We had a 60th Birthday Party at the Unthank (upstairs) last night. From my initial contact with the venue the staff were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and everything went perfectly to plan, with every detail being considered. The staff on the bar on the night were excellent and all our dealings, particularly with Ben and Kate were just first class. The bowl food too was delicious - thank you. Would thoroughly recommend the Pub for anyone having a party or a special occasion! Thank you all.

Went for a roast. It was nice overall but not the best. Roasties weren’t crispy (also hidden under the meat and gravy which didn’t help ‘crisp’ retention). Opted for the all the meats option as couldn’t choose, this is quite expensive at £25 and you get way too much meat, would be better to reduce the cost and reduce portion size. Did get a pocket of raw flour in my Yorkshire which I told the waitress about but they didn’t seem too bothered. Otherwise no complaints. Addition of red and savoy cabbage was nice.

Lovely pub, staff were all friendly. We were there for the Evening of a Wedding, the BBQ was so nice, being able to sit outside in the garden still, was great.

Food quite expensive for what it is. But staff were all friendly & efficient - great service and a nice pub.

Staff were very friendly and the drinks and olives were nice and the meat was ok. However the nutroast was Bland, the roast potatoes were hard and the Yorkshire puddings were tough and very hard to eat.

This is such a charming pub, very cosy and welcoming. As soon as we arrived, they brought a bowl of water for the dog so even he felt welcome. All our meals were great and my sole was perfectly cooked. Even though we had eaten lots, the puddings were too tempting not to try. The service was good and we weren't rushed at any point.

Brilliant food and service as always. Best pub in this area for both food and drink.I would recommend it to anybody. Pasta nights on a Tuesday good value for money.

We visited for the first time for a Sunday roast, opting for the nut roast. It sounded great on the menu but unfortunately didn't hit the spot for both of us. The veg was also a bit mixed. Service was sharp and the table booking system worked perfectly. Many thanks team.

Really great proper pub. Called to see an old friend who lives locally and chose this pub as meet point. Glad I did. Ample parking with a large outside covered and uncovered seating area. Menu looks good but didn't eat there. Staff very friendly. Drinks reasonably priced. Good choice of drinks too. Worth a trip.

This is a fine local urban pub with a big nice garden, some parking and very friendly helpful staff. Only criticism is that they do not offer a choice of real bitters on tap

Off the beaten track in a residential area, supported largely by locals. Excellent menu pub favourites including light snacks and a good range of ales and lagers.

Hugely disappointing roast! We both went for the 'all meats' option, lots of food on the plate but none of it great. Stingy portions of meat and everything on the cool side. One slither of beef - overcooked and mostly fat Measly slice of pork - dry Chicken - dry Roast potatoes - pale with an off-putting chemical smell and taste. Red cabbage - overly sweet and also had a strange taste. Crackling - tiny piece, super salty and chewy Roast parsnip - missing from the plate. I overheard the server telling another table that they didn't have any, we weren't informed of this when ordering. Yorkshire pudding - greasy We did receive an apology and one of the meals was deducted from the bill, however we definitely won't be returning. Not worth £25.50 per meal, I'm upset at having paid half of that!

Great neighbourhood pub with a large garden.

Food so-so, haven't been for a while probably won't go again. I had a veggie burger and fries, burger was ok. Fries were very small, mostly just pieces. At £15 seems expensive, my wife had the nut roast which had fallen apart and resembled porridge! Place could also do with a bit of a re-paint..

Used to come here often with groups of friends. Went today, £6.20 for a pint of Amstel.!!!! Same beer a few hundred yards away -£4.50. Great place if you have more money than sense, or want to support an unjustified continuation of the inflationary spiral. But for the sensible /those with brains -AVOID , or don’t moan when costs keep rising. Other places can keep their prices down , and so they will be getting our business from now on . Shame

Unbelievable food quality for a pub. Exceptional hospitality by a lady running it completely on her own during a day. Delicious local cask ales.

Good food in a cosy Victorian pub. Pasta nights on Monday and Tuesday where you get choice of bowl of pasta and a glass of wine for £10. Popular place, so advisable to book in advance on the website.

Roast dinner disappointing! Roast potatoes weren’t roasted. Boiled and pale. Not crispy. Veg was mushy couldn’t tell what the veg was. Yorkshire pudding greasy. No crackling with pork. No excuse. Only when asked they said they had run out. This was 2pm. They serve roast dinners 12-7pm. No good. We spent a lot of money on family birthday so meal was depressing. Will not be returning 😞

Waiting at the bar , let an older gent get served before me as bar tad busy. From then on staff ignored me like I wasnt there. Bar lady asked if anyone waiting, I was right in front of her and served someone else. Walked out. Not again here sadly

I have had drinks in here years ago, but this is the 1st time back , and for Sunday roast into the bargain. I will give each area its own score out of 10. Welcome on arrival 10. Glass of smooth Merlot 9. The roast itself: Sirloin beef, very tasty, pretty lean and reasonably tender. 8.5 The Yorshire pud 8. The vegetables 7 The gravy 9 Temperature of meal 6.5 Value for money 9 Total of meal 65 out of 90

Classic Norwich pub, really great ale and good food. Food is a little bit on the pricier side but is definitely up there with some of the best pub kitchens in Norwich. Their staff are lovely too!

Always a solid choice - but they've definitely upped their game food-wise over the past two years. Fantastic food - great roasts. Lots of space in winter or summer. Lovely beer garden. Great selection of drinks - wide for all tastes. Relaxed atmosphere, great staff, just a great pub!

Lunch with friends. Service and staff attitude excellent. Food well cooked and presented, but a restricted menu, which normally leads to lower prices. Here I found the prices as high as other venues with much more extensive menus. That said, it was a pleasant experience, and I would return.

Always great food, staff are very good. The only 'problem' was that we thought the chairs were not too comfortable, but that's just our opinion. But that aside, everything was fabulous.

Just home from amazing meal here. Scallops were amazing and cooked to perfection, then had half bbq chicken omg if that was half that was one big chicken. This was also cooked perfectly and needless to say no room for desserts. Staff were very friendly and service brilliant. Will defo be going back soon

Treated some people to Xmas lunch and the team pulled off lunch for 8 in a good fashion. The pub was decorated all festive, the team kept us loaded with drinks and the food all came out together and tasted amazing. Really happy with everything and it was amazing!

Great food, good service, traditional pub.

Lovely pub, the management team are fantastic. The food however has a lot to be desired. Went for a roast on 29/10. Quickly seated with the table request completed. We ordered at the bar and then sat back down for a 45 minute wait for 2 roast dinners. Whilst I couldn't see how busy upstairs was, I could see downstairs was full so expected a bit of a wait and wouldn't have minded at all if the food was good. Roast potatoes looked very anemic, almost not roasted at all, still quite raw in the middle. Carrot-okay some people like it Al dente, it probably needed another 10 minutes cooking before it could be considered that though. The roast parsnip was so hard and raw my fork wouldn't go into it. The savoy cabbage was very rubbery and the braised red cabbage had no flavour. Yorkshire pudding burnt and rock hard. Everything was lacking seasoning, to the point where I was beginning to wonder whether the kitchen even had salt and pepper My friend had the nut roast which had a very pleasant flavour but the texture was not great. The chicken was very nice and quite juicy its just such a shame the rest of the meal was horrendous. The manager offered apologies and comped the meal in the end but I can't help but feel this would have been avoided if anyone had done a check back prior to my walking up to the bar and asking for the bill. A lot of retraining needed for bar and kitchen.

What’s happened? I’ve been here multiple times before and everything was great. Could’ve been an off day this Sunday, but what a dive. The service was shocking apart from one gentleman who was very attentive. The roasts were terrible - cold Yorkshire puddings that were practically burnt, one carrot and parsnip (?!), soft roast potatoes that were cold in the middle. The beef had a lot of fat. No chicken or pork roast available didn’t help. I could’ve sworn when I went here for a roast before you got more with it (stuffing, more veg etc). I’ll come back here in hope this was a one off. Good choice of beers is a positive!

Most expensive roast I have had in Norwich and was not impressed. Raw parsnips and carrots, doughy Yorkshire's, hard potatoes, thin precooked slices of pork, cold gravy and no crackling for nearly £16. Husband had the three meats for £24. Would not come back for a roast. Service was good.

Been here a few times for work events! Great service, food comes really quick and the £10 pasta dinner comes with a free drink. What more can we ask!

We had our daughters wedding in the Unthank Arms and I cannot praise, Adam, Kate, Ben and the rest of the team enough. With one family based in Bromley and the other in Cambridge you need a reliable team you can depend on. The Unthank team, right through this process have just got on with it, they must have been fed up with our emails but nothing was too much trouble for them. On the actual day, the pub looked fantastic, the food was superb and the staff, quietly and efficiently, served us through the afternoon/evening with a genuine smile. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Thank you all at the Unthank Arms

Great food , great service all round great place

Enjoyed a delicious meatball pasta dish, a side salad and a glass of wine, reasonably priced and promptly served. Staff kind and attentive.

Thought food was OK. Not amazing. Fish was somewhat dry. Pork belly bites in bacon, bacon needed to be better cooked. Sausages and gravy was fine. Nice garden. Small good selection of bitters. More civilized than some of the local alternatives. Clearly a local favorite.

We couldn't have asked for more! From start to finish Kate and her wonderful team organised our wedding after party with care, kindness and professionalism. We must have had almost 200 guests turn up and the staff managed every aspect without a hitch. The food was delicious and my dustbin bag full of balloons and decorations was skillfully and artfully transformed into a fabulous backdrop for our celebration. It was certainly the perfect choice and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the pub and the team for any celebration you are planning. All at a great price!! Thank you so much team Unthank!

We held our wedding reception at the Unthank Arms in August ‘23 and it was great. Such a great space to accommodate adults and children. We had intended to use the outside space but it chucked it down all day, but the staff were brilliant - making sure that indoors was arranged to accommodate all the children and guests and the enclosed outdoor space could be screened off for even more space. The food was great and the staff were so helpful. One of the bar staff even drove my friend and her young daughter home at the end of the night because the taxis in Norwich are unreliable (Uber, you are needed here!). Couldn’t recommend it enough, and a great partner venue to the Flint Room which is an amazing wedding venue.

Food was nice but heating needed to be turned up a couple of degrees. Update: Have now started to go for lunch around once a month. Food still good and they put me near the fire if I ask - even in July 🤣

One of the best Sunday lunches I've had. 9/10. If plate hotter I'd have scored 10. Like a few pubs in Norwich, it is based on traditional corner plot in residential area but enhanced by having parking. I will be going again. Near "The York" too which is similar in style (not same owners) but has nice atmosphere and better Gin selection. Great staff make these a cert.

Sunday lunch was really nice, best one I have had in Norwich and I have tried a few. Warm plates makes a big difference. Brownies for dessert were outstanding. Service and atmosphere was great, will deffo return.

Nice buzzy pub. In the centre of large residential area,which was traditionally "student bedsit land" This pub has a good selection of drinks and good food. Lots of seating areas and a large garden.

Food was good, we were all veggie/vegan and had several choices, over ordered because we thought the portions would be smaller, food was good, lost a star because we couldn't be seated in the garden because a wedding was taking place so was on the outside tables which would have been great if not eating but was subject to smokers, waiting staff brilliant

We held our wedding reception upstairs in the Unthank Arms and we had such an amazing time. Ben and his team were so friendly and went out of their way to help us. They were quick to respond to emails when we were planning and made the whole process feel very easy. We felt like we were in very capable hands and it really showed on the day. Our guests loved the food which came out on time without a hitch, the bar staff were lovely and everything just ran so smoothly from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble and they were really relaxed about us putting up decorations. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Unthank Arms for any event, they were brilliant. Thank you!

I booked my table this morning quite simply..... I arrived slightly before noon, but was welcomed, non-the-less. My drink and food orders were taken promptly. Both arrived in a timely fashion. The Roast Pork, dish which I'd chosen, was a very well plated, portion, very well suited to my appetite.....The crackling ( the like of which I've not had for some little while) was great, just right..... I enjoyed all of the plate of food, leaving a 'clean plate'. No greater compliment to the chef, than that! The waiting and bar- staff, were kind, helpful, attentive and unobtrusive. I'm now sitting in The Warwick, having had a delicious coffee, watching West Ham v Leeds ( my local). Thank-you to all concerned with my good experience😀

Went for Sunday roast with my family. The food was disappointing to say the least. I chose the “all the meats” option ( beef, pork, chicken) , while there certainly was a lot of food the quality was poor. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt on the top and still raw in the middle. The plate was swimming in gravy which tasted like bisto, no depth of flavour. There was too much on the plate and no discernible flavours, everything tasted the same. Only saving grace was our server who was very attentive and worked with a smile whilst under pressure, it was packed with drinkers and diners.

Food at weekends is now provided by a local Italian restaurant, Al Dente. See pic for menu. Expensive for pasta in a pub setting, but I must admit it was very good. Thought charging £1.50 to have cheese on top was very cheeky, but thankfully they forgot to put it on the bill. Recent revamp of the pub is tastefully done, but part of me yearns for it to return to it's former role as a community pub with good, cheap, interesting food that attracted local pensioners as well as others

Went to the Unthank Arms for a wedding celebration meal. Really lovely food - tasty, great quality and good-sized portions. The crackling on the roast pork belly was fantastic! Would highly recommend.

Brilliant sixtieth birthday party venue. Around 60 guests in the upstairs room which we decorated. Our own bar Exceptionally good quality food. Danced the night away! Delightful, helpful staff. Cannot fault the Unthank Arms One of the best venues in Norwich

Popped in for dinner on a Tuesday night, found a pasta special was on. Omg it was amazing, great value and amazing food, and the wine was pretty good.

My partner and I shared the "All the meats" Sunday roast and it was really good! The portion was big enough for two people and we got to try all the different types of meat. We think other people should try it too! The food was tasty and the service was great. We would come back again for sure!

Great place for food and drink. Some really nice off-the wall dishes that are all prepared very well and arrive in good time and hot. Only 4 stars due to noise. Just too noisy and so much echo, could do with some wall art to bring that down but overall a lovely gastro pub.

A very good meal and didn't keep us hanging around when we turned up 30 mins early, Nice Quiet time of the day but did busy up a little. Able to mix & match out unliked options like Mayo & Cole Slaw and got it right. Nothing left on the plates or in the glasses at full time. No pressure. Some Vegan/Gluten Free options and would advise on foods that contained allergens.

Discovered the Unthank Arms whilst going for a stroll from our hotel in Norwich. A wonderful place ,very welcoming atmosphere with great bar staff, good beer and terrific food. Wish we lived nearer !

The Unthank Arms is located at 149 Newmarket St, Norwich. The outlook of this restaurant is quite attractive. The seating area is comfortable and feeling warm with real fireplace on Ground Floor. Variety of food is limited, mainly burger is offered. Pumpkin soup is too salty, lacking smell of pumpkin. In fact, it is a bar, most of the customers drink beer.

Slightly strange atmosphere but very nice food with generous portions.

Very nice pub and helpful staff. Food is lovely. Upstairs room for private parties is a great space, and they were happy to let us decorate it for the 21st party.
