Booked our Over60s group for Fish teas and ice creams. 32 of us were overwhelmed by the service and food we had. Definitely best fish and chips . The owners and staff were fantastic. As for the ice creams from cones, tubs, snowball ices and of course the knickerbocker glories Thanks for your service 🙏

We wandered into this chip shop by accident only to discover it will be 150 (!) years old next year. Which means they are doing something right. And in this case, about the best fish and hips I've ever had, light and grease free and, well, HUGE. My son had the blood sausage and chips and said it was about the best blood sausage he'd ever had, and he's spent five summers in the UK. And the family running the place is friendly and chatty and the prices are insanely reasonable. When in the SE quadrant of central Glasgow, downhil from the cathedral, this is the place to go...

Service was awesome, guys working there were really cool, we went on Wednesday 24th July about 2.30 for some chips and juice. Older guy behind the counter was so smiley and friendly, and even let us try their ice cream from the machine- was delicious! Really cool layout feels like you’re in a Time Machine, love the booths you sit in, music was awesome too. Thanks for a great experience, we’ll be back.

Found this spot close to our hotel on our first night in Glasgow. We spoke with the owner in the afternoon and couldn’t wait to come back for dinner. Everything was just as he promised but even better! The freshly cooked haddock portions were a great size and we couldn’t eat all of the chips. His prices are by far the best around. A waitress from the pub next door told us to bring our food into the pub and enjoy it along with a pint and their live music, so we did just that! We’ll be back to try the ice cream before we leave Glasgow!

Visited with my family and was a bit unsure at first however we were hungry. Stepping inside is a blast from the past. However, everything is clean and obviously well cared for. We were served quickly, the portions are a good size and the prices very reasonable. They couldn’t do enough for you - bringing over extra sauces and napkins without us asking. I would absolutely visit again without hesitation.

Came across this place yesterday! Was just closing up but owner asked us to sit down and he made us fish & chips to take away from scratch! And threw in a free fritter! We were talking to the owner, his family’s been there since the 1930s. Original furniture from the 40s & 50s! Definitely be back. Food was great. Big portions & cheap! £4.50 for a fish supper 👏👏👏

I just happened to come across this place as I was walking around Glasgow. The vintage style of the outside attracted me but the untouched interior made this even more of a gem. The owner was great to talk to and the food delicious and not the top-of-the-range price you would have expected to pay to visit somewhere this charming in London. The neon sign says "Home of the Great Glasgow Fish Tea" but make sure you try the ice-cream as well. Amazing place, definitely worth a visit!

I've tried a fish and chips in different parts of Glasgow and Val D'oro is definitely the best one. Fish is fresh as a daisy the butter is crispie the way should be and chips are delicious! We paid(sit in)for 2 huge portions of fish and chips plus bread and butter and tea only £14. The place is a bit old fashioned and that's why I love it.We'll be back definitely.

I went in to ask the difference in price for a single special fish eat in or take away. My question was not well received by the son. He quoted me £5.50 I pointed out that this was the take away price. He fact decided to quote me for a small fish and not a normal. When I tried to clarify this, he mumbled he has to wash the plates. Then told me to go somewhere else. I thanked him for his Glasgow hospitality and left. I had returned because a few weeks ago I had bought a single special to eat on my way to where I was staying. It was a very well cooked fish. I will never ever be back and would definitely not recommend. I feel sorry for the father.

Traditional, simple. definitely old fashioned and un-trendy - but this is probably one of the best old chippies in Glasgow's East End. Formica tables, old photos and posters on the walls, basic menu, efficient service and excellent value. Don't come here looking for a gourmet experience - just have your Fish Tea and pretend you are back in the 1960sx.

Food was very tasty, excellent value and loved the old style original features and fittings! The two men running it, possibly father and son, were naturally hospitable - chatty to everyone in a way that chain restaurants try to train their staff to be. To be honest excellent value and tasty food doesn’t scratch the surface of describing what a gem this place is. If you have room for ice cream at the end you are also in for a treat!

Found this place by accident and what a find. It's like going back in time. We had a small fish tea. The fish was sooo fresh and the batter was light. All very tasty. The owner was very friendly gave us Information about a local theatre as well as the history of the chip shop. Although it is a snug fit at the tables it is well worth a visit for the authenticity of the place. Will be back next time I'm in Glasgow.

I visited this historic fish and chip restaurant on a recent trip home to Glasgow. It was a lovely old fashioned experience. My 81 year old dad, used to come here with our mum, so was delighted to go back. We were warmly welcomed, the owner was very friendly. Food was lovely and very good value for money. Only downside was benches were a bit close together, but we realise this is part of the old fashioned charm. Fish, chips, tea, bread and butter for £7.50! We will def be back 😊

Was in Glasgow Saturday night stumbled across football parade which was at Glasgow cross area which I didn't know it was on anyway my wife went into cafe for 2 sausage suppers to takeaway which to be fair were really nice on nearly completion of my food my wife said £10 for 2 sausage suppers was a bit steep agreed . The reason I am writing this is that your normal price at any given time is £4 know it's only £2 of a difference but that's a bit naughty because of a football parade want be getting my custom again

Loved this place. Over the years have been in and out of here, but not regularly. Only recently though have I realised how much I like the place and memories I have of it. It really is not that different from similiar type places in west end in terms of decor and type of place it is, but I don't feel Val D'oro gets the same attention purely due to where it is located.

Got to be the worst chippy I've ever been unfortunate enough to eat in. Food was absolutely rotten and most of it went in the bin. I've seen more meat on a chicken wing than what I got with the chicken "breast" supper. I think they had been just re frying the fritters that hadn't been sold on previous days as they were absolutely rock solid and definitely not fresh! The inside of the place could also do with a serious deep clean and a refurb as it's like stepping back in time! Seriously avoid!

£2.90 for a bottle of water - Are you kidding? We went for 2 x breakfast rolls (one was a doubler/the other was a tripler), didn’t inform us that the menu we were looking at was takeaway prices only until we were leaving. The sit in menu doesn’t even have the cost of the tripler roll on it when I asked to double check the price. £15.80 for two breakfast rolls & one bottle of water is absolutely outrageous pricing. There are much better local options with a reasonable price attached to them!
