Upper Deck in East Devon

Absolutely stunning location with great views of Sidmouth. The restaurant has a contemporary feel. We found it overpriced and uninspiring menu. We did not stay at the hotel but had been told the restaurant was good. We were very disappointed with the food. Scallop starter - these were small, surf n turf prawns were tiny and the overall cost was definitely overpriced. There were young staff who did a good job with ordering and bringing out the food.

If it wasn't for this place, the entire weekend n Sidmouth would've been a tragedy. Luckily, I don't like to book dining ahead when staying away until I can SEE what's available,as we stayed next door at the Victoria (go check my review there) and the food was BLEH. I'd made this reservation and I'm SO GLAD I did. Although the mussels weren't available, the meal was amazing. Even had my husband (sworn seafood hater) indulging in scallops! From start to finish (with the Dark Chocolate tart)...no complaints here. Book it and enjoy.

Edit: beautiful views remain of course but food, drink and service are so bad. Beautiful views and lovely set up in the restaurant, attentive staff though had a few hiccups but a rather uninspiring menu and the quality was also not as great as I would have expected for the price. Even the bread selection was disappointing.. just some sliced bread rather than nice artisan type bread rolls etc. that you would expect in a nice restaurant. I'd go back for views but likely only for a drink..

Like all big restaurants in a holiday town out of season, bit too quiet. It attracts a lot of retired so as expected really. But the staff are hardworking and the food good value.

First thing we noticed as we sat down was how filthy the seating was. You weren’t exactly spoilt for choice on the menu. As for the fish and chips, the cod still had its skin on, and it tasted terribly sea-like/brine. Chips were basically greasy starch fingers. For dessert a hiccup on one of the desserts had us wait even longer than anticipated until it was chased up, which simultaneously compromised the state of the other desserts we ordered whilst they must’ve been left out on the side. Patience was thin so we just accepted the situation. Not recommended overall.

Nice sea views, on a hill can see along sea front.Nice little town,with good coffee & cake shops plenty of benches.👍

Excellent food and service was really good as well. Seems odd some of the other reviews are so bad - it was not too busy when we were there so maybe it was that. However can definitely confirm it was great for us and the food is really good

Enjoyed the lunch with friends who all like the atmosphere and the food. The service was poor. Four members of service, not very attentive, just stood near the bar area. I used to like the visiting but not too sure now. It has the views which my parents like but there are better more attentive place in town.

Popped in for lunch and was extremely pleased. The food was good value, with a good choice and the staff were delightful. Will definitely look to stay here soon.

Enjoyable high quality afternoon tea, top class. Much better than many others, but..... Showing us (3) to a table for two wasn't the best of starts, especially as I had booked well ahead. I wish that the tea wasn't getting cold before the cake stand arrived. And an advertising photo shoot project, in the restaurant, disturbing my guests with "in your face" flash wasn't the best way to impress me, or other guests at that time. With just a little thought from management I would now be reporting "Perfect.". .

Great views, excellent service and atmosphere, and excellent value during Happy hour.

The food was good and well presented, and it all tasted really good. Service was ok, but communication between the staff did not seem to happen, and we had to keep asking for things. Beautiful setting and a good place to meet up with friends.

Utterly disappointed, while it’s a nice venue and the staff were good, the whole point of a restaurant, as in the food, was simply not worth it. £24 for a meal that was the size of a starter? To add to that, there was a real lack of flavour except for the sauce that there was only a smear of. Food took around an hour to arrive, and wasn’t even hot. The only reason I’ve given two stars was because the chips were good and our waiter was honest with us.

Food was really good as always, but regrettably the service was very poor. Total lack of management. 35 minutes to get two glasses of wine and the horseradish sauce simply never arrived. Mis-en-place was non existent. Great shame as always been a favourite place.

Booked for our wedding anniversary. Lovely place, staff very welcoming and service really good. I hate to say it, but the food was poor value for money. Every dish that I ordered was nice, but could have cooked it myself. I'd expected something more exciting from this restaraunt. Oh, and please get the glass buoys cleaned. Innovative use of them but they look so much better when not caked in dust.😊

A visit to the bar only in this area. Service very slow with staff who knew very little about serving drinks.

Booked an afternoon tea. Very disappointing. Fillings in sandwiches were meagre. The watercress sandwich had one leaf. My husband doesn't like eggs so they removed the egg sandwiches and didn't provide an alternative. Very poor for such a nice hotel.

The mains were nice, the desserts were disappointing. I'd have expected bread roll before starters to be included but this was additional which seems a bit tight. Our first 2 choices of wine from the wine list weren't available. 3 stars seems generous but 2 stars too harsh.

Met some friends for a drink, very pleasant.

Restaurant boasts some fantastic views of the coastline. Good quality food served by a team of competent staff. Island bar with good selection of drinks available. Lounge area at one end of the large room to relax with a coffe after your meal. Lovely outside seating area for those sunny days. Average prices for this quality of food and service. I would award 5 stars if the furniture wasn't looking a bit tired. Would come again.

We stayed for 4 days and I was a bit disappointed with some of the food at dinner service. I have been to other Harbour Hotels in other locations but in the same cbain of hotels. In my opinion tbe food was better in tbe other Harbour Hotels I have visited. This comment is just about the restaurant. The staff in the restaurant were very professional and attentive. The restaurant was clean and well presented. There is a lovely terrace to sit outside and look at the sea views

Very disappointed with the breakfast service. Extremely slow and obviously not enough chefs. Waited for an hour for my cooked breakfast. Had lunch also which was mediocre and tasteless.

Great views but expensive considering the poor quality bar service experienced. I'm was unimpressed.

One of the best views in Britain. Sloppy slap-dash service & variable menu...stone bream carpaccio wins the flavour awards; octopus forgot its lime...
