Have been here quite a few times now whilst on drives out. Food has always been tasty, staff are very friendly and is in a lovely setting. The prices are good. My only grumble, and not a massive one, would be the cost of 75 pence to add a bit of onion or tomato to a sandwich/toastie when it's the same price to add sausage/black pudding etc to a breakfast.

We had been up to the Darwen tower in the rain so was a bit wet when we arrived at the café and What a great little cafe it was too (warm and dry) and so friendly. They offered us the table in front of the one way window were the bird feeders were situated which was brill to watch. I had a decaf latte which was very good. I also had some of thier carrot cake that I must say was lovely. My wife had a black coffee and we chatted with the café owner for a while who was very friendly about the different birds that came to feed there. Altogether a pleasant experience.

Have visited this cafe many times over the years. Very disappointed by the communication and service yesterday. Arrived and got in the queue behind 4 men. Young girl came out at 1..40pm and asked if anyone was ordering food . The men said yes as did I. There wasn’t anyone behind me in the queue at the time. The girl came out and said yes it’s ok for food. The sign in the entrance clearly says closing at 3pm on a Saturday and taking orders up till an hour before. Stood inside at 1.50pm and the lady taking orders said very loudly to the men as she took their order “you are the last so you are very lucky.” Decided after waiting in the queue just for a Sausage barmcake and two slices of toast not to bother and just go home and make them myself. Would have been nice to be told the orders up to an hour before was now stretched to an hour and 10 minutes. Interesting that when I left by the door there wasn’t a queue of people waiting for food outside after giving their orders unlike my previous visit 3 weeks ago. Poor business sense when it’s very busy at the moment and they could have taken at least two more food orders. Will give it a miss from now on. Obviously not bothered about my business

After a lovely walk we decided to give Vaughan’s cafe a second chance!!! Only to be very disappointed on walking into the cafe not only we could smell the grease from the kitchen you can find your walk to the counter by following the slugs trails. This cafe really needs a very good clean. Then you are greeted by the most rude person you could meet .... if she cannot be polite to the customers she really needs to change her job.

We went in for a cup of tea after our walk. The lady served us and we sat down at one of the tables. However a few minutes later, before we had time to drink our tea and when the tea was still very hot, she came over and put the window shutters down so it was so dark we couldn’t read the newspaper anymore. The man at the counter then started telling us to leave because they were “shut” and did we “want to take out”the rest of our hot drink. He was neither apologetic nor friendly.

In my opinion, this area has some of the finest walking routes in lancashire, all open for the public to enjoy. after a long trot over the moor land, nothing can be more welcoming than a good cafe. Vaughns is certainly is that, I adore the breakfast, free range eggs, tasty bacon and sausage and beans, a fine pot of tea and toast.the staff are lovely, the food is far better than the price charged and the full plate is a sign that value for money is certainly on the menu here.I have visited on a number of occasions and if there is one negative, then im yet to find it. please understand this is a country cafe and everyone is welcome, two legs or four, it does not advertise as a gastro cafe, it is a honest english oaisis in the beautifull north west, Time to put my boots on, Vaughns country cafe calls yet again.

Called in after a walk today and was looking forward to a drink and something to eat. I asked whether they accepted card payments to be told the card machine wasn’t working, the member of staff in question didn’t even look at me and made no apology. Fortunately my son had some cash on him so we were able to buy a drink. These were delivered to the table by the same member of staff who I think had had her smile surgically removed, no customer service skills whatsoever. Tray was plonked down on the table and when we left we said goodbye and was ignored. Will certainly think twice before returning.

Travelled from Blackpool to do the lovely walk around the woods and the reservoir. Checked on line to see if the cafe was open. It said everyday from Jan-Dec. With this in mind we did a 3 hour walk and was looking forward to a well earned lunch. Went in to order at 1.05 pm and was told she had shut everything off. But clearly I could see she was still cooking on my left. "What No hot food at all? NO was the reply. Disappointed I ordered two drinks only to be given a dirty stained cup. I asked for a clean cup and the waitress started to pick debris out of the 2nd new cup with her nails Yuk! To add insult to us the cook then served two bacon barns to the table behind us. I was flabbergasted. We left hungry and upset...we will not return due to the shocking treatment and the unclean crockery and grubby table.

We commenced our walk to Jubilee Tower by visiting this cafe and Information Centre. We were very disappointed to find that the information which we were depending upon was very scant. As we had never walked to the Jubilee Tower before and were unsure of the route, we had hoped that leaflets detailing various pathways would be available, similar to those in National Trust Information Centres, but this was not the case. All that was available was a vague map that cost £1:00. The walk itself was very poorly signposted with only one sign on the whole walk! It is obviously a route that's well known to local people but it's not so easy for 'Outsiders'!! The Information Centre needs to live up to it's name and provide information!

Absolutely terrible , booked 3 days in advance for lunch needed have bothered arrived on time no one else in the establishment! To us says a lot going with instinct we should have left , however we gave it the benefit of the doubt..2 minutes later 2 other people arrived . We sat nearby the window to savour the views bear in mind it’s still “winter” and unbelievably so inside as we sat in our overcoats as it was as much freezing inside as it was out ! The waitress came took our orders for drinks very pleasant girl , very efficient but from then on went further downhill after drinks were served she took our food orders my other half ordered the hake dish , myself just the fish & chip offer as no other meal appealed ..one hour later no sign of food ..no apologies for delay etc again we were contemplating asking for the bill for just the drinks ,by this time 3 other patrons had arrived ordered drinks & food which were delivered well before ours ! 1 hour & 5 minutes ours arrived ..the hake was served supposedly on “ crushed roast potatoes “ with buttered beans and creamy tomato sauce ..I wished at this point I had taken a photo all I can describe it it was a bowl of mush , I myself had the most greasy fish & chips I have ever encountered sadly we both left our meals I have to note not once did ant of the catering or bar staff asked if everything was ok , I think in my opinion they were too embarrassed to sum in all in a nut shell will not be returning .

We fancied having a restaurant dinner and decided to stop in here. The staff greeted us as soon we came in. Great service and children friendly. Food was great and hot as it came. Will definitely come here again.

We were on our way home from Preston and trying to think of a good chippy in Blackburn but sadly we realised all the good ones were no longer open. We came across Cherry Tree chippy but wondered if it would be ok as it’s a Chinese take away ( not that we’re averse to a Chinese) . We ordered steak pud ( Hollands) chips, large mushy peas and large gravy. Theirs plenty of chips for 2 in a portion of chips. It was absolutely delicious and hot even though we were several miles from home. Took a menu and we will certainly be back. Staff really pleasant and quick service.
