Pizza Express in Southwark

Was honestly really surprised and appalled by the service. My friend and I waited at their entrance for almost ten minutes, but no one came to talk to us and take us to our seat, we didn't see a single server downstairs. We went upstairs and stood by the steps and were rudely told to move by a server. When I asked another server that my friend and I were waiting for a table, we were again rudely told that we would have to wait and that because we had come from the downstairs entrance we'd have to be served after everyone that came from the upstairs entrance. My friend and I left and ate somewhere else. Granted, there was not nearly enough staff present for the restaurant, they need to be more well staffed.

Very bad treatment by the employee

Absolutely appalling visit. I want to be clear that the staff were very friendly but clearly hugely overworked and run off their feet. Far too many tables for just two members of staff downstairs where we were. They didn’t stop for a second and we felt extremely uncomfortable to have have to ask them for anything - as a result we didn’t order extra drinks or desserts. We felt the chefs must have been in the same position as I have never had such sloppy pizzas - tomato sauce all the way to most of the pizza edges so no crust as such. Toppings erratic. The food was tasty as ever you just felt the pure greed of seating that many customers without adequate staff. We only booked our table a couple of hours before we cane so if there were a staffing issue then at that point bookings should have been limited accordingly. The staff were not able to keep control of the atmosphere there was a very large table where the children were being exceptionally noisy and shouting / singing loudly to the point I couldn’t hear my own children across out table. In the end I had to say something to the parents which other tables around expressed gratitude for so I know it wasn’t just us finding it unbearable. Also the crazy amount of tables squeezed in downstairs means ours - mid way along the back - means that we had to really squeeze between a couple of tables in order to get to the bathroom - it was awkward for all. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant at all.

What a warm and welcoming place! Pizza's were lovely and served super quick. My friend was able to order gluten free. We weren't rushed out, and had a good leisurely chat. What a find!

This is a chain pizza restaurant near Tate Modern. The two of us ordered one piece of American Hot. First of all, it had a spicy taste that suited Korean tastes, and the bread was very thin and crispy, so it was more delicious than expected! I was lucky enough to sit by the window on the second floor and was able to see the Thames River while eating. And the male server on the second floor was very friendly! suggestion!!

I m cancer patient in Guys hospital. My friend and dad went to take away pizza. They brought pizza cold one in 2min and they also changed twice card payment. I dont know why they are like this . I know my dad doesn’t speak English that much. They should not do this again. So disappointed experience for us.

Really busy and we didn’t make a reservation for an Xmas booking however we were quickly and politely given a table for 5, our server was a bit grumpy for pizza express standards - would have tipped more if she was more polite and make us feel more welcome.

The only reason the food isn't getting a 1 star is because the olives, dough balls and calamari we had to start were absolutely delicious. We had finished our started when the mains arrived, and we had been sat for a while but the plates had not been cleared. On a 2 seater table there was no room for our pasta dishes and sides to be placed down. Both pasta dishes were disgusting. I chose the "new" parmigiano, it had clearly been sitting in a big vat of pre-made pasta and sauce mixed. It was mostly cold and some bits of the pasta were dried out and crusty. The sauce was the most basic of simple tomato sauces, bland at best, the breaded chicken had absolutely no flavour and there was a thick layer of tasteless cheese on top. The most bland food I have ever eaten. I ate a little of the chicken and left the rest. My friend had a spicy chorizo dish, again the pasta had clearly been made up in a big vat and had been sitting there, it was not spicy at all, in face the only flavour was smoked, it smelt vile and tasted worse. My friend didn't eat that either. I would have spoken to the server had they actually done a check back on the table. We told them when we called them over to ask for the bill but they kept just offering for us to take it home with us, even though I repeatedly told them the food was practically inedible. Really disappointing after the calamari was the best I'd had in a long time! The only saving grace.

El personal era muy amable y la ubicación es brillante y conveniente. Desafortunadamente, la comida no era demasiado buena y no terminamos nuestros platos. Siento que pudimos haber visitado en una noche muy ocupada y la comida estaba apurada. La pizza no era muy agradable y realmente no disfrutamos del entrante o la red.

Hemos comido aquí en varias ocasiones y el personal y la comida siempre han sido geniales. En esta ocasión, mientras que el servicio fue rápido una vez que pedimos pedir, el personal parecía bastante miserable e inferior y los bordes de la pizza se quemaron con la pizza muy seca. Si hubiéramos tenido más tiempo, habría pedido un reemplazo, pero íbamos directamente a un concierto de villancicos. Esperemos que esto haya sido puntual. Y aunque apreciar que el personal estaba cansado en el período previo a la Navidad, una sonrisa entusiasta y un tono de voz optimista ayudan mucho a crear el ambiente adecuado

Come on guys - LOOK in your ladies toilets. You need new toilet seats, a bit of general maintenance, check the cubicle doors are user-friendly.....AT LEAST use some heavy-duty descaler on the sinks! The loos are letting you down. Decent food, nice server. Shabby toilets

Brilliant, got our table on time. Service was quick too.

I've been there with a group of 20 students. We got an extra long table, the service worked quickly and all the meals arrived at more or less the same time. There are lots of different kinds of dishes on the menu so everybody should find something. The taste and size of portions are great but not outstanding but it matches the prices. All in all a great place with reasonable prices, nice food and good service, especially for younger people.

3 of us stop for a quick dessert and a drink, after 8 pm. We was greated by the Manager. Even we did not have a booking, and the restaurant was full, we was accommodated. The service was fast and we really enjoyed our brownies and wines. Thank you again for having us tonight!

Was nice ,cosy & clean! Food was delicious & also catered for me gluten & dairy free pizza and pasta! The thing that ruined our experience was we ordered a starter each & main meal each & they brung it all out together! So we had to rush our food do it didn't go cold! They wasn't busy either so should of sent it back really but we not that kind of people!!.

Solo para dar un gran saludo a Pizza Express London Bridge por organizar una fantástica fiesta de preparación de pizza para el cumpleaños de mi hijo ayer. Los niños (y adultos) todos se lo pasaron genial, y la pizza estaba deliciosa. Sin duda recomendable para fiestas infantiles.

Exceptional service from staff and manager! Staff were very welcoming and prompt. Pizza took slightly longer to arrive but their service made up for it :)

The service was quick and the food rated good. It was a good place to get away from the nearby crowds at Borough Market and London Bridge.

Went out of their way to accommodate my family

We booked a table and we had to wait a long time for our starters. They forgot to bring some of our starters so we had to remind them. After we had finished they failed to remove our plates from our starters and we then waited with dirty plates on our table for around 45 minutes. Once our food finally started to arrive, it was cold and two of our meals were forgotten about.

They put me and my partner right at the back of the room behind a pillar, and then didn't have half the items on the menu. It then took ages between each meal and over 45 minutes from us to get the bill. We asked for the bill from one server, another one saw us waiting and rudely said we needed to ask for the bill, tow high we said we already had. Some serves are lovely but that one particular woman was incredibly rude. Overall, not a good experience at all compared to other Pizza Express restaurants we've gone to in the past.

One of the nicer Pizza Expresses. Good food and nice views. However, I was a little frustrated by the front of house lady, who seemed to be on some sort of quest to seat customers at the 'wall table' (one of few tables with zero view of the river and to quote our waiter 'no one likes to sit there'!) The restaurant was largely empty but we were seated here. We declined and our waiter kindly moved us. I then noticed the next customers were seated there also. How odd.

It was great lunch at pizza express after long. Asian lady was so friendly and lovely to served us great recommendations and fast service. Pizza was good and relaxed atmosphere. Will come back xx

Terrible pizzas. Don't make the mistake of coming here if you want a pizza.

It's not really a restaurant, it doesn't even have bathrooms. It is a store to buy a portion and take it with you. 10% is added to the price “for the attention”

This is one of the least well-known pizza places along the Thames on the south of the river, so as a result, you are more likely to get a table! If you don't like Pizza Express this won't be for you, but I do, and the staff are pleasant even while very busy & the food is good. So it is my hidden treasure in a busy summer!

Daisy was amazing! We had some of the best pizza that we have tasted. And believe me we have traveled. Daisy recommended the cheesecake and she did not disappoint it was amazing the caramel sauce and chocolate swirl was just the right touch. Our hats go off to you guys thank you for feeling or tummies and warming our hearts

The food wasn't too bad and our group was served quickly but the terrible experience with the staff overshadowed everything. The waitresses were rude, short and unfriendly. They showed annoyance when we arrived and they spoke with a harsh tone, saying that we "must wait!" and "get out the way!" I want to feel welcomed and relaxed when I'm at a restaurant, this is just not it.

What's not to like - their food is of consistent quality. I'm never disappointed, and being in their "club"makes it really affordable to dine in.

This was a spontaneous visit, but I looked forward to it as haven't visited Pizza Express since Covid. On arrival I asked the waitress if I can use the O2 Priority voucher. She said yes and accepted my order for Romana Polo Forza pizza...when I asked for the bill and showed the coupon, the waitress suggested that the coupon is only for Classic Pizza range. I thought it was somewhat dishonest and misleading that the lady didn't flag it at the time of my order as she new that I intended to use O2 Priority voucher for pizza at 6.99. Anyway, it took 45-50 mins for 1 pizza to arrive and yet the pizza was stone cold. I paid £17 and left rather dissapointed.

Pleasent experience, Sannija was a lovely waiter and the atmosphere was lovely with a warm envoirment and cozy music. Food was amazing i reccomend choosing the romana base for the pizza🤩

I am a coeliac and was able to have a really good pizza plus some garlic bread. I also went to another brunch and felt really safe while eating there. It is a bit pricey but was worth the experience.

Service was good in this branch. Affordable meal out. Pizza options are as expected. I still prefer an artisan pizzeria and there are lots of good ones in London. Pasta options are sub par, sorry. Overall, I would return if unable to get a table in a more niche dinner spot!

7pm booking - 16 of us. No one at the entrance to greet us. Went upstairs & told to come back down. Orders slow, 2 peoples meals were forgotten and we had a long wait.

Ordered on Uber eats and an item from the order was missing. Called up the restaurant and told them the item was missing, they appeared helpful at first and told us they would send out and driver to replace the item however no one turned up. Think this so unprofessional from the restaurant.

I ate a great pizza at Pizza Express. It was a crispy pizza and most importantly Nadia helped us a lot about what to eat, thank you Nadia...

As soon as we entered, the meter asked us if we had any allergies, which we were able to assure that my partner's celiac disease was well treated. The service of the waitress was excellent, not only attentive, but friendly. We made something simple, a gluten-free pizza, and a new dish of penne al forno (which are also gluten-free!) and it was all very good. Possibly the pizza was a bit small but our aim was to get out of there paying £20 per person and that was it. In a place like London it's not easy to find gluten-free food, and after a lot of walking, that meal helped us a lot. We will definitely repeat, and Pizza Express is already on our list as a place of reference.

Dull and bland service, I felt like I was eating at a fast food chain. Staff didn't interact with the customers at all. There was not even a hello or a thank you, let alone a smile.

I went there and the place was full of smoke from the kitchen. Literally, you could see it in the air. It's very unhealthy to breathe in smoke. It gave me a headache the next day. The staff is exposed to it every day. No, it doesn't create a nice atmosphere!!

Really enjoyed our meal and visit to Pizza Express Borough High Street. We had excellent service and were shown particular kindness by Minisha. We really appreciated the help that she gave us. Would definitely visit again when visiting London.

Garlic dough balls were great! Romano pizza is a very thin crust that you can fold over. Pizza was good. Italian wine selection was good. Prices were decent for London.

I went in to order a hot pizza, they had a good menu so I ordered one. I then asked if I could eat it upstairs with a view towards London Bridge. The waiter said ‘no problem, it’ll be 5mins’. I was surprised it would be cooked so quickly. 25mins later I’m starving so I call them (I’m literally upstairs), the manager comes on the call and asks me to come downstairs. I comply. The waiter is there and said the pizza was ready 10mins ago (5min was lies). I asked, why did you not bring it upstairs and he said, ‘It’s a takeaway, like I told you’ (he didn’t). Long story short, 2 stars for a warm pizza.

We visited here on a Sunday evening, pre booked as we are staying locally and came here last year. We needn't have booked, it was quiet at 7pm and there were perhaps 4 couples and one small group in at that time. We were shown to a table but it was drafty as was under the air-conditioning and we asked to move. This wasn't a problem. A guy came to take our order and he thought he knew me as a previous headmaster of his but this wasn't the case. We ordered doughballs, olives, a dip and 2 pasta meals plus a bottle of wine. During this time, nearly all the diners had left so apart from a couple of people there was only us in the place. The wine arrived... no food activity at all apart from the occasional takeaway service. 40 minutes later our main course arrived so we said to the guy, what about our starters? He looked a bit weird and sort of apologised (to be fair, we couldn't really understand what he said), took the pasta away and then a few minutes later the starters arrived. So we ate these and then later the pasta arrived which he said had been freshly done. I'm not sure I could have confirmed one way or another but at least it was good. We weren't asked about dessert and the bill arrived. A few of our items were free via the Pizza Express club, especially as it was my birthday month and with silver you get a pizza or pasta free as an extra. We could see they had left off the olives and dip and given we paid mainly for our drinks and one meal it didn't seem worth the hassle of complaining and making the experience even worse. We are regular Pizza Express customers and expect way better treatment than this which was awful. We had booked again for another night but decided to cancel. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else where they are bothered about your custom. Really we should have said we're not paying anything, they didn't deserve it.

More than an hour of waiting when there weren't many customers, for 2 pizzas, very average, and no commercial gesture, and in particular a very unpleasant waiter with an "insult" in English. Dirty toilet, no tables cleared TO RUN!!!

Really good food a bit noisy though

The food was fine. However, the service was awful. As soon as we arrived the waiter frowned upon us when we asked for a table (maybe because we didn't have a reservation, but still). Things got worse when we went to pay, because the same waiter, not only frowned upon us again when we asked to pay in cash, but also didn't let us do it and we were forced to pay with card. Not to mention the fact that she would always show signs of annoyance during this whole process. We still payed the optional service charge, but we shouldn't have payed it because the way we were served is definitely not worth the extra. We definitely felt as if we were an inconvenience during our meal in this restaurant and would not recommend it to anyone.

We went to eat on April 1, 24, we ordered five pizzas with three drinks and the famous rap water cost us 93.90 pounds, they were good, nothing to write home about and they didn't charge a tip, which was very good, recommendable.

Great place with perfect taste, fast service and reasonable prices, we enjoyed it on Sunday evening. Lasagna, pizzas, dough balls with cheese- all was wonderful, thank you!

We ordered polenta chips, chilli prawn, and dough balls as starters. Never been so disappointed with all the starters and I have always loved Pizza Express before. The main meals-pizzas and pasta however, was the saviour. Service was lovely, the waiter was very attentive. Next time, I will probably skip the starters.

One of our best pizza express experiences yet! The pizzas were absolutely delicious and our starters were equally brilliant. Highly recommend the new dough balls al forno as a starter. Staff were attentive and service quick. No delays with food or drinks coming out. Atmosphere okay, not too quiet and not loud so conversation was easy. Very happy.

Lovely meal and service by Minisha

The food was good, very rushed to order, service OK. In their defence, it was a Saturday evening, so I imagine they would want to turn tables around quite quickly, but someone coming up to your table every couple of minutes trying to take an order and then being told after 10 minutes we have to order now was a bit much. All in all it was an OK experience. Quick note: if your on the upper level, you could easily walk straight past it, it's a small door way in a small alley way. Wheelchair users, buggies and people who struggle with steps should use the lower level entrance

Minisha was very friendly and helpful, as were all the staff. Making a big fuss of my daughter throughout the meal. Food was brilliant as it always is at Pizza Express and will definitely visit again next time we are in the area.

Minisha is a star!! She is very professional and polite waitress! She welcomed me with a smile and I’ve got all answers for my questions about menus. I asked for a food suggestion and the it was excellent. She carefully asked me if I liked everything, after I received my food. I really enjoyed food, atmosphere and of course Minisha service! Thank you very much indeed, Minisha! I had a wonderful experience!

Visit mid-February 2024 British pizza chain. I was passing by and was hungry so I went in without a plan. The store consists of the first and second floors, and we were guided to the second floor. Most of the staff weren't unfriendly, but they were expressionless. Except for the unknown male waiter with dreadlocks. When we asked for menu recommendations, he kindly gave us recommendations and provided friendly service afterward.👍🏻 I wanted to tip, but when we decided what percentage to tip at the checkout, he thought we were asking for something else and firmly said no🥲 In the end, he did. It's a pity I couldn't give it to you. We ordered the recommended half-and-half pizza as shown in the photo with a drink, and it cost 26.85 pounds. After eating for two people, I felt like the portion was a bit lacking and the taste was average!

The service from start to finish was very poor. When we arrived in the restaurant, the woman who greeted us summoned us with her finger to the counter while saying ‘’hello? hello?’’- The woman who served us our food wasn’t friendly and we felt as if we were an inconvenience. The food was nice but the pizzas were over cooked and the bottom and crust was black. I would much rather go to one of the other pizza restaurants around London Bridge if it meant that we didn’t feel that we had to apologise to the staff for asking for more tap water. Very disappointing experience!
