I think this is the most fashionable Italian grocery store in Edinburgh. You can also eat at the back of the store ♫ The food was more average than I expected, but the atmosphere was great! ! We have a variety of Italian foods such as cheese, prosciutto, olive oil, and pasta. It's a little pricey, but just looking at the products in the store makes me feel happy.

I like everything V&C have done over the years, I miss the Vin Caffe on Multrees Walk and the Caffe bar in Jenners, enjoyed Centotre when it first opened and the Canonball. But it must have been nearly 8 years since I ventured down to Elm Row, and I’m so glad I did. You walk in and experience a truly authentic Italian delicatessen, everything is so right from how the shelves are stocked to the smell and the noise, you’re no longer at the top of the walk but could be in the old country or the north end in Boston. I had originally popped in just to buy something from the delicatessen but the smell and bustle from the Vin caffe drew me in. I was in luck and able to get a table. I ordered the prosciutto with melon with a glass of Prosecco and the sausage rigatoni with a glass of montepuliciano. The exceptionally helpful waitress came back to say they had run out of the Italian melon but chef suggested some fresh peach instead - it was an perfect starter, and the peach tones of the Prosecco really complimented it. One of the best Proseccos I have tasted, and I have tasted plenty! The rigatoni was well cooked and had a lovely hit of heat, the red wine cut through the rich tomato sugo. Absolutely stuffed I couldn’t manage a dessert but had a double espresso with a frangelico on the side. The coffee is incredible, if you have never tried frangelico it works really well with strong coffee. Service is prompt, professional and attentive without being intrusive. I now feel incredibly guilty that it’s so long since I’ve been here, it won’t be long until my next visit. If you want truly authentic Italian food in an atmosphere that is closer to Tuscany than Tranent please don’t forget just how good Valvona & Crolla. Time for another espresso and frangelico - Salute!

Shame to read a previous comment where people don't really understand how even at costa coffee now a cup of black coffee is £4.10...that's why minimum wages have gone up in April: it is called inflation my friend. Ordered online at 5.15pm, and was given an estimated collection time of 5.35. Went to the cafe next door to have a quick coffee, then went to pick up my order at 5.40, giving them 5 minutes grace, only to be told it would be ten minutes. Ended up waiting, along with another customer in the same situation, until 6.25. We asked numerous times for updates on where our food was, but just kept getting told 'soon'. Myself, and the other customer, had to go through to the restaurant side to try and get an update. I eventually got my food, nearly an hour after I'd ordered. Bearing in mind I'd ordered only 2 pizzas and a garlic bread, I have no idea why it took so long, especially when the restaurant didn't even look particularly busy. The food itself was basic, and not worth the price or the wait. I've had better frozen pizzas in all honesty. Used to be a decent place, but has went drastically downhill in recent times and won't be visiting again I'm afraid.

Astonished this place got a Bib Gourmand. As someone who spends quite a bit of time in Italy, this was a crashing disappointment. Italian cooking - and the Italians - are all about generosity, heart, big flavour and loads of personality. This is the antithesis of typical Italian hospitality, tiny parsimonious portions, most dishes tasted the same (salty) and it all felt quite mean spirited and sad. We were recommended to have 8 or 9 dishes to share between 5 of us, which we did, and were advised they’d come to the table when they were ready - fine. However they actually came out one at a time, meaning there there five of us trying to share a tiny plate. Pasta portions were so small, we each got one measly forkful. We got three sad tortolinni to share between 5- where’s the joy in that? Massively overpriced for what it was - honestly should have gone to one of the longstanding trats across the road, at least I wouldn’t have left hungry. I’ve given it two stars purely because our waitress was lovely, otherwise it would have been one.
