I came in for the Sunday roast, I ordered the beef, I was disappointed that there was only one slice of beef for the price, there was more veg than beef, should of called it a vegetarian roast, I was disappointed with the taste just the lack of sliced beef

Update: Two years after the review below we returned to The Marsh Harrier and I’m sorry to say that things have deteriorated. We sat down to our table booking at six thirty and we were ignored by all the staff for over 30 minutes. Eventually we managed to get one of them to take our order but then it was another long delay before the drinks arrived. We had been sat well over an hour before the starters arrived at our table and the whole two course meal took 2.5 hours. We would have walked out in disgust had it not been the occasion of my father-in-law’s birthday. The food was still good but the service was atrocious and not a word of apology from anyone. So much for feeling valued. Please sort your staffing out as it’s killing your business, and find somewhere else to stack chairs as they made the place look a mess. Original review Had a meal here on Friday night with family whilst we were visiting Norwich and catching ip with relatives. The food was really good quality and the serving staff were amazing. We had a relative who had specific dietary requirements with us, and the staff were very accommodating in making sure that their food was suitable. I'm sorry I didn't catch our waitress' name, but I believe she spoke with a foreign accent - possibly Spanish. Kudos to her for making us feel valued and welcome.

Went for lunch with my family on Monday 22nd April. Fantastic service and food as ever. Always enjoy going here. Beth and Leah couldn’t do enough for us!

Service was fantastic, starters were great, mains and desserts were great. Staff were polite, friendly and extremely helpful, nothing was too much. Thanks to all the kitchen staff for great food.

Terrible service, we booked our table for 4 for 6.30pm tonight (Saturday) finally got our drinks at 7pm. Then another hour wait for starters which was average, then the mediocre mains came out (while we still had our dirty starters plates on the table) no offer of any condiments so went searching myself as couldn't wait another hour for it. Then we chased our second round of drinks to be told they'd run out of clean glasses. Deserts we rubbish. Then we asked for the bill, one extra drink was on it which we hadn't had but due to not wanting to keep waiting any longer we didn't say anything, anyway no one came back for payment so we decided to stand up and wait near the cutlery table. We handed our cash to the waitress who said "I'll go get your change" after 5 minutes I said to my husband "oh let's just go she's obviously forgotten", when i looked over at the tills she took our change out of the till and chucked it straight in the tips jar!!! I am utterly gobsmacked and wasn't going to write a bad review but that was the icing on the cake. Awful service, and overpriced mediocre food.

Looked after this evening by Leah. We used to meet here often a few years back but for one reason or another didn’t return. Pleased we made the booking as meal was very enjoyable and reasonably priced. Leah was attentive but not at all intrusive. Restaurant was full and for a midweek this is surely a good sign of good place to be. Would return. Thankyou.

Good pub food, a bit pretentious, priced appropriately.

Jake was very friendly and polite , food was good and well presented at a reasonable price in a very nice atmosphere.will be coming back.

Don't think we ever went here....but my daughter has and said that the steak was small and wine glass dirty

Nice seating area, the bar area being dog friendly. A member of staff brought my dog a fresh bowl of water. I thought the menu was particularly varied, with something for everyone. All of the food I saw coming out of the kitchen looked pretty great. Sadly on this visit my food was not great. I had a chicken breast added to a salad which was dreadful, tough as shoe leather ! Such a shame, the food is usually good honest food, served hot and usually tasty. I think it’s fair to say the food is inconsistent, I was unlucky on this occasion. Very friendly bar staff. The place was clean and tidy. We might go back.

Food quality has gone up a notch from last time I visited (a couple of years ago). Perfect medium rare steak, and lovely sea bass. Yummy desserts. Beer well kept. Great staff and efficient service.

A lovely freehouse pub with excellent food. Service was a tad slow but I put that down the them being really busy of an Easter Sunday. Definitely recommend the Sticky Chicken starter and the Curry as a 'main'. Pudding was an exceptionally good Apple and Blackberry Crumble. 😋

Lovely friendly staff, very inviting

Curry dish - presentation was poor, rice was very stodgy and compact and one of the pieces of chicken breast was very dry and tough. Fish and chips - fish served upside down, was not fresh (fish meat was compact and not flaky) and was dry. Opted out of dessert due to poor quality main meal. Very disappointing. Just glad I had a £20 off voucher from the app which significantly reduced the bill. App now deleted and no plans to return.

The welcome assistant was surly and unfriendly. The waitress was excellent and the food was good

Food was lovely, starters could have Ben slightly warmer but mains were perfect. Staff on the evening were very professional and approachable. The lady who took our booking on Friday the other hand alas was not so approachable and frankly we nearly cancelled our booking on the saturday. I appreciate she was busy but we only needed to book and were clearly next at the bar and she chose to serve a bigger party before and made us feel a little uncomfortable. Apart from this we would potentially visit with friends again thanks to brilliant staff on shift Saturday night. Many thanks Keith Smith

Did not enjoy the visit sadly. The food was overcooked. My chicken burger was very dry as it was over cooked. Chips were terrible we sent them back and they were replaced. Drink service was slow.

Friendly and welcoming. Just had drinks but food looked good and was reasonably priced. Seemed very popular for food. We arrived there at 5.30 on a Saturday afternoon and most tables looked to be full by 6.30.

Visited for an evening with work colleagues on a Friday evening. The restaurant was busy but felt relaxed. Service from Beth was attentive, without being intrusive and at no point did we feel rushed. The food, particularly at this price point, was top quality and far superior to a meal I’d had the weekend before at a renowned, and expensive, local gastropub”. Well done to all at the Marsh Harrier, I’ll be coming back.

Just popped in for a drink, fabulous staff. Great wine, we chose to drink outside to enjoy the winter sunshine. The outside areas let the place down 😕

Nice to find a pub that still looks like a pub. The place has been beautifully restored with original beams and fireplaces. Food and beer were good, service friendly and efficient.

Was served by Zoe and had an amazing evening with my wife. The Lamb was perfect! Will be going again very soon!

A fake smile as we enter the building, sat down waiting long time for our drink and food orders to be taken. Food was OK- pretty standard for pub restaurant , after finished our food we just sat there waiting again !! Waiting for our plate to be cleared , I would like to have another drink and look at dessert menu . No CHANCE ! 4- 5 members of staff on duty, we were just completely been ignored ! What the hell- OMG ! I will never return and I will certainly tell all the people I know - avoid this 0 service restaurants.. No thanking the customers , no check back on food..

This is one of the few places in Norwich that serves food between 12.00-22 .00. Nice inside plenty of space with tables. Staff are very polite .A good selection on the menu I was pleasantly surprised with the food I will definitely return.

As usual the food was excellent. However unusually on this occasion we had to wait too long for our meal. The starter came within 15 mins of ordering and the plate was cleared quickly. However it took an hour and 15 mins from arrival for our mains to come. Nearly everyone else had theirs before us. No one explained so I presume our mains were not prepared until our starter was cleared away. Even then this was unusually long

Prawn cocktail and king prawn and chorizo starters were delicious, ribeye steaks were very chewy, chips tasted dry like oven chips not triple cooked. Roast meat was nice especially the belly pork, roast potatoes were rock hard and dried out inside also parsnip was not edible as hard and had gone brown inside. Dessert were lovely

After some negative experiences eating at the Marsh Harrier I gave them a poor review a little while ago. I decided to give them another go this evening. Tonight the service and the food was top notch and we are really pleased that we gave it another go. Many thanks for a lovely evening

My parents came over to visit from the states and we took them here. Everyone happily ate and thoroughly enjoyed their food, with a variety of food preferences, that were met!

Excellent food and great service throughout. The staff were always courteous amd had a great understanding of the menu.

A really great friendly pub with a fantastic menu and very approachable staff. We both had the sirloin steak which was cooked perfectly. Would definitely come back again

There was a really cosy atmosphere, and the service was very prompt and friendly. The food was outstanding, especially the dessert. The cost was very reasonable and we'll definitely be going again.

For those of us who have busy lives if you need somewhere to unwind after a hectic day at work this is it. Relaxing atmosphere, pleasant surroundings and good quality food. It can get quite busy at times but in my experience the staff here always will always do their best for you. On this visit we were served by Leah who is always extremely welcoming and provided us with a friendly and very efficient service. The food was of a high standard as usual. Keep up the good work!

I went to the restaurant on Tuesday 27th February,had a very nice meal ,cooked well ,with good ingredients,our server was JAKE ,we found him very helpful and friendly,I have been there a few times now and always enjoyed it .

Thank you for a wonderful meal, prompt service, eventhough the restaurant was busy. We were there for a special birthday meal. Food was delicious, thank you chef, and our waitress Leah went above and beyond with her excellent service. Thank you so much Leah. Can't wait to return.

Ordered delivery roast 3 pieces of tiny meat beef overcooked pork overcooked no crackling carrots hard cauliflower cheese and mushy and very thin gravy. Not worth £20 very disappointed

Amazing roasts today - couldn't fault it one bit. We had 2 x meat trios and 1 x pork belly roast - all divine!

Not much sauce on prawn cocktail but was resolved very quickly with a separate pot. Fish was very good but was slightly over seasoned with salt. Just had to scrape it off then was fine. Chips and Mushy peas were perfect. Baked mushrooms were fab but be warned, they are hot so let it cool first. So easy to just dive in and catch you out, so move onto main plate and test carefully b4 devouring.

Listen, nothing needs to improve, everything was great from start to finish

Love the new decorations. Love the fire place where we got seated. Food was a good portion. Enjoy it. What ruin it for me was the cup of tea I ordered. Tasted funny. Either the water wasn't boiled properly and the milk was off. Other than that I enjoyed the food.

Fantastic Sunday lunch was amazing staff couldn’t be more helpful.

Our first visit to this vintage restaurant and we will not return as this is the second time at a vintage restaurant where the food was abysmal, my cheese schnitzel was burnt on the underside and hard to cut through, bowl of chips were lovely on the outside but as you went down the bowl hard and dried out chips. We didn't say anything to the server and they never asked us if everything was okay.

I wouldn't recommend this pub.We were shown to our table without a welcome by a sullen waitress then totally ignored, after a while we asked for our drinks order to be taken, she said she was busy clearing tables and would be with is in "2 seconds" and then we waited more time for her to take the order, we could then see our drinks order sitting at the bar with no-one bringing them over. After sitting waiting for 20 minutes with our menus in front of us we left, the service was terrible. It spoiled what was going to be a birthday meal. We went up the road to The Oak, to a warm welcome, lovely staff and a great meal. I think this pub should decide if it wants to be a traditional pub that does food or a restaurant with table service. If it is the latter the staff need training in how to welcome customers.

Everything was as expected, even catered very well for an excited 4 year old! All staff that we came into contact with were very polite and professional. Food was absolutely superb.

Service was very welcoming and friendly and although staff were very busy nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent, although vegetables were quite hard (the way I like them!) but others with me were not keen. Apart from this everything was excellent.

We had prawn cocktail starter described as Bloody Mary rose Marie! Just mayonnaise no flavour very bland, main courses were ok but not blown away very limp side salad with no dressing, pudding my partner had Eaton mess was huge with very little meringue, I had the mini pudding and drink, you couldn’t get the spoon in the mini pudding so had to use the handle ! Unimpressed they were too busy clearly couldn’t cope, the table behind had been moved and there were remnants of the dinner all on the floor. Wouldn’t go again.

I am newly dairy free due to my baby having an allergy, so I am wary when going out for food, I asked the member of staff about dairy free food and she helped me with options. When I asked about the fish and chip, she checked with the kitchen about the dish and when I asked her a question she double checked with the kitchen and made a note on the order that went through to the kitchen which was very reassuring and I didn’t mind waiting whilst she got the relevant answers. The fish and chips were delicious and I cannot fault them at all! So fresh, and the fish was perfectly cooked.

My whole experience for my Sunday lunch here was wonderful. Food excellent Staff and service excellent Such a friendly happy atmosphere I will definitely be back.

We had a set menu where you had to pre order once we got there and started our meal that's when we started to find out that they did not have all the food which we had pre order

Unfortunately not the best experience, on booking I had to chase if they wanted a pre- order or cash before hand. No communication from the actual pub throughout even though we had someone with dietary needs. . On arrival the staff were unhappy and not very friendly. We went for the festive meals and other than the turkey meal there was no festive feel or decoration on the table or from the staff. On both sides we made a mistake on an order but the man helping to serve was very argumentative over it. We had one meal which wasn't cooked properly and no we didn't complain as by this point we were just trying to enjoy our evening together. On paying we were over charged but luckily had a lady ( I think the manager) who sorted it out and was actually very friendly and helpful. A shame we had this experience as not one person from the group plans on visiting again anytime soon.

We pre-ordered our food as we were a party of 11 and it was the festive lunch. Firstly the soup that had been ordered by 2 guests had run out. Then with the childrens main meal the pizza had run out. These had been pre-ordered and the two children affected were upset! When asked why they had run out we were told they were very busy the day before and so had run out, surely that's the point of pre-ordering. I noticed several tables ordering from menus on the day, so obviously you should reserve the food that is pre-ordered, My husband has food allergies which you were informed of beforehand. Yet on the day he was told he couldn't have any gravy as the ingredients weren't on the packet! You had nearly 4 weeks to sort this from when I emailed you. The service was polite and friendly and the atmosphere was nice. I would not return in a large group.

My first visit to this pub and I was very happy. Food (from the festive menu) was cooked perfectly, especially the moist turkey and really tasty Yorkshire puddings and the generous portion sizes were really appreciated. Homemade soda drinks were amazing too. The service was a little slow at times but staff were friendly and accommodating. I will definitely revisit in the new year!

We loved the building, the atmosphere, the service and the food. Our only problem was, it was a busy night and there were no proper parking spaces free, so we had trouble squeezing the car in. It's not soewhere you can park on the road outside.

A big group of us went for drinks in the evening, was told last orders at 10:40pm so we went to bar to order and then to be told sorry can’t serve anymore as till was taken… absolutely terrible way to run a pub which shuts at 11pm not 10:40pm

Slow service which was ok for us as we were enjoying a nice long catch up with friends, however not good if you need to get in/out quickly. It did seem particularly busy for a weekday evening though so that may explain it. Had a voucher for money off so it was very reasonably priced and the food here is good. Would recommend.

Great food great friendly service

3 of us this time for lunch, we had the festive set menu, the Turkey roast was delicious, nice and tender and plenty of it, we also added extra gravy, The vegetarian option of seed roast I was told was delicious also, only criticism I was told on that would be substitute the salad with potatoes as salad does not really go well with gravy and veg! Staff were lovely and friendly, Coffee great, ambience perfect and very festive, Great job all of you, we will return again if you keep that Chef! Congrats and Merry Christmas to you all xx

Want too keen on the menu, everything came with either spring onion mash or triple fried chips. I also thought it was a bit overpriced.

Main meal was delicious, couldn't fault it. I had crumble for desert but didn't really have hardly any 'crumble' in it, was more like a bowl of hot fruit and custard. Nice atmosphere and was easy to park.

Lovely venue, lovely staff, fabulous food, the venue was very busy but we were served in a timely fashion.

Hubby and I had a lovely Christmas lunch here today, served by the friendly Zoe. Starters of king prawns and smoked salmon were a perfect size and very nice. The turkey main course was fab, plenty of moist turkey breast, six different vegetables (we added cauliflower cheese) as well as roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. We were both too full for a pudding but there were several I would have liked! All sat by a nice fire 🔥 Dropped one star just because the main course could have been hotter. Will definitely return.

When I arrived the waiter had forgotten that I changed the table to the dog friendly area and also forgotten that I had booked the festive menu so I had to remind them and ensure the deposit I had already paid was taken into account. The table was booked for 6 people, we had to organise the tables ourselves. There was no table service, when we finished our mains we had to go back to order dessert and ask for our table to be cleared. The desserts took 40+ minutes to come out and were luke warm when they did. The hot drinks we ordered to come out with the desserts were finished well before desserts arrived and they did not come with the butter flapjack as advertised on the menu. The pigs in blankets on the menu were actually stuffing balls in blankets. The food was still great but the service was extremely poor.

Our first visit to the Marsh Harrier and certainly won't be our last. A tremendously cosy pub with fantastic food and service. Ross and Alex were extremely attentative and very knowledgeable regarding the Menus. A lovely Sunday afternoon roast. Look forward to returning in the near future.

Warm welcome, good service, amazing Christmas dinner

Booked here for family meal, just 4 of us. Service was not great, it wasn't overly busy when we arrived, but did fill up while we were there. Food was very good, and hot, the wait between being given menus and being able to order any more drinks was quite lengthy as was the wait trying to ask for the bill. We went to the bar in the end and were told by the member of staff that the 'pub is busy, someone will be with you in a while'. Unfortunately they couldn't say 'how long a while' when asked. We arrived in good time for our 6.30 booking, and we were still trying to leave at 8.15. This is to give an idea of time we were sat just waiting for things to happen. Eventually the male member of staff who had originally taken our food order arrived with a bill after the staff member behind the bar seemed to have had a word about us having asked for the bill, been told in a while and didn't like to have been put in the 'not knowing' situation. We would try here again another time, just to see if it was a one off! By the time we left the bar area was empty, so obviously it's more of a 'food place' than just for drinks.
