Great tasty hot cup of coffee, reasonably priced and clean tables, we would definitely use it again as it's close to Exeter Central

This is hands down the best flat white we have ever had, and we have had many. I dream about this coffee. We stumbled upon this somewhat quiet and unassuming place when visiting Exeter and it is a true hidden gem. The barista was weighing stuff and taking temperatures like she was making art. These people know coffee. We will always come here now whenever we are down this way!

Very cosy and quiet. The staff are super lovely. They also now have USB ports at their new bar bench in case you’re stopping in to do some work.

The coffee and food may be very good but the lack of interpersonal skills of the owner are unbelievable.

Devon coffee has become my second home! I moved to England a year ago and was very dissatisfied with the coffee everywhere I went, I thought I would be helpless when it came to my caffeine kicks. As a coffee enthusiast, finding Devon coffee was beyond a pleasure for me. They use an independent coffee roasting shop, local in Exeter, for their beans and grind. Meaning each drink supports two local, independent businesses at once. This place not only makes you feel welcome, but continuously brings you in as a community. It is not just the owner, workers, but also the customer base that shows face here everyday. Consistently well crafted drinks, consistent service is all you can really ask for. At Devon coffee, that’s just the base of their service. Thank you Linda, in particular for making a difference in my experience here in Exeter.

Easily the best coffee in Exeter and has improved infinitely more with the new ownership and management (bear this in mind as this only happend in the past month, so older reviews may not be as relevant). Attracts a nice range of true coffee lovers, without pretentiousness, and there is literally nowhere to find a better coffee in the city (or probably the entire county!). Food and cakes used to be a bit hit and miss, but the new management has clearly fixed that and now there's a great selection, good deals, and it's clear there is a new energy and loads of daily improvements, on what was already a great cafe. It's one of those places that once you discover, you find it hard not to become a regular. Five stars and hats off to the new owners and manager for taking a great cafe and making it even better. Bear in mind it's a small space and popular, but worth queuing if you want a real coffee.

Without doubt the best coffee in town by far. An absolute gem of a place.

Batch brew coffee at Devon coffee in the heart of Exeter. Brewed on a mocha master the coffee was delicate and fruity. A beautifully designed interior using salvaged timber panels and church pews.

Without a shadow of doubt the worst coffee we have ever had. Both my wife’s and my coffee had a strange sour taste. My wife thought the milk was off but as I only ever have a black coffee that can be discounted. So sour I could not drink it. Avoid this place.

Best coffee. Always go here for a takeaway coffee. 😊 But no toilet 🚽... I wouldn't ever drink or eat in.

Bad place. Not busy. Very poor service. My wife’s breakfast arrived 15 mins before mine. Mine had the added delight of a lovely long hair on it. Shame. Try to support local independent businesses. Not this one again.

Great little cafe - tasty cinnamon toast for that all important sugar hit, good coffee, relaxing atmosphere and ideal for lone diners wanting to grab a bite to eat. *Point to note - there's currently no toilet on the premises.

Fantastic service, brilliant coffee and scrumptious food- must try the cannoli! Easily the best coffee spot in the city. Perfect way to ease into a Sunday.

I'm gluten free so its hard to find somewhere where they do great soya flat whites...however these guys do! Haven't tried cakes but they look good

I always liked it here but…there has been a few times I have noticed a older lady with glasses act rude and short tempered with people,myself included! I have just read other reviews and I believe it’s actually the owner. Exceptional way to run a business 🙄 the customers are your bread and butter! Cannot stand rude nonchalant people

‏Cosy atmosphere and tasty food; Unfortunately it is my first time to feel I am unwelcome because the mean behavior of one of the ladies (the younger lady is kind and respectful). My friend told me that she was treated badly by the same lady before. Really life is too short to hate others who do not belong to your culture and in all cases I did not come to have food for free..I will never come back to this place since Exeter is full of cafes that have “human” staff.

Incredible coffee and chilled vibes

Lovely little coffee shop, will definitely visit again. Tasty food, we had a sausage roll, tea cake and cake along with two very tasty coffees. Good service too. Nice layout with little corners to tuck yourself away. So nice to be able to support independent coffee shops, much prefer them to the chains that pop up everywhere, one just next door. Instead of going to these chains, support the small independent coffee shops like this lovely one ☕👌😊 thank you

They do the best cappuccino ever!!! The care the barista takes for every single coffee is incredible. Amazing! I have been visiting Exeter just for a few days and since I discovered this café I start my mornings there. Staff is also very nice. Please support indie coffee!

Between the delightful 95p tiny cannoli, friendly staff, and first rate coffee this place checks all the boxes. It’s such a good location to pop in while shopping in Exeter. The dirty chai and flat white are consistently delicious!

Perfect coffees and light bite! My usual, a decaf latte, was delicioussss. Absolutely spot on temperature (not scalding hot) and texture (not too thin or too much foam), strength/taste was pretty good ie strong enough and not bitter, but there was a slight lacking of depth or something. Could have been the fact it was decaf coffee (although I've had these in the past with more flavour/depth) or the cups were just marginally too big even for a double shot, but the coffee was so good overall it didn't really matter. My mum's dirty chai latte was excellent, not horribly sweet or powdery, again perfect temp/tecture. Our cheese/ham and cheese/chili chutney croissants were to die for - so filling for a reasonable price (£3.60 I believe), so moist and melty (we had them hot), very well seasoned, just delicious. Staff were super friendly, surroundings were really chill, what a gorgeous little find in Exeter, thank you.

While I was waiting, I could hear the owners speaking badly of me. Doesn’t help that it is incredibly small so you can hear everything as you wait for your coffee a few meters from them. Some questionable discriminatory words were used. I had just been to a Pride work event (not LGBT myself) and the rainbows were seemingly met with disdainful, humoured glances. Typically I have always been served by a blonde young girl, but whenever I have been served by an older brunette lady I have had some issues such as this, or blatant coughing without covering mouths, seemingly not washing out milk jugs, etc. Now for the coffee itself, the milk choices are good but kept at room temp. The coffee is quite bitter and watery, unsure of the measure they use for the ground beans. Mouthfeel is slightly too watery, a little bitter and lacklustre at the same time as the coffee seems to be heated at too high a temperature (that, or they aren’t cleaning the machine properly between uses so the remainder of the old beans just continuously burn). There is no bathroom and the seating area is small and uncomfortable, which makes you feel like you need to get out quickly. Same goes for the lack of plug sockets. I think they designed it intentionally this way to avoid people coming for prolonged periods of time. Definitely a no go if you are disabled as you cannot get in or around, or have a weak pelvic floor as they will send you across the road to the Guildhall to use the public restroom! One plus is that they have a great photo of Ravi Shankar and stock good local beans (so does pretty much every Indy coffee shop in Exeter), but besides that it is a must avoid. Safe to say I will not be back.

I visited the shop to look for local coffee taste, but the experience was quite bad. A staff was unfriendly, the person looked away immediately after I ordered and I felt awkward while waiting for the coffee. Ice coffee was diluted and not bold. I recommend other chain coffee shops at Exeter high street with friendly staff.

Whenever we visit Exeter we like to drop into Devon Coffee for a quick drink. It's only small - I doubt if it seats much more than a dozen, but we always manage to find a seat. On our last visit we thought that we might have to go somewhere else as it appeared pretty full - it's a shame that the owners don't do a bit more to discourage the typical 'coffee shop computer user with a cold coffee' type of patron who was sitting snugly in the corner, using the cafe as if it was a student common room. He was sitting there when we arrived (I could see that his cup was empty), he was still sitting there when we left. It might not matter to the big chains, but in a small cafe like this it might mean lost custom if such characters are not discouraged.

Little gem of a coffee shop, discovered it whilst flagging at shopping. Great coffee and snacks to please persuasion. Very pleasant staff too, best not forget them!

As someone new to the area I thought I’d try an independent coffee house. When I asked to use the toilet I was told they didn’t have one. So they recommended to use the ones in the guildhall!! As I don’t know where it was that was not very helpful also the coffee which I ended up having as a takeaway was cold. Didn’t want to go back as the 2 members of staff were quite rude and patronising!!!

LOVE Devon coffee. The perfect toasted sandwich, a relaxed vibe and the best hot chocolate in town. Such a treat.

I have been going to Devon Coffee for a long time. I am very particular (rather fussy) about my coffee. I always had a lovely coffee there. They don't just make coffee but they make it professionally. Also the staff is very welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend this place. Ash

I don't usually write reviews, but this place deserves a review! I've been coming here for the last 2-3 years and not once has a coffee been bad! Their coffee tastes superior to its rivals. The beauty of this cafe, it's local and has withstood the Pandemic as it's an amazing place and people keep coming back! I've never ever had bad service in here, I just walk in and my drink is already made (they know my order.) They certainly don't forget the regulars that come in and make new people welcome. They make their coffee properly hence why it tastes the best!

Which brought us here for breakfast. A lovely little café with two delightful ladies running the counter. Excellent coffee as you would expect, a delicious soup of the day and a melted cheese, spring onion and chilli jam toastie from the short menu. Just a double espresso for coffee today as there's no bathroom. We shall return. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Don't bother with this place. I used to think they were great until they decided to out themselves as anti-mask. Very disappointed and felt betrayed by their ill-informed views.

Came here for years, was my go to shop. Unfortunately the owners are Covid hoaxers, putting the attached poster up in their window. Having worked in the NHS through the pandemic I find this insensitive to the extreme, and I'll never come here again unless they make a public denouncement of these views. Covid and the pandemic are real, get over this nonsense.

What a great find... this place had been highly recommended to me so thought I would visit. My coffee was excellent and the cakes and pastries looked amazing. There is very attractive decor and a lovely warm cozy feel to the place. I will be back and will stay longer next time. Thank you!! I highly recommend

I always pop into this coffee shop when I'm in town, independent ethical traders like this need all our support. The shop may be small but their coffee (and tea) is the best in Exeter, they make it the way I like it (I am fussy). Snacks and lite bites are good too.

Wow what a lovely little setting, a hidden gem. Coffee is amazing with a variety of milk options. I had an oat milk latte and the cheese and onion toastie. It was so delicious and the lady who owns it is so welcoming. I wish I could give it 10 stars.

A warm, welcoming haven. The service was excellent and the coffee delicious. The cafe is Covid secure for those still overly concerned about such things. I will be a regular customer from now on and will be recommending to all.

As a coffee fan, I will strongly recommend this place. Is a small hidden gem in Exeter and will not fail to surprise you.

This has been our regular coffee shop for a few years now and never had any complaints until today. We popped in to have have a quick coffee. No sign on the outside so popped my head inside to ask if seating was available. Before I could ask anything I was rudely asked to wait outside. Now I'm a man of many talents but unfortunately mind reading isn't one of them. Taken back, I asked is there seating and again was snapped at with yes there is but wait outside... no please. Just a totally hostile attitude! Now I'm all for can you wait outside please.... not a problem, but the attitude today was most likely the rudest I have ever come across in a customer service environment... goodbye

Lovely coffee, & sat outside in the autumn sun. Only downside, service a tad slow with only 1 serving as it got busy.

Amazing! The croissant was incredibly fresh, and paired with butter and apricot jam was perfection. Coffee and tea were superb. But above all... the gentlemen serving everyone was an absolute delight and deserves a pay rise! 🙃 Lovely wee coffee shop in Exeter, and recommend to all!
