Poor service. Rude staff. Avoid

Such a wonderful surprise at this understated restaurant so close to the beach. Fresh fresh fish and seafood, fab chef and the Best moules I have had in years and I have it a lot! Celeriac? Hubby very happy with his very fresh fish, delicious Italian white wine and fab music an ambiance. Nice loos with flannel hand towels!! The starter portions are fine for lunch otherwise it cld be a bit on the expensive side. Such an awesome find!

Just stepped out of this cosy restaurant,and want to recommend it to every fish and seafood gourmand out there! The food is terrific,the staff super friendly and thoughtful,made our dinner with two small kids very enjoyable. I ordered cod as I wanted to share something simple with the baby,well,even the cod isn't that simple there,it has its twist,and it was delicious! There are a few details that I loved - a hook for coats by the entrance,Ottolenghi cookbook that you can browse while waiting,small real towels in the bathroom.

Such a lovely little restaurant. Less ‘trendy’ than the similar one down the road but every dish looked and tasted delicious. Nice that they offered smaller portion options for some dishes.. The fish and chips had a lovely, crisp light batter and fresh cod. Creamy, garllcky moules. And we loved the smoked mackerel pate and whitebait with homemade tartare too. Good value and lovely, friendly staff looking after us too. One small thing - we asked if we could have the window seat but were told it was booked. It was a v quiet time of day and no one sat at that table while we there. Just bad timing I guess.

I ate very well. For me and my son who are used to eating fish it was a pleasant surprise. One star less because I wonder what the point of terry cloth tablecloths in the bathroom is for drying hands and then putting napkins and paper tablecloth on the table!

We dined here for our birthdays. The food was delicious. I had the Camembert to start followed by muscles others had salt and pepper squid king prawns monk fish bream and seafood linguine. All were cooked perfectly. Lovely restaurant and lovely staff.

Absolutely loved this restaurant. The service was impeccable, the girl looked after me AND my dog so well, and the food was devastatingly tasty. Recommend scallops and king prawn linguine. So glad I found this little gem!

Superb fish restaurant with excellent service

Went there today for lunch with my two daughters and granddaughter. The staff are very welcoming and helpful 😊 and the food was delicious 😋 at reasonable prices. We will definitely be going back.

The staff were the most professional staff I have encountered in a restaurant in a long time and the food was excellent. It was nice that the gratuity was not automatically added to the bill. This place is a must visit whether you live in Hastings or you are just here for a day. It is a very relaxed atmosphere so you will feel overdressed if you arrive in your best suit or dress but so nice. The portions were generous and service was top drawer.

Really fantastic seafood: simply prepared, flavoursome and fresh. Waiter Cosmin was incredibly attentive and dare I say it one of the highlights of the evening! 😅 Pushed the boat out and had cocktail, mid priced bottle of wine (Picpoul) starter, main, dessert and other bits for £61 per head. Incredibly reasonable. This is a firm ‘I’ll be back’

Absolute pleasant experience to eat in here. The dish is created by their own - fresh & delicious. I tried the fish cake and definitely recommend to anyone to try! Staff is very friendly and thoughtful too. Loved it!

Lovely local restaurant with local catches. I had the hastings bass, which was on the special menu. It was good, but rather expensive at nearly £30. I don't think it was worth that. The fish was served skin up, so I didn't really taste the sauce much. We did order a side of creamed spinach, which went really but paid for as an additional side.

Wonderful staff and restaurant. Really made an effort to make my mum's birthday feel special and the seafood linguine and wine was next level.

Delightful place almost at the end of the road and under the cliff. Delicious seafood, cooked freshly with a nice atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful. Car park very close and so is the beach.

We arrived with our dog Millie to a very warm & friendly welcome. Made a fuss over Millie which she loved. They even had treats for her. Couldn't have asked for a better place. Food excelled it's self. There was nourish to vacate. 100% Happy Customer & we will visit again Rainer

Best fish and chips during my entire month in the UK. Perfect taste, texture, and portions. Lovely ambiance and location, a bit away from the hustle bustle. I will be back for more, next time I am in the area!

This restaurant is cosy and unassuming, the food is excellent, and the staff are so nice and attentive. They paid special attention to my 2 year old, who ate everything he was given, which is unusual! Our party had a mix of the starters which included the whitebait, arancini balls, deep fried squid and halloumi fries, main course included mussels, chicken burger, Tuna steak (special), and monk fish and everything was eaten. We will definitely be coming back, thank you for lovely evening!

Great restaurant - love these independent one offs! Mussels so fresh & tender, cod loin gave me food envy! Family of 5 including 2 kids who cleared their plates! Definitely be back for another visit. Staff very lovely too xxx

Went to Undercliffe House for lunch whilst in Hastings! This place is brilliant and definitely the place to get premium food in Hastings for a very reasonable price. The owner is great along with all his staff, very organised and helpful. Brilliant vibe with some great music too. We had a number of different dishes which were all great. Definitely would recommend the local beer too. All in all would highly recommend!

Love this little hidden gem. First time visited THIS YEAR, Was there at every opportunity last. Wonderful food as always. Staff attentive, T'was my mums favourite restaurant last year. She absolutely adored her seafood and even as a seafood and steak Cook for most of her life.. couldn't fault this place.

Yes, for sure worth five stars. Price/quality outstanding. The restaurant is located in the old fishermen's area of Hastings Old Town. From outside maybe not too impressive BUT from there on, warm welcome, service, timeliness and above all quality of food - excellent.

Great quality ingredients, cooked wonderfully. Yes, prices are a bit higher than neighbouring restaurants, but quality always comes at a cost so definitely worth it. While restaurants nearby serve greasy frozen fish/chips, the Undercliffe House uses fresh ingredients and it shows in the taste. Will definitely be back!

Atmosphere is great, specials on the menu were amazing and fresh. We were served by Molly and she was lovely and attentive so we have a lovely experience and definitely recommend this place :)

Had a couple of afternoon drinks here recently, and it's was really nice . the two girls were so friendly and welcoming . They do food as well, but we had already eaten. Nice little find down rock n ore. We will definitely try it for an evening out soon

Father’s Day lunch out at Undercliff House in Hastings Old Town. Staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient. Lovely food, good portion size, local ingredients. Wild tuna steak cooked to perfection with green beans and lovely sautéed potatoes . Would highly recommend.

Tio was very polite and helpful, answered all the questions we had about the food. Took his time and was interacting with our kids too. Excellent food as the compliment for the kitchen.

Really top restaurant. I had a lovely crisp glass of Picpoul, with the sea bass special. It was so tasty. Service was top notch. Will definitely return and try the turbot next time 🙌

Well presented small restaurant with open kitchen. Lovely decor and ambiance. Exceptional food. Some people say the service is slow, we say it’s fine. It’s meant to be enjoyed, not rushed. Service is friendly and relaxed. Scallops starter, then sea bass / smoked haddock with an excellent Italian white. Very good. Hard to find a better restaurant in the area.

Small portions and really expensive. Let me add by saying the portion I received was an insult to British fish and chips. The owner/chef was extremely rude to paying customers..rip off. Dont indulge them.

The attitude of the owner really ruined the experience for me. The starters (rye scallops) were fantastic (albeit small). But of the three of us, none were happy with our mains, which took an hour and a half to arrive. The fish and chips were extremely small, and the batter to fish ratio was well off because of the way they cut it. The quantity of chips was meagre at best - a clear rip off for £18. When told that that was all he'd get, our companion was rightly upset and walked out. When we asked to have the fish taken away, the owner brought it back and angrily insisted that it would be on the bill. Seeing as they provided food that wasn't up to expectations, we asked that it be taken off the bill. This made the owner very angry, and while he agreed to take it off the bill, he told us not to come back, and even walked back to our table to insult us, claiming he was older and more experienced than both of us put together. Really not how I'd like to be treated when paying over £120 for a meal. Of the other mains: Overpriced, poorly presented, and not cooked well. I'm sure the owner has their own side to this, and they might point out that they later offered to remake the fish and chips (after our companion had already left), but ultimately, if a meal doesn't meet expectations, you hope the restaurant will handle the situation with grace, and not shout at you or demean you. That's the main reason for my review. Edit in response to owner: I think your decision to insult your customers' intelligence in response to honest criticism speaks for itself. Quality was precisely what we were hoping for in our mains. I found it a real shame you weren't prepared to receive criticism on this front. I don't recall any table voicing their support of you loudly claiming to be older & more experienced than us. Perhaps these mysterious tables did so after we left. (and congratulations on reaching the age of 90+) To address your confusion on batter to fish ratio: Battered cod & chips is typically cut thinner than you had done for the reason that it provides a higher surface area for the batter, providing greater balance between batter and fish. By the way, I hope you provided your waiter with the entirety of the tip - it was intended for him, though your behaviour makes me concerned that you might have pocketed it.

Firstly I can't fault the flavour of the food and the service but the cost of food in relation to the portion size didn't equate to a fair deal. I would expect these prices and portions at a top London restaurant. To be charged £2 extra for a portion of tartare sauce because the portion size supplied wasn't in anyway adequate for the portion of whitebait which was a small portion size in itself. £20 for seafood linguine where the bowl external size was 32 cms but the actual size which held the pasta was only approximately 4" circumference. The quantity was more in keeping with a starter size. The quantity of seafood was 2 prawns 3 clams 2 squid and 6-8 mussels. The salt and pepper squid at £14.50 was uneventful and again for the price a small portion. It's such a shame because the food was lovely and a slightly larger portion would have made all the difference to the experience. We spent over a £120

Small European seafood restaurant, interesting and varied menu all cooked to order. Wine list was a surprise, varied and well priced. Good service and the food cooked to perfection. We will return

We went for lunch and the place was beyond our expectations. The food was amazing, the service one of the best - Teo especially made us feel really welcome and he was super attentive throughout our visit. We really hope to go back in the future! :)

Food is good, fresh and nice. However, it took very long time for us to wait, almost 1.5 h from sitting down until getting our food. It’s open kitchen and the smoke is all over the restaurant so we don’t really enjoy the overall experience.

Wonderful restaurant hidden away at the end of rock a nore on hastings sea front. Great selection of fresh caught fish and shell fish from local and Cornwall fisheries. Service was really good with staff attentive to our needs throughout service. Would highly recommend for a romatic meal for 2 or equally a group of friends.

Popped into this surprising gem for lunch today. Staff were very welcoming & it wasn’t difficult to make my choice from the extensive menu, as I love skate. I wasn’t disappointed - absolutely scrummy!! I’ve already told my friends about it & will certainly be back - please don’t change the music!!

Very fresh seafood, all the garnishments respect the flavour perfectly without covering the taste of the meat. A 'must go' for any trip in Hastings.

Thoroughly deserves its rating! Great fresh seafood and attentive service in a gorgeous space. Stunning whitebait (see pic), a lovely skate wing and delicious sea bass made for an unexpectedly excellent lunch. Suggest booking ahead just to be sure as it was busy on a late October Saturday lunch!
