Vesuvio in Bournemouth

We had a family celebration there. The food was really good. Good service and overall very very good 😊

Somewhat outdated inventory, but currently an original Italian chef with fantastic Italian food. Lasagna was sensational. The staff was very very nice. The owner could invest more in the atmosphere. The atmosphere is a bit loveless. Great location.

Great place right on seafront so wonderful views. Easy parking too. Food and service both excellent. Decor a bit dated but otherwise a super venue and we’ll be back.

I booked a table at Vesuvio via email for the August Bank Holiday 2024. I was surprised how quickly Vesuvio responded and how accommodating they were for our party of 4 adults, 2 children, and 1 baby in a stroller. Vesuvio had no problem providing 2 high chairs, and also gave the children paper and coloured pencils to keep them occupied. They also have (clean!) baby changing facilities in their disabled toilet (which does not require a radar key). Service and food were excellent. I especially liked the self serve water, ice, and lemon from the bar in glasses or jugs (I hate when you have to ask for water for the table in restaurants!). The restaurant is clean and classy. The terrace is a nice option for alfresco food and drinks with a view of the beach. Food and drink is reasonably priced. We spent roughly £130 on lunch for 4 adults and 1 child meal. Location is brilliant at Alum Chine. Easy parking in the Alum Chine car park, children's playground right outside, and the beach (of course) for a lovely walk along the prom after. 100% recommend.

Cooked breakfast today without toast or hash browns due to diet, eggs included but charged £1.50 to have them scrambled as a local, Vesuvio, along with other beach side restaurants don't have to try too hard because of large numbers of non-returning tourists who patronise it. But Vesuvio reliably serve good quality mass produced food at a reasonable price.

We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we ordered some food from the takeaway side of the business. We ordered two portions of chips and a portion of chicken nuggets. The portion of chips were good and what you would expect at a beach takeaway. However, the chicken nuggets were scandalous. £3.50 for FOUR chicken nuggets - and these are clearly Iceland bargain basement nuggets.

This is the only place for food and drink in Alum Chine Beach that I could find. It's a very nice place. The food is good. Tried their ham pizza. Large portion. Taste was good. I wish the menu had some more options. Service was good. Kind of expensive but then it's the only option there.

Went there for a coffee/tea. Had to wait to be seated. Cleaned the table and removed previous customers crumbs. Did not wait too long for the drink. Enjoyed it.

I was offered money through the internet to get a good grade. That says it all.

Lovely coffee, beer, cheesecake, views and staff ay Vesuvio 2 days ago. We grabbed a terrace table, and chilled for an hour, overlooking the glorious beach at Alum Chine. Good value, friendly, efficient service, indoor seating too and an Italian menu with plenty for everyone. We loved it! Hint: this is super destination if taking the no70 open-top bus, as we did :)

Vesuvio is a well positioned restaurant near the beach at Alum chine. The balcony looks over the sea. It’s a bit disappointing in that the service is hap hazard at the best, and the restaurant is a bit dated.

We were in Bournemouth for our 40th anniversary and visited Vesuvio twice in 2 days as we liked it so much,great food,friendly welcoming staff and great pizza chef🙂"forza Palermo"he'll remember us from that,great guy.

Following a successful visit last year we decided to return to this restaurant 3 days ago while on a day trip to Bournemouth. It has a good menu- something for everyone. The food we ordered was very well presented and tasted as good as it looked, also excellent value for money. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. For me the only downside was the number of dogs there. I have no objection if they are well-behaved and stay under the tables, but some were allowed to lay down between the tables and became a nuisance. However the venue is well worth a visit.

Came over whilst visiting the area and was well worth it. The only disappointment is that we don't live closer to visit more. Best Lasagne I've tasted, and I've tried a few. Partner absolutely loved the spaghetti bolgenese. Kids were happy with their meals. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Great place , great food , great service. If you have kids there is a nice playground right behind the restaurant.

What a lovely time we had at this restaurant. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious and very generous! We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was a beautiful day and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the lovely view. We both had a full English style breakfast which was excellent. Service was also very good.

Really good pizzas and pasta with lovely views over the beach. Portions were generous, including the kids meals. Enormous delicious cakes so save some space for dessert!

10 of us and 2 dogs went for lunch having prebooked. Table arranged so that we were not or did nor disturb others! Very friendly and attentive staff both on booking and during the meal. Food well cooked and generous portions catering for vegetarian and gluten fee requirements as well as an age range of 15 to 80. Great views We will return. Many thanks

Pretty sure Vesuvio must be under new ownership, or perhaps they are simply recruiting a far better calibre of employees. The staff are absolutely charming - unlike the miserable, condescending ones that used to be there - and it is such a lovely place to go to now. As soon as the later hours for summer kick in, we will definitely be back for the dinner menu.

Staff were all really lovely and welcoming on a blustery day. Food was enjoyable. Prices maybe a little expensive, but we enjoyed our visit. The play park at the back is brilliant for kids and the views of the sea are stunning. Marked down on atmosphere mainly due to lack of other customers, it felt a bit dead.... but not awkward, just nice and chilled. In summmary, would highly recommend!

Service staff were very friendly, the portions extremely generous, the food quality good and the restaurant decor very pleasant. Very much recommended.

Best place for breakfast on Bournemouth promenade

Lovely little spot right on the beach, perfect for a bit to eat, and some of the best cheesecake I have had. The service was excellent, staff very attentive and the area was clean and tidy definitely heading back next time I'm down that way.

I loved this place, used to visit everytime we are in the area, but will not be visiting again.Service is really slow.

I come here often in the warmer months with my young son. It’s a great location for the kids to play. The service today was terrible. We arrived and all the tables were filthy. I do appreciate that they looked under staffed. I asked the blonde waitress if I could have a table. She said yes. I had to move the table and chairs myself. It took about 20 minutes to take my drink order. I also asked to order food and was given menus covered in mayonnaise. The table was also still filthy. The only saving grace was a young brunette waitress who came and took the order properly and cleaned the table. I had the lasagna. Which was a good portion, but cold. Anyway, hopefully things will improve before summer.

It's a nice cafe by the beach, with a big playground for kids just behind it. Unfortunately service is a hit and miss. They'll tell you it's a table service but then noone shows up to take order. Then when you go and try to order, you'll be told it's a table service... My biggest problem with this place is the fact that their take away coffee served from a little window beside the restaurant is abysmal. They have one of these coffee machines with buttons for all types of coffees (something you might expect at the office cafeteria or hospital)... They do have a proper coffee machine inside of the restaurant, but they refuse to make a coffee for take away there, without any logical explanation... Maybe they are making too much money and they can't be bothered to take mine... I did offer to bring take away cup to make it as easy for them as possible...

We returned again to this wonderful establishment after moving down to Talbot Woods. We both had their glorious houseburger which came with chunky fries and coleslaw and they were absolutely delicious. We had pints of Aspall cider and Rekordling which was chilled and went down a treat. The chef's food was scrumpcious and very well cooked and the level of service given by their amazing staff is first class, cheerful and attentive and all in beautiful setting overlooking the seafront. The lovely lady who runs this restaurant does a phenominal job and if I could give it a '6 Star' review I would. If you are in the local bournemouth area it's only a short walk down the beautiful alum chine zig-zag walk to the sea front, well worth a visit. They are closing in January for an upgrade and we look forward to returning in February.

Clean table, nice view out. Ordered two coffees. Which took quite a while to appear and were only lukewarm when they arrived. So, nice environment, but slow and lukewarm service.

The restaurant is absolutely freezing. It could be a little gem but unfortunately 0 atmosphere and 0 warmth!!! What a pity. Best location but obviously owned by someone who is happy with ordinary:(

Had a lovely walk along the beach with my partner on a fresh Sunday in October and decided we’d have lunch in the vibrant vesuivo. Once seated at a wonky table we waited to be served, and waited and waited. The waitresses are like robots not on the ball looking but not paying attention. I ordered a vesuivo pizza which was cheese, 3 finely sliced chilles and salty olives. My partner who asked for a well done margarita which came out wet so was set back again to be re-done. This was a really bad experience, had to ask and ask again with the waitresses to make sure things are done correctly. Not what you need when paying hard earned money for a basic Tesco pizza.

Lisa served our table and was really kind and helpful when I changed my order. We were very impressed by her welcome at this restaurant. Thank you again Lisa.

Nice position by the beach (expect to encounter sand everywhere, both inside and out) but we felt the cuisine was only ok and nothing exceptional. Visited with an elderly relative and although he enjoyed his carbonara dish, the wife and I were not so taken with our lasagne and falafel burger choices, which were below what we had experienced in other establishments during our holiday.

It’s October now and the sun is still shining down on Alum Chine beach had a lovely walk and popped Into Vesuvio Italian on the beach front. Serving Madri lager so that’s a plus. Lovely waiters bubbly Spanish girl went and got me the vegan menu. My partner had the the best Bolognaise out of all the ones he had had recently locally so that was good. I had a vegan pizza with extra olives. It’s very hard to cook with vegan cheese which as a vegan I know is actually not that great so no one is at fault here. The real cheese pizzas are very very good. I’ve been coming here since it opened and was fortunate to meet one of the owners today who was truly delightful Nyleen. We chatted and laughed discovering we were both from London. Honestly the location and views have to be one of the best along the coastline it’s truly wonderful and with all developments taking place it’s just heartwarming to know this one view will not change.

ghastly cheap produce. Children's chicken nuggets were rubbery and under cooked. 2 adults had chicken Milanese and were very ill that evening. The third adult had a chicken salad which was ok. Never ever go there its the pits.

We came here earlier in 2023 and it was great food and great service so was looking forward to coming back. Back again late July (27th) and disappointing. Sticky uneven tables, pizza not as good as before and service average. Even after cleaning the table myself (whilst staff watched) the tables were still sticky. Will find alternative places in future.

Vesuvivo has so much potential with its beach side views. Conversely, dirty tables, poor service, overpriced food and drinks is what it excels in.

We booked Vesuvio for our Wedding celebration meal. The staff were all incredibly helpful and really went out of their way to make our time with them extra special. The food and service were both excellent and the views from our table were just brilliant, we could not have asked for a better place to celebrate our special day.

Fantastic view - nice people - good food We love coming to this restaurant it is a pity it’s not open on Monday and Tuesdays. Otherwise we would eat here every night when we are in Bournemouth. Basic delicious Italian food, seafood, salads, kids meals Normally ice cream and three desserts on the menu. Either sit with a Seaview or look onto the beautiful outdoor playground for the children. My daughter loves this place age 5 I love this place aged older with a fantastic view on on the beach. Can’t knock it thank you again

A further 10/15 minutes later - still waiting to be served or even have drinks order taken . We decided to leave. Typical tourist restaurant which can survive despite the poor service it provides. No real attention or care for the customers who visit due to its seafront location

Happy with the olives & beer was ok olives were expensive but nice my problem was a member of staff delivered my drink & olives to my table, then said would you like to pay now or leave it open do I said I’m having more than one so open please, then I was continually pestered by 3 other members of staff to pay !!! Very poor service, eventually I couldn’t be bothered so paid & left, and another customer heard me & said he had the same, so certainly won’t come back here

We had an amazing evening at Vesuvio. Our food was delicious. They made us so welcome with our 2 children. Great waitress, unfortunately I did not get her name as her customer service was fantastic.

Really pleasant staff, dog friendly, clean and the food was good. A little pricey on food but I'm sure they have a hefty price to pay the council for it's location.

Amazing food, calamari at its finest. views are second to none also. Only downside was it was cold inside. would have enjoyed it more if it was warmer.

Ingenious plan to add cheap squirty cream to a piece of cake and a call it a dessert, so they can charge you more. Silly me for not seeing that on the menu! Nearly £20 for 2 small coffees and 2 cakes (with 'orrible cream). View was good though.

Amazing had a Greek salad whereby they happily let me have mozzarella instead of feta and it was huge and tasty. It was very busy but service was good.

We visited 'Vesuvio' recently and found it to be an amazing establishment on the seafront at Alum Chine. The manager and staff couldn't have been more helpful if they tried and gave 'First Class' service to all their customers. We had the large *VESUVIO* Breakfast which was utterly glorious, very well cooked and extremely tasty, ~ probably one of the best breakfasts we have ever had. To accompany this we had Cafe Latte and Orange Juice which were delicious. Can't think of a more lovely place to visit and in such a beautiful setting overlooking the Seafront. Plan to come back next time we are down in Bournemouth.

Just before lunch today 01/10/22 my son had an accident in the council play park next door. He really hurt his finger and was uncontrollable. I was on the verge of tears as it’s probably one of the worst accidents he’s had… A server came out to check we were ok, as we had sort of taken over table 100 with our bags and his bike and the dog… She then went above and beyond and offered us to use their bathroom, gave us a plaster and him a little biscuit 🥹 I just think many other people would have just not bothered, so just want to say, what a kind lady and thank you again. We will be back for food and obvs telling lots of people, kindness at its best 🥰

We hadn't been to Vesuvio for years but met friends here for lunch today. The setting is very good and the weather was glorious, which helps, but a review is of course based on things that the restaurant does or doesn't do. What is most memorable is the superb service from the staff, efficient and friendly. We had Ceasar salads so cannot really comment too much on the cooking but they were excellent and the whole experience one we shall repeat again soon.

We (family of 4) visited the restaurant on Sunday 4 September for my birthday and we were over the moon with the service we received. The food was absolutely amazing, my husband cooks his pizzas from scratch and is very fussy, the pizza he had was absolutely delicious. All the food was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. The lovely waitress must of overheard my husband talking about my birthday, at the end they bought out ice cream with a candle in it and sang happy birthday to me. It made by day! This isn’t our visit and it won’t be our last! Thank you so much lovely people at Vesuvio for a real treat!

Great view good food. Had the meat and cheeseboard to start which was delicious. Could have done with more bread though. Mains were delicious and generous portions. Pricey fir a spot off lunch but well worth it. Staff were friendly.

Perfect spot after a long beach day will be coming back and staff were very friendly. I have already recommended it to friends and families who will be visiting Alum Chine beach. I have visited Vesuvio many times over the years, some good some bad, and through several changes of management - I am yet to return since the recent change of management, but hear that it is very good. However, on visiting today (in passing) I was not encouraged to venture in, looking at the condition of the menu board on the promenade (see attached photos) ... Tatty faded photocopied menus peeling away from cheap sticky tape, bird poo & a dead spider in the cabinet is not an appealing sight and did not encourage me to step inside! Could I recommend to the new management that they take a look at their external menu board and perhaps consider their presentation standards, as this is such a letdown for what, I am sure, is still an excellent place to visit ... one day!

Right on Alum Chine beach, this restaurant has a menu suitable for kids and the unadventurous, it's pretty pricey for what it is, but the location is excellent.

We were a group of 15 and booked for a Saturday lunch. The staff were very accommodating and moved tables around to make sure we all sat together. They were all very friendly and the service was great. The food was lovely and vegetarians and...

Very disappointing to be honest. Service was lovely, premises were great too however. I went for a cold drink and a small bite to eat. Pricey and quality wasn't the best for the small amount we ordered. I will visit again however I hope the food is better next time. The group next to us seemed to really enjoy their food and they ordered a significant amount more than us so maybe it was just a one off. Drinks were good and the staff quickly quietened the noisy customers to offer a better environment 👍

Honestly wasn't very impressed with this 'restaurant' first of all two family members weren't allowed entry 3 times for petty reasons such as having slightly wet hair, having shorts on. If you are a restaurant right next to the beach then it's a bit pathetic...

We finished a weekend on the coast at this place and had excellent service! Beautiful location and great food. The staff make the place though! Joe was brilliant. Forgot my handbag and it was sent on to me. Above and beyond! Will return!
