The Ship Inn in St. Helens

Absolutely devastated to be writing this but it was the way the situation was handled for me which has left me never to be returning again. Me and my mum visit the ship now and again. This time I had received an undercooked chicken breast which was luke warm. It was a scouse lady who was in charge yesterday so I took my plate of food to her and showed her the raw chicken and advised it was cold to touch. She then proceeded to go and tell the cefs. When she come out of the kitchen I was in disbelief that she was telling me that the chicken wasn't raw and that the chefs had probed the chicken and it was 75 degrees. I had to correct her and tell her the food shouldn't be leaving the kitchen until it is 85 degrees or over. I work with food everyday in my pretty demanding job which I didn't want to be sick for. NO APOLOGY. I asked for a refund but got advised that I wouldn't receive the full lot as it was part of the daytime menu. I should have received a full refund on everything and maybe offered a free drink but nothing. I come home and made myself sick as I ate the chicken and really can't afford to be off work

Attended the Ship Inn for Mothers Day celebrations, the food was lovely especially the roast dinners and the service was excellent will definitely be back soon ❤️

We are here a lot and always see Vicky, sweetest lady, super chatty and smiley. We always have a lovely chat with her. She makes the experience even better being there. We have come here for many years and even had a meal here after our wedding in Covid. Food is always lovely and caters to me veggie/vegan brother and also my fussy husband.

I ordered a buffet for after a funeral. I can't fault the attention and service from staff. We were greeted and teas and coffees were served immediately. The buffet was brought out as requested and the food was beautiful. Fresh sandwiches, salad and some hot items. All nicely presented. Well done Ship Inn for good service and good food. They even offered boxes if we wanted to take anything away.

Went to the Ship Inn about 2 weeks ago with a family of 12 to 14 people. We've been a few times to meet for family meals. This time I got charged 2 prices for the same drink and by the same server each time I went to the bar for a drink. One was around £3 and the second time I was charged around £5 then when ask for some sour cream to cool my curry order I was charged for a small serving of it when all the other times I've been ive never been charged to cool it to my liking. I'm a korma person so tikka is slight too hot for me and in the past it's been no problem at all to add some sour cream to cool it. I emailed them 2 weeks ago on their website, it said they'd be back in touch within a couple of days but obviously couldn't be bothered. My family have just invited me out again but I've asked them to change the venue.

Met up tonight with family, lovely warm welcome from the team on arrival. The food was absolutely delicious, Teresa looked after us, and was so attentive throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble for her. Would definitely recommend The Ship and their friendly team.

I come in to the Ship most nights for a drink but on Friday night I had a Schnizel and it was fantastic. The services was boss to definitely recommend.

I ordered my steak medium rare, but I don't think it was cooked enough (see picture). I now have a terrible case of the runs and am running worryingly low on toilet paper. While I can't say for sure whether the steak and my current tummy troubles are related, in my opinion it's a worrying coincidence. 1 like = 1 prayer 🙏🏻

This is Clive, The best time of his week is when he comes to the ship inn, he loves all of the staff and has a very good night when he is here. Staff are so accommodating of his social anxiety

Lovely looking pub and very friendly staff but sadly let down by the food, I had the mixed grill the chicken was seriously over cooked to the point I couldn't cut parts of it with a steak knife it was that tough and the mushroom was just a black blob on the side of the plate a very disappointing meal

Called in for a meal about 16:30 and we were greeted by one of the friendliest landlady's I have come across. Nothing seemed to be much trouble for her. The beer I wanted had just gone off pump, so she poured me some samples of the other bitters, to see which I preferred. After takeing our seats the landlady came over and informed us that if we were cold there was a lovely log fire in the adjacent room, which we took advantage of. Decided on the chicken tikka masala, which came with rice and two small nan breads and was delicious. Would certainly recommend.

Unfortunately left feeling frustrated having to justify what I could and could not order from here. Wanted to order an under 6 meal for my 7 year old and was asked his age and that I could not order due to him being older that the age requirement, I explained that the meal he wants was not on the older menu and I knew this meal would be smaller as it’s stated for a lower age. She reluctantly allowed me to order then was told I was not allowed to order and extra child’s pudding as I only had 1 child with me, and a child pudding can only be ordered for a child. Have to say other than that the service and food where fine but will not return for the simply fact there is so much restrictions on the what I could and could not order and pay for. Was here on a family meal with the rest of the party all ordering adult meals and drinks it wasn’t like I was after cheap bargain we all paid full menu price, but failing to understand having to justify what I am wanting to order and pay for.

Came in for a few drinks. Greeted by Megan so friendly and singing away to herself. Brightened up our day

Had a beautiful night tonight celebrating my mams birthday. From start to finish we were so well looked after, table set lovely, waiting on staff couldn't do enough. Tracy and her team have got it right. Thanks a million.

We had a lovely lunch at the Ship Inn. We were a party of four. The service was excellent and we were made to feel as though we were the only diners there. The food was also excellent and hot when it arrived. Nothing was too much trouble.

We've booked a table for the Valentines a month ago at the bar via the bar attendant expecting to have a lovely Valentines dinner. Turned up today, Valentines Day, justb to find out thst the bar attendant had messed up our booking and booked us an hour later and tried to blame us, there was no apologies but very nonchalant attitude. We were given a table, by pointing from the bar where to go. Ordered the food, sirloin steak - the food was cold and most of the meat was fat. Most expensive chewing gum of my life! Needless to say that we're not going there again. Should have gone to KFC.

Fantastic place, staff are great, nothings too much trouble. Food and assorted beers served by the lovely Vicky and Teresa.

Amazing yet again!! Came in with my family on sunday and ordered the beef dinners some of the best dinners around the meat just falls off the bone and the service was great as usual nothing is ever too much for the staff my little girl was getting a bit rowdy when were waiting for our meals and the woman serving noticed and brought over some colouring pages for her she was soon happy, thank you for a great sunday cant wait to come back!

Used this place a few times as i work in the area and its on my way home. Called for steak and chips as had received e mail giving me half price on main meals that week. Food was good but have received notification of an £85 fine which as i was in a company vehicle has already been paid by company. Didnt see any signs or notices of charges but of coarse wasnt looking for them.Have produced evidence but as theyve already got their grubby paws on the money parking company wont even respond to me. What a great scam! 100 quid for steak and chips and a drink. Have spoken to Watchdog who are currently making a programme about this.

Visited as stayed at the accommodation next door and found it very accommodating. We went in twice on the 15th January. The only disappointment is the after care service We signed up to the app for a discount on offer that week .This was not deducted and when questioned we were to get a refund after 7 days . This did not happen ,so yesterday my husband left a telephone message, and has had no response. Disappointing as wanted to come back as I originally came from Rainhill .

Pop in here at least once a month, the manager is lovely as are the rest of the staff, they have a dog area too for our furry friends. Food is good and priced well.

We were a party of 12 celebrating a birthday, we were mainly looked after by Teresa whose service was excellent. All of our different choices of meals were served together, so that was a bonus,thank you kitchen staff. We were made to feel welcome and we all had a lovely time and would recommend this lovely little pub, we will certainly be back again. 😀

Called in after work for some food and drinks. I had sausage n mash and other half had ultimate burger. Both foods were great and tasty. Service was great and to top it off they had an offer on. Levi n Laurel were great. Definitely be back soon 😂

Would give it 0 stars if I could. Came here last week and ordered the evening special, asked for the dessert to be told it hadn't been put through as a special, fair enough so I left it at that. Went again tonight for a special celebration, ordered drinks, had to repeats the bar staff (same one) said she hadn't been listening, Ordered two meals, extra eggs, asked how the 2 steaks wanted cooking, bar staff ( same one) asked which meal the eggs were to be with, brought two lots of cutlery, then only brought one meal, then said we only ordered one meal. A celebration completely ruined, as one person ate, wouldn't go again as the service is appalling

Had a meal with 23 people on 13th Jan 25. The service was excellent. The food was great. Everybody in the group commented how nice it was. Thankyou to the staff who couldn't be more helpful.

Just started to experience this pub recently under Ember Inns. The staff are very friendly and all round great value for money. Food and drinks really good. Highly recommend. The deals for 2 x course or 3 x course are really good. Nice glass of wine with a steak and good atmosphere. What more is there to say. Well done 👏

Meet and greet was very friendly. Bar staff very slow and served regular customers for drinks before anyone else who was waiting at the bar..The table that we was sat on was reserved for other diners for 6.30pm.The board that was put on out table with with this information on was put on our table at 4.30pm.From 4.45pm one of the waitresses came to us numerous times telling us that "we hadn't got much longer" and even asking are we ready for going.This was at 5.15pm.We hadn't even ordered our desserts!!! .Felt very rushed which spoiled,what would have been, a lovely afternoon.

My friend and I had booked Christmas lunch . We've both had concerns and anxieties lately and the lunch was a chat time . I forgot a deposit....the people we chatted with at the bar,were so lovely and even put a cracker each on our table. Understanding why we weren't very sociable and not judging

Took our grandson out for lunch..not been here for a few years so we thought we would give it try..NEVER AGAIN.we waited 45 minutes for the food,when it arrived you could see it had been sitting around.the littles ones tomato pasta was congealed and luke warm,my chips were hot but my steak sandwhich was cold,and my wife's food was just warm.it was disgusting..imo,i would not recommend eating here..when we asked why it had been so long,we were told they were busy by the waitress they were busy doing Christmas dinners but ours was obviously cooked and left sitting around to go cold..it only got the 1 * because a zero option wasn't there.. 29/11/24..

Food was phenomenal, the best food I've ever had!! The selection of beers, sprits and wines were great, they even have my favourite gin which i cant find in any other pub. Megan and Teresa were really helpful, polite and an absolute pleasure to speak to. We will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu. Can't wait to come back.

Really poor........not coming back

Came in for a drink this evening, was welcomed in out of the cold. Staff as always very welcoming, Levi and Treasa's treated us with opening arms and accommodating, such a pleasure to end our week on such a pleasant evening with laughter and smiles from the staff. A wonderful time in the Ship. We were staying at the Premier Inn next door. We had an evening meal with family and friends. Very nice. Teresa and Levi were really helpful and professional, nothing too much trouble. Next morning we had booked for breakfast and again everything perfect 👌 , great service and food. Really friendly. Dog friendly. Lovely food. Good parking. It would have been 5*,unfortunately ,everyone that had peas left them ,as they were crinkled and dry. Looks like they had been left under the pass for too long . But overall a lovely experience, we will be going back

We went to the Ship Inn today, and the service from Megan was brilliant. The restaurant is also dog friendly.The food was excellent, as it always is. The Black Sheep ale was also good. I do have a gripe though. I was emailed a 25% off voucher for mains as I am a regular customer. For my wife I ordered 3 courses off the set menu which should have been £11.99. However I lost out by £5.28 as I was charged £17.27 ( £19.27 as the 3 courses were charged separately less 25% discount on my wife's £7.99 main). I did get a correct 25% discount of £2 on my £7.99 main. So my tip to you is too save money by paying for the set menu dishes separately from the rest of the order. Oh, and don't forget to enter your car registration at the bar to get free parking.

It's a great pub, good food, decent beer and the staff are always friendly and welcoming...and the coal fires are awesome in the cold weather 🔥 You really can't go wrong!
