Vanilla Black at The Theatre in Glasgow City

Was just a wonderful experience.we all had a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We would definitely recommend.

DO NOT GO HERE. Went with my wife for her birthday. Food was cold, we got the wrong order. Staff were so rude. When we sent back the order that was wrong, the correct order was finally brought out 1 hour after we ordered. To my complete horror I noticed that there were several pubic hairs dotted around my food. This was a malicious and vile act by the staff against us, simply because we asked for what we had ordered.

Hit the spot for £5.90. Good small decaf and excellent Victoria sponge cake. BUT, why no plate, it was droped/broken into a take out Chinese food container!!!

Theatre Royal should seriously rethink this cafe. A complete overhaul would be beneficial. I've visited 3 times post covid restrictions, giving it the benefit of the doubt, but I will not use it again. On each of the 3 occasions there has been a very long queue, very slow service, very limited options on the menu and completely insufficient seating. If you are happy to purchase a quick snack and to eat it standing up then please do, but I would not recommend it.

Acabo de tomar el té de la tarde en Vanilla Black en el teatro Royal Glasgow. Tomé a mi madre de 80 años como regalo antes de una matiné. ¡Qué experiencia tan encantadora! Nos llevaron a nuestra mesa, que estaba bellamente decorada con un jarrón de flores y pétalos de rosa. La camarera era simplemente encantadora y muy servicial. Disfrutamos de una deliciosa selección de sándwiches para comenzar junto con un montón de té. Una experiencia gastronómica muy decepcionante antes del teatro que me hace preguntarme "¿Nos perdimos algo"? ! ¡Aquí hay tantas reseñas de un delicioso té de la tarde pero no pudimos ver nada que ofrezca un té de la tarde o incluso un almuerzo o merienda decente! Todos los sándwiches fueron empacados previamente en recipientes de cartón "sacar", no nos dieron platos y nuestro té fue servido en una taza de cartón. Se anuncia como un restaurante, no como una cafetería para llevar. No había mesas y tuvimos que compartir un banco estrecho y usar una silla de plástico como mesa improvisada. Tuve un sándwich de queso crema y salmón ahumado y la porción de salmón ahumado apenas estaba allí. El miembro del personal con el que hablé, preguntando dónde estaba el menú, fue agradable pero no muy bien informado. Por ejemplo, no sabía si había o no sopa o alguna comida caliente o ensaladas. Esta es la peor experiencia gastronómica previa al teatro que he tenido, ¿qué salió mal que nuestra experiencia fue tan diferente de la de aquellos que afirman que tomaron un maravilloso té de la tarde? ¿Tiene que ser pre-reservado? Sentí que habíamos tomado un bocadillo para llevar en un lugar similar a la sala de espera de una estación de autobuses. ¿Por qué nos sirvieron comida para llevar cuando estábamos sentados en un restaurante? ?

When you walk in the place looks like a cafe but the afternoon tea was amazing. Delicious sandwiches e.g. Brie and caramelised onion, salmon etc. Two lovely young ladies attended to us and were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend it.

Had afternoon tea before matinee. Table really nicely decorated. Staff lovely. Food selection was really freshly made, YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!! What a lovely experience will definately do it again. Thank you to all involved. Credit to management.

We had a lovely afternoon tea as a treat for my Mum prior to The Bodyguard musical. 5 ⭐ service from start to finish. Our table was set for us arriving. Afternoon tea was amazing and thoroughly delicious. We were both very impressed and will definitely be back. Highly recommend 😃

Was booked for two and highchair. Table was set up for us perfectly we didn't need high chair. Food was great,service was great,ambience great and wee one loved it! Thats definitely a return!

Arrived earlier than we had booked, but staff quickly cleared a table for us despite being very busy. Flowers were put on the table, and pots of tea were served along with sandwiches as requested. The sandwiches were so fresh, and a good assortment of fillings. This was followed by scones, made up with strawberry jam and cream which were delicious. Then a great assortment of cakes, which were all delicious. A surprise of a chocolate was found underneath the cup. Staff were so attentive, and could not do enough for you. Highly recommended for an afternoon tea.

I work nearby and often drop by for a takeaway coffee. The lady who runs the cafe is lovely and often says "your usual" when she sees me. She makes a lot of the cakes which are immensely delicious. Highly recommend either a takeout or sit in.

I had booked afternoon tea as a Christmas present for my sister.We arrived to really nice,welcoming staff. They had reserved a table and put flowers and lights to decorate the table.The staff were so attentive and helpful,They explained about the sandwiches and cakes.They couldn't do enough and offered me a hot chocolate as an alternative to tea and The sandwiches were really nice.Cajun chicken,cheese and cranberry and ham sandwiches. The cakes were great too.Merguines,maroons,sponge cake,scones. I would go back again and Recommend it. Five star treatment.

Booked this tbrough a groupon deal for my friend and I. We had a lovely afternoon tea nice selection of sandwiches and the cakes were great. You also get a little goodie bag with chocolates to take away. The staff were friendly and helpful place was spotless and had a good atmosphere about it. Would definitely go again.

Can't recommend Afternoon Tea at Vanilla Black enough. Lots of nice touches such as rose petals on the table. Service, food and staff were all brilliant. If you are booking afternoon tea in Glasgow I'd highly recommend Vanilla Black.

Light lunch with wife using voucher. Great value. Had coffee, toastie and slice cake each...very tasty. Staff all very friendly and attentive. Will be back!!!

Stylish layout and very helpful staff. Food and coffee of a high standard. A very good selection of snacks including savoury and sweet.

We had been given a voucher for the afternoon tea above and didn't know what to expect. We were greeted by the staff and seated promptly in a comfortable corner under the stairs. The staff explained precisely what they would serve and brought the drinks first. Shortly afterwards, the sandwiches, scones and cakes followed, together with a couple of hand-made chocolates to take home with us. The food was delicious, and the service very pleasant. I would certainly recommend going there.

Plenty of variety in sandwiches and cakes.....and lots of them! Staff really helpful! We hadn't pre booked but they managed to sort it out for us......but make sure to pre book! Lovely start to our theatre trip to see "The Broons" Brilliant afternoon

Selección de tartas aburrida. pobre Pilas de platos sucios apilados en una mesa. Tuve que ir a un lugar diferente para pedir bebidas alcohólicas como son "diferente empresas. Personal muy familiarizado con el diseño del teatro, conocimientos básicos era deficiente.

Lovely food and service. Located within Theatre Royal and well worth a visit.

Took my mum for afternoon for belated mothers day.Used a voucher. The ballet was on so when we entered tables were all dirty taken to a table at the window which was dirty floor not clean. Asked to be moved was served the afternoon tea at different stages. Table was not set had to ask for cutlery etc. Food was fine but sandwiches had been left out before we got them. Overall experience poor an afternoon tea should be special. If you can't manage a good service when a show is in perhaps you should not take booking for afternoon teas.

This was a discounted offer. We had prosecco and afternoon tea. Sandwiches were delicious and there was a good range of cakes. Too much for us to finish. The staff were friendly and attentive. My only issue would be the tables and chairs were light weight and a bit wobbly. And not the most comfortable for a prolonged period of sitting. However would definitely recommend

Eating alone while on business is not alway a luxury and this unique restaurant offered great food, close to my hotel and friendly service.

Thoroughly enjoyed a quick lunch at Vanilla Black! The food is presented very well and tastes great too! The prices are very reasonable and there is also a good amount of choice! If you are going before a show, expect the cafe to be very busy; however out with performance times it is a very relaxing cafe to sit in. We were one of only three tables in the cafe at 12:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. I appreciate that this would not suit everyone, but if you are needing a moment of calm it's great! Another fantastic reason to visit the cafe (aside from enjoying the good food and coffee) is to see the beautiful new extension to the theatre royal!

Had a panini that was really nice and a proper, good capuccino. Nice staff, and a very stylish environment. Nice and quiet on non theatre days. Will get busy otherwise.

Vanilla Black's opening hours are longer if there is a performance at the theatre. We had a pre-theatre meal at an Italian down the road, and then had coffee from Vanilla Black which was very good coffee, and we're also able to buy a small box of 8 artisan chocolates which was perfect. The cakes and things looked divine! The only drawback was that, because there was a performance on, there were lots of people there and nowhere to sit, although we did check that we could take our coffees to different floors - I would suggest that you take the lift to the top floor as there are tables and chairs there and it's really quiet!

New cafe in the recently opened addition to the Theatre Royal. Lovely cakes, friendly staff, open every day while the box office is open. Go up the stairs or take the lift to the rooftop terrace if the weather is good. They are doing a Friday lunch and music special too.
