The Mowchak in Wycombe

This was our second visit and we came with friends this time. The food was exceptional. The chef was happy to cook a potato vindaloo which was not on the menu which we were very greatful for. The service was impeccable and very friendly. Will definitely be going back and will share the experience positively with others. Well done Mowchak and thankyou!

Went for a banquet lunch. Atmosphere was uncomfortable. No background music nothing. Being the only table in the place we almost felt we couldn't talk. Took 20 minutes for our order to be taken and almost a further hour before our starters arrived. Starters were nice but that was as good as it got. Chicken in two mains was bone dry and the mains were tepid at best. Drinks overpriced. Plenty of food but really not worth the money paid. Gentleman serving us was okay but could do with some training in customer service.

Fantastic food and fantastic size portions. For me, it is the best Indian food you can get in High Wycombe at the moment. In 2024, the food and portion sizes are still fantastic. The prices have increased, but it is still worth it.

Food arrived 1 and a half hours later swimming in oil and inedible . Will not be returning ever

Ordered chicken tikka masala, the chicken was overcooked it was very dry and tough, the bombay aloo(potatoes) sauce was too salty did not enjoy

Been looking around for a local Indian takeaway while I’m up here for uni and was recommended this place by a friend who lives in Wycombe. Had chicken korma, pilau rice and poppadoms and it was very tasty! Very nice food! Friendly delivery driver, tasty food! Reccomend!

Been looking for an Indian takeaway in Wycombe since I came up-to university here and went here following a recommendation from local friends. I ordered chicken korma, pilau rice and poppadoms and it was very tasty. I ordered at 5:30 and had my food by 6. Delivery driver was very friendly and food was yummy- can’t fault! Thankyou!

Such tasty, well cooked and perfectly delivered food. From a spicy roast dinner to street food style tandoori and warming dishes of loveliness. All presented to you with care, dedication and the politest of service.

Placed an order at 6:34pm. After 3 delays eventually got the food at 8:26pm. Upon receiving the food, it was greasy and oily. One of our dishes ordered was literally swimming in oil. It had completely split. Requested refund even part refund, didn't receive it. Will definitely not be returning.

Went for an Indian meal tonight inspite it being the hottest day this summer in the UK. Great little place met Reiaz who told us he had been there 8 months . We have the samosas and sheesh kebab to start , very fresh ver tasty . Main course was biriani and a chicken curry and keema nan everything was very freshly prepared super hot in heat and extremely nice .

We are local to the restuarant and always choose this venue for family occasions, meals out with friends and neighbours and takeaways. The food is lovely and the new owner has kept the standard high. The service by Robin is friendly and attentive. You bring your own drink to the restaurant - which can be purchased at the shops nearby. Always a lovely place to eat.

Went in at 7:30pm on a Sunday. It closes at 10pm but we were the only table. Seated by a half smashed window and service was very cold and unwelcoming throughout. Couldn't fault the food, it was very nice; maybe a takeout is the way to go.

Not sure where all these amazing reviews have come from… Weirdest guy showed us to our table in the corner next to a smashed window. Rolled his eyes at me for wanting two poppadoms, told me I hadn’t ordered enough rice or main dishes then rudely expected a tip! Only reason it’s a 2 and not a 1 is cos the food was actually nice.. well, apart from the watered down dips so, come to think of it… 1

Love this place for a reasonably priced evening out with friends. Staff are friendly and front of house Robin goes out of his way to look after you. Wednesday evening buffet is incredible value for the amount of food and BYO really keeps the cost down I understand it’s currently undergoing refurbishment by new owners and I’m looking forward to trying the new lunch menu in the new area at front of restaurant Independent businesses have been having a really tough time over the last two years so I try to support this restaurant as often as I can Try it, you won’t be disappointed

We were regular customers at The Mowchak, on and off, for 5 years but over 3 years ago now we retired to another part of the country. Recently however we were back in High Wycombe and so took the opportunity to return to The Mowchak at Downley and can confirm that the food remains excellent and that the service there remains attentive and comes always with a smile. Thank you Robin both for remembering us and for the, as always, great service and we we'll certainly be back again when next visiting the area. Highly Recommended.

First visit here for dinner with friends. The chef was happy to cater with vegan options, which were delicious and full of flavour. The service was great with staff being very attentive and friendly. Can bring your own wine, beer etc so the final bill was very reasonable. Definitely recommend.

This place is like an oasis in a field of restaurants. The food is first rate, full of flavour and they support vegetarian and vegan. Annoyed that I only just discovered it. You must try it.

We normally really enjoy their great value Banquet on a Wednesday night, but tonight I arrived at 7.30pm with 4 friends, and only 4 other people in the restaurant all night, and were told no desserts included in the Banquet tonight, or Poppadoms, and only 1 side dish and 1 rice to share between two... but the price is the same? We decided to pay £1 extra for a Poppadom each so we could take time to have a catch up before ordering. We had our starters and mains, which was delicious as always... but it seemed clear they were in a rush to close up after the other people left at 9.30pm. We were still having a chat and eating, but then they started clearing the table... so we didn't bother asking for the included coffees and got our coats to leave! Granted the waiter kept giving out chocolate mints, but come on guys... if you're going to promote a Banquet, don't cut the menu in half and then make us rush the food we do get for the same price! I hope they don't go further down hill as the food is always great, just need to remember in this current climate that some people are only just coming back out to socialise again and would actually really like to enjoy the experience.

Had a FAB meal at this lovely restaurant this lunchtime Saturday 8th January 2022. Staff very attentive. Nice atmosphere. Good portion sizes Good hygiene standards and the food was worth every penny, so tasty. Will definitely go back again. Lovely lunchtime meal on a miserable rainy day, it brought some sunshine into my day I would highly recommend this restaurant 🍴

Always happy with the food just a little disappointed that I didnt receive my dressing for salad tonight. I always look forward to it when I order tandoori chicken as it's dry so like my salad and dressing.

Ordered chef’s special biriani with chicken and a chicken tikka masala. Both very bland with very little taste . No Indian spice or flavour to any of ordered dishes . Won’t be using again .

We have ordered a Chicken Tikka Curry and Rice and Lamb Curry in the last few days and both have been tasty, well-served portions, and the facility looks quite clean on the inside, although it does look dark from the outside. Due to Covid, we have walked in to order takeaway. Service has been good on both occasions.

Our meal arrived 20 minutes after ordering by phone. The food was luke warm and the different dishes had no flavour or depth. The chicken in each dish tasted the same. We phoned Mowchak after throwing most of it away. Apparently the person we talked to stated he was the manager and then changed his mind, saying the manager wasn’t there and would call us the day after. I explained the food was not tasty and not hot. I also expressed my concerns over the speed of cooking and delivery. I was told each dish is cooked to order. How can chicken be cooked in a sauce in less than 15 mins (20 including delivery). He then admitted the chicken is pre cooked. We received no call the day after therefore I phoned on Sunday and the manager contacted me later in the evening. He apparently cooked our meal himself, funny as we were told the manager wasn’t there. He was adamant the food was hot and would not listen to any part of my issues. Really bad customer service and expensive for what was basically luke warm bland food. Shame on you!

This was a surprise find! Staff were friendly and attentive, food was delicious and offers more than just your traditional curries you normally expect. Great ambiance and cozy interior.

Food lovely, but after spending £35 for a takeaway for 2 we would have definitely welcomed some popadoms and dips/chutneys .....had we of ordered them from menu then we would have gone over £40 ..... a bit steep for a casual Saturday night takeaway..... could of easily eaten out for that price. For that reason we wouldn’t order from Them again..... not good value for money 😩

I ordered Chicken Mughlai and it came with chana daal. I can't imagine a chicken with chana daal. The worst I ever had. Your chef needs to join a cooking class.

Recommended by a friend we thought we would give it a go. The food is lovely, lots of flavour and good size portions. We were waited on by Robin who really makes an effort. They have not got a licence to supply alcohol so you can take your own and save money. Robin was very happy to doggy bag our left overs. The only time they are going to charge for this, is if you go to one of their eat as much as you like days.(Which is fair because you could potentially take away a large amount of food for nothing)

8 of us met at a local High Wycombe Indian Mowchaks, for a get together as one of the brothers is preparing for Umrah to Saudi Arabia - Makkah/Madinah with his family... We had a great catch up, great food, great atmosphere and great value for money plus bring your drinks... We made DUA for the brother's blessed trip then look forward to our post Umrah gathering for our Zam Zam and dates God Willing...D10 DUA..

This is our place to come to every time we visit. Awesome food and Robin is the best waiter you could wish for. Such a wonderful place. Robin treats us like friends. It’s always a pleasure and we’re always looking forward to coming back!!

The food here isn't bad and the buffet days/nights are good value. However, the service is strange - we asked for water with our meal, and were told stern faced no - then the water arrived 5 minutes later. Later, we had food left over and asked if we could take it home - we were told we would have to pay £5 per box to take it. I wasn't sure he could be serious - when has anyone ever heard of that? However, he meant it and discarded all the food. I thought we were meant to be cutting down on food waste in this country, but not here. They should reduce the portion size or let people take away their left overs.I was left feeling vaguely told off and embarrassed for asking for something which is standard practice. It's not as if we were standing at a buffet table loading up boxes to take away. This was food they had brought us in dishes to out table. We had not asked for more. Portions are gigantic and more than anyone could eat at a sitting ( they give yourself four mains and 4 sides as standard). There's a good range of Indian restaurants in this town and though this is close to us, I doubt we will return.

Having lived in Downley for years and alway wanted to visit. We finally did it. What fantastic food and service. We will be making other visits soon.

We came here with friends for a nice meal, and that's exactly what we got. I can't praise it highly enough. The service was exceptional. The quality of the dishes were faultless. We will definitely be going back.

Having just moved to Downley, we wanted to check out the local curry house! We were not disappointed with our food at The Mowchak! A party of 6 on a Sunday night, were we offered their Sunday Buffet for £9.95 per head - food for at least 8/9 people was served and such delicious flavours! There's no alcohol licence but they told us as soon as we sat down and suggested Tesco next door - happy for people to BYOB! The only slight disappointment was a charge for taking away our leftovers but apart from that, it was fabulous and we'll definitely be back! (Perhaps with our own tuppaware!!!)

There was a wide choice of food to order and some unusual dishes that I had not seen before. The food was hot when it arrived and very tasty. We will order from Mowchak again.

The food was bland. Chicken tikka had no taste whatsoever.. Naan breads were soggy yet burnt. Rice was again bland. In all our years this is the WORST Indian meal we have had. We won't be returning.

I've had 4 meals from The Mowchak (Downley!), 1 takeaway & 3 sit downs. All have been very good. I don't usually write reviews but thought I would start to when restaurants provide a consistent good service as this does. It's very informal inside but you can't argue with the quality, service, portion size (if you're not a big eater the mains are so big two people could share) & price. I quite like the fact you can take your own alcohol - Tesco being next door is ideal and it adds to the informal setting inside. Not a 'first date' place but for what it is, it's great.

It would appear that some of the reviews for this restaurant in Downley are actually referring to it's namesake in Stokenchurch, (a few miles away along the A40). They are not the same and are not managed/owned by the same people.

Plenty of parking at the rear. Service was excellent and the food was probably the nicest (Curry) i'd tasted in the area. Nice settings and they have a bar next door if you are meeting up prior to the meal

After a name change from Ranasana to Mowchak, it's pretty much business as usual. There's a bring your own alcoholic drinks system in place which might want to be considered if your sitting down to eat rather than getting a takeaway. Cleanliness rating has gone up recently and the place is generally clean and tidy if a little Spartan in decor. Takeaways are the main business and they operate a good local delivery service.

I haven't been for an Indian for a couple of years and decided to check out the Mowchak in its new home in Downley, based on the posative reports from its previous home in Stokenchurch.

Booked for 7.30 we were a little late but the place was already buzzing. Beer and wine from Tescos 2 excellent meals. Great rice, nan and meals. No fat at all. Will be going back.

We had a takeaway from here recently. It was oily, greasy, cold and salty. Chicken was overcooked too. The prices are cheap but it is easy to see why

Wednesday night is banquet night. Excellent food at fixed price. Pick anything from the menu and cooked fresh. Poppadoms, starter, main, side, rice, naan, dessert and coffee. You simply cannot get better value for your money. Excellent service with a smile.

Ordered a takeaway as my usual one is currently closed and the Madras was OK but not what I would expect from a dine in restaurant. The main issue was the two male staff members, they gave me a funny look when I walked in and sort of grunted at me, I said I had ordered a takeaway and gave my name he then pointed at a seat and went off to the kitchen to get the food. Felt slightly uncomfortable but luckily he returned with the food within 30 seconds so I could pay and get on my way.

Just had a brilliant take away, very tasty all four of us enjoyed our selections. Good size servings and prompt delivery.
