Urchins in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

I only popped in for a quick coffee while shopping and received a lovely warm welcome. I will definitely be returning again for lunch in the near future as the food looked amazing and nice choices on the menu. Little Gem

We came here for lunch whilst visiting Bude. We called in to book a table, as our daughter was impressed with the vegan options available. Glad we did as the restaurant quickly filled up shortly after we arrived. All four of us agreed that the food was really tasty and will definitely return when next in Bude.

Lovely full English breakfast today at Urchins Bistro. We were lucky to get a table, it was so busy. Everything cooked fresh and to order, would definitely recommend.

Urchins Bistro is a really friendly place too eat and get a nice coffee. Make lovely cakes as well. Food is cooked fresh. I would recommend this place any time.

We found Urchins by chance today, we had been hiking north of Bude in Devon and had no luck finding a pub for lunch on the way back. Urchins had a great selection of menu to choose from, we three had two soups and a sandwich with cheesy fries. Soups came hot with a choice of bread, mine was butternut and ginger, huge ginger hit, son's was Carrots and cumin, husband a ham and cheese sandwich. Husband's only comment was the fries could have been more crispy with the cheese on top. Staff were friendly, doing their best to deal with the levels of flux of customers and pandemic measures in place. They may want to consider posting a map on how to find the toilet.

Been visiting bude many times and now first time this year after the horrible pandemic. We always come to the urchins and couldn’t be more satisfied with the breakfast selections. And just a very nice business with the atmosphere and still cosy and comfortable with the COVID guidelines. Worth visiting and helping out the local businesses.

Great value, brilliant menu that has all your favourites but also some unusual things if you fancy a change and really friendly atmosphere. The chef gave us tips about how to make his delicious cauliflower and cheese soup and the ploughman’s I had was stunning. Everything is clearly made fresh, even my daughters Macaroni cheese was awesome! We’ll be back!

We left it too late to secure breakfast in our hotel during our recent visit to Bude and upon exploring the town on arrival we walked past Urchins. The breakfast menu looked extensive with choices to suit everyone and we decided that we would eat there the following morning.The tables are well spaced and they are throughly disinfecting tables between each sitting. We sat on a lovely table by the window (good people watching!) and didn’t have a long wait for our full English and salmon with scrambled eggs. Very generous portions and we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts which set us up for the day, and a 6 mile walk!Urchins do an exciting daytime and evening menu too, and I do believe it’s licensed. We only sampled breakfast but it’s 100% a place I’d recommend.

Not terrible food,but a little old-hat. Service needs polishing. Bude is now a culinary haven with the likes of The temple, Potters, Sea Fever, and Surfing frog. Unfortunately restaurants like this are falling behind the times.

A really lovely gem of a cafe located in Bude town centre.Serving all your 'favourites' on the menu - I opted for the 'All Day' breakfast at lunchtime, and was not disappointed. My friend selected the scampi and chips & garden peas - a very good portion at that.Friendly staff, appealing interiors, a reasonably-priced menu, and a bar area located at the front of the cafe.

Tucked away in the rear streets of Bude town....we found a lovely little place....very good CV19 compliance and very good food choices....very fresh...quick and nice staff to boot...thoroughly worth a visit

I was meeting friends I hadn't seen in 30 years. The place I had planned to go had shut down so we needed to find an alternative. We could not have asked for better when we stumbled across Urchins. What wonderful staff. They took so much trouble to clean our table and chairs before we sat down. The menu was varied and we each had a completely different selection. Mine was the Eggs Royale, perfect. We all enjoyed our choices and it was the perfect place for a lovely reunion. Thank you so very much to the staff especially in these difficult times. You could not have done more and we wish you continued success. You deserve it.

Whilst on holiday we came across this fabulous place to eat and drink. Great customer service. Good prices and menu. Highly recommend. Good Covid rules in place

On holiday with hubby. Visiting a special friend who lives inBude. My friend Joyce moved here 7 years ago she highly recommends urchins, sheGoes in quite a lot with her hubby. This place is lovelyCleanModern with excellent staff and food too. Made to feel very welcome we had a full English which wAs lovely. We then called in later for cream tea too. We will be callin in again before we travel home. We only here 4 days.

Absolutely amazing lunch and thoroughly recommend a visit. They also do a great breakfast menu too. Ever so friendly and food was really good.

Lovely food and great service , the service out front was excellent. Even though the restaurant was full we received our food very quickly. Would definitely recommend !

We were very lucky to get a table in here, excellent service ,some people didn't like waiting outside while tables and chairs were sanitised for there use and walked away ,due to covid a 5 minute wait is nothing.Staff very friendly ,food fabulous you are doing a great job guys.

Asked for a table for two, told 15 mins wait, asked if we waited, could we have table being cleaned? Told No, booked, asked about other empty table- need to check, walked away! Hung around for a few mins and realised he wasn’t coming back! Yes COVID has made things difficult but manners and plain old fashioned service cost nothing. We wanted a full lunch with wine and drinks, money no issue- lost a good sale and a tip! Shameful behaviour!

we had a flying visit to Cornwall last week and went to our favourite restaurant there. lovely welcome after 12 months absence , well behaved dogs are welcome on leads but left ours in car this time right across road where we could see them. Peter and I had scallops on pea puree , delicious, for a starter, one of my favourite starters , good portions. Then I had surf and turf, delicious steak and prawns etc. peter had sea bream, I must admit I was tempted when I saw it!! The presentation of both dishes was excellent. We both had Eton mess for dessert, mine with clotted cream, Peter's with ice cream . Andrew and Gary follow the lockdown rules to the letter, we felt perfectly safe and relaxed as did all the other customers by the look of them. We hope to visit again poss. later this year , and if not next hoping we can go caravanning down there as usual. Despite the two poor reviews for September for this super little Bistro, I can only advise that this was not my experience. Myself and my husband dined at Urchins on the last night of a short break in Bude and were in fact at the adjacent table, and had an identical meal, to the 'Disaster for Two' reviewer. We had to book 48 hours beforehand to get a table on the Saturday evening and were pleased to find that even though we were the last booking of the evening, there were just enough servings left of the crab linguine, which we both wanted. This was a superb dish, as was the starter and the Eton Mess pudding. The whole experience was brilliant, only marred by the aggressive manner of the complainant who has given the bad review, whose bullying and condescending tone left the young staff shaking and the rest of the customers slightly on edge. The relief was palpable when he left!Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when I heard him say (among other things, including a reference to Gordon Ramsey - why?) that the crab linguine had no taste, I had to wonder whether something was wrong with his tastebuds because this dish was extremely tasty – if you don't believe me, go try it for yourself. I understand it sold out every night that week and I can understand why. If we're ever back in Bude we will be happy to return to this delightful bistro.

We are a family of four and were day tripping in Bude this week when the weather turned and it started to rain. We tried to get in this cafe to shelter and feed our newborn baby and was met at the door by an aggressive staff member who said we couldn’t enter for just drinks and would couldn’t take in our pushchair because of Covid ‍♀️. We were more than happy to eat, but couldn’t eat and feed and hold a baby with no pushchair. We explained this but were told to leave. I have never, ever being into any cafe or restaurant and been treated so disgracefully. Give this place a miss!

We had dinner this evening at this restaurant It was our last meal before leaving Bude having had such a lovely break We thought that we would try this restaurant To our dismay we found the whole experience opposite to that off any where else The whole meal was unsatisfactory being not as described The waitress was charming However the acting manager Mr Jones Who said he was the messenger boy of me leeInformed us that he was instructed not to make any adjustments whatsoever to the bill The customer service by senior management matches the quality of the food and left a lot to be desired After paying the bill in full and leaving the premises We heard mr Jones smash several plates in anger Will never return What a shame It left a bad taste

A lovely evening meal, friendly staff, great service with fabulous food. The Eton mess pudding was gorgeous with strawberries & blueberries. We will definitely be back.

The food was hot and served very quickly. We could see they put care into the plating and how everything was served. This was an amazing experience !

We ducked in here out of the rain and were lucky based on how popular it was to get a table. The service was fine and coupled with the turn over of tables and the rude people trying to get the staff to break social distancing rules to fit in. The food was nice and reasonably priced. Would return again if I was holidaying in Bude again.

Wonderful, friendly service from the young staff and delicious Full English breakfast... We came here for breakfast 2 days running. Highly recommend!

Visited Urchins on Wed 5th August and booked to return on Friday 7th August it was so good! Food is all cooked to order and staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. Will def be back when we head to Bude again.

We had a Lovely meal with very friendly staff would definitely recommend. Very clean and well worth a visit.

We stopped here for lunch twice whilst staying in Bude. The ploughman's lunch and scampi meals were great.

When staying a few days near Bude we went to 'Urchins' for breakfast one morning. The four of us all had the Full English Breakfast and we all enjoyed it enormously. The restaurant has been very nicely decorated and as such has a very nice ambiance. The waiter was very accommodating and wore a face mask to comply with measures to contain spread of Covid-19. The restaurant also took a name and contact number for track and trace reasons. Tables were well spaced out though and so we felt perfectly comfortable eating at Urchins. The full breakfast was good value at £7.95 each and came with egg, bacon, sausage, 2 hash browns, black pudding (if you like it), beans or tomato, and toast or fried bread. We all varied our order slightly and it was no problem at all that we all wanted to substitute our black pudding for something else, be that an extra egg, an extra slice of bacon or a 3rd hash brown. Very very satisfied with the service and attitude of this establishment. The quality of the food was excellent as was its presentation. If I had one very picky bit of feedback it would be to cook the bacon a little longer to crisp the bacon fat up a bit. We highly recommend a visit to Urchins.

We popped in after surfing frog recommended this. It was great for coffee, there was a long wait for food so we didn’t order. No issue at all with the coffee and service.

Love this place and been many times - from the humble bacon sandwich (with fresh sliced bread) to a 3 course dinner when they open in the evenings during the summer season, I've never been disappointed. Friendly service, lovely atmosphere and great selection from the menu and specials board.

you have to wait,as everything is cooked fresh,but its worth it.hubby had a cooked breakfast, and i had an ommlette. i often have lasagne,best ive ever tasted.

Wiyh the grandkids who chose it because they served an Enhlish Breakfast till 2.30pm.Quality food well presented and very good service very busy so suggest you plan ahead. Good value for money.Only down side where the toilets which you had to access via an side alley. Would recommend going if in Bude great choice on menu and other guests were all impressed with there food choices.

Only dropped in for a coffee to kill some time so I can't comment on food, nobody was eating at 11:30 on a freezing February weekday. The coffee was very nice with a friendly enough welcome but why on earth are there no toilets or hand washing facilities?

We had to wait for over 24 minutes for the breakfast. The fried slice was done perfect. I do think that staff was few so the delay was to do with that. My daughter felt that the food tasted of bacon and she does not like bacon. She will eat sausage etc but I really enjoyed the full English. Loved the fried slice but as a family our tea was delivered too early and the cups were tiny and it was cold by the time the food arrived.... I felt sorry for the staff. I doubt the owner was there. It was a Saturday.

We chose fish of the day (hake) which turned out to be among the best, frashest and hottest fish and chips we have tasted in a very long time. Sorry not to have been able to repeat the experience. We noted the premises was very busy and well patronised by local people.

My family and I visited here in August 2019. The food here was very good. The scampi is a good choice, as is the English breakfast. My wife also had the curry, which she enjoyed and my daughter the jacket potatoe. All nicely cooked. I’ll definitely visit again

Visiting Bude for the first time and popped in after a chilly walk with the dogs this morning intending to have a big breakfast. On spotting beef goulash up on the specials board we opted to just have a coffee and come back for lunch. So glad we did. The beef was melt in the mouth gorgeous. A truly lovely bowl of food. Great, friendly service, great food at a good price, impeccably clean and dog friendly. Ticks all the boxes.

Came here on holiday for lunch. I had a full English which was cooked really well. I had a side of mushrooms which was cooked beautifully and had chips instead of hash browns. My food was delicious and would definitely return. The man who served us (I’m guessing the owner) seemed a bit miserable and abrupt when we heard him around the cafe. Luckily the food made up for this

A varied menu on offer but it had to be the pasty chips and peas at appox £11. Great plate of food, tasty pasty and good chips. If we were staying in thecarea longer we would have returned. Good service. Toilets round the back.

Came in on Thursday for lunch . Well established business with professional and high standard service . Food was lovely and well plated . Beautiful bistro to eat in with lovely staff ! Will be back !

We felt there was a little bit of an attitude or something when we visited Urchins, the service was quick and sort of friendly. Sadly the staff do not know the difference between Latte and Cappuchino and milky coffee.

We were delighted to stumble across this restaurant which offers beautifully cooked dinners at reasonable prices. It makes you wonder how other establishments can charge more for inferior food. We had starters and main courses, all delicious and generous. Highly recommended.

We have stayed in Bude numerous times and always eat st least once per visit at Urchins Staff are always friendly and accommodating the food is always excellent. Locally caught fish and chips wonderful

We are visiting Bude for the first time and came across this gem as a place.

A great find! Wasn't sure at first but we had six excellent meals, good service and good value.The food was very well presented, piping hot and good quality. Staff were very helpful. Will definitely visit again.

Had dinner here one night and was reasonably good so thought we would have breakfast a couple of days later. Very disappointed eggs swimming in oil fried in oil that was too hot bacon was fried but in an over crowded pan which meant rather than being fried it was boiled and turned out like old leather the toast was just introduced to the grill and the beans were cold. I did not complain as I am not in the business of teaching restaurants how to cook at my expense.

We always look forward to visiting Urchins when we come down to Bude with the family! Everyone loves the food, there’s always something for everyone with us having a wide range of fish lovers, meat lovers and a vegetarian. Really friendly staff who always make us feel welcome and great service. Will be back again next year!

Had their crab sandwich and although it said 50/50 meat it wasn’t and really had the taste of fish paste

We have just ordered breakfast where I specifically asked for some of the breakfast items to be placed on a separate plate due to my son’s allergies. When the food arrived the waitress had not brought the food as we asked and told us that there was only one chef and there was nothing she could do about it. Not only was this disappointing as we had been looking forward to this breakfast but also that there was absolutely no apology. If you are wanting to go there for breakfast, make sure that they have enough chefs and your request can be catered for.

We stopped here for a coffee and ended up getting some breakfast. I had the full English, which was very basic but really good. Staff were very knowledgable with regard my girlfriends gluten allergy and made her a nice cheesey omelette.

We have visited Urchins ( our regular choice) once again today and nothing has altered. A lovely Bistro, clean and lovely food. Great service from Tyler, thank you.

This place was recommended to me by a local and they were right. They have a lovely selection of items on their breakfast menu and it is all freshly cooked. There were as many local people as tourists eating here so it shows it is a lovely friendly place to meet and eat.

wonderful food and service, really fresh fish, well prepared and good service. Only criticism is that there was no mint sauce for the mushy peas

We visited this lovely friendly restaurant for a light holiday lunch they serve the best crab sandwiches ever it’s gorgeous thick bread with plenty of crab filling it’s served with salad & chips my husband had homemade onion,sage & cheddar cheese soup with a slice of thick bread he said it was amazing our waiter was really helpful and friendly as were all the staff we met here we will certainly make a return visit next time we’re in Bude

Just had a lovely lunchtime eal at Urchins. The food is fresh and delicious, the crab sandwich with salad, chips and mayo is good value. Would recommend this restaurant.

First time here, very clean, light & nicely decorated Bistro & Coffee House, very friendly staff, good selection on the menu, we had the full breakfast was very tasty and freshly cooked, good size portions, coffee was great tasting. Well worth a visit.

I had the mushroom and spinach stroganoff and it was so tasty. We had not booked and the bistro quickly filled up, so in high season I'd give them a call so as not to be disappointed. It was easy on the ear, some bistros can be noisy, this is a chill out place with good quality food.

9 of us turned up at lunchtime. They seated us (+ Dog) with out any problem. We all ordered various items. All of which came out at the same time and excellent. All other food we witnessed being served also looked excellent.

We went in here because it was open at 9:00 when a lot of other cafes were not. We needed breakfast early and had the full English which was very good. The owner and chef were very friendly and the food cooked to order. The location right in the centre of Bude is good. The place is clean and tidy with a good atmosphere. this is definitely not a greasy spoon cafe! The prices were very reasonable and we left happy.

Having taken a walk nearby we felt the need for a midday sandwich, Urchins was clean and very presentable with a varied menu. We enjoyed a bacon, a sausage and a tuna mayo sandwich with tea and a soft drink. Great service and tasty and a good price.

Very nice place for lunch, eaten here a few times and everything we have chosen from the menu has been excellent. Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. Dog friendly. Gluten Free options available.

The cooked breakfast is great , freshly cooked and table service and the coffee is good and staff are all helpful and friendly.

Nice ambience, friendly and efficient service, good food at reasonable prices, caters for all tastes and appetites. Probably a little understaffed at the time as both people on shift were incredibly busy ( probably the owners) but coped well with lunchtime rush with not a long wait for food or drinks.

Nice atmosphere, warm and inviting. Ordered the full English breakfast. Reason for okay title is, what it means. It was okay. I would of paid extra money for good quality sausages. I should of asked for my toast not to be buttered as it was soggy. Other than that , service was great and so was the coffee. Will return however. !!

Having had to check out of our accommodation early we decided to have breakfast out. The full English was very good value, however, if you just wanted toast that was expense in comparison. Staff friendly too.

Always pop always nag here when visiting Bude. Have tried meat and vegetarian breakfast and both the best in Bude as far as I’m concerned. Xx

Right, where do I start. On arrival we asked for a table of 5 with room for a baby. We were given a very cold response and made it very obviously we weren’t welcome with a pram and baby. The waiter made it very awkward for the pram to get past. Once seated we were rudely told to turn the pram around and the staff continued to stare and whisper about us. The chef came out the back and began whispering which made us feel very uncomfortable.

called in for lunch as the one we normally used was closed, and so pleased we did. had the lasagne and it was the best i have ever tasted.lovely salad with it as well. hubby had cheese ploughmans, and cleared the plates.

Visited for lunch whilst on holiday in the area. Ordered a bacon sandwich, sausage sandwich, chips, a Children’s fish fingers, mashed potato and peas. Excellent! The fish fingers were homemade and delicious...the bacon was thick and great quality. All the food in fact was great. Would definitely recommend!

Another returning visit. To be honest I wouldn't eat anywhere else in Bude. Tried the slow cooked Cornish Beef in Betty Stoggs ale and I wish I could take the recipe home. Excellent food.

Went into Urchins with my parents and my son. Instantly impressed with the look of the place and was greeted straight away. It started to fill up while we were there but orders were taken quickly - one family left as they were told they might have a bit of a wait as food is cooked to order. I thought this was nice as they had 4 younger children with them - better to warn people rather than let them sit and get bored / annoyed while waiting on food.

Fantastic Breakfast, excellent customer service, clean tidy and good value for money. Our favourite destination for a cooked breakfast that never disappoints

Excellent food served promptly very enjoyable. Had pasty and chips and tuna mayo jacket potato. Allows well behaved dogs made to feel welcome.

The breakfast at Urchins was very nice and good value for money. I also tried the Crab sandwich special which was quite pricey at £10, but after looking round elsewhere I realised this was about the going rate. However Urchins served theirs with salad and chips so that made it a bit better value.

Five of us stopped here for breakfast, all big hungry lads. Full English with tea and extra toast was absolutely lovely. Not the cheapest but very nice, excellent value, kept us going all day. Recommended.

One day we called in for a coffee, and was pleasantly surprised at how great it was. As soon as we walked in, we realised what a lovely hidden gem it was. The drinks we had were served promptly and were good value for money. Although we were not eating, we did notice the food as it came out, and the breakfast looked amazing! So we will definitely be returning there for breakfast when we visit bude again. The staff were also very friendly.

We came here for a traditional cream tea n it was awful so basic aldi’s scones tasted better! when the teas came to the table they were just dumped on the table and still on the tray which wasn’t taken away. When asked if we could swap a tea for a coke we got a dirty look from the staff and told to pay an extra 20p which was fine, but when it came it was flat and tasted more like rola cola! During our visit the staff were rude and acted like they couldn’t be bothered. I would not recommend coming here.

Just happened to find this restaurant when looking for somewhere to accommodate 11 of us.

Nice little bistro at top of main street friendly staff and good service excellent lasagne served very hot. Nothing too much trouble for waiting staff would recommend a visit if your in Bude

We ate here twice whilst on holiday, at both lunch time and in the evening, on both occasions the food was delicious and the service great

Sat down to have some lunch and we ordered drinks to start. The stand offish and curt service made us feel like we weren’t welcome. The three guys in there repeatedly asked guests “anything else” when they were ordering.

I visited the for a late meal on a Saturday and decided that I had found a hidden gem. The food was amazing and cooked as requested. The staff could not do enough to help me and even when I asked for something to be altered from the menu it was no issue. I live local and there are countless places to eat in Bude, this place rates No 1 in my book.

We were rudely turned away as we had a newborn baby in a pram, they weren't prepared to try and accommodate us at all.

We visited on 26th August and we weren’t disappointed. The menu was varied and used local produce as stated.

We came at lunchtime on a very busy Bank Holiday Monday so although we were seated quickly & our order taken we did have to wait, but to be fair they did warn us politely so we weren't disappointed. The ambience inside was quite nice but spoilt by wholey inadequate air conditioning which meant it smelt strongly of kitchen/fryer odours. Menu was interesting, food very tasty (especially the veggie burger option) & service OK ish. The toilet facility was round the corner outside, down an alleyway leading to the back of the kitchens, & the loo itself was a bit grubby. Rather primitive but served its purpose!

Good friends of ours gave us glowing reports about this Restaurant and as we were in the area, we thought we would give it a try.

We'd been recommended here by some friends so decided to try and go for an evening meal to find it was shut as was most of the cafes/shops etc in Bude, so eventually got a seat for a lunch which was very nice. I did find a piece of shell in my crab sandwich with nearly broke my tooth but didn't put me off. The staff offered homemade dog biscuits for our pup which was a nice touch. My only let down of the place was where the customer toilet is. If we were to holiday in Bude again we would go back to urchins.
