Having only really heard of vegan junk food in a YouTube video once before I went in speculating but left inspired. The menu offered a few dishes that sounded so bomb it was hard to make a final choice. In the end I decided on the burger and was not disappointed. I usually do not write reviews but I feel compelled to for this dinner experience. The food was the blandest, most unoriginal food I've had. Burger patties and "chicken" were obviously Fry's brand. We were missing part of our food and only realised once someone next to us ordered the same thing. Not to mention, the food is horrendously overpriced for what you get.

I was really disappointed with this place. The staff were friendly but that's the only positive thing I can say. The food was terrible. Flavourless tofish and lukewarm chips. The hot dog roll had been microwaved so long it was inedible. It was really overpriced for what we got. Also, as a place that advertises as "100% vegan" the mustard on the tables has honey in it, which makes me doubt the rest of the food as well. Will never go back here.

I really do like the food here but it lets itself down! The first few times I visited the services was excellent, but recently it's been terrible - slow and just generally bad. Last night I was there and ordered the tofish burger - when it came they'd forgotten the onion rings and the mushy peas. I went to the counter and told them. I was half way through my meal when they finally arrived. A guy then came in off the street, walked up to our table while we were eating and asked us for food! When we said no, sorry, he started getting rude to us and then went on to the next table. The staff did NOTHING. Didn't even ask him to leave. Even when he came back a second time!! We've also ordered tackaway from Vegbar three times and every time they've forgotten onion rings or some sort of side from at least one of the meals. It's also all been stone cold every time - we've had to heat everything up ourselves (I only live 5 mins away!). We decided that we'd only ever eat food in the restaurant after our last takeaway was so bad, but after last night's experience, I'm reluctant to go back at all, which is a real shame because my opinion of Vegbar used to be so high and I still think the food tastes lovely.

So This is the first time I have visited Veg bar and it will be the last... As a non vegan, I came here to celebrate my cousins birthday and thought id give Vegan food ago. I orderd the Vegetable coconut curry, which to my suprise I saw it come out of a plastic container and put in the microwave to warm up...it was very bland...and gave me a stomachache afterwoulds. My mums onion rings were stone cold, and my cousin found a hair in her chips!!! Yes a big long strand of hair!!! Not only was we upset about this... the service was terrible, the guy behind the Till, was very slow, He was in another world and could not get the orders correct... the communication in that place between staff members was not good at all. Service is very very slow...this could be due to them only having One chef, and One waiter working, the other staff members were nowhere to be seen. Its fair to say I will not be returning to Vegbar, and if it does not sort it self out anytime soon, it will be shutdown!!! We waited 50 minutes for our main food which included a coconut curry, when the food arrived it was only luke warm and seemed very watered down - did not taste in the slightest bit of coconut. As we got to the end of our meal, I asked that our dessert be brought over as we were in a rush and had a bus to catch. 10 mins later, no sign of dessert - they had not defrosted it in the 1hour 20mins we were there. A (previously absent) manager apologised for our obvious displeasure and gave us our semi-frozen dessert to take away. I missed my coach and waited 2 1/2 hours for the next. Thank you.

I wanted to like this place, I really did. My friend and I bought Groupon vouchers and were really excited to try the place out as the menu looked great. Unfortunately, the food was not amazing. It's the kind of food you shrug at and say "well it could be worse" and eat it anyway because it's average. Not good, not terrible, but just okay. I ordered the seitan wings as a main with a side of Mac n Cheese but they presented me with a side of seitan wings and I had to ask for chips (which were over salted). The Mac n cheese was bland and forgettable and I commented that Amy's frozen Mac n Cheese was a far cry better. My friend was presented with the Groupon version of the Big Mac which was a much smaller burger. He'd been looking forward to try it for a long time but was underwhelmed. The "cocktail" wasn't nice at all. I went there once and won't go again. Every time I'm asked about it, I tell people to save their money and go elsewhere.

I visited this restaurant with a friend - I am vegetarian and she is vegan so it seemed to tick all the boxes for a great meal. Unfortunately it fell way short of this. We ordered and paid for the 2 course 'meal deal'. There are only 3 desserts on the menu and they had already sold out of the one I wanted which was the cupcake. My friend's main course arrived and mine, the chilli, arrived after she had nearly finished her meal as they 'forgot to cook it' - we were offered a round of drinks to compensate. The toilets were not as clean as they might be and I had to ask twice for the ladies' to be restocked with toilet paper - surely this is basic for a restaurant?Bearing in mind we had already ordered and paid for dessert we were rather dismayed when our waiter told us they had run out of the oreo cake - surely they should 'reserve' their last pieces for those diners who had already paid for their order? We ended up getting a refund for both desserts and went elsewhere for some fabulous cupcakes. Overall what should have been a great dining experience was sadly disappointing.

The owner/manager however is not. It came across to me this is just a business venture and not a passion, no smiles out of him. He was disinterested and somewhat rude. This is important to me for a start up restaurant, customers should be everything.Could be cleaner - tables were dirty from previous guests. And the ketchup was watered down significantly it barely resembled red. Awful cost cutting in an eatery. As a BIG tomato sauce fan this is a thumbs down for me. The Veg Bar Brixton is a huge disappointment, poor quality food and service. The actual café resembles a kebab shop, it is very run down and poorly cared for. The ladies toilet was disgusting and there was no soap. The place was empty, even though it was Sunday lunchtime, but this didn’t improve the speed or quality of service. None of the menu is particularly complex, but it still took an hour for our table of 6 to get most of the food we had ordered. The chef only seemed capable of making one thing at a time, so despite 3 of us ordering the burger, there was a 15 minute gap between each one being served. Same with the (dry) mac and cheese, two people ordered this yet it there was a 10 minute gap between the dishes being served?! The food we actually were served was really disappointing. Small portions and high prices, even though it was clear the ingredients were really cheap. Oven chips and plain white buns with a generic patty was the burger. It was poor quality and a complete rip off.One of our table ordered a burrito, which the waitress forgot, this resulted in another half hour wait for the correct order. We also ordered two side dishes which never arrived. When we asked about them we were told the chef had made them but the waitress thought we already had them, so they threw them away. It should be noted that the kitchen area is in the middle of the café, so had the waitress walked two feet she could have asked to double check. There was no apology, we asked for a refund which they grudgingly gave. The entire café, menu and staff came across as lazy and unfortunately fulfilled every negative stereotype there is about vegan cafes and vegan food. I was really excited to go to a purely vegan café, but in reality I would have had a better meal and better value for money just asking for the vegan option at any local pub.

The food is great, and satisfies all of the greasy / meaty / cheesy cravings. FGV Burger is the one - I never liked Big Mac's before I was vegan, but this is just banging. The to-fish is so good as well - I didn't expect it to taste so much like the real deal. I would prefer the food to be served on a bigger plate - as when using cutlery on the FGV (which I know makes me a loser) it is difficult on the small plates. That is my only criticism, otherwise great venue, good atmosphere, friendly staff and best fake meat vegan burger I've had in years.

I went here last Tuesday with my friend after work and we ordered everything! We shared two starters, the Mac and Cheese and the Fish Sticks. Both were so yummy especially the fish sticks it was flaky tofu wrapped in nori and then fried. For our mains we tried the Vegan Wings and Jack Fruit Sandwich. I definitely recommend them both.We managed to find space for the Oreo cake which is amazing and also enjoyed some of the vegan, organic wine. Veg Bar is a really great change from your regular super healthy vegan place if your craving comfort food. Also the waitress with the blue hair and the cook were really helpful and friendly. This is our new favourite spot!

See I really want to give a positive review but the portion sizes were ridiculous! For the amount you pay they don't even fill up the tray of chips, and the salad was nowhere to be seen. The quality of food is great but it's completely inaccessible to the surrounding community because of the high prices and small portions. I can justify paying a tenner for a main if it's a decent size. Unfortunately I won't be coming back here and I encourage others not to waste your money.

I brought my mum here as we are both veggies, and had seen a deal for here on groupon. We were the first people in the restaurant, yet people who arrived later were served first. I believe maybe they just forgot to put in our order, but when chasing this up with the waitress she just got defensive about it. Eventually we got our food! We had the frittata for a starter which was yummy and made from tofu so vegan friendly, the portion size could of been bigger though. For the mains we had the seitan wings which were delicious and a burger which was quite standard. We also ordered cocktails as they had a 241 offer on, both cocktails were lacking in alcohol content, and my mother even mentioned this to the waiter.I think it could be wholly improved by offering larger portions therefore giving better value for money and maybe adding some more innovative and healthy menu items. And service needs to be greatly improved, they definitely don't believe that the customer is always right!

It's strange because with the prices they charge you would think they would at least offer a home made vegan burger party? But no, we have two frozen patties that have been slapped up and cooked and chucked into a supermarket bun. Oh and then charged £12 for it. That's not all - £11.50 for five tiny seitan wings and a few chips? Wow. Now normally I wouldn't look twice at these sort of prices IF THE FOOD REFLECTED THE PRICE. Even the presentation was nothing more than food dumped onto a plate. The cheesecake took ages to come and then wasn't set at all, it was a big mess. The decor is...strange. Posters put up with masking tape? It wouldn't take much to make this place look much better while still maintaining that hipster dive bar vibe that they're obviously going for. Instead they have totally missed the mark, and it just looks like a dingy student flat. Veg Bar - you need to give your menu an overhaul and serve bigger portions for a start, and a couple licks of paint on the wall wouldn't hurt either. It's fantastic that your whole menu is Vegan! But what's the point when every other aspect of the dining experience falls short of even average (and that's being nice!). I don't normally write reviews this bad but I hope Veg Bar reads it and sorts it out ASAP. I won't be coming back until then. And I don't reccommend anybody to come here either. Diaspointing isn't the word..

I've been here a lot; for takeaway, with my partner, with friends and family. I am always so impressed with the menu choices (I've seen it expand from when it opened) and with the friendly staff. The atmosphere is lovely, there is great music and drinks from the bar are all also vegan which is a real plus. It's so great to go to a vegan restaurant where you can get real feel good food (curry, 'fish' and chips, burgers) instead of just salad and falafel like everywhere else. There can sometimes be a wait for food, but considering how there isn't a lot of staff, and they are doing staff training, it is to be expected and they always apologise if there is any delay. Overall I just love this place and keep going back!

Huge disappointment! I was expecting nice and creative vegan food, instead of that I got a fast food junk. FGV burger is nothing else than cheap, highly processed paties in a white cheap, processed bun, a bit of lettuce and pickle and a sad, thin slice of cheese, with some fries. All that for whopping £11.50!!!! Seriously, what a rip off! You could get better quality in a cheap cafe for a fiver. Even better, go to waitrose and buy vegan paties (which are delicious) and you'll pay £2.50Soya bean wings, similar quality, small seven pieces on a bed of lettuce and fries (too spicy for my gf) , again £11.50!Thanks to places like this, meat eaters will never go vegan!

We went here for lunch as my daughter is a vegan and the on line menu looked ok.The table we were given, in the corner of the pool room was broken. It was circular, the longer we were there the wider it separated down the middle! The menu wasn't as good as was seen online. My son opted for the veggie burger but there wasn't anything I or my daughter wanted so we opted for dessert instead. These were very small and pricey, as was the burger. It took ages to arrive. I ordered a green tea and got peppermint. (yuk!) If you're looking for a vegan version of a greasy spoon then this is you you..

It is wrapped in nori and battered which makes it really flavoursome - it feels like a lot of thought and planning has gone into emulating cruelty free versions of some of my favourite dishes! The portions are generous, the service was good and the staff are polite. In addition to this there is a whole wall dedicated to Morrissey and a pool table for some fun after dinner activity! I've been here twice now, but this review is for last night (new chefs/management since my first visit). I am a meat eater and I enjoyed everything I ate! A friend and I shared the Mac and cheese and the tofish and chips. The chips and greens were lovely, the 'fish' was lovely and weirdly very similar in texture to actual fish, the Mac and cheese was slightly bland, needed more seasoning. The Oreo cake was rich but lovely. My other friends had the burger (I loved that it looked like a Big Mac I thought it was funny), they also had the nugs which I didn't try but they looked great. Will definitely go back with my vegan friends! It's a cool space and they seem to have bands downstairs, which is nice.

For a non-vegan I have a slightly unreasonable soft spot for this place, but I think it is great. The staff friendly and up for supporting local causes. The space has all the hall marks of an old school hang out - pool table, dark punk basement, posters ripped out of Kerrang and an impressive list of events. It reminds me a bit of queer spaces like First Out and the Oak Bar to be honest, given that it isn't an explicitly queer space this probably says a lot about how welcoming and relaxed Veg Bar is. They make great breakfasts, great desserts and I was extremely impressed by the vegan fish and chips. It is also nice to know that all my vegan buds can drink everything at the bar.Full disclosure, I've worked with Veg Bar - they let me use the basement to run a benefit night for the Lesbian Immigration Support Group - and am about to hold another benefit there for Movement for Justice. These guys are are the real deal - vegan punk community sweethearts. Even if they do insist on having that horrifying poster of Morrissey holding a baby up.

I ordered a delivery from Deliveroo. On the whole, the food was delicious and full of flavour! We had fish & chips, butternut squash curry & seitan wings (nuggets) and fries. The curry was good. The nuggets were great. Fries were a little soggy but tasty. Fish was delicious! The only reason I didn't give you 5 stars is because of the portion size - I had 3 mouthfuls of mushy peas with my fish, there wasn't much rice with the curry and there wasn't really enough chips. We were all still a little hungry afterwards. I would be happy to pay £40 again as I can see you obviously only use the very best meat free produce which is expensive...But skimping on the cheaper ingredients is a bit of a let down... Give us more chips, rice and peas please!

I live very close to this, and so was hoping to find a new Tulse Hill gem; I was sadly disappointed. Starting with the service, the Manager was nice and friendly (even telling us about all the other Vegan Bars we could try in London!) but our other waiter was very poor. He kept leaning over me to grab things off the table, and never brought me my change after the meal! As for the food, as it is Vegetarian/Vegan I was expecting, well... vegetables. Instead I got a dodgey look Big Mac burger that looked like the ones you get at 4am at the back of Roosters Spot. Then a whole bunch of soggy sightly warm fries. the lettuce in the burger had seen better days, and the gherkin was suspiciously floppy. We had dessert (me a Hot Chocolate Cake) which sounded lovely, and was at first, but the actual cake was very over cooked (It seemed like one of those microwave cakes you see on Buzzfeed) and actually hard at the bottom. The overall cost of the meal came to £18 each (£20 for me as he decided to take my change as a automatic tip!) for a burger, some fries and cake in a espresso cup. Not good value at all!Its sad because I was really rooting for this restaurant, but it really has a long way to go before I recommend this to anyone or attempt to go again. It needs to look at it's menu and think harder about what/ if anything is its USP- because at the moment, what I took from the restaurant is a dodgey burger and poor service :(

We had a private bar down there, which was staffed for most of the night, and were able to play our own music as loud as we wanted!! Only downside was that the place was pretty cold, and this had a knock on effect on the food, which had cooled drastically by the time people started eating! It was a particularly cold night though. Super friendly service, and super tasty food! Our crowd also included quite a few meat eaters, but the menu and food seemed to please everyone! A good place to experiment with some veggie food, even for carnivores!! And the cocktails were poured very generously!! I would recommend to anyone!!

Not as advertised on their website. It was Saturday evening but not crazy busy and we had to wait more than an hour for food. Two dishes from our order were missing. So two of my friends had to wait another 20 min for their meals. They were offered drinks as an apology which was nice but I guess it is not a big deal to prepare correctly food for 7 people not 27 so that they can eat together at the same time. Anyway food was poor. Nothing that I was expected (lots of fresh, home-made, tasty, healthy food). Instead everything was deep fried and luke warm. Very very disappointing! Never go back!

First we waited 45 minutes for our food then what arrived was just gross.I ordered the coconut and sweet potato curry which was missing sweet potato. My large portion of rice was cold, I told the waitress then waited 5 minutes for a tiny bowl of hot rice. My girlfriend ordered Mac n cheese (which oddly came with chips). It tasted like watery, cheese liquid on cheap pasta. The side order of nugs were actually quite nice and I would recommend that except for the fact I would never suggest anyone go to this place for food. Had come from North London on a recommendation. Easy enough to find from Brixton tube. The place itself is horrible: ice cold (scarf on the entire time - I've no idea if they even have heating), a table that half collapsed with every movement and the whole thing just kind of lacking and vaguely disgusting looking. Vegans aren't lentil-shovelling, penitent beings anymore - we deserve better and are getting it from many places other than here. However, the staff were really nice. I think it was the manager who mostly served us, who was running around as it got very busy very suddenly. The food was all kinds of bland. My boyfriend had the burger which, I'm not even joking, is the Vegetarians Choice 6-for-99p frozen ones. That's the kind of garbage we eat at home if we're skint and lazy. Not something you pay £10 for.I had the 'wings' which were OK but really chewy. I was really hungry as I'd been looking forward to going here so ate it all. The dessert was good - ice cream rolled in something I can't remember. That, sadly, was the highlight. The bill was close to £40 for both of us (two £10 mains [a January 'deal!'], two bottled beers [draught not working], one dessert) which, had it been worth travelling for, I would have been happy paying. I don't think it's all bad, but I do think there's a lot of room for improvement. The staff were all friendly (and said hi and bye) and the manager seems to know what's up, I just hope they get it together because people deserve better than what they're offering at the moment.

I went here today and I really really REALLY wanted to enjoy it, however It was a challenge....-First impressions was that the place was closed, however it was open. Staff were very friendly but the place is not very appealing. I'm not a decor snob , and this place has clearly gone with the current trend of taking over an old place and not changing a decor but it didn't work. It was also cold and felt unclean.-Menu was not as advertised on their website. There was a January "sale" on where all main courses were £10, when I asked the waiter was how much they normally were she stated between 8 and 11 pound (maybe this doesn't include sides but still not a great deal)-I ordered Mac and Cheese with fries and greens , my two friends got the burgers. I watched as the staff got the people before me orders wrong and gave my order to another table and then brought it to me ( not great to see!) and then we waited another 5 minutes for the burgers.-Food looked semi appealing. I was expecting from the research I had done for it to be tasty comfort vegan food. It lived up to being vegan , I hope but other than that it was not impressive. My Mac was dry, and didn't come with pesto, when I asked for it they gave me some but also mention they had taken that off the menu (just not the ones they had given me). The fries were nice, but just fries. The vege burgers looked like Big Macs (debatable if that's a good thing or not) they tasted ok, but the parties tasted like regular frozen ones and the presentation was grim.I want to point out I am used to vegan food, and away that Mac cheese without real cheese OBVS won't taste the same.To sum the food up its kind of like bad student food, the kind you expect to get if WEtherspoons were to do vegan options!- The staff were lovely , and I feel bad that I didn't enjoy this place, but we made such an effort to travel there and it just didn't live up to any standard. Service was slow and our waitress wasn't switched on. Sorry! Would make a point of NEVER going back.

I came here for a New Year's Eve party and walked past the place 3 times before realising it was the correct place! Inside the team take orders and cook in front of you. The list of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks is extensive but the food is quite expensive for what it is. I had a bizarrely-named Fat Gay Vegan burger, which I'm afraid I can't recommend, especially at 8 pounds sterling! It is edible but pretty tasteless and no sides are given - exactly like a meat hamburger from the local competitors apparently but I expect much more from vegan restaurants in London. I will visit again to try the other foods, which will hopefully impress me more as this place is good for other reasons. There is a dance floor downstairs, which has a fair amount of space. The toilets range from fairly disgusting to barely sufficient; it is exactly like a student disco! There is nowhere to put coats etc, except on the back of chairs. The saving grace is that there is a feeling of fun around the place and you get the feeling that the staff are restraining themselves from dancing on the tables!I would recommend it as a nightclub. The dance floor downstairs is of a good size and cosy and the vegan alcohol is plentiful and not too overpriced. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time but it does not seem to be a good restaurant.

My wife and daughter are vegetarian and we decided visit the Veg Bar in Tulse Hill.First impressions are that it looks like a cafe, a bit dull and plain. We were shown to our table and given the menus. My daughter had a Groupon voucher and when the waiter saw the voucher the menus where taken away and replaced by the Groupon menu. A much smaller selection and we were told that the portions were smaller. We ordered two soups and a Vietnamese salad as starters which took almost an hour to arrive. We were told the soups were pea and leak but where actually a very bland potatoe soup and the salad did not have a hint of Vietnam. It was just a small salad with some oil. My wife and daughter had the Mac and Cheese which the menu said was, " homemade creamy macaroni with fakin bacon, fresh pesto and seasoned Japanese breadcrumbs".Both were very disappointed with the small portion of macaroni and very little cheese, there was no fresh pesto and very few breadcrumbs. With the main menu it came with Spring greens and Cajun fries, with the Groupon menu it came on its own. My veggie burger was good but it is difficult to get a burger wrong. The whole meal took almost two hours, far far too long to prepare such simple food in an almost empty restaurant. We had ordered a take away for somebody who couldn't make it and the final straw was that when we went to leave they had forgotten about the take away and we had to wait for another ten minutes. You would have thought that if a restaurant specialised in vegan food they would have made more if an effort to produce good vegan food with decent service. Some of the rap msic that was played was not suitable for children and given we were there at 6pm was a bit surprising. Finally, the Ladies toilets were filthy and absolutely disgusting. A very disappointing evening.
