Well how disappointing to be charged more money for less choice. Before you had a lovely table laid out with fresh prawns, roll mops, selection of pate's, Egg Mayonnaise to name but a few things...... Now prawn cocktail ha ha is in plastic pots what...

I was really looking forward to returning to the carvery . What a let down , so sad almost everything has changed . The food was tasteless and poorly presented . Very limited choice of starters and desserts compared to previous visits . The main wasn't good , mashed potatoes were cold, parsnips were stringy, stuffing balls were brick hard , Yorkshire pudding looked burnt and was inedible , other veg tasteless , didn't put the carrots on my plate as they looked so bad , ham was caked in mustard which doesn't appeal to all pallets !

Have been coming here for our Xmas lunch for 5 years, we won't be back. No Christmas decorations, a bare tree. Poor range of starters watery tomatoes in the salad, there was no flavour in the prawn cocktail. The meats were ok but the choice of vegetables was limp carrots, overcooked and hard brussels, overcooked broccoli, wet cabbage the cauliflower cheese was ok. The hot sweet was luke warm apple pie, cold sweets served in small square plastic pots were friut salad 2 types of melon a bit of pineapple if lucky and blue berries, lemon cheesecake which was a sprinkle of biscuit lemon mouse and cream or chocolate mouse and cream, little pots of ice cream or waffles and sauces. There use to be such a huge choice of starters, vegetables and sweets.

This has always been one of my favourite places for a sunday roast, but will not be returning again. We have not managed to go since the beginning of the year, and were shocked to see there had been so many changes to the carvery. The selection for the starters and desserts were halved, with not much choice at all and even the roast was missing parsnips, mash and a few other bits we had had on previous occasions. We were offered 'hot' apple pie for dessert, (I say this lightly, as my pie was practically cold!!) but no mention even of Christmas pudding! Its your Christmas carvery, surely you should have that! There was no atmosphere, no decs, and to finish it off, we were asked to leave our table once we had eaten, and take our drinks out to the bar, ready for the next lot in! We have had so many lovely Christmas get togethers here, but no more. Shame, lovely place, lovely hotel, but they have gone wrong somewhere. definitely not worth the money now.

The whole experience was overall brilliant, we were greeted at the desk by one of the waitresses Charlene who showed us to a table even though it was relatively busy and we didn't have a reservation. We were then asked by our server, Rory if we wanted drinks almost right way. Rory was attentive and cheerful and the service overall was excellent. The food was excellent, especially the mussels and chips although the minute steak was a bit tough. Brilliant experience and would definitely go again.

This used to be excellent on a Sunday lunchtime and we've been coming here for years and every time was a total success.... BUT in August this year we took my step son and family here for a Sunday lunch at 4.30ish.... We basically had the dregs of the food, they were reluctant to re-stock the starters and desserts tables - which i might add are the quarter of the size they used to be - and it was just useless really! It's a poor decision to have smaller tables for the desserts and starters and just not worth the money anymore!!!! We won't be coming here again.... Can't fault the lady taking the money as she's very nice.

Well I don't know where to start....................I phoned the hotel and booked a table for 8, our party consisted of 4 children and 4 adults. I was given a time of 4.30pm which suited us very well, when I called I did ask the lady on the end of the phone what time they finished, she told me that the last table was in at 4.45pm, I then asked whether there would be plenty of food left at that time as we didn't want the dregs of what was left, she assured me there would be plenty of food. We arrived at the hotel at 4pm and had a drink in the bar, at 4.25pm I popped into the restaurant just to see if our table was ready and was told No it would be another ten minutes as it hadn't been cleared yet. When we were eventually seated it was a complete shambles, I took the children to get there starters.....there was no bread, no butter, very little cold meats, 2 prawn cocktails......I spoke to the lady that was there to replenish the table and eventually she restocked. Well then it was the main carvery, again I took the children to get their dinner first, there was no turkey, very little beef, the only thing they had left was gammon, this was an absolute disgrace considering there was more people in the queue to have their dinner and still 4 adults from our party who had to get their dinner. We ended up not eating due to their being no meat left, the chefs were coming out from the back and having a go at the lady taking the money......totally unprofessional. There was little organisation, staff were not clearing the tables and were more interested in chatting with their colleagues. Very disappointed in the level of service offered and the quality / quantity of food available. We will never return here.

I stayed at the Village hotel for 3 nights and ate in the Verve grill. The restuarant was clean and neat and service was generally good although at times could be a bit slow drinks wise. The menu was good as were the portions, i would recommended the rack of ribs and the tuna steak, others in my group tried the cod and muscles which they found to be very good. The food arrived swiftly and was well presented. Price wise it was a little expensive but all in all good value for money. I would eat there again.

The Sunday carvery has really gone down hill here, as a previous visitor of the Sunday Carvery i always had a great experience, but your recent menu and delivery changes have obviously saved you money but reduced the customer experience for the same high prices.Less choice of starters, rather than buffet style the choices are already put in v small containersLess choice of desserts, small choc mousse, small lemon mousse or fresh fruitThe waffle and ice cream bar is a little embarrassing at how poorly that has been constructedThe main dinner choice is good but standard of cooking poor, hard vegetables, under cooked potatoes and small offerings of meat, although you can return for more.No more re visits for me

Any improvements/suggestions I could make? Well a cheese board would be good.

Ordered the bread board (bloomers) as a starter, the filer with chips for main and crime brûlée for dessert. The bread came out with the steak, which I felt was a bit late, but the flavor of the three bloomers was excellent! The flavor of the steak was okay, however could have used a bit more sear to lock in flavor. Steak fries were average, and crime brûlée was not very special. Overall experience was average.

Just got home after having a Sunday calvery with my husband & 3 children. We used to visit quite regularly a few years back & always enjoyed our meals & thought it was great value. We chose to have Christmas day dinner here a couple of years ago & had an awful Christmas dinner which we complained about but didn't get much reaction from the staff, so haven't visited since. We decided to give it another go today as we felt things may of changed......& they certainly have!! The actual main course was still very nice with the 3 meat choices, selection of vegetables & all the other trimmings that go with your roast. But we were a little disappointed by the selection of starters. Before you could help yourself to a wide variety of different starters.....now they are made up in single pots. For example my son use to love making up a prawn cocktail. Now they are ready made with 3 prawns in each pot. The desserts were extremely disappointing!! I was looking forward to a slice of delicious chocolate fudge cake or the cheesecake they used to have out that you could help yourself too. There was always a jug of cream too. Today there were small pots ready made. You had a choice of lemon cheesecake (which was just a lemon moose with a soft sandy biscuit base), fruit salad or a chocolate moose. The waffle station was a let down too!! Where have the fresh strawberries & thick whipped cream gone? Where have the cheese board & crackers disappeared too? We were also not told that we could of ordered apple pie either.....we will not be visiting again.

The two ladies serving our table were excellent considering the pressure they were under, they were both very friendly and apologetic. We have eaten here numerous times as we stay at the hotel when we visit family in Maidstone. Breakfast is always fab and we'll organised but the evening meal this time was not great. Waitresses were friendly and were really trying hard but they were under staffed and there was an hour wait before starters and main. The manager unfortunately looked miserable and walked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and the staff must find it hard to keep motivated. The Malta Inn next door do a good meal so there is another option for an evening meal. The hotel is great but the restaurant let it down a bit. Hopefully next time will be better, but like I said breakfast is always great. They have that nailed!

We used to love Village hotels so were looking forward to our family Christmas gathering very much. Oh dear. To start with we were given the wrong table meaning it was very awkward for the wheelchair user in the group. Then we waited ages for drinks and received the wrong order. Bland soup. Awful awful carvery all the vegetables appeared to have come from a freezer. Not a sprout in sight. The turkey was fine but that is all. The stuffing left a horrid artificial taste in the mouth. Decent dessert choices but had no cream available. Simply not good enough. Would not recommend.

We were celebrating a family event with a group of 15 booked. The booking staff were rude & unhelpful on the phone, and when we arrived, we found that had placed 4 of the group at the other side of the restaurant from the rest. There was an empty table next to it, but the staff refused to swap tables until we just did so ourselves. We waited over 20 mins before waving down staff to ask if we could order drinks, and this set the tone for the rest of the service received. The starter selection was fine, but their was no help for a vegetarian in our group, and only a tastless soup available as even the salad had meat mixed in. The main course was a carvery, which was good, but again there was no veggie option that didn't require prior notice and a further 20 min delay while it was then prepared, and nobody mentioned this until everyone else was getting the main. It then consisted of an approx 5 cm x 5 cm square of veggie lasagne. The same with dessert; several cold options and hot waffles, which were all good, but then other people had hot desserts. When asked, staff said that we could have asked for hot desserts, but nobody told us they were available. In summary: Food ok, but poor information. Service was very poor indeed. We shall not be returning.

We chose Verve Grill for our family Christmas lunch because it has good disabled access and one of our party was in a wheelchair. When we booked 5 weeks earlier, we were assured we would be given one of the tables just inside the entrance to the restaurant, with easy access to the disabled toilet. When we arrived, our table was over against the far wall and we had to move furniture, and disturb diners at tables en route in order to get the wheelchair to the table. Using the toilet during the meal just wasn't an option as we would have had to disturb too many people. The service wasn't great - they got both our drinks order and our dessert order wrong, and didn't wait for everyone to finish eating before clearing plates away.On a positive note, the Christmas carvery was very good, and there was a good choice of desserts.

For, what was, a fairly expensive menu, the restaurant was let down by the, virtually, non-existant service. The waiting staff studiously avoided watching our table (probably because they were embarrassed by the long delay between order and delivery.I ordered the Grilled Cajun Chicken, which arrived with French fries which must have been delivered from MacDonald's by the inedible level of pre-salting (although the later's are golden brown, not the medium to rare fries served!)We ordered a bottle of rose, but were served with one glass to share among 6 people! Once the bottle was delivered slowly to the table it was unopened! self service seems the motto here! No tasting was offered! When that bottle was despatched we had the devil's own job catching the eye of a waitress to re-order (again, finally, plonked on the table un-opened!Desert took almost an hour to arrive, after a long search for a waitress - who had all disappeared in the back....All in all, despite the tasty food, not an experience I want to repeat.

I used to look forward to my stays at the Village and part of that was because of the Verve Grill and Bar but yesterday was very disappointing. The food was OK but the staff seemed to not want to be there and the happy go lucky service I received in the past was absent. Good food needs good service or it changes your perception of the meal. And unfortunately that is what has happened. The menu is a basic pub menu but that is what is advertised so you get what you see but the service used to be a lot happier which added to a positive experience. Without the service the menu seems limited and bland and the whole place loses it's edge.

My husband and I ate here one Sunday having been told that the Sunday roast is lovely. However when we arrived the restaurant was very busy and there were children running all over the place while people with hot plates of food tried to avoid them. We were seated and the layout explained to us. The starters were not as fresh as we would have liked and there were no covers on the food so people could so easily have coughed over them. We queued for a long time to get our roast meal. The beef itself was rather dry. There was a good selection of vegetables. But once again we found ourselves trying to avoid children running around the restaurant while we were carrying our hot food. Having decided that I didn't want to face another walk around the restaurant I decided to have sticky toffee pudding which in my opinion was the best course of the meal. I have nothing against children but believe that a restaurant is not a playground and therefore they should have been sat down with their families.

We were "encouraged" to sit down at our table fairly early in the evening, but it was a good 45 mins to an hour before any food appeared - and it wasn't even that good when it did arrive! The tables were too tightly packed together and when we finally finished eating and got up to dance, there was no room on the dance floor anyway! We arrived at around 5.40pm and were concerned that they would be beginning to clear the food away as the carvery finishes at 6pm, but the waiting staff assured us we could take our time. I was half expecting the food to be a bit dried up but actually it was still fresh and very good indeed. The selection of starters, mains and desserts was very impressive and everything was very tasty. The waiting staff who were all young were doing an excellent job of clearing used plates and asking us if we needed more drinks, when I had been half expecting them to be standing around chatting after what must have been a very busy lunchtime and afternoon. OMG this is superb value for money. It's a five course eat as much as you like for £17.95 - soup, salads, carvery, desserts, cheeses. Unreal - whilst we didn't have soup the salads were amazing - prawns, continental meats, Greek, Caesar. The roast had three choices of meats plus veggie options from the kitchen. The puddings were lovely banoffee, cheesecake, piles of profiteroles, fresh fruit salad. Simply lovely and totally (actually uncomfortably) stuffed. We re booked for Mother's Day in fact.

This was the second time we had eaten here and whilst actively going to a hotel restaurant is not the first choice for a quick bite when you do not feel like cooking, it was convenient. Moreover, there is a good value early bird deal, eat between six and seven. Three courses for two comes to £35. The Goan fish curry and the burger were tasty and of good portion sizes. The staff were friendly and the service well paced.

In the evening of our stay at The Village we ate at The Verve restaurant as part of our deal and our waiter was just excellent: he was professional and friendly and I would say, provided the one of the best services we've ever had eating out! My husband has a lot of food intolerances that are not always easily catered for when eating out but what really helped was that our waiter was well informed about all the ingredients of the meal choices and got what my husband needed quickly and in a really accommodating and professional manner. The food was really excellent too. My husband really enjoyed his food and I loved the tortellini and also the peanut butter and chocolate parfait! We were both really impressed with all three courses of our meals; it was a different league to most dining out experiences and combined with the excellent service, just made it perfect (particularly for the price). We were really touched by the care and attention shown and would definitely recommend.

Started with eggs benadict, really lovely! You could tell everything was freshly sourced and the chefs care about customer service. I then had the rump steak which was too big to eat it all but I enjoyed every mouthful. Tender, juicy and flavoursome! This was my first visit, but will probably be my last. We had booked a table but waited 3 or 4 minutes for staff to acknowledge us.As a cavery goes it is probably classed as value for money at £12.95 per head if you have a big appetite. This includes starters of soup or salad/ cold meats, you could have all of it if you were very hungry. The mains were turkey, beef or gammon with a good choice of vegetables..Cauliflower cheese with a sauce like water, carrots that were dried out under the heat & roast potatoes swimming in fat! On a plus point my husband loved the mashed potato. Lots of choice of desert & or cheese & biscuits. I decided on cheese & biscuits but unfortunately the biscuits had not been replenished & there was only a choice of two different types. The cheese needed replenshing to. The wine was overpriced half a caraf of house wine was £13.00. If you have a big appetite & would give it a try otherwise I don't think it is value for money.

A friend and I went for dinner on a Mondy night so was not busy. We had their special that was on the board sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice. Have to say the sauce looked like a bad science experiment, played spot the chicken and it tasted awful like a microwave value meal. It is sad because it does have a nice vibe, with lots of parking.

We ate at the Verve for a party and met family who had booked the restaurant. The atmosphere was pleasant and my niece was given plenty of things to keep her occupied and we had fun with the sticker book and drawing activities. Drinks were fairly prompt, however food service was very very slow we waited quite some time for our starter (approx 30mins) our plates were left for some time, then we waited about 45 mins for our main course. My husband ordered fillet steak medium rare, when it finally arrived it was well done. We sent it back and was told it would be 10 minutes. By the time his meal arrived (still not a medium rare steak) the rest of the table had finished. I ordered a starter that could also come as a main dish, but was served the starter anyway, I was so hungry from waiting, I just ate it. Our plates from our mains were again left for quite some time. We were impressed that my husband wasn't charged for the steak without having to say a word about it. We assumed from the attire of folk in the reception that there was a wedding on, and this may have been why service was slow. None the less, the staff were polite. If we stayed at the hotel again we would give it another go.

Wasn't my idea to go here...Anyway, a party of nine, pre-booked including two children. Drinks order was taken failry promptly. Then we waited. Quite a while passed when one of the party noticed that the drinks had been placed on a table next to us! So, drinks dished out, we then got the chance to order our food. The two children chose pizza off the childrens menu and one of the party ordered steak, medium rare. The food then took a good 45 minutes. It arrived in dribs and drabs. The steak was well over cooked and the children were made to wait even longer for their pizza - their Father went and enquired as to where their food was and it still took another 5 minutes to come out! The rest of us had to start otherwise the food would have been stone cold as it only came out luke-warm. If it had been down to me, I would have complained and not paid, but it wasn't. I just get to inform all the Trip Advisor readers how bad it was. I seriously wouldn't bother going there.

The three of us ordered main courses and desert and whilst I can praise the ambiance of the place and the pleasant staff, the food was not of the same standard.Dont get me wrong, it wasn't horrible just boring. A piece of steak on a plate with a mushroom sitting on top of a beef tomato and that was it, fries on a separate plate which really wasn't necessary given the huge plate and lack of anything else.My wife had the ribs and had no complaints it just lacked any real presentation.Overall it was okay but with so many other choices I probably wouldn't go back.

Food was cold and the worst I have ever eaten. Abba tribute band seemed to be 2 young girls who had previously had a bit of a practice in their lounge and wouldn't even make it through an X factor audition and most of the other diners were drunk before they started so you can imagine how the night progressed! Would never go back. Where did they get that food from? A large piece of turkey roll, cold, odd tasting stuffing in middle, cold potatoes and sprouts, fake nasty cheap yule log that had never seen any real chocolate and a huge dollop of tasteless cream. At £40 avoid at all costs. Yes, the bouncers were a good sign of the type of evening to come! Not all your customers are so drunk they can't tell when they are being ripped off!

We had the sunday buffet roast at the hotel, and I have to say I was reasonably impressed. Soup or cold hor's doevres for starters, then a choice of roasts with all the trimming, followed by a choice of desserts. The food was fresh and well cooked, and you couldn't fault the choice. For £15 per head you couldn't complain, they recommend you go back as many times as you want instead of overloading your plate and there being lots of waste. I really enjoyed it, mind you we did have good company too.

Service was good and staff pleasant. However, prices were high for the quality of the food, in my opinion. A sirloin steak is £23 and the green salad comprised green lettuce and red lettuce and a dressing! The meat was extremely tough so I sent it back, staff were helpful and replaced it but to be quite honest I think it should have been excellent for this price. My guests enjoyed the ribs which were huge but again a bit expensive.

We booked this for my sons 18th and couldn't be more pleased. The staff albeit young could not do enought to cater for our every needs, we took banners etc over earlier on in the morning and were put up prior to us being seated and our foil confetti was scattered over the table. The food was hot and there was a fantastic variety of starters and deserts. Gravy could have been a bit thicker and the beef was a bit tough but other then that we could not fault it. We booked for 1.30 and had the table until 5.15, we were not rushed, plates were cleared discreetly between courses.House wine was £15.95 a bottle and not a bad quality. It was approximately £3.00 dearer per head than the nearest carvery of this standard but you do get what you pay for and can go up as many times as you like. Under threes eat free over that they pay £7.95 which is a bit steep when you think of the average appetite of a three-seven year old but as it was so good I was happy to pay.The only thing which annoyed me was when I booked, it went through to a 0800 number and I was told a booking of this size 10 adults and three children could only be booked in at 5.30, even though the carvery was not fully booked. I nearly refused the slot but the receptionist did say that I may be contacted before then and be offered an early booking. Thank goodness two days later the village rung diresct and informed me I shouldn't have been told that.I definitely cant wait to go back and would book for any occasion

We live nearby, so went for a Friday night meal with six year old. Wife and I both chose from the pre-7pm menu, which was excellent value. The food was very good and service very attentive and friendly. Good children's menu with nice, thought out activity pack. There were a couple of large parties at other tables who got rather loud and boisterous, but generally the atmosphere was pleasant.Only real gripe was when we asked for the bill and got a talk about the inability of the till to register the children's meal properly, and how consequently we would have to go and see someone at the till to sort it out. Made to feel as though we were at fault. We really didn't need to know this and were treated to the same explanation when we went over to the till to try to pay. This was unnecessary and just left a bad taste after a good dining experience. Also meant there was no way to leave a gratuity so they lost out there too. Surely they can find a way to programme their system so you can pay at the table without a long lecture on the IT foibles of the establishment.

Although as a vegetarian myself the choice of food was limited, apparently you should pre order your vegetarian choice on arrival, so to give the chef time to prepare your meal, which we were unaware of. Therefore I declined the waiting time, so I could join the rest of my party and start our meal at the same time. The food overall was of a good standard, I must say that the seating was very restrictive, I was knocked into at least three times while trying to have my meal, this I find very, very annoying, but can be unavoidable if the seating is restrictive.
