Had a lovely meal with my family for my birthday, i booked a table but arrived an hour early so we could have a drink 1st, was greeted by a friendly lady who asked if we would like to sit at our table early and she would take our drink orders and serve us to save us waiting at the bar, she gave us fantastic, friendly service throughout our meal and was happy to take photos even though she was busy, I found out her name was Joanna, I eat out a lot in Manchester in some great restaurants and dont always get good service which I think is very important, there was 8 of us and all of our food came out together, was all well presented, hot and tasty, we had a very nice relaxed meal and a great afternoon, will definitely be back.

Booked for Christmas meal with friends, we ate here a few years again and it was a nice, upmarket restaurant, however it’s now been renovated and not for the better We basically ended up eating burgers in a loud, rowdy sports bar!! If you want to go out in jeans and a footy top this place is for you, if you want something with a bit more class, give this place a wide berth

The Sunday lunches that are offer at the Ashton Village Grill are fantastic and very good for the price, especially when kids eat for free. The buffet bar for starters and deserts are fantastic. Visited 28/8/18 and not impressed with the service or quality of food. Took 2.5 hours in total for 2 courses All waiters/ waitresses all looked under 20 and seemed to be new so did not have a level of service expected in a Village Hotel. Salmon was ok but very pricey. Steak stroganoff had a strange taste which we linked to the cream as when the chocolate mousse arrived topped with cream smelt off and definitely tasted it.( Bit like baby sick). Think they might have to check the dates or fridge temps. Worst £92.00 spent on 3 people I’ve ever spent .

Myself, my husband and our two friends and there baby visited today for a carvery. When I booked I requested a high chair but that wasn't at the table and we had to ask for it. When we arrived we were asked by 3 members of staff what name we had booked under and were told ok 1 minute 1 minute. When we were seated we were told our waiter would be over to take a drinks order. 10 minutes later no one had been over so we went and asked the same lady who seated us could we order drinks she then took our order and brought the drinks over, she then told us that we could help our selves to the starters and carvery and if we wanted the soup we were to order it from our waiter (we still had no idea who our waiter was) another 10 minutes passed and no one had been over so again we had to go and ask could we order the soup, that arrived 5 minutes later, afterwards we all went to the carvery and the chef who served us was very helpful and pleasent and the food was lovely. About 15 minutes after we had finished our food a waitress come over to clear our plates she took mine and my husbands plates and then asked if anyone wanted the dessert off the special menu our friends did and about 15 minutes later it arrived and was served to them but then she walked off and didn't clear there dinner plates by this point there wasn't much room on the table so we had to move the plates onto another table ourselves, again another 20 minutes passed and the table hadn't been cleared and there was no check back, we wanted to order more drinks but by this point we actually thought we were being annoying as we were constantly up asking for things so we asked for the bill and then again had to go An look for someone to make our payment. I myself am a waitress and I know it can be hard work and very demanding but the majority of the staff apart from one man seemed to be stood around chatting. It's such a shame because the food was lovely as were the surroundings, I will go back to the village in Hyde next time as the service is much better.

We booked in on Sunday morning online, really easy to do. Arrived for 1 o'clock lunch, this was really early for us but my daughter had plans for the afternoon so we had to booked as early as possible. We arrived and the lady explained how the carvery worked here as we hasn't eaten here before, she explained we would be looked after by her colleague. He promptly arrived and took our drinks order, he advised that the soup of the day was veg and that he would bring it to us. There were only a couple of other people in the restaurant but you didn't feel that you had to whisper or that the staff were hanging around. They all had things to do to keep them busy. The drinks and soup arrived with a basket of bread, soup was lovely and warm. We tried some cold starters, there's a good selection of fish and meat starters, all perfectly sized. The man serving the carvery was very happy and chatting to everyone without making you feel uncomfortable. The veg was really fresh and there was lots of it. I had turkey and it was very succulent, my partner and daughter both had beef and it was pinkish so perfect for them. The tables were cleared without you really noticing but the waiter checked everybody was happy during the meal without being in your face. Again there was a great selection of desserts all the right size. My partner also had fresh waffles made by the carvery man. He said they were lovely, there is a good selection of toppings too. I think going early was a good thing as I'm not a fan of buffets style due to people chatting over the food and touching things but as we were one of the first there I was fine with it. We probably ate more than we would for a Sunday lunch but we were really full, in fact, my daughter and partner had a snack at tea time and I didn't eat again - this never happens!! For us all to have the all you can eat carvery plus 4 drinks was £50. Not the cheapest at £12.95 but everything is included, up the road we would have paid £8 just for the carvery so it's good value really. We will go again but definitely the 1pm sitting.

I just paid £27.50 for the 300g Sirloin steak. I expected the best quality of the steak for this price. I ordered medium cooked steak and received overdone steak that was chewy and hardly eatable. I then ordered pineapple Sunday that consisted of small amount of pineapple jelly, 4 pieces of some kind of pineapple topped with large amount of squirted synthetic cream. Very poor quality of food that is hugely overpriced. Do not waste your money.

The food may be the same menu as other village hotels but it has been cooked to a decent standard and well presented. The staff cannot do enough for you, the slightest problem they will sort it out. The setting is great when you have finished there is a bar in the hotel and there is normally something else going on judging by the amount of hen parties which were wandering about in the hotel. This restaurant has a secluded feel to it, so leave the wife at home and take the girlfriend out somewhere special.

The veg, mash yorkshires were all pretty disgusting. Come on this is one of the easiest meals to cook, how can you get it so wrong !! We were a party of 6 and we all said never ever again. Went for the Sunday carvery, the place was empty!! Think that was due to the new pub just opened next door (which also does a carvery).Service was excellent plenty of staff on duty, very friendly and efficient. The starter of soup is served at your table, from which looked like a flask! Very bland, bread selection however was great. You can then help yourself to a cold table of starters, fish meats etc ok not great. The carvery itself, the beef was extremely chewy, the gammon & turkey ok but not very flavoursome. The veg was ok the carrots were shredded which was odd!!You can then choose from a very small selection of deserts or have apple pie & custard served to you at the table. Not bad value for money but not as good as it used to be!! There is now plenty of restaurants to choose from at ashton moss so will probably try one of those next time !!!!

Visited Saturday night with my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday. Following a quick drink in the bar we walked through the hotel lobby to the restaurant to be greeted by a hen party complete with inflatable penii.Quickly shown to the table in the almost empty restaurant and the waitress quickly came over to take our drinks order and leave menu's. Now here is one of the only truly positive thing I can say about the place, the waitress Joanne was very pleasant and attentive, great service offered by her.The table however next to the window was in smokers corner so throughout the meal there was a congregation of between 5-10 people looking at us. The starter was good I had Thai chicken spring rolls so you can't really go wrong. For the main course we both had sirloin steak, it was cooked as we requested but it was very fatty and the peppercorn sauce tasted of nothing, my partner had champagne sauce and reported the same about that. The steaks come with a tiny amount of fries, and button mushroom. We opted for desert because we were still hungry after the main course and I had apple pie and cold custard, it didn't matter that it was cold though because there was so little of it.To be honest there are 2 pubs next door and both of them could've delivered a more satisfying meal for half the price. I won't be visiting again.

HOWEVER, on the night of our wedding renewal in May 2014 the food was excellent, hot, cooked perfectly & with time to breath & chat in between, because of that we give it excellent and will go back again.

Visited on the offchance they had a table for 2 for Sunday lunch - they did, their last one, so book in advance!Didn't know until we were in that they only do the carvery on a Sunday, but that was okay by us. Turned out to be a good choice! Extensive salad bar with meat, prawns, pasta on top f your usual salad items or soup to start, choice of three meats (it was beef, gammon or turkey on our visit) plus a wide choice of veg and both mashed and roasted potatoes. If I had one criticism, the veg was a bit overdone for my liking, but that's my personal taste and I know they have to cater for everyone. There was also a pasta station for non-meat eaters or the little ones.Desert - now I don't normally bother with pud, but the profiteroles did it for me, and they were excellent. Other choices available including fresh fruit and also a waffle station.Oh, and cheese and biscuits if you could fit it in...Very good value to start with at just £10.95 for adults, think children were £5.95, but as the husband is a gym member at the hotel, we got 20% off. So, with a drink each, came to around £22. A bargain, especially as the food was so good. WE will definitely be back - but will make sure we book next time!!

I have never dined at Verve Grill and me and my boyfriend were very excited to spend out Sunday meal at the restaurant which seemed really nice at a first glance. What awaited us was one of the most regrettable experiences we ever had. We were quite happy to find out about the buffet at the restaurant. But as soon as we sat down, much to my disappointment the plates weren't very clean. The next surprise awaited me when I went to get my starter. There was a large choice of food, that from the distance looked promising...Sadly most of the food was dried out (salads), there were only bits of cheese and crackers left. My boyfriend was in a mood for a soup so he got a portion. Needles to say the best bit about the soup was the fresh bread..My meal wasn't amusing too, I liked the blue cheese but I only had little bits of it to try. Well. We decided to let that one go and forget about it. Generally we don't like to complain and be angry. The main meal had unfortunately left us with half empty plates (again bit dirty) to start with. There was meat (rather ends of it which at Toby Carvery are usually discarded) and - A) Only tiny bits of gravy left in the containers B) Dried out potato mash C) Dried out everything else D) One dried out sausage left and one half eaten one to choose from I still can't believe it but we attempted to eat it. We tried. I was quite desperate to get SOMETHING nice out of this trip and decided to rush to the buffet again to get a piece of cake. We were greeted with no plates and a very little choice (rest was eaten out)...After I asked a waiter if there are any dessert plates he kindly brought a stack of them and I couldn't help but check on the plates again.. Unsurprisingly they weren't clean. But much to my total disgustment one of them still had a chocolate sauce on it.Well. In under an hour we were out of the place. Paid the FULL price. Needles to say we weren't asked if we enjoyed our meal. And yes, it would be a lot to ask for considering the experience we had.

We have used the Village hotel on several occasions and have eaten in the Verve during most of our stays. Although the food is usually excellent it always seems to be let down by something. Poor service usually. This time we had the set menu, £29 for 2 x 3 course meals. It had a good choice of all courses. Decent size serving and presented very well. Pleasant staff. But, once again something let it down. The salad that came out with my wife's salmon looks like it was about a week old. Mentioned it several times but only got a half hearted 'sorry'. My recommendation is that if you stay at the Village eat out.

we use the village gym facilities and have eaten in the bar a few times and decided to give the verve a try - bit disappointing to be honest, the interior is quite smart and trendy and the presentation and selection of food is not bad, but the service and actual quality of the food was a bit disappointing, we've been back since to give it another try but probably won't bother going again - i assume it is more appropriate for the busy business trade at the hotel...

We approached our evening at 'The Verve' with a positive frame of mind; Last time we dined at ‘The Verve’ we had been blown away. Our meals had actually surpassed the quality of the meals we’d had the night prior at San Carlo’s in the city and the service was top notch. There were various menu offers – if I recall correctly we had a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine for £59.99 and paid a nominal supplement to upgrade one of the mains to the fillet steak.Sadly no two experiences are the same and this absolutely applied in this case – unfortunately for the worse. We were left waiting for a member of staff at the restaurant for the first few minutes. When we were finally acknowledged, it was a very clinical conversation – there was no warm reception, it was a simple case of we have no tables available (despite there clearly being an abundance of tables available) and we were told (not asked) to go to the bar across the lobby for 5-10 minutes. We obliged. When we returned to the restaurant fifteen minutes later, we were led by the assistant manager (Matthew off the top of my head) to what I can only describe as ‘the naughty corner’. We were sat out of the way, the table rocked back and forth (fortunately the wife cured the table rock by wedging napkins under the base). We were presented with our ‘exclusive menu’ as part of our free 3 course meal deal for booking the hotel - the tragedy is that this is a much condensed version of the original, which is also a condensed version of last year’s menu. No mention of there being a massive deviation from the original menu was made when we were sold the accommodation with the added perk of a free meal. Obviously we were not expecting chateaubriand as our free meal, but what we were offered in terms of choice was not in any way made clear to us at the point of booking. We spoke again with the assistant manager on duty that night, we asked if we could pay to upgrade. We were told that ultimately the free meal voucher entitled us to a £14.50 credit each. Unfortunately that does not equate to the price of a three course meal if ordering from the ACTUAL menu. Nonetheless we accepted the credit as opposed to the very limited three courses. Ordered a bottle of red wine which came in just shy of £17.00. Was angered when the assistant manager literally walked past and dumped an open wine bottle on our table. The wine was not opened in front of us, we were not invited to taste, nor was a glass poured for us, despite having waited ten minutes with empty glasses for it to materialise. Ultimately the bottle is a cheap bottle of wine, I don’t mind paying £17.00 for that, but the way it was served to us was frankly disgusting.Starters were good, one main course was OK – the burger I ordered was like coal, it had been very overcooked. We decided to avoid the desert menu as we had put up with more than our share and just wanted to forget our experience and get to bed. When the assistant manager came to take away our plates, I asked for the bill.We then sat waiting patiently for 30 minutes for the bill to arrive. I even contemplated writing a note on the napkin saying ‘got sick and tired of waiting’ and leaving the restaurant. Eventually we caught the assistant manager’s eye again and he very aloofly asked ‘just the bill was it’?When a young girl delivered our bill, I noticed that we hadn’t been discounted the £29.00 - I asked her if she wouldn’t mind grabbing the manager for me – our waiter (who it transpired was the assistant manager) came over. He sat down I had a chat with him about the service, which was very embarrassing for all parties as I am sure manager’s are used to receiving complaints about their subordinates, not themselves. He accepted that he was at fault for the shabby service we received, apologised and as a gesture of goodwill made our wine complimentary. I was content with this.Somehow following this, a £9.10 charge was mysteriously added to our room for wine we consumed here - very disappointing.

If you read my review of the hotel itself (restaurant is part of Village Hotel) the restaurant is about the only good thing of the hotel. The chef knows how to prepare what is on the menu. I was never ever disappointed. The cooking is always top on. Serving staff could be a little bit friendlier. Most of them are students, not really trained. But what the heck, food is great

We've dined in The Verve restaurant a number of times having stayed at The Village Hotel twice within the last 2 months. On our previous visit, the kitchen did have a few problems getting meals out in a timely fashion. This was dealt with most effectively by the restaurant manager and this resulted in us returning again on another trip. The restaurant can be very busy at peak times and booking is definately recommended. The menu choice is fine for the price range and its a good idea to take advantage of some of the special offers available. On our most recent visit i can honestly say that the food and the service was perfect. My partner and i travel a lot and eat in many restaurants and i cannot compliment the management team enough at The Verve. Many thanks and a special mention to the restaurant manager, Marie, for her excellent attention to detail and first class customer service skills. We look forward to dining with you again shortly.

We visited Mottram Wood pub next door to the Premier Inn for late dinner (7pm). It was a perfect end to For The Love Horror convention. The service was quick. The food was fabulous, tasted a lot nicer than it looked. Staff very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be returning for next year

We organised and attended a school reunion at the Dane Bank after leaving Wright Robinson High School 42 years ago! As there was meant to be a live band on in the main bar we worried we would not be able to hear each other speak and the weather was not warm enough to be in the beer garden, so we asked if we could use the vault and this was agreed. The vault was quite tired looking but the bar staff were friendly and drinks were good. Not only that but we had the room to ourselves all night. Great night and loads of fun. Thanks for the use of the vault!

I know airports are meant to be a miserable experience but this place is next level - nary a smile or ounce of charm from any member of staff. The discussion about why my second round cost more than the first (despite being identical) captured the existential angst of this broken nation.
