Always looking for someplace new to eat, we stopped in today for a late brunch and were not disappointed. We had seen the menu online before arriving so we knew what was in store for us. We indulged in seasonal greens, lamb stew and bircher and chia muesli and everything was very well presented and tasted delicious. We washed it all down with oat milk chai lattes - yum! The staff were kind and the place was clean and tidy. We'll be back!

OMG what a very hippy looking place , maybe aimed at uni lot , but still a really lovely place to eat. My first visit and will definatly return . I had the fritarta with salad both lovely . And real tea too , but no strainer so had bits in my tea but didn't take away the lovely flavour . Staff very friendly . I had banana cake for dessert but that was a little dry for my taste . Thanks for a lovely lunch .

I’ve been to this cafe several times now and been thoroughly impressed every time. The food is an excellent quality and full of flavour, along with perfect coffee and friendly service. Pricing is really good for the quality of offerings.

This place really does have that hipper-than-thou vibe, which may put some people off. (Not me: uncool and unbowed!) However, the coffee and baked goods are sublime. I haven't tried the brunch dishes/other menu items (yet) but their cardamom buns are hauntingly good. Not the cheapest coffee spot but it's definitely worth it as a treat, or as motivation/self-bribery on the way to work. ;-) Service is generally good and often great.

The food was promptly, nicely made and served. The coffee was disappointing: a filter coffee (very lightly roasted I was told) very tasteless. The Uprising only serves Origin coffee from Cornwall. The main disappointment came for the barista's attitude. Maybe a bad day for him? Very detached from the entire situation. This was the case throughout my visit with other customers too, as I first thought that I said something hurtful. I bought a cinnamon bun to eat later on during my train journey which was pleasantly tasty. The place is nicely designed with great details such as spaces for coats but it needs a buzz.

Me and some friends were working in Exeter for a week and stayed around here. Had a delicious coffee and Turkish eggs here on our first day and then returned the next day and was told they’d stopped serving the breakfast menu even though it said it was served until midday and we got there at 11. Tried again the next day as we thought it must have been a one off but had the same response. It’s a shame the service didn’t match the quality of the food and coffee.

I have been a huge fan of the bakehouse well before its recent re brand , re launch and takeover by Origin coffee roasters, in reverse order. Being a vegan and enjoying a flat white I have to pay a preimium for the Barista oat milk , which makes a cup top out at £3.30 !!! yes £3.30. Is this the most expensive cup of oaty flat white in the UK ? is it worth it ? YES if you can run to it. But I limit myself to one cup, ask for it hot and then sit over it. The coffee is just one of the excellent things to look forward to here, the simple food is knockout good, mushrooms on sourdough will whet the appetite of any hungry vegan. The short order chef knows her grill and has a great smile, if that is not a politically correct observation please forgive me.

I was here in march 2018, just few weeks after the opening. The coffee is really amazing and the barista is really good in coffee and cappuccino preparation. The cakes are really good, I had the carrot cake and a pain au raisins. The place is quiet and good for breakfast or for teatime.

This is my local coffee shop and it’s absolutely ideal. I swing by for a coffee to go on my way to work, but can also bring friends for a long relaxed brunch. I’m veggie and most of my friends are vegan and there’s options for all of us. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff make this place even more special. I had the sourdough French toast special this morning and it was amazing. I recommend this place to everyone!

From the initial phone call to book a table (online booking is also available) through to paying the bill, the service was exceptional. One of our group ordered the burger which we hadn't seen on the menu here previously and it was a very welcome addition. The menu was varied and catered for the majority of dietary needs and suited all tastes within our group of eight. Both the food and the drinks were of a very high standard and the whole experience was memorable for all the right reasons, even the regulars of the pub were helpful, polite and courteous. The whole feel of the venue was one of traditional pub (with many local ales) alongside a commitment to providing great quality food and drink as a whole.

Best Sunday roast in a very long time. The sharer was outstanding and the vegetarian roast was divine. Great service from Maxim and food from Marek

We were visiting my son in Exeter for the weekend. We had a very warm welcome on each of the 3 days we went into The Stand Off. The staff were lovely, kind and very friendly. The Steak & Ale pie I had on the Friday night was amazing and the Sunday lunch was tasty, filling and very well priced. The choice of beers offered is extensive and the pub has a great friendly atmosphere. They even had a live band on Saturday night who were very good. All in all a wonderful weekend venue for our visit and I would highly recommend the whole experience. Well done to everyone involved with the ownership, management and excellent staffing of this exceptional pub/restaurant. We will most definitely be back when we next visit my son.

Been a regular for nearly a year. Well run, with great staff – an engaging, eclectic team giving the whole place a friendly, family-run feel. Linda (manager) provides freshly-prepared snacks and fascinating playlists (always interesting, never intrusive).
