We enjoyed a nice dinner here. The staff were excellent, warm and friendly. Even made me feel ok about trying to leave via the wrong door.

Delicious food, friendly and helpful service, amazing cocktails and wine, and beautiful decor. This restaurant has been here as long as I can remember so it's obviously doing something right!! A must visit!

A restaurant that's existed on the same site for many decades & consistently serves a fabulous Scottish menu containing quality ingredients well cooked & presented, by very good staff. I can thoroughly recommend their Cullen Skink soup and my other half had halibut with scallops as a main which she said was delicious 😋. I had beef which was a large portion and very good. I ordered their triple cooked chips which were great and sufficient to share. There are nods to more recent tastes but all fit carefully with their underlying ethic, top marks!

What delightful experience! The Buttery has an old world charm combined with a wonderful choice of dishes from firm Scottish favourites to great vegetarian/vegan options. And the service was exemplary with just the right mixture of cheerful professionalism. Altogether, value in every way and we can't wait ti visit again.

Elegant service of delicious food in atmospheric dining rooms with dark wood panelling. We’ve been here a few times and it never disappoints whether dining with friends, or looking for a romantic evening together. Cullen skink was beautifully presented and the Chicken Stuffed with Haggis & a Whisky sauce was tender and flavourful, the side order of Carrots with Almonds and Maple glaze was outstandingly good.

What can I say, it was a superb meal. I ate with a group of seven friends and had a comfortable dinner -- excellent food -- and an easy time talking with others.

I first went to two fat ladies when it was on Dumbarton road with my husband. The Buttery with girlfriends for my retirement in 2018 and again last week for my birthday treat with my husband. Just loved it all. ❤️ And like things couldn't get better I saw it's on Itison..... Buy it you'll be thrilled you did!

Food very tasty. Service variable.. sometimes a little abrupt. Not sure if they were stressed? Starter forgotten for one guest but quickly rectified. Would return if I was in Glasgow. Surroundings are lovely and old worldy.

I'd heartily recommend The Buttery. The food was fabulous, the service wonderful and we had a lovely time. You could park right next door to the restaurant in their own car-park. I loved the fact that you could hear what people were saying, loved the real china tea cups and the AMAZING ice creams, well-priced cocktails and wine list. Thank you for a super afternoon.

Furnishings, ambience, menu, food and service were faultless - certainly ranking towards the top of all the restaurants we've visited round Britain. Absolute treat,no question. From the first moment on entry, we were treated to a most enjoyable experience. Mark the sommelier, excellent at his job and that man knows his wine. Matthew , our server couldn't have been more attentive and was very freindly he has an excellent manner with customers a definate asset to the buisness.As for the food , couldn't fault it. Portions are generous and beautifully presented, and hot.Once you've tried this experience , you will definitely want to return.

Great staff. Great food! Gorgeous setting! I had the Cullen skink soup followed by the steak and it was cooked to perfection!

Service was brilliant, properly professional hospitality. Our servers were so lovely and helpful, catered to anything we asked. The interior was really cosy and I enjoyed the music and seating. They also brought out some tablet and chocolate for free as it was my partner’s birthday which was unexpected and kind. The only disappointment was the food! I had a whiskey sour cocktail which I didn’t enjoy, but won’t hold that against The Buttery, it was my taste. For starters we had the fig salad, and the scallop dish. The scallops were nice but the sauce didn’t have much flavour to it. The fig dish for me didn’t get the textures right. Following that I had the halibut for main. This was a big disappointment… the fish was dry, the sauce wasn’t nice, the potatoes were abundant and flavourless. The presentation left a lot to be desired particularly on the mains. Everything was stacked up with the sauce poured freely. I would maybe return based on the great service, maybe I caught the kitchen on a bad day. But for the price as well the food didn’t do it for me.

This was a wonderful dining experience. The staff hit the perfect balance of formal and friendly, the menu was small but well designed and had something for everyone In particular our kids were made very welcome which made the whole meal very enjoyable!

I thought that this was going to be a five star review after the first two courses (which were wonderful) but there was a real drop-off in quality with the desserts. The Panna Cotta was over gelatinised and didn't move. The creme brulee was completely liquid. At this price range there are better and more accessible dining options in Glasgow.

The staff are super friendly and professional. Which makes the atmosphere. Gluten free friendly and even have a kids menu. Feel I made the wrong choice picking two curried dishes when wanting the Scottish fix but was in the mood for fish and both came with curry.

I attended the Buttery a few days ago and was extremely unwell that very same evening and the days that followed. I ordered the Halibut but it was less than average. Emailed them to let them about my sickness however not received the courtesy of a response. Will definitely not be going back.

This was my first time at The Buttery and it won’t be my last! Wonderful staff who were attentive and friendly. Food was delicious as was the wine. A lovely way to spend some time with family at Christmas. Thank you for a great experience.

Very nice place to relax and share a meal with friends. A great atmosphere and quality food which slips a little pre-Christmas but is usually bang on.

Visited for the second time . Food is superb although main course portion not enough and really have to get a side . £40 for a steak which only has a small potato terrine with it is mean , very mean . Have to question £18 for 3 scallops too . Hope they take this onboard . Well that’s the downside out the way , otherwise it is a tremendous dining experience and the service is superb . Really great place to sit in and we will return despite the previous negativity .

An excellent meal around Christmas, with none of the usual shortcuts used by far too many other restaurateurs at this time of year. Excellent food and wine, with very attentive but not intrusive service and a great relaxing vibe. The overall price was also very modest for this outstanding meal.

A cozy yet elegant atmosphere. The Beef & Mushroom was a rich and flavorful dish that set the tone for the rest of the meal. The Highland Venison was tender and perfectly cooked, offering a delicious flavor. The Gingerbread Cheesecake was the perfect end to the meal. The service was excellent, with attentive staff who made the experience even better. Overall, a fantastic spot for anyone looking for top-notch food in a welcoming setting.

Absolutely perfect way to celebrate the last night of our first visit to Glasgow. From the ambience to the delicious food to the friendly, professional service, we had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful culinary experience with a Scottish twist.

If only I could give more than 5 stars. Top-notch food and service, and the coziest dining room ever.

As repeat visitors to the Buttery (sixth visit, third time this year) we looked forward to our meal, this time with a voucher. Whilst the food was up to the usual standard - Cullen skink fantastic as ever, likewise the scallops, and the festive turkey dish was first rate - the experience was a real let-down thanks to service with an attitude. Our waiter was arrogant, offered zero attentiveness and appeared completely disinterested. All of which culminated in him bringing the desert menu (eventually, after a prolonged wait) and slapping them down on the table with a comment of “I suppose you’ll want to see these as you have a voucher”. My wife mentioned this to another waiter who couldn’t have been nicer and who looked after us for the rest of the meal. Kudos for him for stepping in, he was a credit to the Buttery and very much in keeping with what we’d expect from them. Overall though, a very disappointing experience and I very much doubt we’ll go back.

Gorgeous restaurant superb food, cozy ambience and attentive service.

Having been a few months ago and raving about it, my wife booked it for us on a Saturday in December so we could have a weekend taking in the run up to Christmas in Glasgow. This place is set in what appears to be a slightly run-down part of the outskirts of the city. However, when you enter, it is like going into an oasis with its well-appointed oldie worldy feel. We were welcomed by the maitr'd who showed us to our table promptly. The atmosphere was buzzing even though it was quite early in the evening. The drinks order was taken and drinks delivered whilst we perused the menu to decide our food choices. We had some olives to start. I decided whilst in Scotland I had to have some haggis, so I chose the chicken with haggis, which was amazing. The haggis providing some amazing tastes and complimenting the chicken, which was succulent. My wife chose turkey ballotine, which she said was amazing and just like a Christmas dinner. Sadly, we were too full to try a dessert, so that means we will have to go back (that will not be a hardship). Thanks to our waitress who was very friendly and attentive. Well worth a visit for good food and atmosphere.

Lovely lunch, almost a throwback to afternoon tea with your granny. Quaint surroundings. Fantastic Cullen Skink - the best I’ve ever had. The coley was superb too. However my wife wasn’t too keen on her sea bream - not a fan of the sauce! Would happily recommend

We had a fabulous lunch downstairs in the private dining room for a friend's special birthday celebration. The food was absolutely fantastic, perfectly cooked and delicious served by the most attentive and friendly staff. We can't praise the Buttery enough. It's our favourite, favourite restaurant. Absolutely fantastic authentic Scottish restaurant that hugs you in a traditional ambiance. The service and fayre are second to none. The best dining experience we have had in many years. We were a party of 8 family and friends visiting the Buttery for Sunday lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. I informed them in advance and they placed us in the Snug which was the ideal room as it enabled it to be suitably decorated for the occasion and made it feel special. Everyone was impressed with the friendly service and the quality and presentation of their dishes. I would like to thank all the staff who went out of their way to make it such a memorable occasion.

The lunch exceeded my expectations. The welcome and service were excellent. Serving staff were knowledgable and had bright personalities. The food was not cheap but very good. I especially liked the harissa and maple syrup bread with the Cullen Skink; the duck was perfect with a wonderful hazelnut crust and a superb sauce. The apple crumble was fine. We would return again for lunch

Lovely place. A pity the food didn't live up to expectations. Monk Fish was almost cold and overcooked. Sent it back. 2nd time was better but covered in spice. Other guests enjoyed their food. Service was good.

The atmosphere is wonderful, a real gem which was rightly full at lunch. The food is hearty and traditional and very fairly priced. There is a retro feel but nothing wrong with that. Lots of staff serving although at times they could be more alert to when guests are engaged in conversation and hold back from interrupting to take orders for instance. However there was a professional feel and the food quality was consistently good. Lovely decor and quirky china. Do however repair the large holes in the car park which risk your wheels!

The Buttery was a fantastic experience. The food was divine. From the start with Green Curry Bread on to Whisky cured salmon and highland venison, the meal was beautiful. My only complaint was the restaurant was very warm but that's my personal preference. The atmosphere was homey with dark wood, benches with pillows, stained glass, and tea cups on shelves. It was a wonderful experience dining there.

I expected better. Visited in September 2024. Bad luck, a disgusting smell when opening the door: for a restaurant that's not good enough. (may be outside work) Installed at the back of the restaurant. A very long wait time before being served (45 minutes). Scottish atmosphere, staff in kilts, woodwork… …Stained carpet on the floor (it doesn’t do that!). Dark place with dim light in broad daylight. Finally, the meal… Starter, main course: good, certainly, but nothing exceptional and really too little on the plate! The bread served at “THE” slice is frankly ordinary. In short, a meal that was ultimately quite expensive: I won't be returning..

A beautiful restaurant with a homey atmosphere...dark wood, shelves of China cups, stained glass. The service was excellent and friendly. The food was top-notch delicious, well prepared, and unique. Notable treats included Green Curry Bread, Highland Venison, Whisky Cured salmon... all delicious.

By far our best dining experience in Scotland. I don’t leave reviews often but this restaurant deserves it. All the food was incredible, and the service was delightful. Attentive but not hovering over you the way some fancy restaurants do. I wish I lived in Glasgow so I could go often!

I found the oldest restaurant in Glasgow completely accidentally, as I was walking around the city. The staff is amazingly professional and they looked after me. The food was proper fine dinning at very good prices. Highly recommended to anyone who is going to visit Glasgow! Last but not least try the whisky ice cream, it's very special!

First visit today to this lovely restaurant. Had a fab Big Birthday lunch x 6 in The Snug. The food was great; every staff member was friendly, attentive and efficient and the setting is gorgeous. Dining out as it should be. Would highly recommend. Update 19th September - visited again for a 60th Wedding Anniversary celebration and another great night. This is definitely our Number One choice in Glasgow from now on!

Cozy and comfortable restaurant. Especially beautiful dishes! The service is smooth and friendly. All the dishes were plentiful and tasty. Especially the monkfish was delicious. I recommend it, and you should reserve a table.

Absolutely fantastic meal to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Service was fantastic and a few extra touches due to our children phoning ahead to say it was a special occasion and paying towards our drinks. Highly recommend.

Love this place, it’s a place that’s always busy but yet seems a bit of a secret unless you live in Glasgow. Everytime I’ve been here I’ve left happy. On last visit we’d had the 4 course lunch deal. Waitress could tell we were on a lunch break and kept the pace up (!), we were going to skip the cheese course, but instead she offered to box it up! Love customer service like this.

The Buttery was our favorite meal during our trip to Scotland. The food was delicious. I took a chance and tried monkfish for the first time. It was so good and definitely something I would order on repeat. I also enjoyed the fig and feta appetizer. We also enjoyed the highland venison. The staff is wonderful and very attentive. Our waitress even brought out petit fours so we had a little something sweet, even though we were too stuffed for a full dessert. I would definitely eat here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting or living in Glasgow.

If you're pondering on whether to dine here, ponder no more and get it booked! A beautiful dining space. We came straight from the airport to here and it couldn't have been a better pit stop. The service was impeccable, thank you Toby for looking after us and making us feel so very relaxed and comfortable. We enjoyed gorgeous Old Fashioned and Manhattan cocktails made by Stephen to get us started. We picked the Cullen Skink and Fig & Feta dishes. As a first time trier of Cullen Skink I think I have probably been spoilt and imagine other versions will have a hard time trying to match the delicious flavours. And the caper dressing with the fig and feta was so yummy that my husband is going to try and make it at home. The veggie haggis dish was gorgeous and while we were struggling with full bellies we still managed a crème brulee each which was a perfect end to a perfect meal. The bonus - it was so lovely to chat to Stephen at the bar on the way out - really hope your career at The Buttery continues to be a huge success. We will definitely return on our next trip to Glasgow. Thank you.

Pure class. 4 course lunch with coffee and sweets to follow, all on a £69 it is on voucher. Food was delicious and service excellent. This was our second time and would recommend this for anyone who likes fine dining, done in style.

First visit to the Buttery in nearly over 40 years. Cuisine, service, atmosphere all excellent. We were concerned however as the car park which is on site and available to customers only is in terrible condition. If it belongs to the restaurant or not, it's guilt by association. With a little effort to remove the weeds, trim and replace the landscaping (at the front doors too) pick up rubbish and fix the potholes we wouldn't be so apprehensive about the arrival experience. Is the kitchen the same? Are the toilets the same? Thankfully not. But why give cause for concern.
