Vaughans in Shropshire

We had a delicious pork and stuffing bap from here whilst visiting Ludlow with friends. We were served quickly and efficiently by lovely staff. We'll be sure to return.

The pork baguette was stuffed generously. The salad box equally. The queue wasn't too bad. Great choice of fillings. Excellent.

Pork bap was the best we've ever had. Absolutely 😋. Generous filling with bags of flavour. It's making me hungry just writing about it. Staff were lovely and friendly 👍

Warm and moist sausages. A delight to behold. Cheap as chips too. A lovely place for lunch. Best in town for a meaty snack.

Fabulous lunch destination. The only place my daughter wanted to go for a birthday treat. Fabulous pork baps and a huge variety of salads and sandwhich options to take away. We always recommend visitors to town make a pit stop here. Staff are always pleasant and helpful.

I knew Ludlow was expensive, & didn’t want to pay over the odds, so before our visit I looked up a few decent places on TA where we could eat well for less. Whilst looking for a toilet, we’d walked past it a few times & peered in the window to drool over the wonderful display in the window. I’m not sure what I imagined, maybe a small baguette, or something. MrDW had seen them in the pub where we’d just had a drink & had said they were small there. I had the sausage, but they didn’t have enough so the lovely staff loaded me up with bacon too, & at no extra cost. Well, I was just not prepared, for this, MONSTER!!!!! I’d’ve shared, but MrDW said not, although he normally would. He had the roast pork, with crackling, stuffing, & Apple sauce. I had visions of us sharing our food but again, he would not. We sat on benches in a lovely little grassy area to eat our food, whilst listening to man playing bagpipes. I had mine chopped in half, & could only manage the one half. But we shared the other half of it on the train journey home. We got 2 trains to get here, & we’ll be returning, just for another Vaughans.

Small humble venue. You could almost walk past it without noticing it. If you are in the area you simply must visit. The sausage and bacon sandwiches are to die for! All wonderfully local meat and you really can taste the difference. The pork and apple sauce is marvellous too, served with giant shards of crisp crackling. Served by a really lovely man who was cheerful and professional.

Excellent pork sandwiches, well priced, generous filling and very tasty. Don't be put off by a queue, it's definitely worth it.

No wonder there's always a long queue outside this place! Whether you choose the sausage or roast pork baps, you certainly won't be disappointed. And in a town where you pay a premium on just about everything, it's reasonably priced too.

Outstanding quality and value and by some way the best Bacon sandwich l've ever had, top quality produce and plenty of it made for a great start to the day

Beautiful place, great choices on the menu and lovely serving staff. We lined up and joined a short number of people. This gave us time to check the menu and see what others were selecting. We went for a pork bap with stuffing, apple sauce and cracking. All was great. Great portion, great flavours and crackling was amazing. We also had the box deal - stuffing, glazed potatoes, pork and crackling! Great portion and great flavour. We also got a pear drink which was lovely. I like salt so for me it just needed a little more salt - but that’s a personal choice.

Bought a sandwich bap and a baguette...unfortunately don't do turkey, or normal salad...or white sliced bread!! Was charged nearly £12!!! Sorry but I think bit of a rip off!

On our first visit to Ludlow on a grey, rainy and very cold day, my husband, the dog and I were soaked to the skin and feeling a bit sorry for ourselves, when we chanced upon the open doorway of Vaughan’s Sandwich Bar. The aroma from within stopped us in our tracks! A quick peer through the window presented us with a mouth-watering display - a hog-roast with all the trimmings…I’ve never joined a queue so fast! I was met by a friendly lady and gentleman who served up our generously-filled hog roast baps quickly and with a smile and chat about the awful weather! The chap noticed the dog’s bowl swinging from my rucksack and offered me a big sausage for the dog! (It had been a casualty, dropped on the floor earlier, he explained. The dog was only too pleased to take it off his hands!) This was our first of many warm and friendly interactions in Ludlow and we left with such a fantastic impression of the place. We will definitely be back…especially to Vaughans - those baps were so delicious! Thank you for the sandwiches, the dog’s sausage and a great first impression of the warm and generous people of Ludlow.

Saturday would not be complete without a few goodies from one of our favourite places. By far the best of the bunch. Great selection matched by great prices…. and friendly staff.

This place is has now become a weekly must, great choices of mouth watering temptations at great prices. A vegetarian heaven , the options available are excellent. However if you fancy some succulent pulled pork, with crackling, stuffing topped with apple sauce then this is the place .

We have driven past this place numerous times, all the sights within the window draw you in… I’ve now been twice and have not regretted it, a nice box of pork, crackling, stuffing topped with apple sauce /and a fork. We have now also had the coleslaw and the potato salad 🙂 love this place. I recommend popping in if you get the chance, prices are friendly, unlike most of Ludlow. The staff are great and chatty ..

Drove for an hour to try their roast pork baguettes with stuffing, apple and crunchy crackling. Ate it sat by the castle, absolutely amazing. Cannot wait to go back.

Just an outsanding shop from yesteryear in terms of appearance, customer service, quality and personel. It looks fantastic on the high street and really catches your eye even in the fab town of Ludlow. The sandwich lady got stung by a wasp and we gave her a tube of sting and bite insect cream; she was so grateful but we would have done this for anyone.hope you feel better.

This is definitely a hidden gem in Ludlow, we called in for hot Sausage and stuffing baguettes, they were delicious 😋, friendly helpful staff, well worth a trip to Ludlow just to visit Vaughans A*****

Relating to the ecstatic comments about the roast pork, which enticed me, I would certainly say that it was very, very good, but not the "total experience" one could be led to expect. By all means try it, but don't expect the earth to move! :-))

Wow !!! Our first time to Ludlow town centre and we visited here after reading all the reviews on here. My partner had the pork , stuffing , apple sauce and crackling baguette with apple sauce and I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans and both were amazing. The salad bar looked amazing as well. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is visiting Ludlow. My only wish is that the shop was bigger and there were tables inside so we could have sat down , but overall this snack bar is 10/10.

Decided to ring a small change and have the sausage & bacon bap... and it was just as outstanding as my usual pork/stuffing/apple sauce/crackling, and possibly even more generous. Someone complained about having only one of each, which I cannot understand as my bap had three large sausages and two thick slices of bacon. Service was also the usual high standard. Unhesitatingly recommended.

Lovely quality sandwich we both opted for the full works on the traditional pork bap. Perfect little lunch stop high quality local produce. Stumbled upon this hidden gem whilst having a wander around Ludlow at lunchtime and just fancied a nice baguette and we were not disappointed this place is out of this world. My partner had a tuna and sweetcorn baguette and I had the Mexican chicken baguette, these are made in front of you with a smile and a chat amd stuffed full of filling best baguette I have ever eaten and excellent value for money. Vaughan’s is 110% worth a visit we can’t wait to go back and try the hot pork baguettes.

We nearly missed this shop. Admired the hot cooked meats in the window first pass by but then when walking back saw a baguette being made up and thought why not. We were not disappointed, in fact there are no words to describe the flavour and quality of our baguette. They offer hot pork with stuffing or local Ludlow sausages plus cold fillings as well. Don’t miss this gem of a shop

We had the roast pork bap with crackling which was absolutely yummy! Despite only having had breakfast a short time before, we saw the pork in the window and couldn't resist. The consistent queues speak for themselves. A must when in Ludlow!

Well worth hunting this small place down a side street in Ludlow, near the centre. Fantastic roast pork baguette, huge, with stuffing and crackling. Sadly couldn't manage it all myself but the dog enjoyed the left over meat! Many thanks

We called in at about 10am for a sandwich and hot drink the owner served us and was a lovely friendly guy very chatty and the sausage sandwich and bap we had were amazing massive of filling and tasted delicious .The sandwich fillings looked great too all lovely and fresh all very tempting would definitely recommend a visit

You could tell the food was good here by the people queuing outside, we joined it when there was 4 people in front of us and when we had been served there was more waiting. We ordered the box of meat and it was more than enough for two, tasty and delicious. Ask for all the trimmings as the apple sauce and stuffing is lovely.

Tiny sandwich shop selling baps and baguettes loaded with delicious roast pork, stuffing and apple sauce and the crispiest crackling. Other fillings also available and looked good but the roast pork is clearly the star and has people queuing down the street every day for good reason. Don’t expect to need dinner after a lunch from here!

A treat of a sandwich bar. Breakfast baguette was huge - easily enough one between two. Service was so friendly, got lunch their too, fabulous salad box and lovely sandwich, which we took with us on our travels.

Walking through the town mid morning and spotted a couple of large pork joints in the window. Told my wife that I love the look of this and I really want to have a pork baguette. Luckily I turned up at 2:30 and managed one of the last ones on offer. It was as fantastic as it looked . The best baguette I've ever had.

Outstanding hot pork! We both chose the pork with apple, stuffing and cracking. It was absolutely delicious - really memorable. There were lots of other delicious-looking fillings as well but we were very happy with our choice. The owner was really friendly and helpful as well. Fully recommend and would love to go back.

Sandwiches are tasty, we were pleased to see that they offered the fillings as jacket potato toppings too! The couple running the sandwich bar are just too cute and I couldn’t award anything less than a 5.

We live a good hour away from Ludlow and so we make this a special trip out. We always have lunch at Vaughans Sandwich Bar. It has a small shop which is packed with such a variety of fillings for sandwiches made from all types of bread, baps, baguettes and also salad boxes if you don't want bread. They have spit roasted pork with crackling and other meats including bacon and sausage. They sell tea, coffee etc and cold drinks as well as crisps. They have a small seating area upstairs (about 4 tables), not open I think for another month due to Covid restrictions because it is a small area. Carol and Mark are such lovely helpful and welcoming people. Quality of the food is exceptional and cooked to perfection. Why would you go anywhere else! Would like to keep this review secret but they deserve the recognition!

This sandwich bar is my favourite anywhere in the world. The sandwiches are fresh and very big and tasty. The jacket potato was freshly made and toppings were home made and super tasty. I'm visiting Ludlow as part of a holiday but 100% would travel back here and call back for another tasty lunch.Excellent value for money.

Six of us had lunch from here while visiting Ludlow and were so impressed. They certainly don’t skimp on fillings, my sandwich was enormous, and the salad bar was wonderful with so many tasty options. Highly recommended.

Yes there was a queue, a big one! No matter, great selection of fillings and fresh baps. My wife had a salad box and really enjoyed it. Very friendly server who went out of his way to explain what was on offer and did not get flustered or reduce the portion size despite the length of the queue. Great sandwich shop.

This place is legendary. Queuing is worth while even if they run out of sausage and bacon sarnies just before you get to the front. We had the homemade salad box and it was extremely tasty, filling and good value at a fiver. Lots of salad to choose from - there was Mediterranean theme the day we went - and everything we had was superb! The service was so friendly ...even our dog got a free piece of chicken for the road.

Given the other reviews you hardly need me to tell you this is a very good sandwich bar indeed. Great sausages. Great bacon. Great service. On top form in May 21.

We've been in delightful Ludlow quite a few times over the last month or so, and I noticed this sandwich bar always has a queue outside it - no matter the time of day.Accordingly, feeling a bit peckish earlier this week I joined the queue for a bacon sandwich (her) and a roast pork sandwich (me). Both were excellent and from local producers. My pork sandwich was too much, and a messy one...but very very good!I paid £9.80, good value and with cheerful service.Thoroughly recommended.

Just had a wonderful combo box. Filled to the brim with whatever I wanted from the hot or cold selection. Masses to choose from in the salad selection.Had some cold salads (coleslaw, chicken and grape, pasta and tomato herby mix - delicious and fresh) and hot roast pork with apple sauce and stuffing. Wow, it was wonderful. The crackling is as crackling should be, really crisp and full of flavour.So good to be able to go back there again. Screens in place, hygienic and safe with only one person in at a time (unless you are a family or couple). You can't get many people inside anyway as it is a small area. You just queue outside and wait your turn, no problem there as you get tantalised by the wonderful aroma.Had a nice chat with, I presume was the owner, whilst he layered up my selection, squashing it down and making sure it was full to the brim .... it was! Very good value for money. Will be back again soon as I can.

We popped in today while visiting Ludlow. We were drawn in by the mouth watering food displayed in the window. We had the combo box, filled with pork , sausage , stuffing, Apple sauce all layered on top of a selection of fillings. I had coleslaw ,lemon pepper chicken and cheese/onion filling. It was delicious, so much flavour. The gentleman that served us was really friendly and helpful. Will visit again next time we visit Ludlow.

Visited this sandwich bar whilst visiting Ludlow. Covid restrictions were in place but still very welcoming. Staff were very friendly. Had a sausage baguette which was full of sausage, and a range of sauces were on offer. Delicious. The salad box was gorgeous, a fantastic choice on offer. Hot and cold dishes available. Great Value. If you want a sandwich or salad then definitely visit Vaughan’s. Wonderful. Well done.

Probably the best sandwich bar I have ever had the pleasure to buy from. Pork baguette with all the trimmings outstanding as was the crackling. The salad boxes were very generous and interesting combinations. Will be back to try the Ludlow sausage sandwiches!

After traveling to Ludlow we decided to try Vaughans sandwiches as we had seen the great reviews. I had the nicest pork and stuffing baguette I've ever had. Really friendly staff all round excellent.

We saw the queues for this place and had heard it was great but decided to try later in the day when it wasn't as busy. Well worth it and great value for money.

We stayed the night at a local hotel and needed something substantial for the journey back to London. Stopped by Vaughan’s at the end of service just before closing- despite this the food was delicious! We both had pork bap with apple sauce- some mushrooms and tomato/mozzarella/spinach on the side. The reviews did not disappoint! Due to covid we had this to take away and walked round to the castle to eat. Great service and great food, hope to visit again.

Great place to get lunch. Personally I don't eat meat but they got various choices for salad and sandwiches that are vegetarian friendly !!

Not wanting a full lunch, Vaughans offered us just what we wanted. Pork baguette, local meat, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Brilliant! The sausage sandwich with sausages from Tenbury Wells, fabulously delicious. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We were in Ludlow for a couple of hours site seeing and wanted a late breakfast. This place is a little gem. Hubby had a sausage sandwich with loads of sausage and I had a bacon bap which had so much thick bacon on. It was well worth the money and the people who own it are lovely. We sat upstairs in the little cafe area watching the world go by outside. Really recommend this place.

We called in for lunch on a day visit to Ludlow. Staff could not have been more helpful and friendly.Lots of choice, finished up with a plateful of lovely food of my choice for £5.50. What's not to like?Ate in small, rustic room on first floor.This was bargain of the day.

Doing some shopping in Ludlow we wanted to stop for a quick bite. We hadn’t been to Vaughan’s before but we’d walked by and salivated on earlier trips.We opted for a roast pork bap with sauces and crackling and a sausage each.We ate in the street and it was messy, and hot and delicious. The photo looks like a hot mess but it was perfect when we were handed the baguette!Looking forward to going back when we are tasked with picking up the meat at Christmas!

We had lunch from Vaughans twice during a recent holiday near Ludlow. Having looked around many of the food shops in Ludlow, we chose Vaughans first because of the window display of the sandwich fillings and the pork particulalry. The first occasion we both had roast pork baps, with stuffing and apple sauce. Absolutely lovely, with brilliant proper crackling! The pork was carved off a roast joint for each bap. The second time we had Ludlow sausage baps, with mustard. Again, awesome. The server told us that if you want sausages it's best to get there for lunch before twelve as they sell out during the morning. The pork was still available for us after one.

Solo visit this time but have visited Vaughns many times .had a salad box in a recyclable boxes instead of plastic ones excellent! But! The lady that served me was very curt usually ive had a little of a few things but she was rude in the way she told me i could have five only .this made the visit very down putting and i really dont want to go in again if she is serving. The owner is good and i must say its worth going there usually

We could smell the roast pork on the street. We had a takeaway baguette, with pork, crackling, stuffing and apple sauce. It was huge, delicious and just right for a damp cold day. Very good value compared with the surrounding eateries and coffee shops. Thank you. Can highly recommend

Nice sandwich but unfortunately customer service is the worse I've experienced in any place. Whilst on holiday I took my family for a relaxing breakfast in the upstairs seating area. The ladies serving we're not welcoming in the slightest and another customer carried some of my drinks ,as a few of my family we're not able to, when she witnessed me being answered in an uncooperatve manner. Staff then complained loudly in earshot that we had left our empty plates upstairs.

Visited here 5 years ago - nothing has changed from the service, quality of food and friendliness. Cannot recommend Vaughan's highly enough. The pork, sausage and bacon barms are to die for! But if you like Veggie meals you can find what you want as well. ps - the dog sat outside but was spoiled!! - free sausage treats.

We have been coming to Ludlow for the Food Festival for ten years. Have noticed this place over the years. Finally had lunch from here this last weekend. Totally fresh and delicious. Really would recommend and visit again next time.

Was in town for few days, passed this shop one morning. The smell drew me in , freindly service and recommended this Ludlow sausage n bacon sandwich. Ate it next to the castle as I watched the market set up that morning. Magic

Myself and my girlfriend popped in vaughans when passing just after we arrived in Ludlow for 2 days stay. We wanted the roast pork sandwich but they had sold out but still had the most fantastic sausage sandwich all locally sourced and you could taste the quality. I would recommend this place

We visited vaughans whilst on our recent stay in Torquay. Staff were really friendly. We had the best burger we've ever had at a great price. The coleslaw was amazing. Will be back on our next break

Well what can I say amazing food.

Good sandwiches (lots of delicious fillings to choose from) and friendly staff. It seems like baps are particularly popular (probably to go with the famous pork) so if that’s your bread format of choice, the earlier you go, the less likely you are to be disappointed. That said — what’s wrong with a nice baguette?
