Simple by Hristo's Kitchen in Stroud

Whether it’s a piece of the best cake you have ever had, or a hearty breakfast/brunch, this is your place. Service was quick and polite, the food and drink is affordable and comes in large portions. One of my new Stroud favourites.

DEFINITELY NOT 4.9 RATING!!! The first impression was a nice deco, loads of plants, unfortunately that was quickly ruined by not very friendly or welcoming waitress. We asked for the front door to be closed, and she did not react other than shrugging her shoulders and walking off. Then we ordered (you have to order at the bar- and just to clarify after the response below- this was never an issue!), but then it turned out that the order had gone missing, we had to wait for food for a long time, over 40 min for breakfast!... when the coffee came, apart from being asked if we ordered it and what was the food order, she nearly spilled it all over me by 'throwing 'the cup on the table. They are clearly short staffed (as we learnt afterwards, the waitress was a trainee), and have a big place to be catering for, I feel for them (especially as she had very little- to no support!). In these cases, perhpas they should stop serving food or at least inform the customer that there is a long wait. Due to our experience, i strongly believe that, unfortunately, the rating of 4.9 is hugely misleading. Just to clarify in response to the highly exaggerated comment below—when we were informed about the situation upon the food’s arrival, I sincerely expressed that we were very sorry for what he was going through and that we genuinely felt for him, as we could see him working hard and doing his best. He was clearly so stressed that he completely misinterpreted the intention, which reflects the overall experience we had at the place.

Saturday lunch here. The owner was amazing, so friendly, told us lots about the building. My husband and I shared the mezze with extra kebabs and it was the perfect amount and tasty. My MIL had the chicken and veg broth and highly recommended it. A perfect lunch stop in Stroud.

Simply delicious. Thoroughly recommend going here. The food was superb with generous portions. The mixed meat souvlaki was very good indeed. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. If I'm back this way, I'll definitely be going back.

I had my morning stop at this cafe. The experience was amazing and the atmosphere was very welcome and friendly. The freshness of the bakery and the sweetness of the coffee made my day better. Thanks to the owner, he puts his soul in this place.

Fantastic owner, easy to talk to. Has a lovely springer puppy as well. We turned up for a coffee and go, but ended up having a great sit down chat with the owner and his dog.

Have visited Hristo's every time I'm Stroud. Always a warm friendly welcome and great coffee. Had food here for the first time and it was delicious. Dog friendly venue with treats provided. My new favourite coffee house.

Delightful cafe! Relaxing atmosphere and super-kind owner. After enjoying a lovely coffee there, I dropped my purse ....when I realised a few hours later, I returned and although it was closed, the owner drove across town to return it to me.....THANK YOU so much ! Recommended and will return!

One of the nicest veggie breakfasts I’ve had - and the coffee was great! Food was made fresh for us by the owner, who was really helpful and kind - and made us feel welcomed. His dog is cute and calm and the artworks make the place feel different and unique. So glad we visited.

A group of us spent a really enjoyable Saturday evening here. The Greek dishes, the Greek wine, and the coffees were all outstanding, with excellent service from the amusing and friendly owner. This is a great place and we hope the word gets around !

Just had a surprise meal out at this lovley venue. We were passing by in the rain and saw it was still open. The menu is simple but the food was excellent. We had a very generous souvlaki and a prawn saganaki. Both were generous and very well cooked. We had a glass of wine and a mythos beer and the bill was £35. I wish you all the luck and congratulate the owners for bringing something new to town that is not another kebab shop or ropey pizza joint. We will be back.

This place is absolutely wonderful. I've seen various places come and go at this location over the decades and I just hope this one stays for a long time. As the name suggests, it offers simple, affordable, fresh food and drink. The owner, Hristo is charming and even though I ordered close to closing time (without knowing it) he cooked delicious souvlaki fresh for me and even sat chatting with me past closing time. Prices are excellent value for money, quality is high and most importantly for anything claiming to be a cafe – the coffee is excellent. I walked away with a full stomach and a smile on my face. What a gem of a place, slightly off the Main Street in Stroud. Hristo himself was serving and he was friendly, helpful and pleasant. The food was exceptional - simple, tasty and a good portion. Dogs were welcomed and the whole place had a quiet and homely ambience.

Very much enjoyed our visit this morning. Glad we spotted the sign for it. The coffee was great and the home-made orange and chocolate cake was exceptional. We wish the owner every success. If only this cafe was in our home town!

We never had the chance to try the food as we walked out. The customer service was non existent, face like a slapped bottom, no welcome or greeting, and after sitting there for five minutes we had had enough. We ended up spending our money at The Yard Kitchen, it was superb and was meant to be.

Popped in whilst doing my laundry next door. Had a pot of tea and toasty for lunch. Everything was perfect. I loved the atmosphere and managed to read some of my book on their cosy sofa. I highly recommend a visit, whether washing your smalls or not.

Met with my friend from Birmingham at Simple by Hristo , both had lovely full English breakfasts , was delicious ! Lovely friendly atmosphere, will definitely be back. I’m a regular for coffee , which is amazing !

I met a colleague here today. She's a young woman in her early 20s, quiet and polite. I arrive and ask if she'd like a drink. She says no, just tap water. I order a coffee and water and ask for the wifi code. Owner (loudly): Your friend is rude to use the wifi and not buy a drink. VERY RUDE! Me: Oh, so sorry!! Can I pay for a second coffee? Happy to! Owner: No, but tell your friend she's VERY RUDE. Me (embarrassed now): Sorry. Can I pay you extra for the wifi? She didn't mean to be rude! Owner: No, but it's BAD BEHAVIOUR (glares at her) Me: Right. Um, what would you like me to do? Owner: (carries on grumbling) Fair enough, it's annoying if people come in and not everyone orders a drink - but I offered twice to pay extra for her, and he carried on making loud remarks about her in front of the entire cafe. Odd and not very nice.

Favourite cafe in Stroud! Visit pretty much every time we are in Stroud. Busy enough to have good vibe but relaxed enough to not feel rushed or crowded. Best hot chocolate in the area!

Beautifully redecorated . The coffee is superb. The food is fabulous. I had a lovely breakfast, my wife had avocado, sun-dried tomatoes on toasted fresh baked bread . We really enjoyed our food . The owner is great and his ideas and ethos are wonderful. I highly recommend a visit here.

Outstanding - have returned seven times in a fortnight whilst staying in Stroud! Try the cakes which are all made on the premises - they are delicious! The Americano is the best in Stroud and further afield! A carpark is close by and some off-street parking.
