Upton Inn in South Gloucestershire

I've been wanting to come here for ages and so decided to celebrate my little one turning 2 with a proper Sunday roast at a local pub with our immediate family. We couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. We were a table of 11 (plus a high chair and a newborn!) We were kindly given the Captain's Table in a private dining space which was perfect for us, visiting with our grandparents who struggle to hear conversation in busier environments. We were so fortunate not to be rushed at all. All the members of staff we met were so attentive, frequently checking our drinks were topped up and that we had everything that we needed. The food was delcious, and despite being a busy Sunday and a large table, was delivered not long after ordering! Between us all meats on the menu were sampled, and all were delicious. Lots of clean plates! A great kids/toddler menu too which was reasonably priced with high quality food. A fantastic experience all round and we will be back for sure for other occasions. Tucked away in a beautiful spot, not far from Keynsham/Bitton/Saltford etc,... well worth a visit! Thank you so much for making our celebrations for my son exactly how we wished!!!

One of the best pubs! We had a local pint, gammon (not salty, thank you) and lamb pie. Amazing! Service was friendly, warm fire and I would go back in a heartbeat.

Popped in on the off chance, the new owners have certainly got this pub to a great standard, the food was great, nicely presented and very tasty. I had the chicken pie with mash and peas which is proper pub grub! Sadly I forgot to take pictures so I will have to go back 🤷 😂 deserts were really nice and it wasn’t expensive worked out around £20 pp so very happy Can’t comment on the alcohol, sadly I’ve given that up this year, the wine looked good and the beer even better, orange juice is what it is. The staff all very friendly and the atmosphere was really great, lots of people I haven’t seen for a while. It a pub well worth visiting. Their Sunday Roast and deserts are top drawer. Literally one of the best I've had. And I've eaten most of Bristol and the surrounding areas! Under a 30min drive from mine in north Bristol (Filton near UWE). We will be back. Save room for their deserts 😁

Had a very reasonably priced lunch. Bought extra chips that were to die for and the food was beautifully presented and delicious. It was followed by a very generous cheese board. Very welcoming hosts, and lovely building. Thank you for a very nice lunch. We will be back.

We haven't been to the Upton for a long time so decided to go for a Sunday roast. Well we weren't disappointed! The owners were very friendly and the staff too. The roast arrived very quickly and was delicious. We couldn't manage a pudding so decided to have one between the 3 of us and we had the pecan pie which was really lovely. Will we be returning - absolutely! 🙂

Just returned from a fabulous Sunday lunch at The Upton. Really can't fault the roast beef and all the trimmings. The apple crumble was also perfect. The dining area provided a cosy atmosphere along with excellent attentive service. We will definitely be back.

Came here for a pint (or two) after finishing a job round the corner. Liked it so much came back with my partner for lunch on the weekend. Staff, food, drink and interior decor are brilliant! I’d thoroughly recommend! A genuine country pub done right!

I’ve heard good reviews about The Upton Inn since it came under new ownership so visited for the Sunday Lunch. We ordered a Beef and a Pork Roast. Both were delicious with lovely veg and Yorkshire puds, tasty gravy and the best crackling too! The sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I’ve ever had, not too heavy and just the right portion size. It was very busy but we were seated straight away and the service throughout the entire visit was top notch. It’s great to have a lovely pub with really good food in our area and I highly recommend The Upton Inn

We stopped at this charming old pub on our way from Cornwall. What a delightful way of breaking up our journey! The pub is full of character, very spacious and we and our two whippets were welcomed warmly and given a lovely table by the fireplace. We had the ribeye steak and the mussles and shared the asparagus starter. All the food was very tasty and excellently executed by the chef!! Thank you!

Had tea here while staying on a nearby campsite. Loved it: excellent food (including great vegan options), fab service and very dog friendly.

I had my 60th birthday meals with friends. The meal were absolutely amazing. The waiter Mark was brilliant 👏. Definitely go back with my husband.

Wonderful place. Found this pub by accident during a Sat Nav 'Magical Mystery tour' one day and opted to come back. Had an excellent Sunday roast which hit all the right spots for me! No complaints here - try it out!

Very friendly and warm welcome from the staff and locals. Dog friendly which is a big plus for us. Nice freshly cooked hot and tasty food.

Wow, what a wonderful experience! Glorious pastoral setting and a beautiful historic building, recently refurbished to contemporary standards but still retaining all the charm of a proper, long-established country pub. Food is accessible to all, from families to couples by way of casual get-togethers and those in search of an upper-crust foodie experience, all at a properly affordable price-point. Fabulous local, seasonal produce is pushed to the fore, and service/vibe is excellent - there's honestly, genuinely nothing NOT to love here. I may live in Bath, but The Upton Inn is my new 'local'!

Probably the most Beautiful Country Pub in Bristol? This pub run by a lovely couple is tucked away in Upton, just 10mins off the ring road. It honestly has to be the prettiest pub I've seen for a long time. It really gives you a really cosy feeling... 😁 We tried the Sunday Roast, we had: 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: - Chicken & black pudding terrine with apricot ketchup - Wye Valley asparagus, parma ham and ricotta 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀: - Topside of Beef - Chicken Breast 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵- - Roasted Potatoes - Carrot - Red Cabbage - Broccoli - Cauliflower Cheese - Yorkie pudd 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀: - Cheesecake with coulis - Dark Chocolate Mousse, Hazelnuts & Roasted white chocolate. The food was good and enjoyable, the cauliflower cheese and mousse were top 👌 The terrine was great too, the hardest job was picking from all the delicious sound starters. Had a very enjoyable birthday celebration meal tonight. The food was lovely, a traditional quality pub meal where the staff were attentive and friendly, particularly Ellie and Julian. We would thoroughly recommend it, and we will be back (probably before our pre wedding celebrations in a few weeks). Thank you

Went for evening meal, booked a table as looked so nice driving on way to Dyrham House. What a gem! Had beef pie, husband lamb pie. Very reasonably priced, puddings Trillonaires tart and chocolate mousse. Excellent. , immaculately decorated in unusual style, obviously lots of thought gone i to it. Noticed waiters spot on with cleaning tables too. We really recommend it.

Beautiful pub, location, service & food! Great Veggie options (vegan upon request). The beetroot nut roast was lovely! Lots of flavours. Yummy cocktails too Will be returning :)

Had a lovely working lunch here today - first visit for me for many years for one reason or another. Will be booking Sunday lunch very soon and loving the sound of Pie Night! Enjoyed lunch today, dressed crab for my colleague, fish and chips for me; both very enjoyable - tasty and filling. Loved meeting the new landlord Julian - reminded me very much of my Dad when he was a pub landlord, they are few and far between now, sadly. See you soon after a decent walk!

Nice country pub but prices seem unrealisticly high.

I had the hake, which is a new fish to me, and two of my companions had a large tasty bowl of soup which was a meal in itself with a generous portion of focaccia. From the friendly helpful service to the interesting decor to the lovely food I have to give it 5 stars all round.

Food, decor, service all great. A really relaxed, clean pub. Our first visit and we will definitely come back. The only thing I’d say is that I understand that this pub is a Freehold (fantastic), there’s so many great local beers you could get in, rotate a local line or something. But it’s only very recently reopened, so maybe that will come.

Really great pub. The brisket burger is fantastic and the desserts are excellent. Welcoming staff and lovely decor makes a brilliant vibe in this pub. Muddy tired walkers and their dogs welcome too.

Called in after a while to check the place out after the latest closure. Paid £5.45 for a pint of real ale (?!!) Meals? Starters average £8.00 a bottle of wine averages £30. My advice? Stay close to Home, the Blue Bowl recommend. If you're a wealthy local with money to burn go for it! Feedback from My thousands of Followers across the South West very welcome!

Such a charming place! Absolutely loved the decor and every room had a cool, unique feel. Lovely delicious pub grub, great atmosphere and very friendly staff, nice outdoor space as well. Can’t wait to come back. Big car park as well!

Really quite disappointed with our most recent visit after the refurbishment ☹️ We’ve been coming here for over 15 years and were so excited to hear it had been taken over. Unfortunately, there really wasn’t much choice for the vegetarian on our table however we weren’t put off by this and continued to order. When the food arrived, it wasn’t terrible by any means, just very lacklustre considering the increase in price. It is very clear the staff and landlord here are working extremely hard to make this a success, we just weren’t overwhelmed this time.

Visited for the first time with the new owners this evening and what a lovely welcome and homely feel! We both enjoyed the two fish dishes (plaice and battered hake) and both very nice as was the apple crumble with clotted cream! Real coffee too! How nice to have this open again on our doorstep.. we will be back!

Great refurbishment of this old pub. Quality food at a very reasonable price. Lovely atmosphere. They make their own gins which alone are worth the trip. Will definitely be back as our new favourite.

Having visited The Upton for many years I can honestly say my most recent visit, under the new management, is the best yet. Attentive service, a comfortable yet captivating atmosphere alongside an exquisite Sunday roast made for a phenomenal meal experience. Thanks Julian & team

First time visit - stoped in on a Saturday lunchtime for a refreshing cider and packet of crisps whilst walking. Friendly service and reasonable price. Felt inviting. Sat in the beer garden/patio Good modern furniture. Lovely sun trap and sheltered for the wind. Could of stayed longer but had more walking to do. Would definitely come back.

Went for a roast. The yorkshires, gravy and veg were nice but the meat wasn’t overly generous and the roast potatoes are like school roasties. The service was a bit haphazard and awkward at times. It will hopefully get there but lots of empty planters and so, for the high price point, it doesn’t currently manage to compete with The Cross House at Doynton for the same price. Hopefully they’ll invest in the outside a bit. Felt a little like special occasion pricing without the quality and comfort.

Cosy pub that does a seriously delicious Sunday Roast and the best salmon risotto I’ve ever had. There’s also a great walk you can do nearby if you need to work up an appetite for the generous portions!

Great pub, fantastic service and atmosphere. Would recommend the pub's own strawberry and peppercorn gin. I didn't go for the food but will come back as the food looked great.

Unbelievable food, best fish and chips I've ever had ! The smell of the open fire the decor the lighting the staff the ambiance. Absolutely loved it desserts served with amazing clotted cream absolutely delicious !

Wonderful to have such a decent new team now running the Upton. The feel is cosy, the food is tasty and the welcome is old school. And they sell Boondoggle & Directors (and a wine list that is distinctly “unpublike”. Just go and see a decent pub with great grub. Yipeeeeeee

We all like our roast dinners done how we like them and it continues to amaze me that restaurants think it's OK to pore copious amounts of gravy on the dish... after donning my arm bands, I craved a simple small gravy boat... seems like a small issue, but it makes a big difference. Don't want to bash them, but overall it was expensive for a standard meal... Good luck all the same, I doubt that my little moan will make a jot of difference, but you did ask... ATB :o)

Lovely pub in a really nice, peaceful location. Food was excellent and a friendly atmosphere. Dog friendly and there's a good circular walk from Swineford Picnic Area through North Stoke. Worth a visit. Check the opening times as don't think they're open every night.

Hands down one of the best pub meals we have had for a very long time with great service and friendly welcome. Has a dog station with treats and water. Wouldn’t hesitate to return

Really welcoming, friendly staff, very dog friendly. Food was excellent and the pub is a lovely, rustic pub but with clean and well maintained facilities. We had a wonderful time.

We came for lunch yesterday where the menu was varied and catered well for coeliacs and allergies. The portions are very generous and the staff efficient.

I hadn't been for many years & it was nice to see that the pub hadn't changed that much since my last visit. Although I didn't really notice at the time, I was surprised to later realise that I'd been charged over £10 for a rum & coke & a pint of lime & soda. I appreciate that running costs have escalated over the last few months, but that surely that's over the top....?

Dont be fooled by the photos, when we went on a chilly weekday lunchtime; both fireplaces were stone cold and only matched by a perfunctorily reception from the manageress ... left after one drink and not inclined to return.

We came out of the blue. Lovely place and nice staff. Dog friendly and the place to big enough to have a few dotted around with no issues. We dnt have a dog, but we appreciate the space from them. We had a round of deserts as a birthday treat. Apple crumble was very tasty and I loved it. Plenty of parking too.

Had the Christmas menu. Great service, Staff really friendly. Good food . Prices were reasonable. You can take dogs with you inside. Blankets and cushions available. Casual dress. Country pub. Definitely go back . Car park .

Lovely pub tucked out of the way. Very quiet which was strange when I attended on a Saturday night. Went for the Chicken Tandoori Burger.... Wow if you like a curry and burgers this is a thing of beauty. A lovely burger with great flavour, seasoning and garnishes (5/5). Couldn't fault it. Sticky Toffee on the other hand lacked toffee flavour and was bland and was just a basic sponge (2/5).

Weren't doing any food at 3pm - I paid £16 for 2 packets of crisps, a blackcurrant squash and a pint of birra morretti....seems very expensive!!

We popped in for lunch today(Saturday). Lovely pub, very pretty. We ordered food for 4 adults and 1 child, ranging from burgers to fishcakes and a child's pizza and all were yummy! The lady who served us was very friendly and helpful. Overall a fantastic visit. Will be visiting again.

The Upton Inn has really improved the quality of it's food offering. Lovely Sunday Roast and weekday menu is definitely the best in the immediate local area.

We came here for lunch as we we’re staying nearby, the food was absolutely amazing. So good we came back for dinner two days later again food was brilliant couldn’t fault it. The service is great too, if we’re ever nearby again we will be back. This little pub is 100% worth a visit.
