I visited with my wife and daughter for our evening meal. There was a new menu being launched so we thought we’d give it a try. We were very happy that we did as the food was really very good, well presented and well served. The new menu is extensive and gives a good choice of classic pub food and some wider choices. We had starters and mains with a couple of pints each and the bill for three of us was less than £50, excellent value. Really nice staff too so we’ll definitely return.

Whilst staying in Newton le Willows we have had Sunday lunch at the Victoria for the last two weeks. We have had the beef, gammon and pork - all of which have been very tasty. This is accompanied by roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower cheese and gravy - all for £7.95 - great value for money. The vegetables are cooked well and nicely presented. The serving staff are only young but very polite and efficient. We will be returning to sample other dishes from the main menu.

Volveremos pronto

Decided to try the Victoria for dinner on a Friday night (7.30pm) but were very shocked to be told that the chef had went home and they were not serving food. This seemed absolutely ridiculous on a Friday evening, especially when the place actively advertises the food offerings outside. There were menus out on the tables listing the Friday special! We went to the High Street where we managed to get a really nice meal. The Victoria needs to get its act together. If you are happy just being a local watering hole, then don't advertise yourself as anything else.

I visited last week for the first time as a central place to meet a friend coming up from Cheshire. We sat out in the lovely garden to start with and then went inside to eat. We were made very welcome as was my dog. The food was inexpensive reasonable pub grub, but it was the welcome and helpful young woman behind the bar who made our visit great.

Went in that Victoria 2nd Jan (Friday) for a meal, only a handful of people in and nobody eating ,(not surprising from our experience) we asked for a menu and bought a drink. When we went to the bar to order the one and only barmaid had " gone for a fag". Waited until she had finished her "fag" and ordered our meal, she told us that there was no Lasagne/chicken/steak pie, which severely limited our choice of a not very extensive menu. Ordered gammon (very small piece of gammon, but not too badly cooked) egg ( could have played tennis with it) peas( well they were green round pellets that tasted of absolutely nothing) and a mountain of underdone frozen chips (Tesco value I think). Went to order a cup of tea, guess what? No barmaid again! So we didn't bother with that, finished our meal and went to the toilet before heading home, only 1 toilet with paper in it and no soap to wash your hands with in either the ladies or gents, and this in a place where you eat, surely this is against every hygiene regulation! Needless to say, we won't be going back

Credit where credit is emphatically due! We popped in for breakfast the other morning, only to be met by what can only be described as a phalanx of the friendliest staff you could ever wish to encounter. And, my word, what a breakfast it was! A truly resplendent English spread, in a pub that exuded charm and individuality. None of this soulless, microwave 'ping' malarkey you get with the dreary chain establishments. No, no, this was the real McCoy—proper British hospitality, by Jove! An absolute triumph and a welcome respite from the mundane. Bravo!

What a fabulous meal we enjoyed last evening. Food, drinks, service, music were all first class. We were amazed that they could serve approx 200 people with hot food. Fast service at the bar too, with plenty of friendly bar staff. And we had a lovely 'full english' breakfast in the morning.
