Great staff , made very welcome

Food overcooked and bland. The server didn't listen when taking order leaving us without items we were willing to pay extra for. Won't be coming again.

Came last minute with the wife as heard good things. Special festive menu on which was really nice and the staff were fantastic. The manager went out of her way to accommodate my wife's shellfish allergy and made time to go through the menu. Think she was called Charlie and the boy who served us was great too although I think new. Lovely pub and will be back.

Pointing Dog is a place I would highly recommend for anyone on any occasion, Ive came here with my family for casual dinners and special occasions and the food and atmosphere is always amazing. The staff are very kind and welcoming, the qulaity of the food is great and the overall vibe at night is very good. Excellent place overall.

My Son and I shared a trio of meats which was followed up with a plate each of red cabbage, swede and a separate roast potatoes along with a bowl of cauliflower cheese, stuffing and pigs in blankets came on the shared plate with an ample meat, estimate around 14oz each, Turkey, Gammon and beef, followed up with the small pudding and coffee, the only criticism is that the food could have been hotter, otherwise BLOOMIN LOVELY!

Fantastic service, Charlotte and Cole were always quick to help with anything I needed. We will be returning!

Yummy food, nice atmosphere and the service was great (both during booking/pre ordering and whilst on site). The guy serving us, Sam, was very attentive, polite and considerate! I would definitely recommend.

Excellent Festive Lunch just a shame not many people in. Singer on who we enjoyed and everything good quality. Excellent staff who were very attentive. Have also been many other times and never been disappointed.

A fantastic meal celebrating a family birthday. We were a large party of 10. All our food arrived together. I had the Roast Beef which was fabulous and between us I think we tried the majority of dishes off the Sunday Menu and they were all great. The service from Sam was exceptional and he made sure everything was perfect. I thoroughly recommend visiting. Thank you Sam and the rest of the staff.

Service was terrible. We were asked if we wanted sauces with our meals and said yes. We then had to ask 3 more times before it arrived and we had finished eating. We ordered puddings and waited around half an hour and had to ask again for them (cheese cake no cooking). To top it off we had to chase up our drinks order twice. We were seated between two very loud parties and couldn’t hear ourselves talk so asked to move which was sorted for us quickly. The only positive I can find really

The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance, making it a lovely spot to dine in Manchester. The food is flavorful and hearty, though on the pricier side. The service was quite slow, but Cole, our server, was attentive despite being a bit forgetful. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend the desserts, as they were disappointing – both the brownie and pudding missed the mark.

Lovely pub and lovely atmosphere came in for a lovely steak on Saturday and it was cooked to perfection, the team and the chefs are doing a great job!! 👍👍

Great place for a family meal. Good menus. On our visit... although greeted warmly subsequent service was poor, main course plates never cleared so we just skipped dessert and went to the bar for a drink. Witnessed family on next table leaving as no one came to them to offer drinks and take initial order. But I feel there were staffing issues on the day?? As otherwise I would still recommend this establishment as the food was really tasty and good sized pizzas 👍👍

I used to love this place, but then it was taken over by Lees in late 2023. The food and service aren't as good as they used to be. It feels as though they tried to make everything cheaper (on the production side) but they kept the prices high. It's a lovely venue but it's not good value for money.

We recently had our wedding reception at the Pointing Dog, and it was everything that we could have hoped for. Charlie, Ian and the team were brilliant, the food was delicious, the ambiance was great, and nothing was too much for the team. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in helping make our day so special x

Light lunch on Monday, very good food, excellent location , friendly and professional staff

Came here after a previous pub let us down with our booking and safe to say wow we do not regret coming here, Charlie was unbelievable, so welcoming through the door and made us feel so welcome, even tho we had overheard brief talk of the kitchen struggling, the food was still sublime and came out in acceptable timing. Thank you so much for the great afternoon can’t wait to come again

Went for lunch on Saturday for the first time at this venue. The pub itself is very attractive but the food was dreadful. We did wonder why there was hardly any diners at 14:00 on a weekend day. We ordered some starters to share, a platter with cheese and onion pie, pork pie, cheese, pate etc. some spring rolls etc it was low quality and generally not very nice. Wouldn’t recommend at all for dining

Cold food, poor quality. Don’t order the bread as it’s cheap rubbish sliced bread from the local corner shop , they really need to up their game. I watch other meals being sent back to the kitchen. No one came to ask how the meal was either . Will be a while before I return there again.

Food is always above average, but main points are service and atmosphere. Dog friendly in bar and huge beer garden

Worst roast dinner I’ve ever had, roast potatoes wasn’t cooked, turkey over cooked, Yorkshire puddings smothered in grease. Honestly had a better roast from Toby carvery and that’s saying something.

Possibly the best cheese pie I’ve ever had, and I’ve had many. Nice outdoor area and nice staff. Beer was good too.

Four of us went for lunch today and received excellent service from Tristram, good food and good value. Highly recommend.

Father day treat from my Children. This place is nice, clean and very welcoming. Staff are great, they take you to the table and give you plenty of time to chose your meals. Cole our server was terrific and was very helpful throughout our meal. 4 off us in our party all had Starters and a main. Food was fresh, tasty and plenty off it. I had the large fish and chips which was beautiful. Only complaint was they ran out off Manchester Pale Ale(beautiful golden ale) so had to drink there bitter, nice but not for my taste. Will defo call again.

Family Sunday lunch for 12, food good service very good, lovely atmosphere. I would go again.

Perhaps the worse child centric atmosphere in any pub I’ve ever been to. Took the pub one and half hours to clear the table during which the kids made some ‘potions’ from existing drinks and a tiny bit of salt and pepper. The landlady complained that they “needed to clean the glasses” (which they hadn’t cleaned in the first instance as they sat festering on the table) and they had “wasted salt a pepper”. Do me a favour!!! Avoid at all costs! And this review if from someone who frequented the pub prior to JW Lees takeover.

Good food and a great selection. All the staff we encountered were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back.

Mixed bag really, overpriced and extremely slow service when there was only 1 person at the bar, not like a real pub, more emphasis on eating over drinking.

Went recently and the management were so lovely! They helped accommodate for not only myself and my fella but my baby too! and sorted us through the menu! Recommend these entirely, especially Charlie; she was so fun and so helpful!

Great atmosphere, wonderful service

It’s a nice pub with great outside area. The only downside is the eye watering cost. £12 for JW Lees pint and a non-alcoholic Old Moat Cider. It’s the reason why we don’t come that often and just go into Bramhall.

i went here today for food and the food was beautiful brilliant quality and was very good with time. was my first time visiting today and i would definitely come again and recommend to others.

Turned up to eat at 19.52 & we were informed the kitchen had closed,despite food times being advertised clearly available up until 21.00hrs. Unacceptable.

Ate from the light lunch menu. I added extra chunky chips to the order. Lucky if we got 10 chips in a small tub they serve fries in and they charged £3.95 . Things have slipped somewhat

We had a brilliant meal here for my dad’s birthday. We sat outside first & had a drink, then moved inside for food. It has a lovely beer garden and food was great.

Ooh so disappointing since it has changed management. We used to frequently stop here for a light bite and this is the first time we have stopped off since it changed ownership. I ordered the Burrata, which clearly had never seen any basil in its life and they don’t understand what a “crostini” is. As for the “ salt and pepper squid with a chilli and coriander dipping sauce”, I can only assume they forget about the squid and left it in the fryer too long and had obviously run out of coriander... Likewise, they must have run out of garlic judging by the supposed “aioli”. The chips were okay (if not a little greasy but much better than the onion rings), hence the two stars and because they gave us a refund.

We just found this pub quite by accident. It was very nice with good service especially as it was an early lunch and not very busy. There was an offer on for steaks that day, the steaks were really good and I would recommend.

Went here for the first time on a Sunday. Really beautiful pub, service was great, especially as we were a large group. Most of the group ordered Sunday Roasts, which was positive all around. However, for improvement, it would be great if the allergen menu indicated that some items are cooked in fish oil. We had ordered the Hot Crispy Beef Noodle & Duck Spring Rolls only to find out these were cooked in fish oil. Thankfully, the waitress had informed us before the items were prepared & served to us. Perhaps separating cooking oils for each type of meat would be the better option. Other than that, we would come back, especially to sit in the garden during the summer months.

Food has been good on previous visits, but the last couple of times have been a bit disappointing. Burgers reminded me of the type you used to get in school dinners and the steak was below expectations.

I had Sunday lunch with family. I chose the vegan option but added Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese. The food was fabulous - well cooked vegetables, really good Yorkshires, and we didn't have to wait too long to be served.

Only had a coffee here but it was very nice, as were the staff. It does seem to close at different times of the day depending how busy it is.

Unfortunately the kitchen was having power issues the day we were there so no hot food. However, sandwiches were available and very nice. Staff were kind and helpful.

It's a nice place with good food, I worked here for 3 months and was bullied by the head chef, and called a misogynistic when I challenged her. I left for a much better place and was treated with respect

We visited for a Sunday lunch today and had a lovely experience! We had the Sunday roast sharer which was delicious and the kids both had the mini roast which was equally nice. The bottomless Yorkshire puddings are a bonus as well as free ice cream for the kids! Dan our waiter was really friendly and attentive and enhanced our experience even more. We will definitely be back soon!

Although the food here has always been good, recently the standard of food has risen to new heights . Huge portions, beautufully presented and skillfully served by a well trained young man named Cole who was polite and helpful.

Nice place. 1 lager, San Miguel, unless you like hydes which is awful, you need more lager on, carlsberg, bigger selection, more customers. Place was dead, on a Saturday afternoon

Empty. No atmosphere. Food OK, staff smiley. Lees beers are awful, so only 1 lager. San Miguel. Overpriced. Lower your ridiculous prices, get a better selection, maybe carlsberg etc. Get more customers. Simple. Oh, it doesn't know what it wants to be, place has no identity. Find your place in the market. Pub, restaurant, both, posh, not posh,....... Very flat.

Friendly Public House with a good selection of ales and wines. Staff always have a smile on their faces even when i tell my stupid dad jokes.

We’ve been going to the Pointing Dog since it first opened and it’s had its ups and downs over the years. Since the take over of JW Lees and the refurb it is definitely on the up and we think the food has improved even within the time that JWL has had it, not sure if it’s a new chef. We really feel that the management team actually care about the place now and there has been more continuity with the staff than previously. We are very happy with our local again now, it has such a cosy feel. One thing though, please get the outdoor furniture replaced for the summer! The benches have been there for years and are really grotty now and not nice to sit at and we do love our sunny days sat out there.

The kitchen is closed at 8:45pm on a Saturday night. it’s very disappointing when established places choose to close whenever they feel like it when customers have driven to eat there. Next time, we just won’t come.

We were passing through and visited this restaurant for lunch. Both the food and service was excellent. I wish we lived closer as we’d definitely be regulars.

We are a family of 16 and had booked in Sunday lunch for a get together. We could not have asked for more. The service was excellent, particularly from our waitress Charlie who was superb. We all commented that it was one of the best Sunday roasts we'd had, all in a warm, cosy welcoming environment. Would definitely recommend and will visit again. Thank you to Charlie and all the team for looking after us so well.

When to the Pointing Dog as it was my family friendly hen do, my friends hired the space at the back of the pub and it was absolutely brilliant. The room was perfect and the staff are brilliant, nothing was too much trouble for them. The Manager on site was very nice and again super helpful. The pub itself is very kid friendly and the food was delicious and good portions. Will definitely be returning.

Took my friend to celebrate her Birthday, but was a bit worried as my previous visit was a complete disaster. We had been told of a new owner and chef. We were very pleasantly surprised, as the staff food and ambience couldn't have been better. Lovely occasion.
