The Raj of Forden in Powys

Notable that all the dishes were not too oily, spicy or salty, which can sometimes be the case from Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants.

This place was booked for a birthday meal, there was confirmation of the booking only a few days beforehand. We arrived on the day to a closed establishment with the line ringing out unanswered. Utterly disgusting service and would have ruined the evening if not for a lovely Italian place catering us instead. I would never come back again or recommend to others.

Great Takeaway. Do not have take away very often but when we do it is from the Raj. Food is always good .

Just moved down to welshpool from Bradford, so the stakes were high on finding an authentic curry place. From the pictures on Google it looked great, however what I received was far from it. Slop that looked like it was from a ready meal in a petrol station. Ordered a madras and there was no flavour and looked and tasted dreadful. The tikka starter was flavourless and the chapatis were soggy. We collected fresh so there is no excuse. Will not be going again

Literally the best Indian we've ever ever had ! The chicken was incredibly tender and the food was seasoned to perfection on holiday from South Wales but would contemplate driving up just for a meal ITS THAT GOOD

I can’t recommend this Indian highly enough it may put some off as it’s part of a traditional pub but there 2 separate parts and has a nice modern Indian feel to the restaurant and side bar. I’m a massive Indian fan and have eaten at many other Indians and Jaipur lounge in church stretton has always been one of our favourites along with the raj but after many meals between the 2 over the last few years the raj is our go to. Match is amazing he’s made me my own curry to my liking and if it’s not on menu he can usually make it foods alway fresh and well cooked ,he takes a lot of pride in his job him and all the staff are great. The only thing I would say is don’t turn up at 5pm as there usually busy prepping but def best Indian for miles😀😀😀

We used to get delivery ,or dine in, but not anymore as the delivery guy Rob Anderson of forden, assaulted broke in, and much much more to someone we know, terrified them broke the locks doors stalked stolen off them hounded them crashing and banging around to get in for 2 hours ,the person has now has to have cctv installed an other security measures because of him, and his disgusting ways, of dominating and tieing up gagging assaulting vulnerable women ,and kids a bit back, he assaulted a minor we found out , a very young girl and was dealt with then ,and it seems hes back to it now under many fake accounts on insta preying on people and living out his fetishs with tieing up gagging calling him self a Dom , some very worrying &weird stuff involving feet and degradation drives aroundwith ropes in his car ,you not safe with this* Thing this Rob * anywhere near you or yours ,so sorry Match, you are a lovely guy foods amazing , but we will not be back as a family this guys disgusting and needs to be dealt with .

1st time here tonight. Recommended by a friend all food was great and the service was second to none. It was probably one of the best Curry's that I have ever eaten to be honest. We will definitely be back to sample some more of the delights that the Raj has to offer.

Staff were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The curry was probably one the best I've ever had - and they do takeaway too. A real hidden gem in the Montgomeryshire countryside.

Only had a take away but service was friendly and food ready in a timely manner and was lovely.

We found the Raj to be in a lovely setting, with lovely views and the interior being tastefully decorated and very clean and tidy. The food was excellent, and we were allowed to order at our leisure, with small breaks in between. A very pleasant and relaxing evening.

What a find The Raj was. Really great staff who were really friendly. We had a take away for 8 people and it was all fabulous food. Will be definatly be going back here. Match (The owner) is a really great host.

We arrived to eat outside with our two dogs but it was a little cold and the owner allowed us to use a room that wasn't in use for other guests, talk about above and beyond super staff super friendly really felt welcome, and they have to be the best curry house in Forden as they were really very busy and they do tons of take aways and they deliver so you don't even need to leave your holiday spot really.. Thanks so much for your kindness much appreciated

Staff second t none food is amazing ! Well worth a visit

After reading the reviews on here, we were looking forward to our visit. A very friendly and attentive gentleman looked after us. The nice cold lager came from the adjoining pub part of the business I think. Very refreshing on a hot day. The poppadoms and pickle tray and the starters were great. The curry on one of the mains wasn’t piping hot when it arrived, so enthusiastically the waiter took back the half that was still in the dish to have it “warmed up”. The problem was that being so eager to please it left the other half on my plate! I pointed this out when the first half arrived back. Although he offered to take the other half back and warm that up too, I was just fed up with the whole experience and all the “faff”by then, so I only had half a curry. Disappointing really especially as I’m averse to having places warm stuff back up when it should have been hot in the first place, but as the rest of it and the other main courses were spot on, I’m still giving it 4*. As a result of this we were reluctant to go back.

Went with a friend who recommended we tried this Indian restaurant and we weren’t disappointed. The food was excellent, the service attentive and the restaurant decoration is classy. Views over the local scenery and hills was a great backdrop to a great evening.

We ordered food from this restaurant on a short stay locally was pleased to find they delivered, the person who answered the phone was pleasant and articulate and very easy to deal with, the delivery time was less than an hour, the food when it arrived was amazing, we never thought we could better our home Indian take away, I am glad they are not in York as would be in a turmoil every week !!! 100% recommend to eat here

We had our first takeaway from the Raj tonight, it was excellent. Notable that all the dishes were not too oily, spicy or salty, which can sometimes be the case from Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants. It was just right and absolutely delicious. Lamb tikka, incredible tasty dish done just right. Takka Dhal, perfect. Bindi Baji and Alu gobi, done in gee, fantastic. Naan breads, satisfying, although I wouldn’t have the Peshwari version again, I didn’t know it was sweet with honey and coconut. Not to my taste, but the garlic naan just right. Free extras, raita, salad, pappadoms. I think we’ll be making a habit of this… Thank you the Raj and well done!

We had a very tasty Indian take out from the Raj and the transformation of the tired old pub to a bar/restaurant/take-out, has to be seen to be believed.

First visit to this Indian restaurant just to try a local place but things could have been better ! First of all the place was cold and not too welcoming ! The seats were grubby with dirty stains ! Food was ok but not best we have had . Apparently one of the guys who run it was not there so they were a bit pushed ! We were one of only 2 couples in but service was slow . I doubt we will return .
