Always loved this place. Been coming here for over 30 years.

Amazing!! Great food with lots of variety, nice busy atmosphere, staff were great. Nice selection of drinks. My children had a great time and the staff were pleasant to them too. And a good Irish coffee to finish. Highly recommend, we will be back soon.

I ordered the chicken biryani and it was pretty damn sexy

What can I say.. friendly ..very good food and wasn't disappointed.. I came here a lot and it's consistent the lamb madras was the best I've ever had. you pay for what you get will be coming back.. I ordered the wrong food and there was no problem replacing it on a delivery once ..they can't do enough for you

First time here for a while. The food and service is very good. The staff are very helpful if you are not sure what to order. We were there early 1830hrs did not have to wait, but would recommend that you book, as it is a well liked Indian.

Good food, lovely place. Extensive menu but oddly coloured so I found it tricky to read.

The waiter was friendly enough but the owner/manager was a very grumpy individual who looked like a smile would crack his face. The food took ages to come and seemed to take second place to takeaway orders. It was just ok and not very hot like it had been sitting for a while. Grumpy man came over and just whipped away the table cloth before we had finished our drinks without saying a word! Will not be returning.

The staff were very welcoming and food to good quality. Went on Saturday night 7pm which become very busy and noisy. Good value, maybe visit again during the week when might be a bit quieter.

Very noisy and cramped although they were understanding when our guests were delayed. Very little vegetarian options and when the youngest member of our party asked for a dish she is used to they weren't taking her seriously and told her a dish would be mild , mum said no spice and it wascroo spicy. When ordering dessert they assumed she was only one having one, we had to call them back.

Every dish we ordered was really nice, only waited for what we thought was a standard time & the waiters were attentive when required. We would recommend this establishment to all wanting a good "Ruby Murray". It wasn't too overpriced considering all the cost increases across the board. I will be coming here again a week later with a large group of about 30!! Can't wait!!👳🏾‍♀️🧕😄

Absolutely excellent food with the most awful service! Had to chase the menu, chase the drinks, chase second drinks, they forgot the rice for one of the dishes (only realised after as we had rice with 2 other people), and chased the coffee! Loverly people that seem to have completely forgotten the basics of working in a restaurant!! Will go again because of the food but couldn’t put up with the service for a second time.

3 of our drinks were flat and had to be replaced Tonic water was served in a beer pint glass !! the replaced ones were still almost flat. Tandoori mixed grill was awful hardly and meat at all not worth £14.95. The chicken in the Korma and Biriany was very dry and hard. 4 of us on a table and every thin was crammed in they need to have bigger tables. service OK

We visited to eat at the restaurant . Smiling and welcoming staff. The man at the downstairs reception was full of smiles and was pleased to see us . The man who took our order was lovely and showed a passion for the food helping us to choose . The staff were very attentive . Very clean and showed a pride in what they were doing . The food was excellent and as as a couple who have eaten at many restaurants , I would put this at the top for choice , quality and value for money . A lovely experience all round

First time here. Seating area upstairs 6 people nice large table. Arrived early so not too busy latter restaurant full. Drinks order taken quickly followed by food order. Popadoms with dips for starter were nice and light and crispy with tasty dips. All six different main these powered plentiful very tasty with a vegetarian option could not really fault any of them. Service very good very attentive. Well worth a visit.

Terrible service been there before new year's eve had to wait inside for 3 hours for meal takeaway and once got home they got the order wrong and tried again today and checked outside they got order wrong again I asked for a vegetable curry main and the gave us a side dish and we had to pay a extra £3.50 the total was over £40 already not coming here again avoid

I placed my order at 6.45 and was given a delivery time of 8pm. We were quite pleased with this as we knew it was New Years eve and so going to be incredibly busy. At 8.10 we called to find out what was happening to be told it was on it's way and would be 10minutes. 20 minutes later still no food so we called again. We were told that they were having issues in the kitchen but that it would be another 15 minutes. Roll on to 9.10pm when we call back AGAIN only to he told that it hasn't even left the kitchen yet. I completely understand that new years eve is an incredibly busy time of the year, but I cant abide being lied to which is what they did not once, not twice but three times. They were rude on the phone and we would never go there again.

I have been to this fine establishment only once in my long life, and being of an Indian background, I can quite confidently say that the food here was absolutely one of the finest crown jewels in existence. The food here reminded me so much of the food back home in Gujarat. Absolutely outstanding service and I cannot wait to bring over my family from Gujarat to try some of Britains finest Indian cuisine.

I went to the star with a couple of mates with quite low expectations, although locally the Star was highly rated, the one and only time I previously had takeaway I was underwhelmed.... Well my last visit has changed my opinion so much so that I’m looking forward to see if the experience is maintained to takeaway (during lockdown 2.0) Yes, the restaurant decor is a little tired and it’s far too bright...But it has a retro feel/charm. The service was attentive & staff welcoming. The main attraction for me was the food...good quality, fresh and varied (e.g NOT just chicken tikka in a different sauce).. Tender lamb and chicken, flavourful sauces and Tandoor cooked Chilli Naan... Keep it up..you may well have convert!

I only really have good things to say about this restaurant, Food was incredible, the chicken tikka was possibly the most tender chicken i've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. My son, who is an extraordinarily picky eater also enjoyed the food. I've never seen him so calm. The Naan was his favourite, mine too - You could tell it was made fresh. I woke up the next day with only one thought on my mind, Naan. Sometimes, if i close my eyes and think really hard i can still taste it. The staff were also very kind and very helpful. One of the waiters especially so, Kamrul - I believe his name was. He truly went above and beyond for me and my family. Truly the golden standard for all waiting staff that young man is. Kind, Efficient and great with kids! I plan on visiting this restaurant again soon. Often, infact. I may even order a batch of Naan bread to take home.

Visited in December with a large group of mates on a night out. All food was oerdered and delivered without fuss and with great efficiency. Food tasted great and we all enjoyed it very much.

Exactly what it says on the tin. The food isn't Haute Cuisine, but it doesn't pretend to be, nor does it need to be. There are no "fusion experiments", just the dishes you expect. The staff are friendly and very accommodating.

We tried a takeaway from this place after being loyal to another local who have gone downhill. I have to say although it was a nice change to try a different indian menu the food was ok but not great. We really need a good curry house so will give another try maybe will order something different this time.

The food was delicious. A good choice of dishes, and not just teh usual menu.Chef was willing to amend one dish to enable this to be chosen, which is a good sign for any restaurant.Staff were very friendly.The decor is modern and fresh.Soda water and lime is quite expensive - relatively! Good wine menu, for an Indian.

Last visited 3 years ago and was disappointed. This time food a little better but restaurant very tired DIY décor! Curtain poles sticking out of walls with blue curtains hanging from them screwed to shelving brackets in an attempt to make dining booths but the result is a very cramped area to eat. You have to move the table to get into your seat and again if you want to pop to the loo. You need to get out sideways being careful not to catch your butt and draw the curtain back between tables. Staff great, very friendly. Starters better than mains but salad with tikka a bit yellow. Mains look big but heavily bulked out with onion and chicken not so much. Rice and nans good.All in all just average but very dated and not the most pleasant place to dine. Just too cramped,

After walking for three hours along the river, a very friendly local recommended the Star of India to us. We discovered a gem! Food was excellent and the staff were friendly and very polite. We will be coming back ...soon!

I must admit I wasn't expecting much but the meal I had tonight at the Star of India was terrific. It was wonderfully spiced, the rice was excellent and the naan bread was one of the best I've ever tasted. The service was friendly and attentive without being OTT. Highly recommended.

Lovely night at this very nice restaurant. Exactly what you would expect of a good Indian restaurant with attentive staff, good quality food from a very varied menu and reasonably priced. Our only complaint would be that the desserts are obviously made well in advance and stored in a freezer although this did provide excellent comedy relief at the end of the meal as I watched my wife attempt to extricate the sorbet from the "Orange Surprise" before being defeated! Will definitely be going back next time we are in town.

Always so welcoming. Staff are so helpful and a pleasure to see. The food is lovely and their speciality meals that my husband tends to always try have never failed to have him saying "im going to have that again." Dined at The Star of India after a very busy week-end. I haven't been for some time, but the staff as efficient, polite and welcoming as ever. Having read in the press that many Indian restaurants are now offering dishes from their own region, we asked if they do this, and chose to try these. My king prawn dish was delicious, my friend's lamb curry was highly rated, and the mushroom rice was very tasty. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable time. We could not eat all our mains and they were very happy to pack them up as a take-away for us.

Really nice food and lovely food only lose a star for slightly tatty interior. However best takeaway in sorbo by a mile. Recommend strongly.

It was a meal for my 87 year old mum who in the last year has taken to chicken Tikka Masala. We had been here several years ago and as it was near her we would give it a try. I was impressed with the service and food and my mum even got here left overs in a doggy bag which impressed her. I also found the prices very reasonable for that area and had paid about £3 more for Tandoori mixed grill at other places. The starters were also a good portion. My only moan and it is tiny was I felt that my dishes could of done with a bit more salt. However it’s easy to add some if needed than reduce it. Of course more healthier so its not that bad a criticism and the right way. All in all an enjoyable experience.
