Cullen skunk was watery with hardly any fish. You'd think in a restaurant of it's calibre the chef would check what goes out. Saying that they didn't charge me for it but that's not the point. Main course of vegetarian haggis didn't have the spice of haggis which is added to meat, so why can't they add the spices/pepper to the vegetarian version. Desert was nice but I won't go again. Shame really as it's a lovely place

Always a good experience when you eat here.

We visited for a very late lunch on a tuesday afternoon. From the moment you walk inside to the moment you leave, you will have a fabulous dining experience - true hospitality at it's finest! The greeting was warm and welcoming from an impeccably clad host. We were a little early so we were invited to sit and order a drink from a well thought out menu. The table set up, decor and ambience is delightful - slightly whimsical and nostalgic in places. A lot of attention to detail and thoughtfulness has gone into the design and layout of the restaurant. The menu's are well thought out and showcase the best of Scottish fayre. Salmon Gravlax was delicious, lightly cured so as not to mask the quality of the salmon. Pork Belly was soft and full of flavour. Chicken & Haggis was very well executed, the haggis stuffed inside the chicken breast and roasted to perfection. Sea Bream and Prawn was a plate full of fishy heaven! An excellent bottle of Viognier complemented each dish. We will definitely visit again when we are next in Glasgow!

The portion is very reasonable and the interior is well-decorated.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to dine at The Buttery as they were fully booked on our preferred date – but the communication beforehand was so positive that I still wanted to leave a review. Andrew was incredibly kind, helpful, and showed great care in responding to our request. If the food is as good as the service we experienced, The Buttery definitely deserves five stars. Hopefully, it will work out another time!

Fabulosa comida en un edificio maravilloso, con carácter. No es el lugar más obvio al estar algo alejado de las principales zonas de comida en Glasgow, pero vale la pena el esfuerzo para llegar allí - y hay un aparcamiento justo al lado. Muy útil. Desde fuera, el edificio parece poco acogedor, pero mi palabra cuando entras por la puerta entras en otro mundo, de alguna manera retrocedido en el tiempo. Es un escenario fabuloso para una gran comida. El personal era todo encantador pero particular gracias a Chloe, nuestra camarera, que era excelente. El servicio en general fue excelente y el comienzo llegó tan rápido, pero eso no significó una pérdida de calidad. Todo lo que comimos, con una excepción, era delicioso y muy bien presentado. Tomé el entrante de cerdo y langostino seguido del venado y mi esposa tomó el salmón ahumado y luego el fletán y la vieira en una salsa de bisque de langosta. ¡Estábamos en el cielo! Helen dice que el martini de manzana y flor de saúco fue uno de los mejores cócteles que ha tomado. Tristemente el postre fue donde sentimos la única decepción. Helen ordenó el pannacotta de coco, que estaba bellamente presentado pero francamente no comestible. Si usted debe tratar de hacer una pannacotta vegana, al menos también tenga una pannacotta real (es decir, establecida con gelatina no alternativa vegana) en el menú - no obligue a todos a comer la opción vegana! Simplemente no sabe bien (algunos pudines veganos son deliciosos, pero lamentablemente no este). This place really hit the ball out of the park for me. Absolutely brilliant evening. The design of the interior really creates a unique atmosphere that adds to a whole experience. From arrival to departure the whole dinner was just perfect, service was smooth and the food was out of this world. Really appreciated one of the guys there helping us with bar recommendations as we were leaving. He even walked us down the road to give us a better sense of direction. Thank you so much for an amazing evening!

dined with my partner for our anniversary. we had scallops (highly recommended by jade), soup of the day, chicken and haggis, and veggie haggis. everything was delicious and very filling and the staff were so so lovely. chloe even brought us a little anniversary gift as we were leaving, so big thanks to her and the rest of the staff.

Reservado en línea y a la llegada al hermoso restaurante, nuestros abrigos fueron llevados y nos mostraron a nuestra mesa, y dado una breve lección de historia sobre el restaurante, que ahora entendemos por qué se encuentra donde está - tiene todo el sentido. Elegimos un par de cócteles especiales para el día de las madres, hechos por el famoso barman que está en Instagram. Elegimos el conjunto de comida de 3 platos - cada plato era absolutamente impresionante y de calidad fantástica. Recibimos un gran servicio de todo el personal, el ambiente era relajado y amable y solo un restaurante realmente hermoso. Gracias a todos, sin duda volveremos cuando visitemos Glasgow de nuevo.

We enjoyed a nice dinner here. The staff were excellent, warm and friendly. Even made me feel ok about trying to leave via the wrong door.

Delicious food, friendly and helpful service, amazing cocktails and wine, and beautiful decor. This restaurant has been here as long as I can remember so it's obviously doing something right!! A must visit!

A restaurant that's existed on the same site for many decades & consistently serves a fabulous Scottish menu containing quality ingredients well cooked & presented, by very good staff. I can thoroughly recommend their Cullen Skink soup and my other half had halibut with scallops as a main which she said was delicious 😋. I had beef which was a large portion and very good. I ordered their triple cooked chips which were great and sufficient to share. There are nods to more recent tastes but all fit carefully with their underlying ethic, top marks!

What delightful experience! The Buttery has an old world charm combined with a wonderful choice of dishes from firm Scottish favourites to great vegetarian/vegan options. And the service was exemplary with just the right mixture of cheerful professionalism. Altogether, value in every way and we can't wait ti visit again.

Elegant service of delicious food in atmospheric dining rooms with dark wood panelling. We’ve been here a few times and it never disappoints whether dining with friends, or looking for a romantic evening together. Cullen skink was beautifully presented and the Chicken Stuffed with Haggis & a Whisky sauce was tender and flavourful, the side order of Carrots with Almonds and Maple glaze was outstandingly good.

What can I say, it was a superb meal. I ate with a group of seven friends and had a comfortable dinner -- excellent food -- and an easy time talking with others.

Un paso atrás en el tiempo... Qué maravilloso restaurante. Una joya escondida en el corazón de la ciudad. Dos de nosotros nos fuimos a buscar primos. Nos recomendaron el restaurante y chico no decepcionó. Desde el momento en que entramos salimos especiales. Nos dieron la bienvenida en el restaurante y tuvimos bebidas en los sillones Grand. Eran alrededor de las 4 de la tarde de un domingo después de una caminata de 10 millas estábamos listos para el almuerzo. Todo era casero y único. El restaurante era originalmente un viejo pub, si las paredes podían hablar. El restaurante es el más antiguo de Glasgow lleno de historia. Paneles de madera por todas partes. Nuestra mesa estaba en la esquina del restaurante con iluminación ambiental. Un pollo de latón se colocó en la mesa para la decoración - lindo. Bonita mesa cuadrada con mantel blanco y servilletas. Nos encantó la vidriera en las puertas y alrededor del restaurante. Un verdadero paso atrás en el tiempo. Teníamos vino y agua, buen menú de vinos. El menú era variado y atendido a todos. Nos sirvieron pan casero y mantequilla deliciosa. Para empezar habíamos ahumado gravalax de salmón que no decepcionó. Probamos el Cullen Skink en una taza de porcelana - toque encantador y muy delicioso. Para el plato principal, tenía el pescado Coley y mi primo tenía la carne de res. Ambos estaban muy sabrosos y un lado de zanahorias. Porción generosa, fresca y sabrosa. Estábamos demasiado llenos para el postre. Los postres se veían fabulosos. Sin embargo, tuvimos té de menta y sabrosos petit fours. Nos hicieron sentir muy especiales. Todo estaba muy bien presentado. Nada demasiado problema para el personal, eran tan cálidos y amables. Recomiendo encarecidamente cenar en el Buttery. Fue una comida especial. Uno que no olvidaremos. Una joya tan escondida, visita si tienes la oportunidad.

I first went to two fat ladies when it was on Dumbarton road with my husband. The Buttery with girlfriends for my retirement in 2018 and again last week for my birthday treat with my husband. Just loved it all. ❤️ And like things couldn't get better I saw it's on Itison..... Buy it you'll be thrilled you did!

Absolute treat,no question. From the first moment on entry, we were treated to a most enjoyable experience. Mark the sommelier, excellent at his job and that man knows his wine. Matthew , our server couldn't have been more attentive and was very freindly he has an excellent manner with customers a definate asset to the buisness.As for the food , couldn't fault it. Portions are generous and beautifully presented, and hot.Once you've tried this experience , you will definitely want to return.

Great staff. Great food! Gorgeous setting! I had the Cullen skink soup followed by the steak and it was cooked to perfection!

Service was brilliant, properly professional hospitality. Our servers were so lovely and helpful, catered to anything we asked. The interior was really cosy and I enjoyed the music and seating. They also brought out some tablet and chocolate for free as it was my partner’s birthday which was unexpected and kind. The only disappointment was the food! I had a whiskey sour cocktail which I didn’t enjoy, but won’t hold that against The Buttery, it was my taste. For starters we had the fig salad, and the scallop dish. The scallops were nice but the sauce didn’t have much flavour to it. The fig dish for me didn’t get the textures right. Following that I had the halibut for main. This was a big disappointment… the fish was dry, the sauce wasn’t nice, the potatoes were abundant and flavourless. The presentation left a lot to be desired particularly on the mains. Everything was stacked up with the sauce poured freely. I would maybe return based on the great service, maybe I caught the kitchen on a bad day. But for the price as well the food didn’t do it for me.

This was a wonderful dining experience. The staff hit the perfect balance of formal and friendly, the menu was small but well designed and had something for everyone In particular our kids were made very welcome which made the whole meal very enjoyable!

I thought that this was going to be a five star review after the first two courses (which were wonderful) but there was a real drop-off in quality with the desserts. The Panna Cotta was over gelatinised and didn't move. The creme brulee was completely liquid. At this price range there are better and more accessible dining options in Glasgow.

The staff are super friendly and professional. Which makes the atmosphere. Gluten free friendly and even have a kids menu. Feel I made the wrong choice picking two curried dishes when wanting the Scottish fix but was in the mood for fish and both came with curry.

I attended the Buttery a few days ago and was extremely unwell that very same evening and the days that followed. I ordered the Halibut but it was less than average. Emailed them to let them about my sickness however not received the courtesy of a response. Will definitely not be going back.

Visited for the second time . Food is superb although main course portion not enough and really have to get a side . £40 for a steak which only has a small potato terrine with it is mean , very mean . Have to question £18 for 3 scallops too . Hope they take this onboard . Well that’s the downside out the way , otherwise it is a tremendous dining experience and the service is superb . Really great place to sit in and we will return despite the previous negativity .

An excellent meal around Christmas, with none of the usual shortcuts used by far too many other restaurateurs at this time of year. Excellent food and wine, with very attentive but not intrusive service and a great relaxing vibe. The overall price was also very modest for this outstanding meal.

A cozy yet elegant atmosphere. The Beef & Mushroom was a rich and flavorful dish that set the tone for the rest of the meal. Absolutely perfect way to celebrate the last night of our first visit to Glasgow. From the ambience to the delicious food to the friendly, professional service, we had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful culinary experience with a Scottish twist.

As repeat visitors to the Buttery (sixth visit, third time this year) we looked forward to our meal, this time with a voucher. Whilst the food was up to the usual standard - Cullen skink fantastic as ever, likewise the scallops, and the festive turkey dish was first rate - the experience was a real let-down thanks to service with an attitude. Our waiter was arrogant, offered zero attentiveness and appeared completely disinterested. All of which culminated in him bringing the desert menu (eventually, after a prolonged wait) and slapping them down on the table with a comment of “I suppose you’ll want to see these as you have a voucher”. My wife mentioned this to another waiter who couldn’t have been nicer and who looked after us for the rest of the meal. Kudos for him for stepping in, he was a credit to the Buttery and very much in keeping with what we’d expect from them. Overall though, a very disappointing experience and I very much doubt we’ll go back.

If only I could give more than 5 stars. Top-notch food and service, and the coziest dining room ever.

Having been a few months ago and raving about it, my wife booked it for us on a Saturday in December so we could have a weekend taking in the run up to Christmas in Glasgow. This place is set in what appears to be a slightly run-down part of the outskirts of the city. However, when you enter, it is like going into an oasis with its well-appointed oldie worldy feel. We were welcomed by the maitr'd who showed us to our table promptly. The atmosphere was buzzing even though it was quite early in the evening. The drinks order was taken and drinks delivered whilst we perused the menu to decide our food choices. We had some olives to start. I decided whilst in Scotland I had to have some haggis, so I chose the chicken with haggis, which was amazing. The haggis providing some amazing tastes and complimenting the chicken, which was succulent. My wife chose turkey ballotine, which she said was amazing and just like a Christmas dinner. Sadly, we were too full to try a dessert, so that means we will have to go back (that will not be a hardship). Thanks to our waitress who was very friendly and attentive. Well worth a visit for good food and atmosphere.

Lovely lunch, almost a throwback to afternoon tea with your granny. Quaint surroundings. Fantastic Cullen Skink - the best I’ve ever had. The coley was superb too. However my wife wasn’t too keen on her sea bream - not a fan of the sauce! Would happily recommend
