The Swan Tytherington in South Gloucestershire

Perfect meal out just before Christmas on a busy day. The staff were fantastically attentive and seemed to always check in at the perfect times. We didn't wait to long for food or deserts even with a table of 8. Will definitely be back!

I have been a patron of the Swan for many years (I'm old enough to remember the 'Tytherington steak' that was popular in the early 90's!). The current owners have got it pretty much bang on. Good selection of beers. Food is generally very good, if not a little expensive. The reason for the 4 stars on the service is when we booked a table for 4 and were subsequently emailed to be told we would be having the Christmas menu so everyone had to have 3 courses even though 2 of the party only wanted 2 courses. Other people who just booked a table and turned up were clearly able to order whatever they wanted from the normal menu. Would have been nice to be told the normal menu was also available. Not a big deal but felt a bit misled.

Really great food served by lovely people. Always good here. Drinks service food and a great atmosphere. Went again for christmas lunch wasn't as good as last time abit if a shame. But still great service and atmosphere.

Had an amazing Slow cooked Shin of Beef

Stopped here overnight in our camper on our way home to Plymouth from the Lake District. Lovely food, and very friendly staff. Great value for money, will definitely stop again when on the road. Thank you

Very nice and quality food. I had the beef brisket burger and my other half had the herb crust hake with chorizo crushed new potato and beurre blanc. Unexpected the quality and how nice was.

We came to The Swan as a party of 10 celebrating a birthday. When we brought a cake we were told that we would be unable to eat it on the premises as it is their policy. We have never been to a restaraunt that didn’t allow us to eat a birthday cake and the reason given was so that we would spend money on dessert. We found this very bemusing and backfired only for the restaraunt as we decided to not buy any further drinks nor order desserts/ coffees and teas to have with our cake as we would normally do in this situation. Not a very inviting atmosphere. Food was also average. If you are coming here for a birthday celebration please do not bring cake! Also management clearly lie- having replied to this review by stating we left the taps running??? No female members of our group went to the bathroom during our dinner and we certainly would never do something like that- your supervisor misheard.

Lovely pub, staff polite, good selection of drinks. My only criticism would be the tables by the exit to the toilets, they can be a little cold and devoid of atmosphere, so ask to be in the bar area.

Great food, great service and nice atmosphere.

Called in whilst staying nearby for work, lovely little rustic pub with a log burner giving it that cosy feel. Staff were super friendly and found me a table even with it being busy, could not fault the service at all. Had the red wine lasagne, credit to the chef it was incredible. Sticky toffee pudding was also perfect!

I went here for Sunday lunch today with my husband, baby and cousins. On arrival the reception was so warm and friendly. The service was continuously warm and professional from there on! The food we ordered; whitebait, halloumi and beef shin croquette and all had the roast beef was absolutely delicious! I would say that the roast beef was one of the best roast beef I have ever had - superb!! I would definitely love to return!

The playlist was great not too loud. Lighting soft but you can still read the menu. Which was full of special treats and something different. I ate the wild mushrooms on bruschetta and the seasoning was spot on as was the sauce they were in creamy but not overpowering. I had pheasant with apple and celeriac and fondant potato and tender stem broccoli. I can’t recommend this dish enough it came with a gravy so good I had to drink it. My husband loved his gammon steak and chips. For desert I recommend the blackberry sorbet. The had a good veggie option and something a bit different as well as pub classics. Staff were friendly and attentive but not intrusive. I will definitely be back. Would have added a photo but the food was too good to wait. Great value.

Superb meal here. One of the, if not the, best pub burgers I've ever had. Beef and Ale Pie was top notch too. Highly recommended! Update: we still love this pub/restaurant. Friendly staff, fantastic food and a great selection of ales and wines. Very, very happy to have The Swan as our local. The Beer Garden is also fabulous and highly recommended. Great stop on a bike ride or a hike. Plenty of space and shade.

Sunday lunch. Noisy and busy. Meat Roasts were reported as good by my friends. Vegetarian nut roast not good....Hardly any nuts and stodgy. I would say veggy pudding rather than nut roast. Meal was over salted especially the gravy which must have contained a tub of gravy granules...food was warm at best. At the price paid really not worth it ...Been a vegetarian for over 40 years but find it very difficult to get a decent nut roast anywhere....

Stopped by for Sunday roast lunch with friends. Staff were amazing, portions were very generous, turkey, pork, Yorkshire puddings and veggies were great but cannot recommend the beef which was a little difficult to cut and chewy to eat.

Just returned from a weeks break in Wotton under Edge. The Swan is a 10 minute drive from where we stayed. I would’ve travelled 1hour and 10 minutes quite happily as this place is a hidden gem!! The food is amazing, the service is friendly and professional. We ended up eating here three times this week!! It’s that good!! I simply cannot recommend this place enough. Wil definitely be back.

How about a ride out to the countryside to this wonderful village pub,loads of history and character.Met with very friendly and polite staff,the service was first class and very quick.The food was 5 star definitely, highly recommended and a worthwhile drive out even from warmley,had to have a revisit today,couldn't wait and had the pie of the day served by the gorgeous Kerrie,exceptional service as usual from her and so quick,absolutely stacked out when we left,recommend reserving a table rather than being disappointed, Enjoy your meal

We had a fantastic lunchtime meal here with my cousin and her friend. The autumn menu is great so it was difficult to choose and there were so many lovely choices. The food was superb, the service great as always. My cousin is from Denmark and fell in love with the pub. Such a great place

Such an amazing experience! I booked for my father’s 55th birthday, having only been here once before I knew the food was good and it would be a place he would enjoy. My dad instantly started going on about how this place will be his ‘go to’ from now on when we are celebrating an occasion or for a nice meal. We arrived and were seated to our table instantly which had a card wishing my father a happy birthday (lovely touch team!) Food was brilliant, I did change some of my order from the standard and was all accommodated by the chef which I’m forever grateful. Although I didn’t catch her name, the lady who served us with blonde hair and glasses you made us have such a nice time and we didn’t feel ‘bothered’ by the staff coming over too early to check the food was okay, but not too late you’d finished your meal. 100% will be coming back soon!

Very nice roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and vegetables and delicious red wine gravy. Only criticism, the meal could have been served hotter.

We had a fairly enjoyable but standard Sunday Lunch. The beef was tasty but incredibly difficult to cut & the gravy had an overpowering flavour of yeast extract. However the deserts were excellent & the staff very friendly & helpful. It was all OK and although I would eat here again if nearby, I wouldn't drive out of my way to go here.

Booking was hard as we were a large party of 14 so tried to book online and then had to ring and add more people as can only book to 9 people online. We booked for 5.30pm but when I added to booking it was changed to 6.30pm without me knowing. We had to pre order our food. When we arrived they told us we were early and would try and fit us in at 6pm, however bar and garden weren't busy and thought it was odd, as our original booking for 5.30pm had been fine when I rang. Service at table wasn't great but bar service was. I felt we had annoyed the waiting person because I had argued about booking time as he was very attentive to the large table sat next to us. Food was excellent and garden and play area superb.

Lovely pub bit pricey the lime and soda but very nice service and atmosphere.

There were 7 Humans and 5 dogs in our party, which we specified when booking. Having the dogs were important as we were saying goodbye to the foster doggie (guide dog). When we arrived the landlady rolled her eyes to a colleague and said loud enough for us to hear ‘we should have agreed to no dogs’, which obviously made us feel uncomfortable. The waitress was miserable and it just felt like we weren’t welcome. Food was 10/10 for me, only complaints were it wasn’t hot enough for some and the veggies were lacking, there were 2 bowls of leek in cheese sauce and 2 bowls of mixed veg, probably could have done with another 1 of each as we had to halve broccoli so everyone could have a little bit. The roasts do come out with an extra gravy boat but we asked for another which wasn’t brought until we asked again. Hoping it was just a bad day and will give them another go but, with low expectations.

A sunday lunch with work colleagues and a small dog should have gone smoothly, as the booking was checked some weeks previously for being in a dog friendly spot, but when we got there the information had been left off the booking. However, the staff bent over backwards and the half hour delay for another table was well worth it so many thanks there. The yorkies were massive (although in my opinion they're always just a space filler) and the roasters were divine. The leeks in cheese could have been cut smaller than a small tree though and the broccoli was virtually uncooked, thats the only reason for the four star rating though, that and the reason the elusive five star rating is set at the miners arms in Sling and so far it remains unparalleled. Many thanks to the staff for the excellent service!

Enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch. Bit of o mix up on arrival as we'd booked a dog friendly table, but not available when we arrived. We changed the time we eat, and all was well.

Another incredible Sunday roast at The Swan Tytherington. The meat was cooked to perfection and the cheesecake of the day (chocolate orange) was delicious. Staff were super friendly and food came out very fast!

Booked for Sunday lunch. Arrived for our 12pm booking and the service we received from start to finish was excellent. We ordered the turkey and the mixed meat roast. Wasn’t disappointed. Food arrived quickly and was one of the best roast dinners I’ve had. And the raspberry cheesecake…. wow. Can’t wait to come back.

We had a lovely birthday lunch for mum. Food was great - I had braised ox cheek which was superb. We’ve also had large family xmas meals here which have always been great.

We stopped here Saturday night for the maiden voyage in our Campervan. We were treated warmly and the food was amazing. We were the only Campervan and had a peaceful nights sleep. Would happily recommend and will be definitely staying again.

Nice pub and atmosphere but the service was very much below par. We had to find a waitress to order a drink, then to order our mains and after 30 minutes of trying to get someone's attention for dessert we gave up and went to find someone to pay, another 20 minutes later we left. Food was nice but order extra veg because the mains doesn't come with a lot of it if you are used to bigger meals. Overall did not feel very welcoming and took far too long to get served. Would choose to go elsewhere due to this.

Lovely place! Great good - well worth the visit

The pub is a good location off M5 motorway travelling north or south. We stayed overnight on their large flat car park with good access. No charge for stay when using pub. Food menu was very good and we enjoyed our pie of the day and the vegetarian lasagne. The front of house manager was so friendly,helpful and hard working.

Mother's day! Rang to enquire for last minute booking just for 2. Accommodated us, warned us it was set menu only, which was fine by us and so glad they did, amazing food, such great quality and flavours. 2 or 3 courses. We started with 2 courses but it was so lovely we wanted to try more. Within an hour of phoning we had sat, had starters, and our roasts. A bit of a pause then we had pudding mmmmm. We don't live close but we will Def be back. Thank you to all staff, you made our difficult day feel special.

A birthday treat !! I ordered macaroni cheese ,, it was warm ,and inedible, there were bits of what tasted like pieces of hard pasta ,, when I asked the waitress that it was inedible she gave me no apology just asked if I wanted another one !! But that wasn’t the only thing wrong with it !! It was floury and no taste of cheese at all ,, I could have made a much better one ,,! The price was expensive,,I hardly touched it ,but they didn’t take it off the bill ,, horrible experience

We came here for somewhere different to go to celebrate a big birthday. Sadly we didn’t have a good time. The food was alright, unfortunately the homemade birthday cake we bought in to have after our meal wasn’t allowed!! We were not allowed the birthday cake due to it being the pubs policy!! Also they said at the end when we queried it that it’s a family pub! Clearly not when we were not allowed to eat some birthday cake! Also they said they give a free dessert! We were not shown any dessert menus and we were not told this until after the bill came: clearly don’t like having a party of 7 fully grown adults! Also the waiter with the pony tail in his hair cough and sneezed into his polo shirt a few times with a tea towel over his shoulder: how germ infested could that be? Unfortunately we WILL NOT BE RETURNING!! Do not go to this pub if you want to celebrate birthdays!! VERY INAPPROPRIATE REPLY FROM YOURSELVES! DISGUSTING AND VERY RUDE!

The pub is very nice and warm. The staff were very kind and helpful, and the food is tasty. I'm sure we'll visit again when we are coming back to walk to this area.

It was the first time I have been in here despite the fact I cut the grass in the church opposite from March to September. It was my fiancées birthday so we went there with her children. It's beautiful inside with a lovely atmosphere. The food was fantastic and it came quicker than a lot of other places. We will definitely return again soon.

Good food, large car park and decent service. Nothing to complain about, would happily come here again. Cheesy garlic bread is good, though I would prefer it with more garlic. Potions are of good size and the prices are reasonable.

Had Sunday lunch. Several GF options. We chose the 3 meat roast. The meats were perfectly cooked Veg selection varied and well cooked. Several GF desserts available.

Good pub grub, but my eggs with ham and chips were overcooked unfortunately.

2nd time in 2 weeks we've eaten here , Friday 10th a table of 8 friends, everyone was delighted with food, staff and overall service. Will be back soon 👍

Nice birthday meal for our nephew, in a busy oldie worldy type of pub. Nice surroundings but zero mobile signal which was frustrating. Well worth a visit.

First visit to The Swan, what a great pub and restaurant, our Sunday dinners were lovely and very big, a really relaxing atmosphere, the staff were great and our only regret was we couldn't manage (too full) to try the lovely looking desserts. We will be back with friends and highly recommend The Swan, what a great find.

We were lucky to find this lovely family run pub/restaurant. We are staying at De Vere Tortworth Court and were not at all impressed with thier service or food. We came here on Saturday at about 2pm had really tasty sandwiches and returned on Sunday to have roast pork and roast beef. Both were truly fantastic, the best roasts we ever had. We finished with apple crumble and sticky toffee puding both were really lovely. Home made, light and delicious. All for £76. If we lived here we'd come for lunch or dinner every time we went out. Service was excellent and all the team were superb.

Turned off a bug build up on the M5 to find lunch and cans across this fine village pub. Sat in the patio in the sun and enjoyed steak and ale pie and lasagne. Nice pint of Butcombe. Food freshly cooked but not too long a wait.

Great food friendly staff, nice warm cosy atmosphere. Will definitely go back, highly recommend the rib burger and the kedgeree.

Had an amazing meal here Sunday 13th August 2023. Always fancied ordering a cauliflower dish off a menu but was always tempted by something else, boy am I glad I did! This starter of tempura cauliflower with pickled carrot and sweet chilli sauce absolutely blew my mind. It was phenomenal. I would highly recommend this dish. The roast was lovely too, it's so difficult to find somewhere that serves roast pork with crackling on a Sunday. It was delicious. 10/10. The restaurant was full, not a single empty table, the service was prompt and courteous. All the staff had a smile on their faces, we will be back. Well done the Swan at Tytherington 👏👏👏👏

Great food, locally sourced & reasonably priced; an excellent traditional pub for a bar meal or restaurant dining with a large garden for outdoor eating and drinking when the weather permits.

Lovely pub, great staff, a couple of issues with the food which were resolved very efficiently, but otherwise no issues. Can bring your dog if you wish but must call ahead to ensure you can get in.

The pub was recommended to us by a lady who lives in the area (we live in Lincolnshire). We were booked in for Sunday lunch with our 2 year old Labrador - we did have a situation with our dog and the staff were absolutely outstanding with accommodating us outside to help with his anxiety. The food was great and we would definitely return - but perhaps without the dog next time!!!

Although nice the staff were a little stand backish...not how i see bar staff should be, it wasn't busy either. Maybe I felt a bit 2nd class..not the normal customer's they'd expect.

Never had a bad meal here, been going every few months for several years now. Dogs are allowed in the bar area which is great, but recommend asking for a table near the wall so they don't get overwhelmed as can be busy.
