Shirley's food is a Machynlleth institution and not to be missed. Make sure you check the ordering details on the website in plenty of time though!

Planned lunch here after browsing around Mach Wednesday market. Unfortunately we left it a bit late and arrived early afternoon rather than lunchtime so lots of the food was sold out. The food we did have however was absolutely incredible. Delicious kati rolls, one paneer and one falafel. Very reasonably priced too. The lady who runs the stall is lovely and the stall is clearly an integral part of the market by now! Real shame we didn't arrive earlier otherwise i would have tried everything on the menu. Highly recommend.

Really nice food just hope the weather is good so you can find somewhere to eat it outside.Cheap and made in front of you she'll guide you through what it is if you are new to the food. The Market has improved considerably in recent years, there are far more stalls selling quality fresh produce far better and cheaper than any Supermarket will ever do, you even speak to the proprietors who often add a bit extra. A few catering vans (Sadly the old Fish stall that was by the Institute has gone) have set up offering all types of exotic foods with local ingredients.Sadly she and them are only available on a Wednesday.

We have always meant to visit but never quite made it - until last week! I told the lady that this was my first visit and could she explain the menu. She was very friendly and chatty and ran through her menu and I was so tempted I bought the potato wrap, paneer wrap, samosa and garlic potato. The wraps are cooked fresh. They are rolled out in front of you and cooked to order. I noticed locals were buying lots of food. Presumably to take back to work to share with their colleagues. We took the food home and shared it. All the dishes were so so tasty. I will make a special point of visiting next time we are in Machynlleth. I suggest you do too.

Shirley cooks this all from scratch at home, including making her own paneer cheese. Really lovely kati rolls. Always interesting conversation. Warning: there will be a significant wait at lunchtimes, but she does have chairs to sit on and it is definitely worth it.

I’ve been buying my Wednesday lunch from Shirley’s magical kitchen on wheels for several years now. We always have a lovely banter and frankly it’s the best and most authentic Indian food I’ve ever tasted.

We had some lovely full flavoured food from Shirley at Ura Street Food recently. Let alone from the delicious food that was full of interesting flavours we got to meet Shirley who seemed so passionate about what she was doing and life!

Came here for lunch, you do have to wait a while as all the food is cooked to order. The owner is fun and friendly and has such a warm personality. We ordered a dal which was amazing so many layers of flavour, and a small amount of warmth that built over time. The wraps were tasty too and the fresh bread to die for. It was worth the wait in the rain.

The smells as you wait....mmmm There's a good selection of food Kati, dahls Ann's samosas. The samosas are devine and I guess how they should actually taste... what have I been missing all these years? I had a chilli panner Kati it was wonderful. I wish i lived closer.... can not speak highly enough of this vendor....it was being special

10/10 service and hearty home cooked indian street food at mac market. A real well seasoned gem in the heart of wales. A true artisan, the owner cares a lot for the quality of her ingredients & flavours. Something that is lacking in todays commercialised food industry ! A must visit when the market is open.

Wednesday is market day in Mach and when we are there we always try to attend. We were told about this street van selling fresh vegetarian food from the Indian sub-continent. On our two visits we both had wraps with a mild bu very tasty curry inside. The owner who makes and serves the lovely food is a pleasant and friendly lady who uses all natural ingredients for her own delicious recipes - a must go place on a Mach Wednesday!

This is one of the very best street food experiences I have ever had. If you have never tried vegetarian/vegan food before because perhaps you think it is all a bit hippyish, then do try this place out. All the dishes are fresh, and all of those that we tried were excellent quality, at a very fair price. I recommend you try, you will not be disappointed.

Consistently excellent food on a Wednesday at Machynlleth market. If she had a restaurant, i'd basically live there! The Kati Rolls are my favourite (Chilli Paneer to be exact). Great also if you want to talk cookery while your food is freshly prepared.

Me encanta.

I discovered this place two weeks ago and will now be returning every week. The food is delicious, authentic and the flavours are so well balanced. The lentil Daal with Panitha bread is awesome. Full of spinach and spices. Only £4.50!! I was stuffed. The food is also cooked in a way that makes you feel like it's doing you good. Much better than the other greasy Indian offerings from the other trailer. The woman is so welcoming and hospitable. She has fantastic stories to tell of her 18 years in India. Self taught cook who really knows her stuff. I'm head chef at a local restaurant and I will be recommending this place to others. Bravo! To the man below with a 1* rating...it's street food, where else do you serve street food other than on the street?! Durr.

The food was fine with a lovely smiling lady serving, but at the end of the day it is merely a trailer serving takeaway snacks one day a week on the market, while the reviews make it seem much more than it is.

Great food cooked with the best fresh ingredients. A total blessing for those looking for high quality indian street food - this surpasses the usual india restaurant experience. If you are an out of towner, its worth coming to the Machynlleth Market just for this (although there is of course some other amazing offerings!). Also good friendly chats while you wait - perfect.

...and served with a wry smile. Authentic Bengali home-style cuisine, alongside more eclectic, but no less tasty, innovations. It is a treat to sample the creations of someone so dedicated to her cooking - and dedicated to making it available to all. This little van is like a taste tardis, I have no idea how the magic works bur it goes like this, the talented Shirley takes all of Bengal and wraps it up in a chappati, adds somesunshine and a sprinkle of good conversation and you go on your way happy, with tingling tastebuds and a slightly yellow smile. It's so yummy!!

This food is so popular, you will have to get there early (mid morning) to beat the 12noon and 1pm rush! There is always a heathy crowd around shirley's stall, and plenty of good converation as you wait for the freshly prepared food. Panner Kati Roll especially recommended, but she also does dahl's, samosas and all kinds of interesting dishes. Menu slightly different each week. Shirely is always up for chatting with the constant stream of customers and it's refreshing to reframe your consumer attitude (that is so used to wanting everything fast and efficient) to one which appreciates a pause in the day to talk and eat good food. All the packaging is compostable too!

Thanks to the other reviews on here, I found Shirley's food van on my first visit to Mach market. It's a great place to meet people, seems to be a real community hub as Shirley knows all her customers and folk stand around chatting whilst waiting for their orders (everything is cooked fresh while you wait). But social life aside, this food may be simple but it is seriously good. The chili paneer kati rolls are the perfect snack on a cold day and the samosas are some of the best I have ever had. Was also lucky enough to attend one of Shirley's occasional cookery classes, which was very informative and great fun.

Ura Street Food gives you exactly what it says on the side of the van: a taste of Kolkata street food in mid-Wales. The van visits the Wednesday market in Machynlleth and, notwithstanding the fact that Machynlleth now has some pretty good restaurants, it is my favourite place to eat in the area. The food is really delicious and (for someone who has travelled in India) tastes very authentically Indian. It is all freshly made, right down to the paneer (indian cheese) and sauces used. Along with wraps, they sell very tasty samosas. Everything is vegetarian, everything is very reasonably priced and everything is incredibly tasty ... I love it (and so do the meat eating friends who I've taken there).
