Excellent and tasty tapas style Italian dishes. Unfortunately there was no red or white wine available, even though it was on the drinks menu. The beer, although good, came in pints. Slightly underwhelmed by the service, though it was made up for by excellent dishes and reasonable prices. We would go back, but next time would be nice to have a glass of wine too!

Quality of the food is good, but the portions are very small. So if you want a normal diner, order two main dishes per person. If you come before 6pm pasta and pizza is 6 pounds per portion. That’s a reasonable price but I won’t pay more for those small portions. Service depends on the day. We were here on Tuesday 22th Octobre and the personal was very friendly, but the personal on Thursday 24th Octobre was not that friendly.

Good selection of Italian dishes. Small plates, rather than full courses, so it's best to order 2-3 dishes, this gives you an opportunity to try a lot of things. Prices are reasonable. Service is quick and friendly. Food is tasty, although not exceptional. Nice selection of beer.

The place is nice and the atmosphere + location is pretty good. Service was very efficient and nice as well. However, the food is not the best. Particularly the portion sizes are very very small. Even the pizza is marginally bigger than a slide of bread. Expensive for that matter.

On 13th October 2024, my wife and I visited there first for our lunch. All staffs were very kind. All cuisines were very good. There were very comfortable restaurant. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!

As I was having the food (carbonara), I decided to have a look at the reviews (you can guess why!) and I wasn't surprised to see many found food to be bland. I think in my case the pasta was already ready, and some creamy sauce was added on top and handed over. I probably wouldn't go back for pasta. Also, it's a baby portion so maybe order more than one item.

Food not good. Pasta not cooked enough. Took over 20 min to get water. Host/manager is rude. Better off waiting an hour for a table somewhere else than going there.

Nice staff, attentive. Big restaurant so it's actually very cold (wear a big sweater). I had pizza and pasta in the lunchtime deal. Pizza with broccoli (about size of a side plate) and quite tasty. Also had carbonara which is absolutely not carbonara - more like scrambled egg. I don't understand how an 'Italian' restaurant does not know how to make traditional carbonara! Look at a recipe it's not difficult. In saying that we may well go back as it's easy to get to so I would recommend

Small dishes, for excellent results. I recommend taking them in pairs for a complete meal.

Really slow service. We just came in for few cocktails. Which made it clear when walked in. Seemed they want you to buy food as well. Very poor service wouldn’t come back ever!!

Recommended by the restaurant next door because everything was full! Great discovery! Dish in the form of tapas so we can taste everyone! The quality is there, it’s excellent! Children don't pay on Sunday! The servers are available and pleasant! I highly recommend

Looked forward for lunch after checking out the restaurants website and the menu looked good however the food was disappointing. The Arancini balls were too crisp and appeared to be like something out of the freezer and the sauce with them was very bland. One of our pizzas was under cooked and lukewarm. The pasta dish had a bland tomato sauce. When we asked to order desert only thing available was Tiramisu, ice cream machine was broken and the cheesecake was not going to be set for another 1.5 hours very poor for a weekend. The concept is good but the food was average at best soI would not recommend a visit and I wont be going back

Lovely idea to have tapas sized plates! Tried 3 different vegetarian pasta dishes that were all rather unusual - I love restaurants that have options that are a bit different. All of them were really good! Not all were labelled clearly as vegetarian, so the selection is much bigger than it looks at first glance.

Amazing pizza, wine and dessert. If you want a quality meal and service this is the place to go.

I would not recommend this place at all. Although the food was good overall, the service is absolutely appalling. We visited on a Saturday evening and there clearly was not enough staff in to provide a service to keep up with the demand. One front of house (we'll get to him later), one ordering waitress, one bartender and one server (who worked his socks off all night trying to keep up, little success). Front of house showed us to our seats, but was clearly disappointed that we had never been before and so he had to explain the ordering and serving system to us. He gave us our menus and left. 15minutes later the waitress eventually arrives to take our drinks order, another 10minutes and comes back for our food order, without drinks. Placed our order and eventually our drinks arrived, including two jugs of water which we requested. Upon going to pour the water, we discovered it had 10 or more fruit flies floating on the top (attached photo). We tried for a few minutes to get someone's attention but in the end one of our party had to return it to the bar ourselves. The front of house person was there, to which he turned his head towards our person, said a gruff "sorry" and quickly went off to greet another table. This water never got replaced throughout the rest of our stay. To be honest, I wanted to leave there and then, pay for our drinks and go. However, as a group we decided to stay, mainly because we would struggle to get in anywhere else at that time (around 6.30pm on a Saturday evening), giving them the benefit of the doubt knowing that the food was coming from a different area than the drinks did. Our food started to arrive, tapas style so it comes as and when it is ready. Several times we were offered plates of food that we did not order, belonging to other tables, twice even having it forcibly put down in front of us and told it was ours. Which it wasn't at all so we said to take it away. Most of the food we did order was nice, if a little cold. However, two people in our party were still waiting for some plates they had ordered some 20 or more minutes later, the last arriving when everyone else had finished eating and we were asking for the bill. We had tried to chase up these dishes several times and were told it was coming, 2 minutes, etc but never once was there an apology for the delay. Or for the poor service. In the hospitality industry, a genuine and sincere apology goes a long way, but nobody we dealt with at this place seemed to care. Noone came to check if our food was okay, did we need anything, would we like any more drinks? We never got our jug of fly water replaced or even an acceptable acknowledgement of their mistake(s). It is the first time in my life that, upon leaving, I wanted to tell those others waiting at the door for a table to turn away and find somewhere else. The front of house person is exceptionally arrogant, uncaring and not somebody who I would want to be representing my business. The lone waitress and server clearly had far too many tables to look after singlehandedly and other than clearing one table, I did not see him helping them out at all. Delicious value and exceptional service. Food was very good and I would return.

Awful service, food is poorly done and portions are very small and prices are very high. The menu is written in Italian, however no one is able to speak in Italian. Definitely, not recommended with that staff

Had the most delightful dining experience tonight. Arttilar was a superb host and his team gave excellent service - there were 4 of us and Arttilar had us rolling with laughter. A very funny man running an efficient establish. Sadly we are only visitors but the Uni students in our party will def be back for more!

the staff was super nice and friendly a wee bit pricey for the small dishes, but nice concept of sharing a few plates. food was not exceptional, one dish was extremely salty while the others lacked any flavour. A pepper and salt mill at the table would have been appreciated.

Don't bother. It was a good start, friendly welcoming staff. Beer was nice and cold. Then the Arincini balls arrived, from a frozen packet via the supermarket methinks. Lamb ragu...more a mince with what looked like pasta but not sure it was. Pizza servings ok, eggplant pizza, if you looked hard enough, very thin slices. Fortunately we were tired, hungry and thirsty but pizza hut would have sufficed. Location does not mean good food, expensive.

The food was really bad; the spaghetti was completely undercooked. I ordered plain spaghetti with butter for my son, but there was way too much butter. Overall, going to this restaurant was a waste of money.

Visited restaurant in July waited 30 minutes just to be given a menu. Wasn’t asked if I wanted a drink whilst choosing something from the menu. Sat there a further 15 minutes. Gave up and walked out.

Super Nice service and good food

I think this place unfortunately deserves the rating it has. The staff for me were great especially our waiter. During August I also give staff some extra leeway as it's a super busy period so they'll be tired as well. Now to the food. Concept is interesting but for the portion sizes and quality unfortunately it's overpriced. I don't think you can charge 10 pounds for an 8 inch when you can get a 12 inch for the same price. Additionally the pasta dishes are quite expensive in relation to flavor and portion size. Probably a few tweaks here and there will help this place

I’ve held off writing my review as I lodged a complaint with the operations manager of Viva Italia group who own this restaurant in Glasgow. I wanted to give them a fair chance to acknowledge and rectify their issues. Despite acknowledging my original email he has declined to correspond any further, so I feel I must leave a negative review. We dined here as a family on Mother’s Day. One of our party has a few food allergies, which we had advised the restaurant of at the time of booking. To cut a long story short, the assistant manager of this restaurant has no idea how to deal with customers with a restricted diet. He thinks he does, as he quite eloquently explained how nut allergies worked to us. They were also cooking all the pasta in the the same pasta cooker, egg pasta, gluten free and vegan all in the same water! This was advised by the assistant manager himself. The food that was edible was mediocre at best, far better Italian restaurants in Glasgow who can handle restricted diets with confidence and without any fuss or drama. I did lodge a complaint with Environmental Health who paid the restaurant a visit. The officer was not happy with the restaurant and left them with compliance issues to rectify, scheduling another visit within 2 weeks.

Poor service and overpriced food. All plates arrived simultaneously and got cold very quickly. This concept would benefit from food heaters on each table.

The food and service are both really nice. I saw the Google review here and wasn't a bit concerned but it turns out that this place is actually very nice. Would love to go there again.

It's a nice setting, decent sized restaurant that looks nice inside with comfy seating. The food was served fast but was just ok, nothing special but no real complaints. The staff were great, cocktails and beers were ok

I saw this restaurant on TikTok and I’m really glad we came here. For pizza and pasta lovers, this is the perfect place. I ordered pistachio ravioli and tomato spaghetti. My sister got the same spaghetti and a pizza which was amazing. Definitely recommend 2-3 plates per person. I got two and it was perfect. Not too busy in the restaurant either and we had a nice table at the window. It was just over £40 for 4 plates of food and two drinks. Staff were very efficient and friendly. I also had the Velo Radley blood orange lager (brewed in nearby Glasgow ♥️) and it was really good. I would order it again. The pasta was fresh and very tasty. A great lunch. Would highly recommend for fast, fresh pasta or pizza.

The portions are small. They told us upfront. The prices are imho too hogh for the portion sizes. The amatriciana was good, the pizza too. The porchetta was no authentic porchette but some thin slices of commercial cooked ham with no crunchy skin whatsoever

Portions are too small. The pizzas were tasteless. There's nothing Italian about this food. Lidl pizzas taste way better. Food is overpriced. The only good thing was that it was amazing and attentive staff. Never coming back.

Great place for a drink and breakfast or lunch with family and friends

Went today (14/08/2024) for early evening meal and as it was my first time eating here I didn’t know what to expect. I knew it was small plate restaurant but honestly I really enjoyed the whole experience at Assagginis. The minute we walked in we were met by a very friendly member of staff who showed us at the table. Within a very short time another member of staff came and offered us drinks which were delivered in no time . Food order followed shortly after the drinks arrived and we were explained that the recommendation was to order 2 or 3 small plates and that the food would arrive as and when it was ready. But within a very short time food arrived and very quickly the order was completed for 5 of us who ordered 3 plates per person. Food was amazing, full of flavours and because we ordered 3 plates each of different dishes gave us an opportunity to try a lot from the menu. Service through out remained professional and very friendly with staff taking their crime to speak to us. We left the restaurant very satisfied, full and feeling that that was a great value for money considering the great quality. Most definitely we will be back when next in Edinburgh.

We were in Edinburgh today and decided to dine at Assigini and had such a fantastic experience. It is beautifully decorated and love how it is set out. We were a party of five so sat in one of the booths but I also loved the look of the little tables for 2 which looked very romantic. The outside area was full as guests making the most of the sunny day. All of the staff were amazing and made sure we were very well looked after throughout our visit but extra praise for Orla who took our orders and took the time to explain the concept and ordering process(and had the patience of a saint waiting for all of our "can't decide, it all looks good" guests to finally give their food orders).The food was absolutely delicious and everyone commented on how tasty every dish was. This restaurant was perfect for all of us as I struggle to eat very much so had 1 plate whilst the hungrier members of the group ordered up to 6 plates. I love that it caters for every appetite as I am usually so limited when I go to eat out(to the point I try my best to avoid dining out in the evening) A big thank you to all of the staff who were exceptional. This will definitely be our go too restaurant when ever we visit Edinburgh.

We had a group of 8. Menu & delivery expectations were well explained. Quality of food exceeded expectations (small plates pizza & pasta). Travelling with an infant, we were seated away from the general population, but didn't feel neglected. Best meal we had on our short trip through Europe.

Very welcoming service from Charlotte. Food was delicious, and manager Daniel very friendly and keen to ensure we enjoyed the restaurant.

terrible service, it is not clear what Italian cuisine is, the pasta was not "al dente", it was raw. Little punctuality in the service of dishes, so much difference between the diners themselves. if you go with more than two people you cannot eat at a time, the portions are small and not the whole menu is available, like salads for example, there is only 1 of the 4 options.

What a great find Edinburgh City centre Mon -Thurs until 6pm all pasta and pizza are £6.00 each for smaller plates. 2 of us, we had a pizza and 2 pasta dishes and cheesecake it all tasted delicious. Will definitely go back and will recommend to friends bargain !! 😁

I liked the concept of smaller plate sizes. We ordered two pizzas and one pasta between two of us. Pizza good, pasta carbonara really disappointing and bland. Tiramisu absolutely disappointed with, was essentially thick vanilla cream with dry sponge. Even the cocktails were meh.. they only had can options for the beers we ordered. Then add a 10% charge for basic service. I think it was expensive considering. Didn’t enjoy the fruit flies that eventually hovered and sat on the tiramisu.

We tried this Italian restaurant today, attracted by their small plates and sharing concept. The warm welcome and excellent hospitality stood out. The food was outstanding, with dishes arriving at just the right time. The cocktails were superb, and we wrapped up our meal with fantastic tiramisu and cheesecake. Overall, it's the best Italian spot to hang out and unwind.

Lovely restaurant in the city centre with a tapas concept for Italian food. We loved the idea as we could get a mix of pasta and pizzas! Staff were friendly and food was great!

Actually the best pasta I've ever had. Fast service too, I arrived a few minutes after opening and they made my food in just 10 minutes.

This restaurant is shameful. When we arrived, they sat us down, looked at the menu, and took our order. Afterwards, we waited a long time until a waitress told us that they had lost the order and that they would bring us the dishes in 5 minutes; More like 20. Then they brought us two of the 6 dishes and then another two. We had already been in the restaurant for about an hour. Then they told us again that the rest was going to be nothing because we had priority and I don't know what. But they brought out plates and plates but none of them were ours. In the end we had to leave without eating at all. Regarding the food we were able to eat, it was a bit bad. The service was terrible because there was a waitress who was very nervous, another waitress did everything and the boss acted crazy. The excuse that they had lost the order was a lie. If they had lost it, they would not have taken out any dishes; Furthermore, we didn't have any priority, unlike what they said, because they kept taking out plates for other people. The only good thing is that it wasn't very expensive.

This is our first meal in Edinburgh. WOW. My wife could not have picked a better restaurant. Assaggini’s new menu is outstanding. Everything is fresh AND made to order. Had the BEST beef ravioli, rice balls and pizza. The staff (Attila, Manoj and Harriet) made us feel very welcome. We are going back.

The food was served to us very late and not complete. What they served was inedible, salty and the pasta was hard. The staff was disgraceful, there were two girls who didn't know anything and a boy who looked like the boss who was trying to trick you by telling me that our dishes were a priority and they never arrived A shame Never to return

Was looking for somewhere to rest and a bite to eat before my flight. The staff were really accommodating and food was amazing, small portions but reasonably priced. Definitely would recommend to others.

They have a £6 per pizza and pasta till 6pm and it was the worst food I’ve ever eaten. The pasta was served in a plate and it was all over the plate. Pizza was under cooked and bad. Such a trap and waste of even £6

Been visiting Edinburgh for 4 days staying near Rose street. We found it overwhelming to find a restaurant to eat as there are way too many options here. Luckily, a friendly face stopped us to explain the menu, which was rather interesting... an Italian "tapas" restaurant. We quickly checked the reviews and were hesitant whether to try or not, but we are glad that we went back later for a late lunch. The service is faultless, the staff went out their way with everyone to ensure everyone felt welcomed and looked after. We had the carbonara, amatriciana and paccheri with a garlic focaccia and burrata salad. The food was the best Italian we had in Edinburgh. We didnt believe when we were told that the pasta is fresh, but it was!! And how delicious it was!!! Apparently it was a new menu launched just a couple of days before. It definetly worth a try!

Assaggini is a delightful Italian restaurant in Edinburgh that specializes in serving small portions, allowing patrons to sample a variety of dishes. During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of trying their Carbonara, Lamb Ragù, and Pizza Calambria. The staff were attentive and friendly, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. They were knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations.

Very small (overpriced) dishes. Has nothing to do with Italian cuisine. We had the pasta 2 with salmon and 4 carbonara. Neither is recommended as the sauces are more reminiscent of frozen dishes. We're really not foodies and rarely write a review, but this was really tasteless.

Very nice italian restaurant. We tried four small plates of pasta and all were delicious. Fries were not quite crispy enough but still tasted good. The service was very warm, and the staff were capable of serving in french, even if that was not necessary for us.

When I went in instinct said to leave but the family wanted to give it a try. Oooh my this has to be the worst italian food I've eaten. The carbonara was like peppery scrambled eggs with soggy spaghetti. My husband who never complains felt he had to complain. I got seafood spaghetti-it was chronic. If heinz did seafood pasta in a tin it would be a 1mil times better. The garlic foccacia was not foccacia at all -it was dry and hard. The waitress did offer to refund the meals and get us a replacement but we wanted to quit our losses and get out. The male manager I'm assuming- had a lousy attitude-he certainly shouldn't be in a service role with his attitude. He was berating the waitress for trying to rectify the situation and even gave a sarcastic comment as we left. We've never complained about food but had to as it was vile. Wished we had gone to Greg's.

All I can simply say is do not go here. The carbonara was scrambled, the Cacio e pepe tasted like washing up liquid. I’m assuming they used out of date microwave meals as I don’t know how else you can mess up simple dishes

Really enjoyed the food, service and negroni. Saw people walk in and walk out. Give them a chance , it’s good food!

Enjoyed the food and new concept( to me) of Italian "tapas" dishes. Although staff were friendly and polite,the service was a shambles! Seemed there was no structure to who did what, they didnt appear to listen as in we had to ask for water a few times after them taking note in initial order. Difficult to get their attention like they avoided this. The right hand didnt know what the left was doing. Wont rush back

Good quick stop. Pizza is personal size, a little undercooked but good flavor, light on toppings. Have something called “focaccia” it definitely isn’t focaccia but it had great flavor and a nice pull apart fried airier version of pita.

If you want a bit of good Italy in Edinburgh, this is the right place. Welcoming atmosphere, excellent cuisine and above all the kindness and friendliness of the manager make you feel at home! A true example of Italians abroad who make the whole of Italy look good. Well done!

Absolutely horrific. Pretty sure the pizza came from the freezer and the waitress was rude and not friendly. Save your money and go elsewhere.

A fantastic establishment, Orla, who served us was, quite frankly, the pinnacle of hospitality and likely the most wonderful human being I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in my life.

Very nice place like the waiter! Small portions of food don't hurt because you can choose several things to eat! Calm and cozy atmosphere. Very good experience, definitely worth trying.

Had an initial "won't get served soon vibe on entrance" and did then take ten minutes to have a drink order taken. Everything after that was great with amazing high quality food served by a friendly waiter. Everyone in the group thoroughly enjoyed their meal and would recommend.
