My husband and I were walking the Cotswold way and stumbled upon this little gem. Yummy food- fresh, creative salads, tasty quiche, a side of perfect crispy potatoes and a very yummy Jamaican ginger cake. But best of all, was the friendly service and fellow diners. Everyone was so friendly and helpful about tips for our walk. The building is very quaint and they had the loveliest posters and art dispalyed on the way to the bathroom. If I hadn't been walking with an already full pack, I would've bought some for sure!

We had been out for the day and were intending to eat at the place we visited but disappointed with the menu we decided to head home. En route driving through Uley we remembered this cafe had been recommended to us previously and so decided to give it a visit. Despite arriving about an hour before closing we were given a warm welcome and chose to sit outside as the sun was finally shining. The seats were wet from an earlier shower and there was nothing available to wipe them with. Luckily I had a supply of tissues. I chose the Buddha bowl although they had run out of smoked salmon so I was offered alternative toppings and my husband had the ham, leek n cheese hash. I was more than happy with my choice but hubby felt his was a little overcooked. Service was friendly, efficient and welcoming and we would probably return again if in the area

It is not often I come home feeling compelled to write a review straight away. But I've just had a lunch experience which might have been good except for service. And what a shame. I arrive on my own, small place, say hello as I walk past the large group of staff, approach a free table and see a reserved sign, go to the next, again reserved, turn around and am told 'Yes I'm afraid they're all reserved'. I feel a bit lost for a few minutes, but decide to brave an outside table in the cold and rain. My coffee comes and I wait 30 mins for my something on toast lunch. When I query it inside, the order had obviously got lost. It will come, I'm told, apologies. I look round desperately (I've got cold through waiting) and see some free seats, but oh no they are reserved too. After a total of 40 mins waiting, my something on toast arrives, again with apologies. I wolf it down in 2 minutes, without a drink (coffee was already 25 minutes gone and cold even then as I'd been waiting to have it with my food). I make a dash for the car to retreat from the cold. And feel disappointed; I'd have done better to go home for lunch. I'm moving to the immediate area and had high hopes for this independent little place having heard about it for a good while. But I will think hard before going again. First, I'm not sure of the logic behind a cafe - a cafe no less - allowing all its tables to be reserved and leaving them to wait emptily for 20 mins, half an hour, 45 mins for scheduled occupation. More importantly, while friendly, the staff seemed to have no eye whatsoever to customer service, the customer's perspective, and I wonder if this comes from a place of complacency. With a bit of presence of mind, here's how it might have gone: 'Hello, do you have a table booked? No? Oh, I'm afraid all the indoor tables are reserved. But we do have outside tables, some with umbrellas, if you'd like to brave the weather, and I can bring a towel out to dry the chair if it has got wet. Or we can offer take away'....'I'm so sorry your lunch got delayed. You had a coffee with it, didn't you? Can I offer you a top up so that you have something to drink with your lunch. Again, I'm sorry for the delay'.

This hidden away cafe is more than a cafe. It has a varied choice of hot and cold drinks plus a vast range of options on their menu list from choice of bread types and side dishes. It will hit the mark for a variety of dietary demands. The quality of a simple sandwich was excellent, tasty and very well presented. On top of that the aervice was as good as you will see in any restaurant yet alone a country cafe. I would advise booking at the weekend. This is a busy, very busy, and well supported local cafe. Thank you all at the Vestry for a very welcoming and tasty stop.

We ate here for breakfast on two occasions and would have had more meals except we did not discover The Vestry until the second week of our trip. The setting is quiet and peaceful, set in an old Vestry building. Spill over graves from the church decorate the yard. And yet, The Vestry is also modern and sassy and very hip. The breakfast was amazing, My husband ate a full plate with eggs and ham and potatoes and sausage. Delicious. I had the cinnamon toast which was to die for. Latte and Mochas were perfect. We also purchased several desserts to take back to our cottage and they were delicious as well. We hope to visit again someday.

I stayed in Uley to do some walking and came here after a rather cool cloudy ramble so was appreciative of the warm atmosphere and absolutely superb food. As a tourist who is looking to sample the good food that the English countryside has to offer I was thrilled to see smoked mackerel florentine on sourdough and dark hot chocolate on the menu. Absolutely perfect. This little place isn't on the main road but well worth the search and quite busy because it's quite popular because it's so good!!

We visited for a child's workshop so spent the time in the cafe. Coffee was really good, nice and strong with good aftertaste. Kept watching the food being brought out to other tables, it looked really good, decent portions and well presented. Made me hungry so I ordered the falafels, these were homemade, came with homemade hummus, olives, sun dried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, salad leaves, some grain, a wrap and side dressing. Cost was £8 and it was very tasty, portion size was good, plenty for one person. I don't think anything cost over £9, compare this to average pub fare at similar prices and you will not be disappointed, come here instead they even sell a few select alcoholic drinks. Will definitely be back, likely when we can sit outside to try something else as if it is as good as the falafels then satisfaction is guaranteed. I noticed that they were also selling whole lamb for £110, very reasonable price, these are hoggets reared by the proprietor.

We visited the Vestry on a recent trip to Uley. Being vegetarian, I was delighted to see that for once I was absolutely spoilt for choice! To drink, I had a strawberry milkshake which was lovely and refreshing, followed by the Brie, tomato and pesto sandwich on granary bread. It was delicious! I wish I'd have tried one of their cakes as they looked amazing. The only downside is that when sitting outside, within 2 minutes of having our food we were surrounded by wasps! But I overheard a staff member explaining that they were doing everything they could to keep the wasps away, so hopefully the wasps will soon disperse. We will most definitely return!

Half of me doesn't want to tell anyone about this place so that I don't miss out on being able to get a seat when I go because after you've been once you will definitely want to come back again. The Vestry has become a regular haunt, not just because the coffee is great (they also have a wide range of tea's and other drinks to) or because the cakes are delicious or even because their ever changing menu is full of fabulous things to tempt your taste buds (last weeks Haloumi chips were just brilliant), but because it is all of these things wrapped up and presented by Nicky and her team in one great package. The atmosphere is relaxed and you can sit quietly pondering the world or chat aimlessly with friends or join in the banter.Whether it's a good breakfast, coffee and cake or a great lunch you are after. The Vestry has gotta be one to try.Just one more thing, when you do go... please leave me a seat !!!!

We have visited Vestry Cafe a number of times, each time exploring something different from the menu. Here's a great little place if you're after tasty coffee with a great flavour, sipping tea from their vintage tea cups whilst sitting in the quiet, pretty garden. Hot drinks can be accompanied by a host of homemade cakes and baked goods (you've got to try the chocolate brownies - they're sheer perfection). For hungrier times there are generous breakfasts, affordable and hugely delicious lunches ranging from toasties and sandwiches (always accompanied by a wide variety of sides - coleslaw, olives and big helpings of salad). The flat breads are fully-loaded and are offered with a broad range of fillings but if you're visiting on a colder day be sure to try out one of Vestry Cafe's homemade hashes - full of sausage, bacon and potatoes. They don't hold back on the helpings or quantity of the meat. Everything we've tried has been cooked to perfection and offered at a very reasonable price. The kids are big fans of the ice cream sundaes as well as the chimes in the garden.Vestry Cafe is housed within an old Baptist chapel which also is home to Prema Arts Centre which is filled with excellent exhibits as well as offering loads of courses, live music, exhibitions and plenty of things to do and see. After stuffing your face in the Vestry, there are plenty of walks in some of Gloucestershire's most beautiful countryside to burn off those excess calories. Or if you want to do it the other way around go for a good hike to build up your appetite before indulging.
