Friendly welcome. It looked like most diners had a voucher like us and that did not bother the Vaasu team a bit. Excellent service, delicious Royal Cosmopolitan. But the food... heaven. Beautifully presented, stunning flavours.

The staff are brilliant, friendly, helpful and on the ball. The food is beautifully presented, absolutely delicious and invites you to explore new flavours. This restaurant is unstated and I prefer over Sindu its sister restaurant. Sindu is great but Vaasu is 100% better all round. I went with my husband to celebrate my 40th and we had a wonderful time.

Just returned from a most enjoyable meal and lunch experience. 10/10 for attention to detail, presentation and quality of the food. A lovely setting, welcoming staff and probably one of the best Indian meals we have had - and we have been to many Indian restaurants. I can thoroughly recommend. Thank you.

Visited 17/10/24 and opted for the set lunch menu. Observations - table was sticky as if it hadn't been cleaned, mentioned this and was told nothing could be done, it was the cleaning agent. Main course nicely presented but at best lukewarm, and as my friend and I opted for the same main dish, tried to fob us off with just one rice and one accompaniment between us. Not a patch on our previous visit, time to up your game Vaasu.

Amazing food, great location and faultless service. Noted that the one star reviewers are mostly complaining about the cost, well you get what you pay for. If you want to pay £20.00 a person go to your local takeaway.

An amazing restaurant, blew us away with the quality of the fare and, for a recognisable (and Michelin starred) chef owned establishment, very reasonably priced. Opted for the tasting menu as this was our first visit. I also went for the wine pairing option. I have taken wine pairings for a few tadting menus over the years and I can confidently say this outstrips them all. I have never experienced such complementary pairings previously. From the sauvignon that brought out the spices of the bhaji course, the chardonnay that smoothed through the saltiness of the monkfish in pea puree, through the Indian red that matched and enhanced the lamb cutlet main to the dessert pairing that lifted the chocolate bombe dessert, all were perfectly matched. The food itself was a delight. Full of flavour mixed in concept but all linked to traditional and recognisable Indian cuisine and co.plimented by open, generous but not overbearing service, a truly outstanding evening out that I would highly recommend if you find yourself in the area.

I have never been in the restaurant itself but I have used the delivery service. Perfect, hot, on time, well prepared. As for the food, excellent pappadum, in fact three sorts with two marvellous chutneys, a special mention to the mango berry one. Very nice chicken shish kebab, excellent lamb biriani and an incredibly good dal makhani and also the original sag. Large quantities. Prices very correct for quantity and quality. Beware the delivery menu is different from the restaurant menu. I must try the restaurant itself !

We took advantage of a Travelzoo promotional voucher, 5-course meal for £25 per person which sounded extremely reasonable. We've visited all of Atul Kochar's restaurants over a few years and have enjoyed the food very much. This was a bit of a surprise though as most of the choices had large supplements to pay - +£14 for the lamb chops (3rd course) and +£8 each for the saag gosht and the prawn curry, and +6 for the chocolate bomb dessert. Add to that two gins at £10 each plus three tonics at £3.50 each, and our bill came to a FURTHER £86.13 on top of the £50 already paid, so a total of £136.13. Not a cheap lunch by any stretch and all in all the food was absolutely excellent and the staff friendly and attentive, sorry but it wasn't worth £136 quid. Yes, we COULD have spent just £50 just choosing the non-supplement choices and tap water, but if you saw the menu choices I think you'd agree that almost everyone will opt to pay at least one of the supplements. It was a lovely meal and the restaurant is beautifully decorated, but we left feeling rather as if we'd been cheated a bit. We won't be going back, and will probably pass by Kochar's restaurants in future as we just felt this offer was a sprat to catch a mackerel. I'd prefer to have paid £70 a head up front and be able to choose anything on the menu without supplements.

Had the 3 course set lunch-absolutely delicious. I personally had spiced scallops, malai kofta (with dal) and gulab jamun crème brûlée. Sure, the starters are small - but this makes you savour them more. The dal is one of the best I have ever had and the desert was sublime. Would recommend. Also, very good at advising re gluten free options.

We went for the a la carte menu as we didn’t fancy the main courses on offer on the set lunch. Had seared smoked scallops for starters - wonderful, but so they should be for £18! I had the halibut and my husband had the duck (very chewy) at £25 and £26 respectively. Didn’t order rice or naan bread as these were both extras. With a beer each this came to £111 including £12.50 service charge. Service was friendly and professional. Ambience good, but didn’t like the choice of music (disco heavy repetitive beat). Definitely overpriced so won’t be returning.

We visited Vaasu yesterday as a joint birthday and anniversary meal. We had been fortunate to dine at Benares many years ago where the food was incredible so were looking forward to our meal at Vaasu, especially both myself and especially my Husband are fans of Atul. I must admit I was anxious as having read some of the reviews, I was not quite sure what to expect, but we were not disappointed. We both went for the tasting menu, which is incredible reasonably priced considering Atul's reputation. Everything we ate was explained fully by the very courteous and professional staff and we loved every single course (especially the Tandoori salmon which was incredible) The food certainly was not bland and the quality of both the food and service were excellent. It was quiet in there, but it was a Wednesday night. The couple sat at the next table were also celebrating and enjoyed their food just as much as we did - we will certainly be back!

We had a £100 voucher but wanted to use it for a takeaway. They wouldn’t give us the change in another voucher had to spend it all or lose it! Poor! The food is no better than our local takeaway! The mixed vegetable side is most definitely a bag of frozen vegetables tossed in a sauce. This afternoon whilst passing the back of the restaurant they were delivering bags of pre chopped onion! A complete rip off! Stay away & dine in, or out, of a local Indian restaurant!

Visited on Easter Monday lunchtime. Offered a set menu at £35 for adults, £15 for kids - we were (at first) the only table in there. When the mains were delivered to the table, only my main (inc a daal and rice that was included with mains), a side dish that my husband ordered and the kids main was delivered- my husband received no plate and no main! No real explanation was given - we had to call someone over in the end as I’d nearly finished. When his main was eventually delivered, it transpired that we were meant to share the v small daal that I’d received (& nearly finished ) so we had to ask for more of that! (So my husband still didn’t have a complete meal in front of him for another while. Also, they bought more (plainer looking) rice - so was the rice that had already been delivered to the table not gluten free?? (My husband is a coeliac which we stated clearly) - no explanation of this was given either. All in all, it’s not a good experience if you can’t eat lunch together - that’s the whole point isn’t it?? They had clearly already decided that it wasn’t really up to scratch so removed the cost of the side and service charge. HOWEVER, when I looked at the Easter menu online later on, it transpired that that said that 2 side dishes were included in the £35 cost - so not a very generous or fair offer for a ruined lunch. I emailed and asked for a response a week ago - had an email saying they’d get back to me - but that was 5 days ago….

Reserved a table at Vaasu for an anniversary meal with my wife. Brilliant experience overall. The food - starters, an unexpected amuse bouche, mains and dessert - were all top-notch, matched only by the excellent service. What's really good about the menu is that it is split between their take on traditional Indian dishes and their (innovative) specials. We went with the latter - Ox cheeks with mustard mash, broccoli masala and marrow curry for me and a slow roast lamb rack with parsnip puree for the missus. It felt like a lot of thought had been put into every dish we had - eg combination of spices used to bring out the best in the food. Each dish was beautifully presented (some so colourful they jumped off the plate) and the flavours were spectacular. The staff were attentive, helpful (I asked for help pairing wines with my starter and main), very knowledgable - they take a lot of pride in their work. We were even treated to a bonus 'anniversary-themed' dessert which was a lovely touch. We'll definitely eat at Vaasu in future and we'll also be looking to try out some of Atul's other restaurants.

We had the ‘set lunch with a glass of wine’ menu. The wine, we opted for red, was light but a nice Sangiovese. Food - the food was excellent. We chose chicken tikka and mushroom patties, followed by lamb saag and then gulab jamun crème brûlée and panne cotta to finish. All food was easily enough for the two of us, was excellently prepared and beautifully presented. The only slight drawback was that neither rice nor bread was included and had to be ordered as an addition, just be aware of this - we ordered naan and it was nice. As an addition was also ordered black Dahl and this was delicious. Service - the service was excellent, attentive and friendly without being over-bearing, just how we like it. Restaurant - was nicely appointed without being ‘too much’. The location was in Marlow, a lovely small-ish town and very nice to walk around before or after the meal. There are two car parks near the restaurant but, at busy times, do arrive with a little bit of time to spare as finding a space can be tricky. All in all, a lovely experience and a delicious lunch. We will be back.

We went for a set lunch but beware it is full of suppliments to pay. The starter was so small it was hardly worth bothering with. One starter had undercooked chicken which had to be sent back. The soup is literally half a ladle full. All you get for the main in a small curry and some you have to pay a £6 suppliment on. There is no rice included that is all payable as a suppliment, the naan bred is only big enough for 1 and again is at a suppliment any small veg dishes again all at a suppliment, I did warn you it is full of suppliments. 😂The desserts are OK but again 2 out of the four come with a suppliment. Basically a rip off. The wine is overpriced, I get it is Marlow and has Atuls name attached to it but no reason to charge £40+ for a very average bottle of wine. I was surprised that on good Friday it was quite empty but now I understand why. Saying all of this the staff were friendly and the service was good but as I say not busy. Shall not be returning

I haf been wanting to eat here for so long! Our starters were delicious, we could taste each flavour popping on our tongue. Main courses were okay but nothing special. The chicken was slightly undercooked, with pink things here and there. However, respect given, the management removed the service charge from the bill. Despite this, we went for the set lunch, two course menu, priced at £21:50pp, final bill was £110 (without service charge, of course). And I mean, who would eat an Indian main course without rice or bread? Anyway rant over, positives and negatives, but I won't be going or recommending again. Sorry 😔

I am disappointed with the food, and customer service I received. Despite the service charge, I found the treatment I received from an older gentleman to be disrespectful and lacking basic courtesy. I believe that if a service charge is included, it’s essential to maintain a level of professionalism by using common courtesies such as please and thank you. Unfortunately, my evening was not up to the standard anyone would expect due to the poor food, disgusting service, and overpriced menu. Thank you for a poor evening.

Me and my husband had a 3 course voucher so we decided to use it on Valentine’s Day for lunch. Once we were seated we had a skim through the menu, and told them we had a voucher which meant we had already paid for a 3 course meal, the waiter told us some things wernt included in the price for eg. Drinks, Rice, naans, and other breads, or dal which was shocking because what exactly was included in the voucher, it didn’t leave us with much choice. Already it was a bad start, so then we ordered whatever we wanted and agreed to pay for any extras… when the starters arrived it was very underwhelming, the mushroom kebabs were two tiny pattys on a plate with no salad or yogurt or any form of presentation. The chicken had an awful aftertaste we didn’t enjoy it. Then when the mains came, they were even worse, absolutely bland food, I was shocked considering its supposed to be a top indian restaurant, there were no flavours or spices what so ever. The chicken korma was a joke, it was bright yellow and watery and it lacked in flavour. The service was terrible, nobody asked us if everything was ok with the meal, nobody was being attentive we had to keep raising our hands to call the waiters over in order to get their attention. We ended up leaving the mains as the food wasn’t tasty at all, we even asked if they had raita and the waiter looked confused so I repeated the word raita and he said no we don’t do that here, I said do u have any plain yoghurt instead? And he said “no we don’t have it” without any apologies or even a recommendation for something else instead, just a straight up no, they were not friendly or accommodating at all. How can you not have yogurt in an indian restaurant? Absolutely ridiculous. Then to top it off, the waiters were trying to get rid of us so they quickly gave us the dessert menu straight after we ate, as they close at 2:30pm and reopen in the evening, I told them is it possible to wait a little while before we order dessert, the waiter replied “no you have to order now because it will take time to come out” so we ended up ordering our desserts which came out within 2 mins. We were so angry because the waiter told us it would take some time to come out, soon as they cleared our dinner plates the desserts were already out. I took one bite of my toffee crumble cake and I found a hair inside, I was so shocked at how terrible everything was, I informed the waiter immediately and he didn’t even apologise he just said “I’ll change it” I’ve never been so mad at waiting staff in my life, it’s common courtesy to apologise for this, or at least remove something off the bill, but instead he just came out with another dessert and didn’t say a word. There was no acknowledgment on the situation, there was no communication or anything on their behalf, it was literally just a ‘quickly eat so I can go home’ vibe that I got from the waiter. Which is appalling from a so called 5* restaurant. Me and my husband had a terrible time and we would never come back. In fact, because we didn’t eat half of our meal, we left feeling hungry, so we ended up going to another indian restaurant that evening, which was much much better than this place, they had yoghurt, the service was 1000 times better, we were looked after properly, and they were accommodating as they made us stuff that wasn’t stated on the menu (eg. Aloo kulcha) We definitely won’t be coming back to vaasu ever again, nor will I recommend it to anybody. It Seems like they lack basic manners, and they clearly don’t know how to treat their customers nor do they know how to cook proper authentic Indian food, as everything was so bland, disgraceful! Don’t waste your time or money coming here, especially if you’re looking for great flavours and good quality food and service, then this definitely isn’t the place for you!!

After reading previous recent reviews I was a bit apprehensive but we had a Buyagift voucher to use. I was pleasantly surprised, lovely decor and warm inside. It was Friday lunchtime and fairly busy, nice buzzy atmosphere with others also using vouchers or à La carte. The portions on the voucher menu are small but delicious and very filling. Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Our waitress was very friendly and polite. If I had to suggest any area for improvement it would be the warmth and friendliness of the Maitre’d. He was very formal and rarely smiled but that is just my personal view. I think a warm and friendly approach can also be professional!

oh dear. we were a table of 3. 2 wanted tasting menu with wine pairing. we were told all 3 needed to have this. They would not flex on this. We even said we would split the table so the 3rd person could have his non taster preferences separate. No dice. And when asked why, we were told 'that's how it is'. Good grief. So we ordered starter and mains and wine. The place was dead and they turned down £200 of extra business - they must be idiots. Really surprised that Atul K would want his customers treated like this. We are human and would like to be served by humans not robots - especially in a very pricey restaurant. When it came, the food was OK but really not high end. The popadoms were nasty. The lamb - whilst beautifully cooked - had no discernible point of interest. The chicken was nice but not marinated or anything - just panfried and then sat on a masala sauce. The beef thing was good and as ever, the lentils were splendid - but the naan looked like it had been cooked ages ago and kept warm for a an hour or so before service. What a shame - treated like idiots and given so so food by people who didn't seem to want our money.

We live in Marlow and have visited before and had many takeaways , especially on lockdown when they first opened… We booked a table, but it was unnecessary, as they were not busy…. We like to go out for lunch most weeks and expect a good experience…. Today it was not… We ordered from the set menu and the Chicken Chop was fine… however the lamb dish, Saag Gosht was dreadful…. My husband started with several pieces of fat and cartilage, which was inedible… my first two pieces were fine… he complained and they quickly replaced his food… however, as ate I found more and more fat and gristle!! (See attached picture) This was a truly awful dish, I am sure that Atul would have been appalled. We were… We had no issue with the flavour or the cooking but the butchery of the meat was at fault…. And resulted in a very unsatisfactory meal… The staff dealt with this professionally and politely and they deducted a meal from our bill…. But we were still left with disappointment…. Will we visit again? Maybe but will avoid the lamb…. Hopefully there will be a new set menu soon.

We went in a Sunday and sadly it was not busy, sad for them not for us as we had a fantastic experience. I am not a lover of Indian food, but this was exquisite. We went for the testing menu and it demonstrated how you can bring Indian flavours to food without it hitting you in the face. The menu was fantastic - scallops were the best but every course simply full of flavour. I simply loved it. We also went for the wine pairing which also showed not only could they provide good flavours in their food they could also perfectly match them to a wine. If you have not as yet visited this restaurant you should do.

My wife and I had been eagerly anticipating a special birthday dinner at Vaasu Marlow, but unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, the welcome was rather subdued, lacking the warmth we had hoped for. We were shown to our table and then left waiting for about 10 minutes before we had to request menus ourselves. The service continued to be sluggish, with a further 15-minute wait just to place our drinks order. It was a similar story when it came time to order our food; we had to actively seek out a waiter to take our order. The overall service left much to be desired. On a positive note, the starters were delightful and well-presented. However, the main course was a letdown. We both opted for the lamb shoulder on the waiter's recommendation. Disappointingly, my portion was significantly smaller than my wife's. Though the staff did bring an additional portion after we pointed this out, the inconsistency was surprising. Furthermore, the main dish's presentation was lackluster, with the lamb shank simply laid over a curry-like sauce that was bland and unimpressive. Dessert, too, was underwhelming. The apple turnovers were basic and did not justify their high price. Considering the overall cost of £150 for the meal, I was left feeling quite disappointed, especially given the high expectations I had for this birthday dinner. In summary, while there were some high points, the overall experience at Vaasu Marlow was not what we had hoped for, especially for a special occasion like a birthday. The service was slow and inattentive, and the food, though partly enjoyable, did not live up to the expectations set by the price.

Every element was flavoursome and the food was washed down very nicely by the variety of different drinks, starting with champagne, then various wines, our favourite was the mango infused wine, which we had never tried before. Sadly disappointed here. Food was substandard with tough flavourless meat only saved by the sauce slightly. Lamp over spiced and under cooked left a rather strong chewy mess. Service was a bit quick footed bringing states before finishing papadams.
