The Anvil is one of our favourite Real Ale pubs in Shropshire as the owners , Black Country Ales , sensibly have a number ever changing guest ales , chosen and kept in excellent condition by Thom , the landlord. Thom is due to move to The White Hart in Shifnal which Black Country Ales bought earlier in 2024. The White Hart has been closed for over 2 years and serious up dating and renovation is needed before Thom moves. We continue to visit The Anvil at least twice a week ,as it is a warm, comfortable and friendly with an excellent range of up to 12 real ales including guest ales and real ciders. The landlords , Thom and Eliose , are welcoming and care for the customers needs. The inside is one large room with several seperate spaces either side of the bar but it is laid out so that it feels cosy with a real fire at the end of one section. Parking is on the road just outside The Anvil. The rear patio has seven tables with a tent type overhead covering . There is a gel station as you enter through the door. Pleased that The Anvil seems to be thriving , In our opinion The Anvil is the best public house in Shifnal and one of the best in Shropshire. A pity that The Anvil no longer has a car park as the old car park had Anvil Lodge built on it. A seperate bed and breakfast business. On the 07 December 2018 parking on Aston Street was difficult so parked on BSS & Co (Accountancy) car park in Greenfields after asking the pleasant owner who was just departing. He said he was Ok about it as it made the place look busy.

My husband really enjoys the real ales and the whole family enjoy the cheese and onion cobs. The Anvil has a lovely warm, friendly atmosphere. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the ale's. They also welcome dogs which is a massive bonus for us. Looking forward to many more afternoons and evenings.

I've been in several times over the past couple of years, with friends, family or on my own, as there's always a friendly welcome and a good selection of ales. When pubs reopened I didn't go anywhere for a while, but a few weeks ago I visited The Anvil and have been back several times since. They are doing everything they can to make it safe for everyone (table service was already in place before it was mandatory), while still maintaining the friendly atmosphere and great service. The ales are well kept, and you can see what's available and coming soon on the Real Ale Finder app! There's also a great selection of other drinks. The food is kept simple, which I think is a great idea. It's lovely having a cob with a couple of pints by the real fire. Booked a table for my next visit and taking the dog as he loves it there too.

I go to the Anvil regularly, it is one of the most welcoming pubs that I know. Thom, Eloise, Mick, Jane and Dave greet everyone warmly and look after their customers needs with care. There is always a great selection of well kept ales on (8 cask, typically 5 changing, 2 real ciders lines and a new keg beer line). Very good gin and rum selection also. Cobs are always very popular although I tend to opt for a locally produced pork pie (pork and stilton my current favourite) from the great selection. The atmosphere is always vibrant and its great place to go with others or on your own as there is always a friendly face to talk to it, be it the excellent staff or other customers. The pub and beer garden are dog friendly. The beer garden currently has a marquee so that allows you to relax outside and not have to worry about the rain!In these strange times the team have adapted to a COVID safe approach. Hand sanitiser at the entrance and throughout the pub. You are met at the door, details captured and taken to a table. Then it’s table service for drinks and snacks.

The Anvil is my local pub and I’m lucky to have such a great pub on my doorstep. The rotation of ales means there’s always something new to try and the beer is kept well by the staff who take pride in their work. The pub itself has a very nice welcoming atmosphere with friendly regulars. I often pop in with my dog after a walk and in the colder months the fire roars which creates a nice cozy environment. On selected evening the Anvils darts team can be found playing and a dominoes team are also in attendance.Traditional pub snacks can be purchased from the bar with some of the biggest and most delicious pork pies I have ever come across, ordered from a local butcher. If you are in a rush as well, why not take away a 2 pint beer carton? Most recently I have been impressed by the Anvils high standards in relation to the coronavirus pandemic. Upon re opening strict guidelines have been imposed on the hospitality industry and the anvil has responded with the upmost regard for its customer’s well being. The staff are working even harder than before to ensure that every part of the pub is sanitised, social distancing is being adhered to and hygiene is being taken care of.Well done everyone at the Anvil for making the pub great.

I've been to The Anvil many times since it reopened as a Black Country Ales pub. The beer is exceptional. There's usually about 8 real ales on draught and a couple of draught ciders. There is always 3 of the Black Country Ales beers and an ever changing selection of interesting and award winning beers and stouts. To put it another way, there's always a good choice of well kept beers. Wines, lagers, spirits, and alcohol free drinks are also available for the non beer fans.If you are in need of something to eat, various filled crusty rolls, sausage rolls, and assorted flavour pork pies will keep your hunger at bay. The usual crisps and nuts are also available. During the summer months, a welcome treat is the complimentary crackers and cheese that seem to be served on Saturday afternoons. And during winter months fresh hot pork rolls with gravy and apple sauce are the absolute best. The atmosphere at The Anvil is very relaxed, friendly locals and real ale drinkers are the usual folks who frequent. The pub has a cosy real fire. A small section at the front of the building is dog friendly. There is also a small beer garden at the rear of the pub which is a sun trap in the summer. If you like darts, dominoes, and quiz nights, The Anvil regularly host these activities. All in all, great staff, well kept beers, very clean toilets, good quality food and bar snacks, and all within a friendly local pub with good walking access to Shifnal and the local train station. What more could you want from a CAMRA award winning community pub?

Started visting the anvil in october 2018 when it reopened. Been our no.1 choice of pub since! Always a brilliant choice of ales and ciders on tap (also different lagers available more of an ale man myself). To compliment these always a great choice of homemade cobs and snacks available! Real comfortable feeling pub with open fire and relaxing beer garden. Even air con for those hot summer days! But most of all what we love about this pub it always maintains a friendly & comforting atmosphere. Never has it turned into a “cliquey” regulars pub which shows how well tom & eloise run this place. If you are passing shifnal or live in the area its well worth giving this pub a visit

This is a real gem! It was a cold weekend, the kind where all you need after a long family walk with the dog is a nice drink and a real fire! There was an ample choice of ale and even 3 different ciders on tap. The filled rolls are a must, all freshly prepared. A great choice of pork pies and of course the Anvil's hot slow cooked pork rolls are to die for!I couldn't make my mind up what beer to have so I got a flight of thirds presented on a wooden paddle to sample three at a time! The gin menu is massive and found with all information on every table. There was a lovely atmosphere in the Anvil, a gentle hum of conversations and laughter and the heat from the fire (where the dog was welcome) was as warm as the service from the very knowledgeable bar staff. The pub is very clean, traditional and up to date with LCD screens displaying information on the latest beers and ciders, showing the strength and characteristics of each. There is a dog friendly courtyard-style garden too that is very secure with a heated sitting area, great in all weathers! My parents and family live in another part of the country but all say that when they are up next, they "should have a drink in the Anvil"!

We visited The Anvil for the first time and really enjoyed it. The pub has been renovated fairly recently but still retains the traditional pub feel. If you’re a local there’s lots of old photographs of the town to look at on the walls which just add to the atmosphere. There’s a great selection of real ales I particularly enjoyed the “Fireside” bitter. We had old school, cheese and onion cobs with drinks which were just the job. They don’t do hot food but in honesty it doesn’t need to, this is a proper pub.

Always superb and in a wonderful atmosphere with a roaring open fire, what could be better. This was our first visit and we were very impressed by the choice of beers and ciders. We had cobs and an apple pork pie to accompany our beers which was an excellent combination of flavours. We can definitely recommend the pork pies for flavour! However at 1pm on a Saturday only a few other people were in; please frequent this pub before it secumbs in the same way others have! If you like a good traditional pub with a real fire, gin menu, real ale and tasty food, give this pub a try! We will definitely return to relax in a friendly and cosy environment. I would recommend to the landlord to introduce a thirds of a pint offer so that people can enjoy all your beer rather than making difficult choices at the bar!

The Anvil has been saved from extinction, and not only that, it has been greatly improved, becoming large enough to be viable, yet retaining at least some of its original charm. Tom and Eloise have now run it for a year with great success, offering a welcome to customers old and new. They serve a wide range of real ales and ciders as well as cobs and pies and, more recently, hot pork rolls. The modernisation has included inside toilets and an external heated smoking area, and an Astroturf garden seating area. The real fire has been retained. It is truly great that this, one of Shifnal's best traditional pubs, is thriving again.

First time my son & I had tried this deli, disappointing. I ordered the ham, brie, & cranberry pannini but it arrived with no cranberry. My son ordered the ham, goats cheese & olive roll, arrived with no olives! The roll seemed a little stale on one side. Although the owner gave me some very watery cranberry sauce (new jar needed), my son decided it wasn't worth the wait for his order to be corrected as we had an appointment. My pannini was good, but we would like what we order to be as described.
