Love the fish and chips, especially the curry dip and the perfectly fried chips. It's so sad they're closing. Forever a fan!

Ben Shaw's Cream Soda Vs Barr's Cream Soda. Verdict; still prefer the Barr version. They're both good but the Ben Shaw has a bit of an aftertaste. Ordered here late Sunday afternoon but they didn't have what I requested. Understandably due to the time I arrived but the food was as you'd expect from an old-skool chippy with relative prices. Hopefully the guys who served me will see my first line of my review and remember our chat! Polite and friendly service with a smile.

Unexpected found this place. Great Fish and chips

Cod, scampi, chips and mushy peas were delicious and piping hot, and the portions were very large. We couldn't quite finish but wanted to assure the staff we had really enjoyed it. They were attentive and cheerful. Near the coast and with its time warp signage and decor, this is the sort of place you'd take friends from other countries to experience proper English fish and chips.

This is real fish and chips! Always freshly cooked and tasty. Staff, especially Madeline are so helpful and courteous, always ready for a friendly chat. Love the decor, so reminds me of my school days being treated by Mum and Dad on a Saturday! Keep up the good work, it's lovely.

I had the Haddock. Tasty, meaty, and the batter was perfect. Staff were friendly and very efficient. Proper old style fish restaurant.

We've been going here for years but today paid £14+ for cod and chips. The cod was dry and over battered, I think it had been cooked twice. Too many small chips all in all very disappointing.

Professional stuff,the size of meal was suitable for two adults . I was really fortunate there was no long queue to order pickup as well . Eventually, the fees was quite good. Highly recommend restaurant. Cod and chips were I tried.

Very nice Fish and chips but expensive to eat inside

We stopped for lunch at V C Jones last week. There were four if us. One had Skate, one had Rock eel and two of us had cod, all with chips and mushy peas. All excellent. Service was fantastic. Will look forward to visiting again when we are in Whitstable again from Essex

This place has gone downhill so much. Went there today and fish wasn’t fresh and wasn’t white it was kind of discoloured. My wife and I didn’t eat half of it and asked for the bill. I showed the waitress the discoloured light brown colour of the fish that wasn’t eaten and she said she would tell the manager but still wanted full payment. No senior member of staff came to see us so we paid and left. This place used to be the best but now I’d never go back.

Very nice chips, lovely service too. The sausage in batter could have done with a bit more cook time but overall very nice. Recommended

Finest fish and chips I ever did have

Had a day out in Whitstable and went in to VC Jones for our Lunch. There were 4 of us and between us we had Skate, 2 Cod and Rock eel with chips and mushy peas etc. Excellent, beautiful flavour, enjoyed every mouthful. The lady who served us was really lovely. We all live in Essex but will certainty make a beeline for some more of the same. Excellent in all aspects

Lovely food. Really enjoyed the fish and chips. Bread roll wasn't the best however! Waiting staff were great. Only other downside was the dining room was too hot - air con required!

Chips were lovely the problem was on the last day decided to try a pie and chips. The steak pie was microwaved and was soggie and on one side was cold and the other side warm. Would not buy again.

Cod and chips we ordered was lovely it was a bigger enough portion to share between two people. Then we ordered a sausage and chips but the size of the sausage was awful. It’s like it’s from a children’s meal. I wouldn’t recommend for an adult’s portion. In one of the medium portions of chips we found a black hair. We’re visiting here and a few people recommend this local fish and chip shop. But I definitely wouldn’t come back in a hurry. The staff were very friendly, but they were very busy as it was a Saturday evening.

This was by far the best fish and chips I have had in all over the uk.. we tried 3 other different restaurants in the twin and this place had the best flavour, the fish was fresh and they where lovely people.

Brilliant fish and chips. Tasty crispy.

No frills restaurant that serves traditional fish and chips with mushy peas (if desired). What makes me give it 5 stars is the fantastic service of their staff. We arrived on bicycles, dripping wet and very hungry and they couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating.

Every time we go to VC Jones and we've never been disappointed proper old school fish and chip shop lovely 👍

Three fish n chips, one pasty n chips and four hot drinks £66. Fish average but pasty was soggy and filling really mushy, not nice at all. Won't be going back I'm afraid

Food was very good but paying ten pence for a tiny sachet of sauce is a bit ridiculous :(

This is one of the best Chippy shops I have visited in the Country, if not the world. The food tastes divine, the portions are large (some say to large) and the staff friendly, and you don't have to take out a bank loan to pay for a meal. We have been eating here for the last 20+ years, often making the 25 mile journey from home just to eat here, there's nothing better than sitting on the beach eating Fish and Chips.

By far the best cod and chips we have ever had! It was worth the wait. No wonder there was a queue as people travel distance to sample the best in Kent. The fish and the chips were cooked to perfection. The staff were extremely busy but were very friendly and polite. We can only imagine that the bad reviews are from rival establishments!

Delicious fish and chips. Only marked a star down as sometimes it’s super busy and they rush it. Today, however, was amazing. A little but expensive but worth it.

Very nice fish & Chips, friendly staff. The wait to get the order was a bit long as we were waiting around with kids but they seemed to be working as fast as they could. There was dining inside but it was a lovely sunny day so we took our food to the beach and had it there (5 mins walk away). Everything tasted delicious.

fish and chips generally is either good, mediocre or bad ... except for about 1 % of the time and this is what makes that rare exception. outstanding fish that is cooked just right and what I can only describe as "proper" English chips.

The fish was good and the service Great only complaint was getting curry sauce instead of smashed peas. We were too far away to go back for the correction. But the curry sauce was welcomed by one of us. Only a disappointment for me.

After a disappointing fish & chips at the harbour, we decided to come here in an attempt to get in a decent one before leaving. I was not disappointed! Short wait for the food and they remembered exactly who ordered what…impressive. Chips were nice and crispy, as was the batter on the fish. Fish itself was fresh, soft and buttery. And they take card - which is the norm these days surely but several places in Whitstable are still cash-only 😣

It was a perfect evening for a lovely dinner in Whitstable. Was recommended this restaurant and told it was basic with no frills. But incredible fish & Chips. I was given cod loin and chips, freshly made. The staff were lovely and welcoming. Met Sam and Matt who made me really welcome. Down to earth hard working people. My kind of people.

Disappointed about all the 1 star reviews. This place is amazing. Food is gorgeous. The curry sauce was unreal. The chips are unique and stunning. How many more words can i use. Oooh the staff are attentive and friendly. Must visit....

Found myself out on my own for dinner 🙄 decided To go to VC Jones. Great Fresh Chips decided to go for scampi & chips to be a little different, and the scampi wasn’t that shrivel chewy that sometimes you get elsewhere. So 100% Great quality. Thankyou

Big servings of fish and chips. Very filling! The curry gravy was a bit small though.

I used to order every Friday fish and chips and everything was fine until tonight. The order arrived with a smile and it was the promise of a great night. the cod was lovely but the rock was burnt beyond recognition for the second time. Old batter and lack of check in the fryer and you have a bitter and unsafe piece of fish. A great shame for a family run business founded in 1960. There was a time you could feel the care and respect to customer. To forget I am afraid.

We sat inside great fish and chips with mushy peas and a cup of tea to round it off. I'll put it on my list for another visit. They never let you down went today for lunch, be aware of portion sizes.

Appalling / the “chef” had a tantrum in the restaurant and slammed equipment and was rude and confrontational to customers!

The service is quick and nice staff , the fish and chips are the best in the country, always fresh as well , we travel from Orpington to taste this fish and chips it’s worth the drive.

Top notch fish and chips! Wife had a pie and chips. I had the pollock and chips. The pollock in particular was very reasonably priced. Great bit of fish in a lovely batter. The chips were beautiful. Lots of flavour, lovely and crunchy and never got soggy. Everything is freshly cooked too. We went around lunchtime but could see it was quieter from 2pm onwards, but even at its busiest we were in and out in 15 minutes. Definitely worth the wait though. And everything cools down nicely by time you walk to the seaside to take in the view and the lovely sea breeze. What more could you want!

Being a seaside town, there are a vast array of places to buy fish and chips. A friend recommended VC Jones however, and it was an excellent recommendation. Great chips that weren't at all flabby, the batter on the fish was crispy and light, the portion of scampi wasn't skimpy! We took them round to eat in the beach and they were great!
