Viceroy Restaurant in East Hertfordshire

Pre ordered a delivery at 3.30pm for 6pm. Now 6.45pm and no sign of any food. £5 delivery charge applied. Finally got through to the restaurant after phone continually engaged to be told it was out for delivery. Told if hadn’t arrived in 10 mins to call them back and that if I ever ordered again on line that they would make sure my order would get preferential treatment. What a bunch of wasters. Don’t bother with these cowboys cos they sure ain’t Indians!

The best Indian food I have found since moving south from Staffordshire 11 years ago. Absolutely wonderful food with fantastic friendly service. Thank you we will definitely be back.

Decided on a last-minute family Indian meal and popped out to the Viceroy . Brilliant staff managed to squeeze us in on a very busy Saturday night. Food was great and service was excellent.

I really think that some of the other negative reviews are off the mark. Ive always found the meal and service both excellent. It is also good value for money in comparison with most restaurants. I think it is under new management and I must say the food is now fantastic and very tasty. Plus good portion sizes and very good quality. The service is friendly and the overall experience really good. I have been to this restaurant several times and I would definitely recommend it.

the restaurant was well maintained and and the staff very friendly and offered good service all evening. The menu is extensive and prices very reasonable. The food was served piping hot and the best of ingredients used.

Going in,the door is sticky...greasy hands maybee or wet paint? when you are in the seating is so crushed you cant breath. trying to squeeze more people in i guess lighting is so bad you cant see even the menu let alone the scribbled unreadable extortionate bill. A handful of frozen veg and a potato with cold rice in a sauce would cost you 75p you cant imagine what they are charging..trying to increase the profit i guess. constantly asked to the point of very annoying ..if everything is ok and do we need any more drinks..which are not cheap.. i used to love this place, its gone down hill fast

Went here the evening of 22nd April. Despite making an on line reservation and being ion tune we had a short wait for a table. Saturday seemed particularly busy with take aways too. We had two curry dishes and sag allo ….. a bottle of water and red wine. Came to £68 plus service. Was expensive for what it was

Fabulous service and food, never had bad meal. Food speaks for itself but it’s the friendly staff that make it an enjoyable experience

The plates were lovely and hot. Food was served as soon as cooked, hot and very tasty. We loved it all. The only downside was the service was extremely slow, very hard to get a drink. I think they need more staff. Service charge was added to the bill even though invoice said not included but as the food was so nice we ignored this. Overall, very good and would go again. Staff friendly but more needed.

Visited last night with my family . My daughter wanted to try something new and having spoken to the guys there they were very helpful and happy to put a dish together for her . Excellent meal and customer experience.

Amazing food with attentive and friendly staff. Made our evening! We ordered a variety of starters and mains and everything was super tasty. Their chutneys were delicious and the team did everything they could to make sure we enjoyed our meals.

Under new, very friendly & accommodating management, I can finally enjoy a proper curry at the Viceroy again. Will definitely be returning!

Good service,nothing too much trouble. Generous portions,nicely presented.washed down with an ice Cold Cobra or two. Suggest change background music, it didnt add to the restaurant atmosphere. Staff listened to our requests & views, they happily adjusted dishes to our tastes. We will visit again.

Had an amazing takeaway. Its normally very busy on Friday, Saturday but well worth the wait! Large Order, all the currys lovely and warm. Been going here along time and it is always superb, never had anything wrong. Restaurant was busy and my food was ready quickly and still delicious. Had 2 takeaways on week days, different food every time and still not great and up to our usual standard of other places, won’t bother again which is unfortunate and quite expensive

This restaurant has terrible service, a perfect example we had to wait for 1 hour and 30 minutes until our meal was available, and its not as if we ordered anything out of the ordinary for an Indian restaurant.

Food has always been consistent. In general the food is and tasty but the menu hasn’t changed much for years. Also as this is the only Indian in Buntingford it has a trapped market and prices are a little on the higher side.

My friend is a gluten intolerant vegan. Usually quite an awkward combination, but the waiter was very knowledgable and was able to recommend him something both tasty and filling. I was less impressed with my sizzling chicken dish - just a bit bland, but the Bombay potatoes were lovely!

I had a nan last night and it was very good , one of the best about defined recommend you come and give the restraint a try !

Have been trying to find a good Indian restaurant since our favourite shut and tried quite a few in Ware and Hertford. We happened to try this one for a take away a couple of months ago and have been back a few times for take always. We went to eat in for the first time for my husband's birthday with our family and we're not disappointed! All the food was excellent and the service was quick and attentive. Then at the end of the meal they surprised us with a lovely birthday cake with candles and happy birthday music and also complimentary drinks! A really lovely evening, would recommend and will definitely go back! Glad we have found our new favourite curry house!

Staying at a pub near Buntingford on a Monday night which had limited variety on menu, so decided to head into town to see what was on offer. Walking down the high street, saw the Viceroy and decided to give it a go. Popadoms were fine although we have had better accompanying chutneys. However, the two main curry dishes we ordered were fantastic. The Chicken Tikka Celone and the Special Garlic Chilli Chicken were fantastic.

Decided on a takeaway from here tonight, but yet again a negative experience (2nd time it’s happened)

Being local I am aware that there have been some recent changes and poor reviews but, speak as you find... I have had many meals here and takeaways.. as I say there have been some staff changes over the last year or so but I very rarely feel let down here.. last week I went there with some friends.. it was a quiet Thursday night.. The owner/ manager greeted us and took our orders.. we were waited on by two younger waiters.. The food was timely and tasty.. we all commented on how good it was and the service was extremely friendly and efficient.. we felt welcomed and ate well.. the bill was not exorbitant and surroundings. Lean and tidy.. we left a tip and received complimentary good night drinks.. without doubt we will return!

Visited on a very busy Saturday evening for what turned out to be a great evening. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the service good. Always a very good sign to see support from the locals and well deserved. The food was so delicious with good quality ingredients used so well worth paying a little more.

The viceroy is our local indian and we rarely have a below par meal. The wait time can be a while when both eating in a getting a takeaway but its not the end of the world when the food is as good as it is.

A really good range of curries which are tasty and reasonably priced, but the service was rather slow and haphazard and odd things happened with no explanation, e.g. our waiter taking away the pickle tray he'd just bought (as it happened he was just doing so to bring us a larger one, but he could at least have explained that). Also, they offered to hang our coats but didn't retrieve them at the end, so we had to. Restaurant gets very busy on Saturdays so booking needed. A little cramped and hard to move around, so not ideal for people with mobility issues.

Having just moved into the area and having been told what a great restaurant this was, pricey but superb, I was soon wondering what all the fuss was about. Waiting 15 minutes to be served even a drink, it soon got worse, from the weak runny dips with no mango in the mango chutney or lime pickle at all (curry sauce was what took its place) I didn't rate the raita and there was no coriander in the onion chutney, just chopped onion! My King Prawn madras arrived with very little sauce and the prawns were clearly over cooked and chewy. When we asked for some water (three times!) none arrived at all. The garlic tomato Bhaji had no discernible garlic in it and was tepid, awful! Finally no waiter came to the table to give us a bill so we went to the front desk to pay. When I told the manager what poor service and meal quality we had he started laughing and clearly thought I was joking, there was no offer of a discount, only that he'd look after us if we came in again ( like he'd remember) - I was very disappointed, I'm willing to give it another try as this may have been a one off but it was not the experience I'd set my stomach on that evening. Not recommended at all, it's just that this is the only Indian in the village and they obviously have the monopoly on it.

stopped in for first time and ordered a takeaway for mother day. mint sauce was light green water. CTM had hardly any flavour to it. the biryani was nice as were the naans but it was just not great at all

Thought I would give this place another go after a year and see if it had improved. Sadly not. It was expensive for a takeaway for one. The chicken dish I had was ok but had 4 tiny cubes of chicken in it. £9.95? Really? The Bombay potatoes were mush and just not tasty. Very disappointing and I definitely won’t be giving it a third try.

We called in on the off chance to see if we could get a table as we were driving home to Norfolk on a busy Saturday evening. very busy with people in and out of restaurant with take awa orders a number of tables were already used and we spoke to manager who asked if we had booked, when I said no he said to just hold on whilst he checked to see if he could accommodate. We were asked to wait 10 mins and then were seated. We mentioned we were in a hurry and we're ready to order, they took the order and the food arrived promptly. My wife and I ordered 2 x chicken chat pure and for mains had chicken thanks tikka byriani and I asked if they could do Chicken Sag which we could not see on the menu, but the cooked for me and all food was great. Really impressed with Naz and his team and happily recommennd to others, give it a try if you live nearby.

When we arrived, there were no tables free and had to stand in the doorway, they sat us down at 9.45 but no apology offered. Having ordered our food, nothing had arrived by 10:30, again no apology offered or complimentary drinks.

I was extremely upset with the service me and my friend had at this restaurant last night. I have a dairy intolerance and my friend is vegan. On the website it says the restaurant is vegan friendly. The first waiter couldnt tell us which dishes were suitable and said he would get another waiter but no one came!!!! We waited 20 minutes I felt uncomfortable unwelcome and a problem. Another waiter came and asked if we were being served, I said no. He decided to take our order.... I asked which dishes were suitable he was not forthcoming and made me feel unwelcome and a problem. This was meant to be a special night, being a single mum I dont get out much and I had saved up to take my friend out to say thankyou for some work he had done for me. The side dishes were very disappointing. I seriously would not recommend this restaurant, food atmosphere was terrible the restaurant is in serious need of an update to todays food trends!!!!!

Firstly the food is excellent........ HOWEVER there is a long wait for food .. we waited over an hour for our starter and joked with the waiter about the wait . He seemed unconcerned and it certainly seemed the norm rather than a one -off event . They seem to prioritise take away customers with upwards of a dozen people hanging around the restaurant tables which definitely detracts form any atmosphere. They even had to move take away customers off of our table that been reserved !

I’ve heard that they lost their original chef. Both takeaway and in-house dining used to be great, but now every curry looks like it comes from one pot !

The viceroy buntingford has been my local Indian takeaway for over ten years, and have had many a fantastic meal there.

We have visited many times before over the years and the staff are plentiful and friendly as always. The food also very good other than their poppadoms which we concluded they must be using a new supplier. However, the wait for food this time was much too long because they were serving their takeaway customers before their restaurant customers rather than take orders in turn and for this reason I would be very reluctant to visit again because it did spoil the evening somewhat.

Just had one of the nicest takeaway meals I’ve had in years. I’ve dined in and had take out from the Viceroy for 30 years or so and the cheffing is better now than ever.

Wedding Anniversary yesterday so thought we'd dine in the Viceroy. So pleased we did, the food was fabulous, the service (with a smile) from the moment we walked in to the moment we left was exemplary, great atmosphere and all this dealt in a timely manner.

Had an absolutely wonderful experience with this restaurant. Food was great as well as the service. Was seated quickly served in a timely manner. Would recommend their butter chicken and lamb curry which was seasoned to perfection. Delicious! Would come again in the near future for sure!

We have had two takeaways from the Viceroy. The food is good, with lots of choice. The food is prepared quickly and the staff are very welcoming. It is good value too!!

We decided to revisit this restaurant again, after years of loving the ambiance food & service, the last 2 years or so it has deteriorated in every department, however we tried it again. We asked for papadoms they arrived and were totally inedible, limp and with a strange smell. We call the waiter who took them away and returned quickly with more which were only marginally better, we could only eat some of them so returned them again. No apology no refund just shrugs of shoulders as though we were ultra complaining customers.

We enjoyed our meal at the Viceroy.

This restaurant provided an excellent service and the food was a joy. I would particularly recommend the Tandoori Chicken which is one of a kind here. They provide great value for money and a vibrant ambience inside. Staff are very polite. Would highly recommend to visit and try it yourself

Menu had all the typical indian restaurant food expected. I tried the tandoori prawns and biranyi and a balti dish, all were very tasty. Service was fast, friendly and the menu was good value.

After googleing the restaurant this website - Kukd.com came up so presumed they did not have an official website so ordered everything from there very easily and payed.

The Viceroy had gone downhill quite a bit in the last two years, not sure what happened but it is now getting near its old standard again. the specials in the top right hand corner of the menu are certainly worth a try.

We enjoy a curry at our local; The Viceroy. Consistently good food and always efficient service. The takeaway service is also good. Delivery would be an appreciated addition to their service.
