Union Street Cafe in Southwark

My friends and I went about a week and a bit ago and we had the £22 Starter, Main & Dessert deal where you can only order off the seasonal menu. It was absolutely worth it! My friends and I really enjoyed our meals, especially the chocolate brownie which we all absolutely loved. Our waiter Chris was lovely and service was very quick, would definitely return again :)

I have no problem with the service or ambience of the restaurant, just the food, we paid £100 for wine, burgers and mac and cheese, does gordon Ramsey have a team check out the restaurants he puts his name to? Obviously not, the mac and cheese was tasteless and the burger was dry,as though it had been cooked, left then cooked again, very very, disappointed 😥

The menu & food are great- exactly as you'd expect. But the restaurant was empty (Sat eve) so lack of atmosphere & the service was bizarre & slow. Even tho 3 serving staff for 4 tables we just gave up on ordering dessert.

The location was good but the restaurant was over half empty for a Saturday night so lacked atmosphere . Food was OK but nothing special . Wine was vastly over priced even for London standards ! You are basically paying over the odds for average food because it’s a Gordon Ramsey restaurant. Staff were ok but portions are small and all sides are extra. The curry at £18 didn’t come with anything so you needed to add the rice and Nann making it £30, rubs were nice but £36 which again was excessive. Beef Wellington was the special but at £120 we didn’t bother! Gordon should reduce his prices and make it good value so the restaurant was full and had atmosphere ! Overall very average …which was quite disappointing

We were gifted a voucher for a Beef Wellington Experience at one of a few Gordon Ramsay restaurants in London, so elected to come to this one in Southwark. I'll say now that this was really a mixed bag of an experience and I'll try my best to articulate why. Location is good.. a short walk from the Southwark tube station, and near to other interesting things in the area like Borough Market. The restaurant itself is really nice, airy, well decorated, immaculately clean and the staff were very friendly so no complaints with that side of thing at all. However despite being a Saturday afternoon, the place was empty. We were the only customers for the first hour of our meal (we were seated at 1pm) and whilst it's kind of nice to have the place to yourself, it also just seemed really odd to be so quiet on a Saturday lunchtime. Eventually other customers did come in but even then, it was only a party of two and a party of six. It just meant there was no atmosphere at all and felt more like a library, eating in silence, than there being any kind of vibe. The food itself was good.. it was served as a sharing menu so the starter was a trio of different starters (tuna tartae, tamarind chicken wings, and burrata), the beef wellington itself for main course with creamed spinach and mash, and a trio of deserts (chocolate bombe, black forest cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding). The problem really was that whilst it was nice, it was very expensive.. the voucher cost was £180 for the three courses with a cocktail. By the time service was factored in, and a glass of wine each, we had an additional cost of £50. By any measure £230 is an expensive meal and whilst the food was nice, I've paid considerably less for considerably better. In fact I cooked a Sunday lunch the following day at home and truthfully we all enjoyed it more. We had the pleasure to eat at Heddon Street Kitchen about four years ago and really enjoyed that.. we didn't feel this was worth the money, and I'm not sure that we would return.

My wife ordered her burger medium well, and it arrived very well done.

We really enjoyed our meal here. 2 burgers and fish and chips were all delicious. The fish was HUGE! Also highly recommend the ice cream. Best we have had. Sticky toffee pudding was also fantastic

2 stars purely for the quality of the food and the surroundings. Other than that was extremely disappointed, in a near empty restaurants with 4 couples - us and 2 others grouped together. 1st waiter was very blunt and rude when showed to table. Given both the set menu and al la carte menu. Waiter number 2 advised it was ok to order from both as options were limited (get that with a set menu) Waiter 3 comes to take order and says no you can’t order from both menus and then listed the items not available on the set menu or limited of the 4 mains available (steak unavailable) that left a fish dish and 2 spicy dishes. Very bluntly told will just have to order something else. If you only have 4 mains on a set menu and 1 not available why not replace with a burger to replace the steak! Shame Gordon was not there as would have been good to see him ‘advise’ the waiters in his swearing style. Serious customer service required but until that happens I would avoid Finally did not see the need for a security guard on the door! Easy money for him when only a handful in the restaurant

The place was pretty empty yet service was slow. Half the Family enjoyed the meal. The two different steaks were very fatty and under cooked.

There were a total of four covers (two of which were us) and three members of serving staff. Despite this ratio of staff, the service was utterly woeful. The main wine took ages to arrive despite asking for it to be decanted while we enjoyed aperitifs, and once served I then spent the main course topping up our wines myself. I ordered cheese and a glass of Chardonnay for afters. Five minutes later the server returned to say that there was no Chardonnay. So I cancelled that and the cheese. My dining companion ordered sticky toffee pudding and a suitable dessert wine. When the sticky toffee pudding arrived there was still no dessert wine. It then transpired that that too had run out but no one thought to mention it. No matter how good the food is and its convenience, the lack of availability of products and the pathetic service means that this place will not see another penny of my money.

My visit to bread street kitchen and bar in terms of food surroundings and staff were excellent. Unfortunately though an incident there has pulled down my rating. To be clear I had only had the drink given at the beginning our beef wellington menu. There was a man on the door letting people in and out of the restaurant. The toilets were located at the bottom of a staircase away from dining area. It was very quiet as I was the only person there. On coming out from the toilets the same man was lurking outside of the ladies. He had frightened me and proceeded to walk up staircase with me behind him. He didn’t speak or explain himself. I informed my party to his behaviour.. Whatever the explanation good, bad or indifferent you cannot lurk outside of a ladies toilet. I can only appeal to any woman at a venue of any kind to take care in similar circumstances i.e. take a member of your party with you. In know way would I want to detract from the wonderful food service and staff who could not do enough for you within the restaurant setting.

Went on a Saturday for a late lunch, we were the only table in there so there was little to no ambience or atmosphere which was a great shame, though on the plus side we could hear each other speak and the service was quick. Food was lovely though, couldn't fault that.

It was surprisingly good and the waiter- Damir was friendly and very good service.. Definitely would recommend it and we will go back again

Somehow this restaurant just never seems to deliver. The food was mediocre, the service was extremely slow and amateurish. We try it every now and again to see if things have improved, but sadly they have not. It is amazing that Gordon Ramsay has not sorted the place out and brought it up to the standards one would expect from one of his restaurants.

Despite being a slow Monday night, we were given white glove and amazing service for our large party of 9. Food was excellent, especially the pesto lasagne!!!

Had lunch with customers and they had chosen to eat here. The food was good but I felt a bit overpriced. We had porterhouse steaks and some of it was delicious and other bits chewy. I was more disappointed with the service as I felt the servers almost just wanted us to eat and get out and made simple errors like topping up still water with sparkling. Not sure I would choose to return.

The place was quiet midweek so lacking atmosphere (it’s a big space) but I can’t fault the service, which was superb, nor the quality of the cocktails at the bar. The food was ok without being amazing. We had a fun visit overall and certainly felt well looked after by the lovely staff

On our last day of Easter vacation, we were able to end our London getaway in the best possible way, enjoying a great experience. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with a smile on our face from the first moment, making sure we were comfortable and that we didn't lack anything. When we went to order, we had it very clear what we wanted from the beginning. We were going to order the Wellington tenderloin to share and maybe choose an appetizer to take before the Wellington. Just when the waiter arrives to take our order, he tells us that the Wellington is not possible because they still have nothing prepared and that it would take at least 45 minutes extra than the time needed for the Wellington, this deflated our illusion of eating at the Gordon Ramsay restaurant and his star dish, as well as put us against the ropes as we ran the risk of missing our flight. We asked to be allowed to look at the menu again and when the head waiter came to take our order, we asked again if the Wellington would be possible (we didn't want to lose hope), he spoke to the chefs, and they managed to move heaven and earth so that we could try the Wellington. We are very grateful for the attention of the head waiter who allowed us to try the dish we were so eager to try and also emphasize that it was one of the best experiences. We also want to thank him for the detail they had with us when they knew we were celebrating a birthday. A highly recommended experience and one that we can assure you we all enjoyed. We hope to be able to enjoy their cuisine again on another occasion.

We stayed local to the restaurant for the weekend with our 7 year old daughter. The service was great. The staff were warm, friendly and professional. Our excellent waiter was Francesco. The atmosphere was fabulous. We loved the industrial and retro combo styling. Our daughter loved all her food, and kids go free is a great incentive for families to eat here. She devoured the olives, mac and cheese and brownie with ice cream. My partner and I chose the beef wellington which was pricey at £110 for two, but absolutely delicious and well worth the cost. We’d definitely go back. We had a lovely evening.

We came in for the Beef Wellington for my partner’s birthday, and while we were disappointed they’d ran out of that & the porterhouse the service well made up for it! We were provided with a free selection of desserts and glass of bubbly to make up for our disappointment, which we greatly appreciated! The steaks we ended up getting were absolutely amazing, really recommend the bone marrow sauce.

So slow! When I arrived the manager seemed quite rude and shooed me away to deal with another group. Then we asked for fast service as we had theatre reservations but it took half an hour for some starters and chips. Food was meh but so expensive!

My son had saved up to buy a voucher to bread street kitchen Southwark. The restaurant was nice, as expected with ira industrial yet warm feel. On arrival, the team were having a sevive briefing at the reception desk, so we had to wait (and listen) to the nominated sections the waiters were given before even being acknowledged. The ambience, lighting, and feel of the restaurant were really nice. We were brought over menus and explained the options. They had an ala carte menu plus a special beef Wellington menu for £90 which gave you a limited choice of starter Wellington to share and limited dessert choice. we chose a'la carte but I think we dhoukd have chosen the Wellington. The starters were nice but expensive for what we got. Also they felt like they had been pre made/ prepped and then just finished off. The mains we didsapointing and expensive.i had ribs which felt like it had just been reheated ....my son had steak which was cooked perfectly but expensive considering it doesn't come with and veg or side unless you buy as extras. Desserts were OK, my son loved his chocolate fondant.....My cheesecake just seemed it had been made days ago or bought in and then just served. Drinks menu was well balanced and nice selections. Service was fine. It was intrusive and a little pushy. Great knowledge but too much upsell and also begging nature to write a review. The man that greeted us was nice enough, although his approach came across almost condensing and argonaut, I guess, as we didn't look like big spenders. All in all it was an OK meal.

I’ve been to other restaurants and paid almost the same for one slice of beef wellington. Didn’t realise this was a whole wellington between two people. Takeaway it was

Came here for our anniversary dinner as our daughter gifted us with a virgin experience voucher. We called and emailed in advance to make sure we could use our voucher for the set menu at 18:30 to which we were informed was fine to do. Upon arriving we were informed that the set menu stops at 6 and they will take it off the bill. So basically another £80 was added on what should have been an already paid meal. The food was mediocre at best. The mac and cheese was plain and dry. Th idiot sandwich was the most expensive toastie I’ve ever had. Bout was still just a toastie. My wife had the burger which was actually very nice. The wait time seemed extremely long. Over all we was in there for about 2.5 hours. The server was fantastic couldn’t do more to help us. Just very disappointed as I have been a long fan of all Ramsey projects.

Had a lovely Mothers Day lunch with 3 generations here on Sunday. Matteo was wonderfully helpful with our toddler's needs, and was on hand for anything additional we needed. Will return for the service. Thanks again, Matteo! Clara

Great experience. I visited last week with some clients, we found the food very good and the service even better! Our very friendly and attentive waiter, Matteo provided us with a brilliant experience and gave us some great recommendations. I will definitely visit again!!

Disappointing to be told idiot sandwich not available without sourdough, even though burger buns clearly on the menu with other mains. Not great.

The food was great, Matteo, our waiter, was excellent and attentive to all our needs. The only negative I can think of is that the place is a bit pricey for big groups.

Great service but the food was average. Had the pork belly main which the meat itself was lovely but the rest (fries, honey roasted carrots and cabbage) were unseasoned so quite bland. The dessert was delicious (chocolate fondant)

Had an amazing meal at Bread Street - Southwark. The food was simply amazing. And a big thank you to our waiter Matteo for his recommendations. I’m always up to try different G&Ts and with Matteo’s suggestion we tried the Murcian lemon and Japanese, both of which were gorgeous. The pork belly and the rib eye steak were cooked to perfection and the duck salad so tasty. The portion sizes are not big but the flavours are and even after a dessert of sticky toffee pudding and coconut sorbet, both myself and partner left having had good, well cooked, flavour-filled food without feeling uncomfortably full. But once again thank you Matteo for being attentive without being intrusive. Not the cheapest meal but still a very enjoyable evening out.

A great experience at bread street food is really amazing especially the steak melting in your mouth. A special thank you to Gabriel that added to the whole experience and made our stay a memorable one. We will definitely be back and recommend your place..

To note: I used a Virgin Experience voucher here, which was actually a deposit for a meal that was three times the value of the voucher. Yes, lovely food and pleasant service. Was able to park nearby at a premium. A nice experience but really not worth the price tag. £150 for two without alcohol or dessert. That covered a curry, a burger, two sides, a cola, and an orange juice.

Arrived on time. Waited over 5 minutes to be greeted at the door - seemingly being studiously ignored by various team members - and was then told to wait at the bar whilst a table for 3 was prepared - before eventually being showed to a table for 6 or 7 that had been vacant the entire time my party was asked to wait. Our food order was eventually taken some 15 to 20 minutes after we’d been given the menus / and only after I had asked if anyone could take our order. Felt strangely unwelcome. The food was fine - and as there certainly seemed no urgency to seat and serve us we ended up taking our time over the meal and having a very relaxed catch up.

We came here in the early evening and were given the menu. We then noticed that there was a special winter menu at a reasonable price available until 6.30 but we had not been given it so we had to ask for it. Although the food was good the service was dreadful. They were obviously understaffed and we were first served by a young waiter who had obviously had no training and didn't know how to take our order. Eventually the head waiter came over and took our order. We wanted to order a bottle of Malbec priced at £36 but he said it wasn't available and tried to sell us one st £125!! Needless to say we chose another wine. We also ordered a bottle of white wine which was put in an ice bucket away from our table. No waiter ever came over to fill our glasses and twice I had to get up and go over and get the wine myself. Maybe Gordon Ramsey should forget going to other restaurants to show them how to run them and come to one of his own.

Made a reservation, when we showed up…there were multiple open tables. Service was slow, the Duck salad was delicious, the fish and chips needed salt, and the ravioli was not good. I wouldn’t stop here again. Definitely better places.

Gabriela provided excellent service. Her professionalism, efficiency, and friendly demeanor surpassed my expectations. I am extremely satisfied and highly recommend her.

The food was shockingly bad. Small portions, overpriced and poor quality. The service was very average. Definitely won’t be returning. I’d recommend spending your money elsewhere.

Our first visit since the name change. A disappointing check-in, we waited several minutes for anyone to bother seeing to us. A comfortable table, we ordered from the full menu. There was little amongst the starters we fancied - but the olives and bread were very good. The mains were OK without being exciting, cod and raviolini. A glass of Chardonnay was excellent - and the price knocked off because of the delay at check in which was nice.

To be honest, I enjoy that night out. I found no fault with this place: the food is excellent and Pavel service was on top!

A full house, with insufficient staff. Those that were on duty, seemed to work hard, but were unable to cater for a busy New Year’s Eve crowd. Repeated requests for tap water, were greeted with an ok, but nothing arrived. We dine in London frequently and this was our worst experience by some distance.

Service was aggressive/rude, every time they poured wine they spilled it and never apologised. Glasses were dirty. Food took a LONG time, kids meal took 1.5hrs, overpriced wine and food just mediocre. Very disappointing. Also the sinks in the toilet were broken with no hot water running. Will not return.

When we arrived we had a sit at the bar for a couple of drinks and a nice chat with the barman. Amazing food and service, and the set menu was brilliant.

Everything was as you will expect from a Gordon Ramsay restaurant, food and service and the attention on details was absolutely fantastic. We’ve been seated at the bar as our table was not ready yet and all for the best as Cristian our bartender drinks were spectacular. We will be back!

I came here with my partner, we arrived early for the booking and decided to get a drink at the bar. Bartender and waitress service was fab, as was the food. The female manager/maitre de on the other hand really brought the level of service down. The greeting was pretty hostile and awkward about seating early despite the restaurant being empty. When we did sit, she gave us 1 menu for 2 people which our waitress duly corrected. Overall her attitude seemed to be she was too good to serve us which brought the exemplary service from other staff down. Food was great, we had tamarind chicken wings which were delicious, butter chicken and baked cod, all delicious.

The food was tasty and well cooked but it was served on stone cold plates so that it cooled very quickly and was unpleasantly cold to eat when only half way through. Very disappointing, especially as we were very hungry because the service had been very slow.

Stumbled upon this place, Wonderful service and atmosphere, great for kids lunch, good selection of pizzas and drinks. Federico is fabulous too! Super clean bathrooms!

We were treated like VIP, very good service! We were told when the starters were about to be served. The food itself was excellent as well, the dishes were at perfect temperature. Very tasty! I do highly recommend, you won't be disappointed!

We have dined at this restaurant numerous times over the years but this is the first time for about 5 years as we now live in Dorset. It just gets better and better. Food brilliant, ambiance brilliant, service brilliant. Thank heavens you still serve the curry and sticky toffee pudding. It is worth visiting just for those. I regret that I did not ask the name of our young manager but his attentiveness and humour certainly added to our enjoyment.

Wouldn’t recommend. Food was average. Was a gift through an experience voucher and still ended up paying £30+. The only meat on the starter menu was unavailable. £6 for a bottle of water we didn’t ask for. Everything plus a 15% Service charge. Wouldn’t recommend.

Arrived in the pouring rain so absolutely drenched. Not greeted at door. No offer of help to take our wet coats. Had to hang them on the stairs behind our seat. Staff were friendly when they were serving us but getting their attention in a virtually empty restaurant was a challenge. Had to ask for cutlery as table for four had only 3 lots. Was bought cutlery but no serviette. Attention to detail from staff sadly lacking. For the price of the food and with the Gordon Ramsay name, expected a lovely dining experience but that was sadly not the case. Food was good and have no complaints at all about that but considering they automatically whack on a 15% service charge, would have expected excellent customer service.

Went for a virgin experience set menu. The staff were really nice but they couldn’t get anything right. They brought white instead of red wine. The chef forgot the tofu in the bsk poke ball even though the meal comes with tofu without any additions and it took 25 mins to get the bill even though they took all our dishes and glasses and we sat in our coats. They also only had 2 other tables for a staff of 3. For a free meal we still ended up paying over 40 pounds because of service charge, bad wine and they gave us a six pound bottle of water we didn’t want. Would never come back again. Food was alright but not the standard of Gordon Ramsey we expected.

The Butter Chicken Curry is delicious! Christian welcomed me and provided excellent service and recommendations. The Old Fashioned, made by Christin, was delicious. The execution was on point. Exactly what I would expect from a Gordon Ramsay restaurant.

The food at Bread Street Kitchen was very good if a bit on the small side. Service was efficient if a little slow at times but we were not in a hurry so that didn't matter. Overall a nice evening with good food.

Such a nice experience, Beef Wellington wonderful. We ended up with monkey shoulder cheesecake with Chambord liqueur!!!!’ that was an explosion of flavours in our tongue. Highly recommended. Iannis and Cristian were very friendly and They gave us very good recommendations. ;)

Where to start? The waiter with body odour who didn't speak English? The sticky floor and table? The wobbly table and gale force air con blowing on us all evening? Or the long list of items on the menu that weren't available (including the beef wellington). The overpriced wine was a huge disappointment too. What an absolute waste of a LOT of money. My son has been looking forward to going to a Gordon Ramsey for months and it was a huge letdown for him. Gordon will be laughing all the way to the bank. Not recommended at all.

I just went to the Liverpool branch for dinner the other day! I was so impressed with the environment and the quality of the food! Especially the Beef Wellington, it’s fantastic! So I came back to London and immediately went to share this delicious dish with my family! Unfortunately, I was disappointed this time. Firstly, this famous Beef Wellington tastes completely different to what you get in Liverpool. I wonder if the taste in the south is saltier! Beef only tastes salty! No meaty taste! The mashed potatoes on the side were very salty! Later, the restaurant manager politely changed my carrots for me, but the taste was still salty! Other food can be said to be of average quality! I am very disappointed with this experience! Because this time I only have a week to spend with my family in the UK! I specially brought my family here to eat this Wellington beef tenderloin! This was a wrong choice for me! This is what this experience felt like! It seems like you are a very famous restaurant, so you don’t take quality seriously at all!

I looooooooove bread street kitchen!! The service is impeccable, and one of my favourite brunch menu! Negroni to die for!
