Buffet breakfast. Most options available; asked the waitress for a poached egg, and this was done. Fast and efficient staff.

Reasonable menu of pub-grub. Atmosphere a bit lacklustre, but quality of service particularly commendable: friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. Food fresh and well presented, and in generous portions. Reasonable range of beers and wines. Very competitively priced.

Visiting Swansea while my partner is on business here. We are staying in the hotel attached. We are not exactly on a budget but like to be careful on what we spend. Looking at the menu the choice of food wasn't brilliant but there were a few options. What shocked us the most was the price! The cheapest meat dish was the burger and even that was £15!! The food was average, and tasted good which is a bonus, but we will be trying the beefeater across the road which does 3 courses for £15! Needless to say, this verve bar was pretty empty, the staff were polite and helpful. Pity it's so expensive else it might have been fuller!

Have only eaten here once but wouldn't return. The menu - and prices! - suggested something a little bit special but the food was disappointing. The indications for a poor evening were there when I sat at an uninspiring table with worn veneer and thin paper serviettes, one of only two diners on a Friday evening. My starter, a ham hock terrine, was unpleasant to the point of inedible. The best thing about the main course, a smallish portion of mussels & fries, was the delicious white wine, garlic and chorizo sauce. Unfortunately there was only a small, inadequate amount of sauce. I didn't risk dessert, the first two courses having been such a let down. With a small glass of Savignon Blanc and the tip I left the table still hungry and over £30 lighter! From arrival to departure staff were friendly and efficient, although not exactly kept busy as the place was so empty, and consequently soulless. Clearly with so many new eateries opening in Swanseas SA1 people in the know don't eat here.

We have just had an excellent meal in pleasant surroundings at the Verve, but what really stood out was the attentive, friendly and professional staff. So many times you get treated sharply or totally ignored in hotel restaurants, but here we felt welcome and each member of staff went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our meal and also our stay. Special mention should go to Stephen who resolved a small issue in such a professional manner that we were taken aback. The food itself was surprisingly good for a hotel set dinner. Stand out dishes were the generously portioned smoked salmon and a lovely haddock fishcake although this was served at thermostat nuclear temperature. For the first time ever my children left some of their sticky toffee pudding as they were too full - wonders never cease!

We went for the Sunday lunch at the Village hotel verve grill last weekend, and after visiting there quite a few times over the past couple of years was looking forward to it with family of 3. We arrived before the usual lunch rush so were expecting a good time. The staff whilst being polite were very slow, asked us if we wanted soup on 2 occasions but then never brought it to the table. The starters table has changed since we used to go, with the variety and quality decreasing significantly, with nasty plastic pots being used to divide portions of everything and making everything look very tacky and not very appealing. The carvery was of a good standard, with a good choice of veg, however it did taste a little like it had been under the heaters a long time and not very fresh. The usual choice of sauces and condiments has now been removed but are available if you can grab one of the staff to ask for them. The desserts have effectively been removed - they are now at the entrance and this has gone from a wide range to prepotted icecream in a freezer, 1 cake in a small plastic pot and toppings for the icecream. Later on we did find out that there were some other desserts on offer from the kitchen, but once again the staff didnt ask us so we did not get the choice. Price wise, it used to be very competitive, however now with all the changes i would say that it does not really compete with any other chain of sunday lunch carverys and I do not think we will be returning again for sunday lunch

Nice setting, waiting staff friendly and efficient... food is really quite good, especially for a chain hotel even if it is a tad overpriced for what it is. The big thing to watch out for though is the price of a lot of the drinks, be careful and look at the drinks menu before committing... I sat down and the person showing me to my seat straight away asked anything from the bar? So I said yes I would have a large Savignon Blanc, which to me is an ordinary wine.... When the bill came up it was £10! though after questioning this was reduced to a one of their more reasonable Savignons at £7.35, when I got home I looked on line and saw I could have had even cheaper ones or indeed a Chenin Blanc for £5,35 which is much more a normal price for a wine in Swansea. Also I ordered a coffee which was charged at £3.25 although the menu says £2.95. Just watch the charging, its that sort of thing that puts you off a place.

Booked for a birthday meal however table set up for the wrong amount of diners. Took a very long time to receive any menus and once drinks were ordered also took an excessive amount of time for them to arrive, which the staff had to be reminded about. The food itself was delicious. I ordered the Thai spring rolls which were very tasty and the pollock with mash for main. The serving sizes were good. The wine was quite pricey.Unfortunately the food took an age to arrive, despite it being a Monday and not particularly busy. They also made a few mistakes with our order which then weren't remedied on the bill. At the end of the evening when we tried to split the bill to pay, we all had to go through our bill and say who ate what to get individualised bills to pay by - a little frustrating and time consuming. Apparently this was the only way it could be put through on the system.Overall, great food but let down by the service. Unfortunately I wouldn't go back.

We find the Sunday lunch very good, with a large variety of choices for 2 adults, 3 children with 1 being a fussy eater.First you need to divert the kids away from the table of desserts - if they had their way it would be waffles and chocolate sauce for starter, main and dessert.Starters range from salads and soups. The main is a carvery with good choice of vegetables. My eldest loved the fact he could pile his plate up with as much as he wanted. Lot's of choice for desserts too with cheeses, cakes, waffles and puddings.Been here about 3 times now for Sunday lunch and it's been good every time. Service was excellent with friendly staff.

I came here for a party and we had selected the buffet option. The selection we were met with was basically plates and plates of greasy cheap breaded offerings. It was horrendous and a heart attack waiting to happen. Considering we paid £10 per person there wasn't a lot on offer. Moreover everything appeared to have been fried in the same oil and it all tasted the same - awful! It was also really difficult to get hold of any staff members; the food was thrown on the table quickly and the server departed. There were no napkins, no cutlery provided. We had to constantly chase.

As long term members to this leisure club we have stayed in at least 10 different villages and eaten in their various restaurants, and have always enjoyed the food .but there's something about Swansea that's not right. We have eaten here when it was originally 'The Verve' ,again when it changed to Vinny & Veto ( several times) so tried again now it's back to Verve!! Nothing's changed ! No atmosphere ,over cooked tiny servings of food! Why can't it be on a par with other village restaurants!! It's a chain so portion size should be the same but no way,Swansea has got it wrong ,no wonder it always seems quiet when we look in.

I did not complain as I didn't see the point. I will not eat there again. This place was recommended- I could not do the same! Ate here during a work appointment, and was disappointed from the start. Firstly the sofas were impossible to sit on in a dignified way. A sparkling water and a small white wine spritzer was £8.10 - this is Swansea not London. Then things went from disappointing to horrid, ordered prawn and crab cocktail, checked if they were fresh, no crab and frozen prawns! a bit like Faulty Towers duck surprise! My colleague had to wait 20 minutes for her mussles while we all sat there like lemons waiting with our starters in front of us! My main course was a maximum of 3 ounces of sea bass, over cooked with gritty water cress/spinich couldnt tell. We had to wiat til half way through main course for water we had ordered with started. The one thing Swansea has is water! In summary extremely overpriced, poor food and disappointing service, will not visit again.

We went to the Verve Grill for my birthday Sunday lunch, and we were not disappointed. We had a fantastic meal, which catered for everybody's tastes. There were 5 courses to choose from.Starters were soup, salad, prawn cocktail, pasta, lots of different types of meat and fish.Carvery was three meats, gammon, turkey and beef, Salmon. The chef was only to happy to help with any queries, such as, was the gravy suitable for vegetarians and then proceeded to make a vegetarian friendly gravy. The waffles were amazingThere was a pasta stationThe deserts were quite something, my only comment, was that nothing was labelled, so for those with food allergies/intolerances, it was a little unclear. but, if you asked any of the staff, they were more than happy to help out with any queries. It was positively roofed, yet there was no shortage of unlimited buffet food.Would definitely eat here again :-)

DO NOT EAT HERE. I have never had such appalling service in a restaurant. The staff had no idea how to run a service. Although the starter arrived promptly, that was the only thing that happened as it should. The wine was delivered to the table, not opened, and left. We then had to ask for glasses to drink it from. We then had to ask again for the water we'd ordered half an hour earlier. After an hour of staring at our empty plates, we finally attracted the attention of a waiter and asked where our main course was. He had no idea, but duly took our order again, but left the plates! The main arrived- overcooked, but acceptable. After a further hour of being ignored, we finally managed to get our table cleared. We informed the shift leader of our unhappiness and were told that it was because the staff were all new and inexperienced. Surely not a good plan on a busy Friday evening in a city centre hotel. Had the meal not been part of a weekend package I would have walked out in disgust without paying. It took over 3 hours to have a 3 course meal of average pub grub. This is one place NEVER to eat at in Swansea.

We booked the day before for a late lunch in the restaurant, taking advantage of their grandparent/child eats free for every full paying adult at the 5 course buffet style Sunday carvery.I am usually very cautious of buffet style meals as I often find the main emphasis is on quantity and not quality! In this instance however it couldn't have been further from the truth! The choice of starter/main and dessert was immense but also everything I sampled was of a very high quality also! There was even a station where you could have a fresh pasta dish cooked in front of you as an alternative/in addition to the carvery! At the same station fresh waffles were made with an option to add any topping imaginable!Taking advantage of 'kids eat free' our £12.50 a head meals worked out very reasonable indeed for our family. We'll definitely return soon!

We recently stayed in the Village Hotel, which was lovely and decided to eat in their Verve Grill. Oh what a mistake! the service was absolutely terrible. We waited 45 minutes for our dinner to come, when it came it was very nice but spoiled by the long wait. Then we waited and waited and waited to be offered a dessert but in the end just gave up and ended up having to pay at the bar. They desperately need a restaurant manager as the staff were all over the place, completely disorganised; everyone was complaining it was such a shame, as if they could get the restaurant service right (that includes cleaning the tables in the morning to reduce the queue of people waiting to be seated) then they would have the perfect hotel restaurant package.

Shown to our seat and then ignored for the next 30 minutes whilst others who arrived after us were served both food and drink. If my mother, who could hardly walk, had been diabetic, this would have been extremely serious for her health. Left without a meal and informed the restaurant staff and hotel reception of our disgust at this treatment. Located in the Village Hotel, this resturant is sophistocated and chic. With a modern decor it is not a homely feel.We were happy with the service, we were quickly shown to a table and offered drinks. The grill looks as if it is basing itself on the hotel clientel. The prices for everything is more than anyother resturant of this standard, but i believe this is due to the normal customers staying at this hotel on buiness with company credit cards.Menu is vast with a nice selection of brasserie foods. Food was well presented and tasty. This place doesnt really give you to much bang for your buck, but if you feel like impressing someone then this could be your place. We each had the soup special (spiced chickpea) which was delicious (came with some white baguette slices) and half a toasted sandwich each (they allowed us to combine two from the menu which was great) - took a while to come but was very good and came with some salad leaves/coleslaw and a few crisps. Finished off with a lovely chocolate cannoli.
