietary requirements were fully met. The eight children in the party had a table to themselves which they really enjoyed. The food was buffet style: an excellent array of starters, main course and desserts to cater to all tastes. Honestly, we were expecting something much less impressive. Everyone who came would gladly repeat the experience: thanks again to all, including Vicky!

Stumbled across this via a friends Twitter page.We live in Leeds but drove just over an hour to check out this amazing deal - book online first as there's only 3 sittings available.Welcomed by very well presented staff, seated by the window and served drinks immediately whilst the format of the restaurant was explained to us. Basically we were offered soup of the day (tomato & red pepper today) which came with 2 slices of chunky white bread & butter, then we went over and helped ourselves to the array of starters on the starter buffet table (salads, pates, olives, pickles, pies, meats, breads, oils, fish, cheeses, prawn cocktails), then we went over to the meat counter where we were offered any of the meats (honey glazed ham, roasted beef and roasted turkey) followed by venturing round to the veggies (cabbage, honey glazed carrots, brussel sprouts, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, mash potatoes, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets) and then round to the sauces and gravies; then we went over and helped ourselves to the gorgeous desserts on the dessert buffet table (waffles, lemon cheesecake, chocolate mousse, fruit salad, vanilla ice-cream, chocolate/sweets toppings, apple crumble with custard and sauces) but we were too full up for coffees.Food was outstanding, service was brilliant and the Manager (Karen) was so welcoming and friendly. Most certainly returning with friends and family next time.

I've eaten here many times over several years as I regularly stay at the adjacent hotel and sadly the food is generally poor. The restaurant is comfortable, the decor is ok, the service is fine but the food is generally poor and definitely overpriced. Tonight I had a steak which was a truly awful cut of meat and mostly it's the ingredients that I have found to be consistently poor, rather than the preparation or presentation which are ok.

We've eaten here quite a few times since it opened, more for the fact that it's close, but generally it's a pleasant place and the food has been tasty. As some other reviews have commented, it tends to be quite slow to get your food but as we're going out socially for a good chat over a meal we don't mind that. However, one major disappointment recently - they used to do amazing spare ribs in a bucket ( a nice bucket) and they were delicious - big meaty ones, cooked lovingly, probably the best I'd had. now they're just serving the cheap, skinny rack you get in supermarket packs. Restaurants should always be very careful before they mess with their signature dishes - you might save a few pennies but you'll lose business. On the up side service was bright and cheerfulso it was OK overall.

We'd booked a table for 4pm on Sunday 7 September 2014thinking we were booking in on the carvery but this has now stopped and you just choose from the a la carte or Sunday roast menu. We arrived at 4pm and were seated straight away as there were only another 3 or 4 tables so it was quiet. At 4.20pm I had to go looking for a member of staff to ask them to take our order. At 4.40pm our starter of garlic bread and cheese arrived. Our main course followed at 5pm. In total we were in the restaurant from 4pm until 6.20pm, shockingly bad service. The two female front of house staff were very embarrassed and apologetic and I'm not having a go at them as they were doing the best they could, but seriously 2 hours and 20 minutes for 2 children's meals and an adult's? When it did arrive, the food was fine and no complaints there but I won't be returning. I'm just grateful we had a very patient 7 year old with us. We were offered free desserts to compensate for the experience but this is of little consolation when we'd arrived hungry, ready to eat and had to wait a ridiculous length of time to eat our food. Such a shame as we have been here previously and enjoyed really good service and when the restaurant was much busier.

We went in on Sunday 20 July and we were looking forward to the beef chilli with sour cream and jacket spud,we waited a long time even though the place was almost empty. The meals arrived and did we did not see any chilIi took the plates to the bar and was told that the meals were correct, we usually see the chilli oozing out all over the place not this time. We found a table spoon of chile inside the spud -almost dried out!We complained to the waitress, we were told that new chefs were on and they had been told to cut back on portion size ! ! As previous chefs had been over generous!! No price reduction though. We were not happy and asked for the man in charge ( a team leader) we said that the instruction to the chefs meant that they had gone too far and felt sure if this continued without supervision ,then they would lose custom.he said that he would have a word with them. To be fair he offered a refund but we are not after freebies- just the tasty meal as it used to be.These new chefs should be supervised for a while! Will give it another go soon and hope it has improved.

We had been told that this restaurant was very good, as my wife is a member of the gym we decided to try it on her birthday .The staff were very helpful and attentive however they were let down by the quality of the food basically it was like a second rate Berni inn!!. I had the tempura prawns which tasted like they were cooked in an average chip shop batter, my burger was over cooked and tasteless. My wife had a steak which had a lot of gristle in it. The price of the drinks was way over the top £3.60 for a single Jack Daniels plus £1.20 for a "baby" coke and nearly £15.00 for a carafe (500cl) of very average wine .As I said the staff were very good but need better uniforms not T Shirts hanging over there trousers and wearing trainers! Dined at this restaurant as part on the dinner bed and breakfast deal that groupon had. Was really looking forward to it as we had stayed before but not dined. We arrived around 10 mins before our booking to be told to sit outside in seating area and they would call us. They did not do this so we rejoined the queue as others that arrived after us were being seated. We were shown to our table and asked for our drinks order and then someone took our food order no drinks arrived after 30mins so we asked again nothing 10 mins later we asked again and they was brought to us 40 min wait for a drink is shocking!!!!!!! We then asked about our starters as others who came in after us has finished theirs . They then arrived 5 mins later the food was lovely although was warm and not hot ! We paid for the steak & chips which was a £4 supplement. We was brought the 2 steaks but only 1 chips they said they would bring the second one out ! These only arrived after our meals had been eaten 15 mins later. One if the waitresses had knocked one if our drinks over and said that they would replace it which they did only to find they had charged us for the drink they knocked over. The service was absoloutly shocking! The waiting staff are mostly young and none of them seem to have a designated role so things get over looked very easily ! This happend at breakfast time we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee and they said they would bring it out 15 mins later still not arrived only to ask and be told yes I'm getting it in a minute.

I really do think they were clean enough to eat your dinner off with no plates. It was so dark in there it was a struggle to read the menu, I asked the water if he had any brighter bulbs, but alas no.The menu is a very varied and expensive I think, £23 for a 250g steak, £13 for fish and fingers. we ordered starters and main courses, it took ages for the food to arrive, the food was nice and tasty but I couldn't really tell what I was eating due to not having night vision glasses. On the whole it was over priced and took over 3 hours to get through a starter and main course for a table of 3.

We bought the Living Social Voucher for £56 for 4 people to dine to include 2 courses and a bottle of wine per couple. Several items on the menu incurred supplements including my prawn cocktail (really?!) - it was nice but should have really been included without the need for a supplement. Seemed a bit mean in all honesty. Two of us had steaks. They were nicely cooked but not seasoned. My friend commented that it was very moist and tender but he could just taste charcoal. I ordered the chicken, it tasted good but was served with only a baked potato. None of the 4 dishes were served with any garnish or vegetables, simply the meat and a potato or chips. Therefore the plates looked a little empty and uninspiring. It would have cost them much to give us some veg. The wine was ok and given we paid £56 and had two bottles of the stuff we cant complain too much. But really, had the food been outstanding the portions generous we would have definitely gone back as the restaurant itself is lovely. However it was only average so we probably won't bother unless there's another deal on.

Just had the worst pepperoni flat bread and children's frosted coated chicken meal ever! Who was it that thought that a 7 year old would eat a meal out of what i would call a dog bowl! I am absolutely sure that they can not have children of their own!. The food is not cheap and dose not give value for money. But the staff are trying to do their best

We've dined here a few times and the food and service has been excellent. The steak and oysters are fantastic (even if they NEVER have the advertised hobgoblin on draught..ale house...really?)However today we went for the sunday lunch which appeared to be a bargain at £12.95 for 5 courses. It was terrible, everything just tasted of salt, the meat was tough and overcooked, the cauliflower cheese just tasted of milk. There was not one nice part of the whole meal. The service was seriously poor compared to previous visits, loads of staff but no one even wanted to look at us when we went in to book, we ended up going to hotel reception (should have been a sign!) If you want sunday lunch go to the Hesketh, I'll try again for steak but the service needs to much better. I've based my ratings on the experience today.

A groupon menu for us, but cooked and presented beautifully with a smile. Pate to start, a superbly cooked steak for main and a yummy pudding. Ten out of ten!

Ate here the other day, a really bad experience. Waited 10 mins to receive a drinks menu then drinks did not arrive until AFTER we ate our starters and asking 3 times where they were to then getting barked at by the waitress that "you're drinks are coming! I'm not going to lie I forgot to put them on the till" then rushing off. Service was slow all night even though there was less than 5 tables in on a Thursday evening and 4 or 5 waiting staff, they clearly had no idea what they were doing. Lovely decor and food was ok. Would not return though was not made to feel welcome at all.

We went here after seeing it was highly rated in Cheadle's restaurants and as it was less than 10 mins walk from our house. It has always been seen as a fairly up market place and we were attracted to the 50% off food during January offer. However, we were disappointed. The menu was quite small, the house wine very average for £17.50 a bottle and the chips were thin and tasteless. The steak was quite good but I would never go back and pay full price for what we had

Visited this modern styled chop house on a fairly quiet wednesday night after seeing a 50% off advertisement throughout January. After quickly being seated and given our menus, we waited for 25 minutes without anyone coming over to take our drink orders. Bemused, I eventually went up to the till and asked the girl if she could come over and take our orders (by which time we'd chosen food as well). Our drinks finally arrived, 20 minutes later although the waiter only brought one wine glass for the table!Fortunately there was no confusion with the meals which were cooked to perfection. The sirloin was genuinely one of the nicest stakes I have ever had and burger looked amazing also. Desert was even better and then Chocolate monster was incredible. All in all, I'd have to say the wonderful food was let down by the young waiting staff who, although very pleasant, seemed a bit unorganised like they were working their first shift (I have a suspicion they may have been new - hence the 50% discount). Despite the negative I would go back, however I would be unhappy if the same service whilst paying full price.

This is the second night I've had dinner in the restaurant whilst staying in the hotel and I'll certainly be back for the third before I leave for home. The staff have been very friendly and professional, in particular to Kim who has been my waitress both nights so far and to Spence, the chef on the grill who just made the best steak I've ever had; a Black and Blue Rump, which I asked for blue. The meat was cooked to perfection. In fact, it would be hard to fault the food on either night and I'm sure tomorrow's meal will just be as good.

This is the second time we have visited here as it is a bit out of our way. We originally went as a couple and then with family. The food was excellent on both occasions and quite a lot for the two of us the first time. The second time we visited there didn't seem to be as big a portions but still plenty between 8 of us. The time in between courses was slow on our first visit but great on our second visit. I don't think they had been open long when we first visited!! The staff were very nice each time and I did feel quite sorry for them, as we were on the captains table for our family meal and its a nightmare for the staff to reach with food and drinks etc. Overall I would visit again but only bad comment is the toilets within the hotel itself, I found them to be a little dirty and offputting but restaurant was lovely!!

went last Saturday night for an early dinner with children and were the fisrt in at 6pm. We didn't receive any food until nearly 7pm....not great with kids. The open kitchen looks great...shame that 90% of the food is cooked behing closed doors in another kitchen! The ribs were meaty although seemed to lack flavour...maybe not marinated very long. The chips were over salted and pretty standard "french fries", the burger was minced way too fine....no texture at all, this wasn't a good thing. The best thing was the 40% early dining discount which just about made the experience decent value. Would I go back? Not in a hurry.

Well, what can I say? We had a fabulous evening at this restaurant. We visited on a Wednesday night and for mid-week it was busy but this did not effect our service. Our waitress, Tulin, was very friendly and went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect. Her knowledge of the food was very good and she was able to give us advice on the menu. The food was also very good! Two of us had steak, and although our dishes were confused, the problem was quickly rectified. The menu has a great variety of dishes for everyone and although the prices are a little more than we would normally pay, it was definitely worth it!Thank you to all the staff; kitchen, bar, and management for a great evening! We will be returning very soon!!

We were a party of four who dined midweek (Tues), our food was very impressive and truly tasty, the steaks were perfect and the lamb I ordered was superb. Dessets are to die for especially the black forest sundae, a very delightful alternative to the traditional cake style dessert. Our entire party were not disappointed and had a really enjoyable evening. The evening was more appreciated by the group as we had a voucher which offered a free bottle of wine per couple, this offer is on until the end of October I believe, The voucher for those interested is at present on display throughout the Village hotel lobby/reception. Please note the wine too was exceptional not the usual cheap house wine that some places serve for free deals, in fact our rose wine is listed on the menu as priced at £19.95. So all in all we were a very happy party who enjoyed an excellent evening at this fine restaurant - I hope this standard continues. All the party have rebooked to return with other friends for the following week.

Firstly I do not have shares in this restaurant BUT I CAN CONFIRM THIS IS A PLACE TO TAKE YOURSELF FOR A MEAL AND SERVICE TO REMEMBER.Once again three weeks running I have taken business colleagues to this restaurant and we have not been disappointed. I have been told by European colleagues "That English food is not much to write home about." The village restaurant has shown them they got it wrong. Also Kim and Carla and the assistant restaurant Manager showed them how you should look after your customers.Once again thank you for a great night out.restaurant

They have got just about everything right at the Victory Chop & Ale House. The quality of the food is spot on, they seem to use only the finest ingredients and it is prepared by experts who obviously take pride in their work.If you like, you can take a seat at long bar that surrounds the open kitchen and watch the chefs prepare your food. The chefs themselves are happy to answer any questions you may have about the items on the menu and they like to make sure that the dish you have is perfect for you.The serving staff are all really friendly, cheerful and efficient. They are attentive enough to make sure that everything is perfect but also allow you time to relax and enjoy your meal. I cannot fault the staff at all. They have also got the atmosphere and decor just right. The money spend on the re-furb has been wisely used and the lighting sets it off very nicely.I would not hesitate to recommend The Victory Chop & Ale House to anybody, and can't wait to go back myself.
