Ve Raj in Gedling

Food was ok but pricing was far too high for what was on offer. Went as part of a large group booking of approx 25 people and all commented that it was poor value for money and would not return.

We have been coming to Ve Raj since it first opened. I wouldn’t say we were regulars but whenever we do go the food and service are always great, we always receive a warm welcome from the friendly staff. I would definitely recommend this lovely restaurant.

Have always loved this place. First visit in a few years tonight for a quick takeaway, but recommend booking and eating in for the ambience and service. Food as delicious, and staff as lovely, as I remember. A real gem. Look forward to visiting again soon.

Excellent food and great service. The menu is diverse and has plenty of chefs specials which are something different than the usual ‘Indian’ food.

First visit to the restaurant, though we have had some takeaways. Only moved to the village recently, but we will be back. The service and food were excellent. The staff are very friendly and nothing is to much trouble. Thanks for an enjoyable experience.

Had a really lovely meal at VeRaj. Food and drinks came out quickly which was great, until we realized they wanted the table back . As I was tucking into my 3rd pint, the bill and card machine got brought out which I thought was quite strange, but I paid it and tried to ignore the fact it was quite odd, as I hadn't even finished my pint the bill. The waitress then proceeded to come back 10 minutes later and state that they needed us to move on as they need their table back, even though we still had the majority of our drinks left and only been there 1hr 30 mins. This was a rare occasion for me and my wife going out for a meal, so don't know if times have changed recently, but I thought the service at the end was really odd which is such a shame because the food was brilliant. Wouldn't recommend unless you want an early bath

We’ve been going for years always good food but this time we waited over 40 minutes for our order to be taken so we ended up leaving and going to the Banyan Tree as it was Mother’s Day . Upon sending a complaint regarding the service the main man was very rude and I had to phone as they didn’t respond via e mail . Very rude complained to me we hadn’t drunk our drinks ??? After all the years no apology , certainly will not want to return ever again !

Excellent take away once again from Ve Raj, they are our regular go to Friday night takeaway, brilliant service, friendly staff, amazing food, it has kept us going during lockdown, looking forward to visiting you all again!!

Ve Raj is a lovely, local restaurant which we have visited many times. The food is always delicious and cooked perfectly - the flavours and quality of the meals are amazing. We especially recommend the masala balti and the lamb manchurian - our favourites! The staff are helpful and friendly and always make us feel welcome. We have been so pleased that during these difficult covid times, Ve Raj has served takeaway dishes to the same high standard - thank you all and we can't wait to see you in the restaurant again soon.

These guys can’t do enough for you!! Often have vegan food to take away from here and have never been disappointed. They can answer any dietary questions you’ve got and will try and adapt any dish you fancy. Just tried the khazana pettie for the first time - flavour is incredible! Pictured is pilau rice, saag aloo, khazana pettie & veg jalfrezi. Yummmm

Had another beautiful takeaway from Ve Raj tonight, fast easy communication through messenger to order and the food came before the predicted time and we are not that local to the restaurant. Excellent service can’t wait to eat in the restaurant again when we can.

Mike and I decided to have a takeaway, should it be Chinese or Indian, well the Ve-Raj won hands down. I rang the order in and went to have my shower. No sooner had I come out of the bathroom than our meal was being delivered exactly at the time I was told. We had pappadums to start with lime pickle etc and then Mike had lamb Lal Mass and I had Chicken Pasanda accompanied with lemon fried rice and Peshwari Naan. Both mains were full of meat and they were cooked to perfection which is what we usually find when we eat in the restaurant. Can't wait for lock-down to be lifted so we can again visit. Recently moved to Ravenshead and this place has long been on my list to try after recommendations. Had my second takeaway this week, and both meals were lovely. Found a new favourite in their Desi curry, and the service was prompt and friendly on both occasions. Can't wait to eat in the restaurant with friends!

What a shame! Had a takeaway after hearing such good reviews. Starters and nibbles fine, still warm, not hot. Mains - I had a chef’s special, a really nice tasting sauce but the chicken was overcooked to the point of being stringy, almost inedible, possibly due to the time my meal had rested as it was just warm enough to not need microwaving. My wife’s vegetarian option was a glut of tomato curry sauce with a few onions and cauliflower, again the tepid temperature possibly didn’t help.The driver did apologise for being ten minutes late, I’m guessing our meals were ready to serve a good half hour previous.Like I say a shame, but lesson learned.

We went to the Ve Raj on Wednesday for their special Ocean Food night and was not disappointed, I had the scallops for starter, then we both had the sizzling fish mixed grill, it was beautiful, with rice and the bramley apple naan. Social distancing was adhered to and everything was cleaned before the next customers was allowed in. We congratulated the staff on such a nice evening and asked if any of the other food would be put on the main menu in future because it was very difficult to choose what to eat. We was asked if the evening was repeated on a monthly basis would that be alright and we said yes definitely.

We have been regular customers of the Ve Raj for many years and have enjoyed all our meals whether in house or take aways. The team held a special seafood menu for the first time yesterday and although we couldn’t make the restaurant and missed the celebrations and presentation we did enjoy the occasion by take away! We tried the fish desi, pan fried sea bass and mixed fish with jeera, lemon and coconut rice with lemon naan bread! All were delicious and we hope to see them on the regular menu.

Good pub combined with a separate small friendly Indian restaurant. The pub supplies the beer and the restaurant supplies top quality Indian food at reasonable prices. The service is excellent and food delicious. Good choice on menu with signature starters and mains. Good sides as well.

Our normal curry takeaway was closed so we tried this one based on reviews. I order what we would normally have. When I asked how much he said £56.05 and would I like a couple of pappadums? Yes please I replied, thinking that with the money I had just spent it was a ‘freebie’. This curry order would normally cost me around £40. Ok I thought, it must be good. Well it wasn’t. It arrived on time - great. But when I went to pay the guy he couldn’t even provide me with enough change. He was 70p short. Not much I know but that’s not the point, he should have been prepared and brought the correct change for all eventualities. We opened the food and put out the mushroom rice - struggled to find any mushrooms and when we did they were the size of a third of a sliced mushroom. Opened the curries - all dishes were just about half full. About half a breast of chicken in the Korma, very little lamb in the tikka and trying to find a prawn in the King Prawn bhuna was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The bhuna was £10.95 so I basically paid that amount for some sauce as rice isn’t included in the price! The garlic Nan was about the size of a tea plate. We ordered onion bhaji and received three the size of a ping pong ball. We ordered mix kebab and received three small chunks of meat and a ping pong bhaji. The best bit was the saag aloo paneer. I am all for the saying that less is more when it comes to flavour and quality but in the case I feel very aggrieved as the quality did not make up for the lack of quantity. I shall not be revisiting this restaurant again nor recommending it to anyone. Very disappointed.

my fella and I went as a little treat thinking it would just be a standard indian - how wrong we were. there is something for everyone as the menu is varied and rich with some really creative dishes on offer. food tasted and i mean it when i say INCREDIBLE - particularly the seafood dishes. service was fast and friendly - especially one server Maz. you could tell massive efforts were made to protect their customers too. our new favourite indian restaurant for sure.

Visited for about the 8th time. Love it, the relaxed atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. The Desi is about the best curry I have had anywhere.

Friendly service, always excellent food, my favourite curry restaurant in Nottingham.The staff are always welcoming and the service is good. We eat here regularly and sometimes pick up a take away, especially handy during lockdown! Neither of us eat meat and there is plenty of choice.

Tonight was our first night out since lockdown with our friend's, we had no reason to be worried, as all protocol's was met. Only 2 other tables taken so social distancing wasn't a problem. We was out celebrating a friend's 70th birthday and as usual the food was excellent. I had an Indian mixed grill with salad it was so much better than an English mixed grill. Many thanks to Maz and the Team for a night to remember. All four of us will be back very soon now you have reopened.

Just came across this place on google with some really good reviews so thought I’d give it a go and wow we was disappointed The food was absolutely beautiful and this is now my favourite Indian takeaway as I will be using these again 10/10

Missing our trips to the Ve Raj during lock down so we decided to do a Ve Raj night in and treat it exactly as would if we was going out. So we ordered starters and mains, Dupiaza and Pasanda with rice and samosa's which we have had before. When it arrived it was all quite hot and up to the usual high standard. We had a super meal in our isolation. We shall be again very soon. Many thanks Maz and the team. Stay safe.

My wife and I are regulars at the Ve Raj, both for restaurant meals and takeaways; and I wrote a complimentary review of the restaurant a year or so ago. I wanted to write further review to mention their service during the current Covid-19 lock down. When it first started they did a delivery and a collection service, but then in response to the tightening of regulations, they changed to a delivery only service. At the same time they greatly improved their social media and website presence to keep customers informed of the service they offer. In the past month we have had three home deliveries, and each one has been spot on - exactly what we ordered, delivered at the time we requested - piping hot and excellent quality. The restaurant is a credit to the village, and we are grateful for such excellent food and service - well recommended. Long may they continue.

We visited after a friend recommended it. The place looked nice and clean and we were greeted warmly. We had several dishes and they were all fantastic. Slight criticism was the tikka masala was very, very sweet and slightly let them down as all the other meals were outstanding. The pickle tray was lovely as were the smoked poppadoms. Our only down point was when we arrived there were two children running riot in the restaurant from the pub next door. One of them was picking his nose and touching the cutlery etc. Under the circumstances we are in ,we actually thought about leaving. The kids were behind the bar, rolling on the floor and it carried on for quite a while. I apologise to the restaurant but it is a shame you have to suffer this. The food and service was as I said outstanding but it is a shame that you can’t separate from the pub.

We visited for the first time for a nice romantic meal. We did not realise that it was attached to a pub. I appreciate that this cannot be helped however there were two children out of control from the pub who were in and out screaming on the floor, playing in the cloakroom and touching everything. I understand that it is not the fault of the restaurant but we came out to get away from the children and these two were very badly behaved. I overheard another diner mentioning it to the waiter because they were picking their nose then touching the cutlery for the diners! Now the great points. The service was fabulous and the food was outstanding. Reasonable price too. Unfortunately because of the children we will not be returning which is a great shame. I ask the manager to address this because I wonder how many more people are put off by the behaviour of the pub goers next door and to be honest I do not think it is doing your amazing restaurant any favours. Again amazing food but you need to separate from the pub if it is possible.

4 of us visited. The appetizer went down although I didn't have one. Starter was good I had a kebab, everyone enjoyed theirs. Main course also went down well with everyone. Service good and pleasant.Maybe a little on the expensive side in my opinion.I will definitely visit again.

This is a little hidden gem of an Indian restaurant tucked nicely next to the Ranger pub! The food is excellent and nothing is too much trouble.My husband asked for a Jal fraze but madras hot and it was spot on! The staff are very attentive to all customers whether dining with them or using the takeaway facility. I would advise booking as it always seems to be busy no matter which night you visit.

Visited Ve Raj with friends who live in Blidworth, we travelled from Lincolnshire coast to visit so 90 min journey, was well worth it. Atmosphere was great, seated quickly having got drinks from the pub. Service was excellent throughout, friendly staff always chatting and smiling. Food was served piping hot and full of flavour (I only have relatively mild food) tried the Masala Fries and my tongue burned LOL!! The whole experience was very good and great value at £86 for four of us including drinks. Well worth the drive.

Although we have eaten here several times before the food last night was superb and the service was equally as impressive. All the staff were polite and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. A great evening thank you.

After 2 years of searching since moving to the area we finally found the best Indian. Food was amazing everything tasted brilliant, delivery was on time. Driver was pleasant. Not a single bad word to say... except we didn’t have more to eat :)

A modern Indian Restaurant very welcoming with great service. The food is just great. Tried lots of dishes over the years since they opened. Do not get the impression that its an Indian so the food is hot, this is not the case, they will make it to meet your needs. Its always tasty though. With family and friends for many years night and we can highly recommend VeRaj.

Located within a brilliant little village pub Ve Raj provides excellent food on a consistent basis. I’ve eaten in the restaurant many times and had numerous take aways at different times of year and days of the week, the quality and taste of food is consistently good. The menu is large and explained well, my personal favourite being the Lamb Tikka Jalfrezi for its mix of flavour and strength of spice. Highly recommend if you’re in the area or wanting a good, tasty and reliable but of Indian food.

I ordered a takeaway at 6.10pm I was advised to collect in 45 minutes which would be 6.55pm. My daughter arrived at that time and texted me at at 7.30 saying she was still waiting! I rang them and asked what the hold up was? They apologised and said it would be ready in ONE minute! It was after 7.50pm when she got the food! Very unprofessional! I will not be using Ve Raj again! All customers in the restaurant were complaining even those sat in for a meal!

We have been to Ve Raj several times as a couple and with friends. For a sit in meal and many times for a take away. The food is always incredibly nice and the staff are all so friendly, the restaurant has a lovely relaxing atmosphere.

Having stayed locally for a couple of nights we fancied an Indian, this was amazing. Having tried many Indian restaurants we often find the food greasy, this was in a different league. Shame to go home but when we are back we will use again

This is our local village curry venue and it’s decent. A small restaurant but good food and friendly service. I wouldn’t rank this with the top Indians around but the location and convenience makes it worth an additional star hence 4.

Ended my busy day by having a meal at my favourite Indian. Staff are fab Morah, Jay and Moras hope I got the names correct. Also all the others. Can’t fault anything you are so welcoming and the food is great.

The staff are lovely, they'll make recommendations if you're unsure what to have or fancy trying something different. The food is delicious, the portion sizes are generous and the prices are fair.

Lal Naga is the go to dish. One of the chefs specialties. Too much choice really to try them all. Ask the staff to recommend a dish to suit your taste. Staff always polite and courteous. Highly recommended.

Myself and my wife dined here for our 25th wedding anniversary and had an absolutely exquisite meal. The service was impeccable and I tipped our waiter a £50 note because I was so impressed by his work. The food was honestly to die for, the best curry I have ever tasted, and I class myself as a bit of a curry connoisseur. I had a chicken korma and pilau rice, with onion bhajis and my wife had a vegetable masala and with garlic naan and we can both thoroughly recommend our meals. We will be coming back extremely soon.

Visited Ve Raj tonight with family, not the 1st visit and again the service was 1st class!! Special mention for Jay for table service also the two young waiters which were extremely polite! First time visit and I will be back for sure.

Went for an evening meal with friends from work, service was slow although it was quite full, however the meal itself was not what you would expect from restaurant quality. The rice portions were child size (out of a ramekin) and the sauce to the curry was very runny as if it was missing it's onion base similar to that out of a jar and was spiced with that much heat you couldn't taste it. I like hot food but this lacked depth of flavour, disappointed.

we as a family are regulars to the restaurant and have been for a number of years and have always found it spot on with great customer service however we have had our last 2 meals as a delivered takeaway which have been very poor my wife on 2 occasions had king prawn and on both occasions picked them out and threw them away I must admit looking at them they didn't even resemble prawns I cant honestly say I could tell what they were I have asked the question via Facebook twice with no reply which really disappoints me.

I have reviewed the Ve Raj before but have visited many times since my last review and am pleased to say that their standards on all fronts remain first class in my experience.

I have been a regular visitor to the Ve Raj for the last 3 years and the food and the very friendly staff (family run) never fail to make me pleased with my choices. Over the years I have tried many dishes and my long standing favourites are Chicken Tikka Khori, Chicken Tikka Buna, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Lal Mass, Chicken Biriyani. All of these are usually as described (medium is medium :-) ) and the portion size is always just enough. There are other alternative restaurants which we could use but this is our fave and currently have no intention of changing. Long live the Raj!

Try the chef’s speciality dishes rather than your regular madras or butter chicken. Let the staff recommend something different based on your preferences. Trust me you will be pleasantly surprised. I have tried several specialties now which have quickly become favourites.

Went for a pint at the Ranger and to catch the second half of the Six Nations. I could smell the food from next door 'The Ve Raj' and decided to treat myself to a takeaway. I went to the counter and was greated by Maz, very friendly youg man who couldn't do enough for me. After placing my order I asked if he could deliver it to the bar next door at the end of the game, sure enough at 80 minutes my food arrived! I ordered the chicken Dhansak and it was delicious. I will certainly be returning. Thank you and keep up the good work Maz and the team.

Went here last night with the wife for dinner and I thought how were they going to beat last time and they did.

We have visited Ve Raj as a family and with couples and always made to feel so welcome. The food is unique with a modern twist and always comes with real thought and creativity. The Staff are a genuine delight and can't help enough. If you want some thing made with a twist or have a specific taste then they will always do the upmost to accommodate.

Don’t write trip advisor reviews much but I promised I would do this after another great meal the other night.

Visited tonight with three friends, we had booked. Took forever to get menus, same again for order to be taken, asked three times for drinks. Wrong food brought then extremely poor replacement that they insisted was the correct meal; it wasn’t, it was dreadfull. Sent it back and nothing offered as replacement. At the end Manager said sorry but we’re busy, pointed out that they took the bookings. Really poor show all round and food not as good as previously. Very disappointing on every level.

We have ordered two takeaways from the restaurant recently and unfortunately both times have been incredibly poor experiences. The first I waited for 45 minutes past collection time and had no apology or explanation when my order was finally ready. The second was delivery and it did not arrive. I can only assume the phone was off the hook because we tried to call for 5 minutes straight with nothing but an engaged tone (26/01/19). The food is good but my recent experiences have been so poor that I would not recommend nor order from them again.

Best Indian food I’ve tasted. An unusual menu is available and ideal for a quick drink in the pub next door before you sit down or collect your takeaway. Would highly recommend a visit to this little gem.

We come here quite regularly as it's literally just down the road. Can't believe how lucky we are to have such a good quality Indian restaurant within walking distance. I'm never disappointed in the food and there's always a good atmosphere. Staff look after you well and there is a good choice of food - all the usual dishes but lots of signature ones too. You'll need to book at the weekend.

Met some friends here for dinner tonight and I don't know where to start. The service was top class, very friendly, helpful and attentive staff that made us feel very much at home.
