Fantastic staff, wonderful environment and amazing food. I have been coming since a child and love bringing my children now .

Uncle Sam's is my go-to birthday meal year after year, the food is truly gorgeous! It isn't cheap but it's definitely worth it, especially the cheeseburger- it is genuinely the best burger I have ever had. Cannot rate Uncle Sam's highly enough, definitely recommend!

Went for my birthday on 5/7, just after lockdown, and again last week. Simple but outstanding food- just how we like it. I have been visiting Sam's for over 30 years, taking my kids and now grandkids and it never been anything other than outstanding food and service and always a great atmosphere. The staff can't do enough and are great with kids who are made especially welcome. Can't recommend it highly enough- if I could give it 6 stars I would. If you want expensive, fussy food in a fancy restaurant then perhaps this is not for you- but we love it and hopefully I'll be there for their 50th next year!

Horrible, es como si alguien hubiera pegado una furgoneta de hamburguesas con cuchara grasienta en el costado de un edificio y lo hubiera llamado restaurante. En realidad, vaya a una furgoneta de hamburguesas para obtener comida más barata y probablemente de mejor calidad. Disculpe la excusa de una hamburguesa, sin sabor en un pastel de pan con papas fritas congeladas. 9 por algo que debería costar 3 y eso es empujarlo. El personal era amable, sin embargo, no es culpa de ellos. La comida fue impactante. Ve a otro lado.

Cenamos aquí como parte de la iniciativa de los gobiernos "Comer fuera para ayudar". Hemos estado visitando al Tío Sam durante los últimos 20 años, pero no desde hace algún tiempo.La señora que nos atendió se sorprendió ya que era la hora pico del almuerzo. Sin embargo, nunca perdió el ritmo, fue fantástica, amable y muy eficiente. Nos sirvieron en 5 minutos para bebidas y 10 minutos para la comida. El lugar estaba limpio con muchas medidas para COVID.Las hamburguesas son las mejores que he probado, la salsa de queso es fantástica. El lugar es ideal para niños con un pequeño tren que gira alrededor del techo.Sinceramente, no me puedo quejar del lugar. Muy impresionado

Visitamos hoy, nuestra primera comida después del cierre. Estaba un poco nervioso ya que era nuestra primera visita a un restaurante desde el cierre, pero me sentí muy seguro. Hemos estado visitando al Tío Sam durante 25 años y el estándar nunca renuncia. La comida era excelente como siempre y el servicio de nuevo tan bueno como siempre.

Sigue siendo el original y el mejor. He estado yendo a esta famosa Institución de Sheffield desde que abrió sus puertas en 1971. Tomé a toda mi familia a lo largo de los años para muchas ocasiones familiares y es amado por todos. Así que tenía muchas ganas de volver después del bloqueo.El servicio y la comida fueron tan buenos como siempre y la atención a la higiene y al distanciamiento aplicada al máximo. Incluso el tren era un distanciamiento social que no tiraba de ningún vagón.

A massive thank you to Nicola and everyone at Uncle Sam's for another wonderful family lunch. We have been coming here since our kids were young and now we are bringing the Grandkids too. It never, ever let's us down and it's so good to be back after such a tough time. Today, the food and service was first class and all at the right price. The perfect go to family burger joint. Can't wait to return, but I promise to get the Grandkids to turn the volume down next time.

Fantastic service. We had booked to go into the restaurant for my partner birthday. Do to the COVID virus we had to cancel. We did however still get the meal takeaway collection. Fantastic food very friendly staff.

Family visit of 12 , age from 69 to 2, we were discussing while there the oldest in the party had been visiting for almost 50 years.Although there had been minor changes several things that had remanined constant, quality of the food, friendless of the staff and atmosphere of the restaurant. One small gripe due to a complaint by someone on Tripadvisor the famous pickle trays had been replaced bt individual card pots. Uurrrgggghhhh! I may start a campaign to " Bring back the Pickle Tray"

Came here with a bunch of mates after finishing uni for celebrations. Always looked full when ive walked past before. Steak was not cooked as required and overall a let down. Had similar quality at wetherspoons for a fraction of the price. Fizzy pop anything but fizzy! Nice staff, shame about the food!

The food at uncle Sam's is always good and we've never had a problem with it but I'm not so sure about the sauce platters they use.. when our mains arrived the waitress grabbed the sauces off of another table and brought it to us but just as we were about to use them a customer came up to us and said he'd put his fingers in the mayo, I asked the waitress for fresh ones and she fetched them across. Then I saw another table double dipping their chips in the ketchup which was then passed on to another table. For me this is a let down and very unhygienic, please just put out fresh sauces every time..

Family lunch over half term the burgers were super and the children's meals were just right. The staff, two ladies, were exceptional. They were very informed about gluten free options ( most of the food) and were particularly lovely to my three grandchildren.

En conclusión, no podría recomendarlo más y es perfecto para todos. ¡Comida increíble! ! ! Una muy buena selección con opciones sin gluten, el personal es cuidadoso y conoce sus cosas cuando se trata de alergias a los alimentos. Decided to have a trip to Uncle Sams for lunch today. We’ve been many times before and weren’t disappointed,you’re always met with a warm welcome. Service was quick even though they had a large party. Food was lovely as usual and is always consistent

Visited as a family for a special occassion for multiple celebrations on a quiet afternoon . Drinks served quick, cant really get bottled soft drinks wrong.

This has always been one of my favourate places to eat. I always have the same...Sam special! It is the amazing cheese on the burgers. From time to time the chips have changed and I have found that strange but the burgers have always been the same to me.

Whilst the interior doesn't appear to have changed in 20 years, the food offering is exactly what it says on the tin. Great place for adults and children alike, with the handmade flame grilled burgers plus trimmings a tasty delight.

Very disappointed on our last visit. No one left an empty plate. Food very average, service average. The place needs an update.

My GF and I came in last night without a booking and the staff couldn’t have been more wonderful. We had a beer at the bar and when a table was available, we went on through to eat.

Been a constant customer for over 30 years and to be fair it was consistent quality for many years but over the last 12 months the food served is at best very average which is a shame. We went on Saturday it wasn’t particularly busy had our usual burgers which were served quickly with all the regular condiments etc, unfortunately the chips could have been cooked for a least another few minutes as they were still pretty raw and the burgers were not very tasty. The staff are always lovely so that was its saving grace but may have to look for another burger place after so many enjoyable years

The issue with this venue is that it advertises itself as an American diner, but the quality of food reminds me of a local burger van. Whilst the dining room is aesthetically pleasing, the food is the polar opposite. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, which is one of my favourite American dishes. What appeared in front of me was pure sadness... dry chewy steak, 3 measly sliced peppers, war time rationed cheese and arriving on big bobs dry bap. I endured the challenge of defeating this unholy abomination, to be greeted by the chips... which were painfully average. To summarise, if you know how perform basic cooking and read online recipes, I will 100% guarantee you will have a more authentic American diner experience for a fraction of the cost. The reason I give this a 2/5 is because the waitress did a grand old job.

I first came to Uncle Sam's over 40 years ago and still great, we love their burgers but the cheese suace is just the best! Please dont change, we love you and your food!!

Used to come here years and years ago and remembered the train that goes around. Found myself on Ecclesall Road and saw it and thought wonder if it is still as good. YES it is, food Lesley and plenty of it, excellent service. Will definitely not leave it as long next time.

Went to Uncle Sams for a early evening Sunday meal great choice and very reasonably priced menu the food is good considering the price though the service from the staff is excellent really friendly and helpful I had the ribs which one was not to my taste I did not complain my wife had a burger which she enjoyed as well as my son and his girlfriend had the burritos which where cooked well -sweets where great atmosphere was lively and the decor was fine when I paid - our waitress noted I’d left some of my mains and told me she had taken the sweets of the bill as I said I didn’t want to mention it so refreshing for the staff to reduce the bill without the customer mentioning that something was not quite right will definitely be returning when we are back visiting my son at uni as we all really enjoyed dining at Uncle Sams well done

I’ve been coming here since a child, coming back to Sheffield with my partner for the weekend and him saying he is craving a burger I knew exactly where to bring him. It is exactly how I remember it, the burgers are so so good

Greasy wings and nachos. No sign of Brioche buns. Thin, dry and burnt burgers. No craft beer offering - Stella and Boddingtons? Come on... Get with the times Uncle Sam's.

Very good burger with plenty of fries and garnish, The service was excellent and the staff friendly.I chose the 8oz Swizz Burger, delicious, and my son chose the Ribs Combo, also very good. Will come again.

We decided to have an end of term treat at Uncle Sams and as always it was spot on for a burger, hot dog and milkshake. We always try to get in at the end of terms but you need to book as this is very popular at that time but well worth it. Go for the Sam burger the cheese sauce is amazing.

Six of us ate there today, the service was good, we couldn’t fault any of the guys who work there........ apart from the chef.

The food was very nice, the cheese sauce on the burger was delicious and the fries were lovely. But the actual restaurant could do with redecorating, and there was a strange small train constantly going around the ceiling which i didn't really understand. But all in all nice food and service was okay. Reasonably priced as well.

First came here in about 1978 when I first started work and loved it. Since then I’ve lived in different places and had forgotten about it. A few months ago we were on Ecclesall Road looking for something for lunch and noticed it was still there and so decided to give it another try.

It must be 30 years since I went here, but I can't imagine why! This is the most wonderful burger place on this planet. I had forgotten why I used to buy sweetcorn relish and suddenly remembered I had first had it at Uncle Sams a long time ago. However my burgers are nothing like Uncle Sams unfortunately. Wonderful service, fabulous atmosphere and outstanding food. Is there anything else you could want. By the way they do anything else on the grill as well but oh, the burgers .......................

Decided to call in at uncle Sam's sunday evening service bit slow in bar area looked as though we were doing them a favour by calling in finally got seated not full but enough in the food was good and tasty but it's not the cheapest place you'll ever eat.... the decor is still the same from years ago time for a revamp I think but will revisit regardless

Visitamos aquí el lunes por la noche. A la llegada no nos acercamos y nos ofrecieron una mesa para que nos pidieran que nos sentáramos. La comida era horrible, la hamburguesa no se servía en un bollo de hamburguesa adecuado y el calzone no se cocinaba bien. El servicio no era el mejor; el personal hablaba de accidentes automovilísticos que habían visto / comido mientras comían. De hecho, están demasiado involucrados en su conversación para vernos de nuevo después de que se sirvió la comida. El restaurante estaba vacío y no había música, creando un ambiente incómodo para comer.

I’ve been going to Uncle Sam’s since 1972 and for 46 years it has not changed. The decor is exactly the same including the little train that rides around above your heads. It is always inviting and takes me right back to my student days. More importantly, the burgers taste exactly the same too and are absolutely delicious with perfectly cooked fries. An all time favourite is the melted cheese sauce burger. The staff are always so welcoming too. An overall excellent experience !

4 adults and a 3 year old. 7 pm for dinner, made to feel very welcome. I love steak but find it difficult to get the quality and also cooked to my taste. I gave them a challenge which they accepted to give me the perfect steak. Wow it was great. We all had different starters, mains and puddings all cooked and served perfectly! Crayons, books for the children to keep them entertained.

Really tasty food for all the family. Quirky restaurant with the mini-railway train trundling around just below the ceiling. Ideal place to go for a birthday if you love burgers as the birthday person (on the day itself) can get a free meal if they have proof of their birthday, as long as they are with another who is buying a meal. Friendly staff, very helpful. Well worth a visit.

I lived in Sheffield as a teenager and used to visit Uncle Sam's for a burger meal with friends and boyfriend(s). Thought it was great then, and can't believe that all these years later it's STILL going strong. Well done. You must have got it right!

What can you say it uncle sams it’s been there all my life and I still enjoy going there it’s all about the cheese source on those burgers. Oh and the train obviously.

I have been visiting uncle sams for around the past 8 years and have never failed to disappoint, I would say I have only had one below average experience which was a few months ago, the burgers have always been fresh and juicy but on this particular occasion it was very dry and tasted like it was cooked the day before, but this won’t put us off. On the whole a good friendly restaurant

We popped in for an early tea and was not disappointed, the place was busy when we got there but we were shown to a table quite quickly. we had. cheese burgers and have to say they were great very filling. the service was good and even though it was busy we did not get rushed to leave so somebody else could have our table. Would go again

Located on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield's busiest thoroughfare for independent shops and restaurants (just off the city centre) Uncle Sam's was probably the first American style diner iin Sheffield when it opened more than 40 years ago. Times have changed but Uncle Sam's hasn't lost its original ethos of serving good quality food at moderate prices. The American railroad track round the ceiling is still mesmeric..

I love it here, everyone has a smile, they're always pleased to see you, the food is very tasty and filling and the portions are quite large, the restaurant, kitchen, bar area and toilets are clean and the service is 2nd to none, it's been going since 1971 and outlasted every other restaurant on Ecclesall Road which speaks volumes about what they do being tried and tested, highly recommended !!!

I probably 1st visited Uncle Sams about 35 years ago. I'm pleased to tell you that it hasn't changed much. They still do the fab burgers with the runny cheese. Do let it go the way of Yankees, support your local businesses & not the chains.

Have been dining here for about 35 years that's how good it is ! We had 2 sams specials and 1 Hawaiian burger all brilliant as ever with the amazing cheese sauce . Will be back

Faultless! Welcoming staff, pleasant surroundings, good food. Never fail to enjoy a lunch here. The burgers ( choice of 1/4 or 1/2lb) are delicious, the buns are real bread buns rather than the much hyped brioche. Chips are crispy, hot and supplied in generous portions along with an attractive relish tray. This place sells itself on being an American food restaurant and, certainly, they are what it says on the tin!

I haven’t been to Uncle Sam’s for quite a few years and I was happy that the food is still as good as it always has been. Great service and value for money. I will be back soon.

Well it has been a while, but a trip to Uncle Sam's was well worth it for a fabulous Hawaiian Burger with pineapple and a rich cheese sauce over a perfectly cooked burger. The train still travels its track, but the pictures of Bruce Springsteen have gone....so sad but I will get over it. The service is swift and friendly......and why I haven't been in 10 years or so is a mystery.

We came here for a friend’s birthday and were very disappointed. We arrived knowing that you couldn’t reserve a table but there was over half an hour wait with no space in the bar area so we went elsewhere for a drink and then returned....

Went to Uncle Sams to celebrate my Daughters Engagement.

First time I visited this Sheffield high spot was in 1987. Nothings changed, except the prices and they're still very reasonable. The menu, great food and lovely staff. A reassuring and happy feeling each time we can squeeze in one of our rare visits these days. This is everything you want from fun food. The neverending railway chugs round the dining room whilst you enjoy the quick service bringing you the most delicious cheeseburger and fries followed by the best self indulgent hot chocolate fudge cake and vanilla ice cream. Uncle Sams can't be beaten and I hope it doesn't close in my lifetime.

Okay, so this palce might not be the fanciest of places like TGIs or any big franchised American diners etc. But if you simply want a quiet night out with a good burger and a Coke this is the place to be.

The cheese sauce is to die for. The waiting staff are always extremely friendly and happy to help. Cute little restaurant with some unique touches, like the train!

My husband & I haven't been to this place in many years. So glad we did. It hasn't changed at all apart from the onion and cucumber relish they used to have. That was my husbands favourite relish. The food is very good and the staff are all very friendly and polite. We will be back.

Been here loads of times in the past not been for about 3 years but called in now twice in the last month as it takes me back to really my childhood ,train track above your head decor still the same and to top it of bloody amazing food plenty to eat even if your greedy you get loads , the owner is often serving and she’s so sweet and grateful for your custom and very humble , if your fancying an American night out meal burgers,fries,wings blue cheese sauce etc this is the place to go you won’t be disappointed.

Being loyal to Yankees as a family since it opened we were so sad that it closed especially since we all live away from Sheffield now but after trying uncle sams we are now happy to keep on visiting staff are great burgers fantastic my only complaint was the fries aren’t as good as they should be

Uncle Sam's is a great family owned local restaurant. The food is quality and good value. The service is frienfly and attentive and feels like they want you to come back again. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed and will likely be back again. Enjoy!

On and off I have been eating at Uncle Sam's for over 40 years....still going strong and still as great as ever.

My 1st time at Uncle Sam's... heard so much about it. The food was amazing I had one of the nicest burritos I've ever had! The strawberry Milkshake was delicious! The atmosphere was great and loved the little train! Only small issue is it feel quite cramped as the tables are very close together, I appreciate they cannot do anything about space. Amazing will defienetly be going back!

Paid a visit to Uncle sams on Monday 16th October. I used to go here regularly with mates (at the end of afternoon drinking sessions) but this time went with partner and our baby. The food was as good as it always was. Great burgers and generous portion size. The waitress was fantastic (despite her having to deal with an extremely rude customer) and the manager was equally as friendly. Well worth a visit.

The food was really poor. The onion rings tasted nothing like onion rings and tasted off so we didn't eat them. The burgers disappointed and a chicken burger was left due to poor taste. Never again, something wasn't right.

Food was great as always but writing this review for the service! We'd phoned to book for 10 but were told we couldn't be accommodated together but we could be split over 2 tables. We pitched up and a lovely waitress called Bex single handedly re-arranged all the tables in the front of the restaurant to create a great table in the window for all 10 of us. She was totally lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Big up Bex!

I've been going to Uncle Sam's for over 40 years and in that time it hasn't changed at all, it's always friendly, the service is really good, it's great value, and the food is always exactly what I expect. They do the best cheese sauce I've ever had! Keep it up!

Absolutely amazing. Took me back to my childhood and food was just as good. Really enjoyed it . Haven't been on ecclesall road for a while but it was great to see one of the best american restaurants in the city still doing it's thing. AWESOME

If there's a better burger in Sheffield l'd like to know where. Uncle Sams special really hits the spot with the lovely cheese sauce and extra sides.

We have eaten here many times as a couple and as a family and have never been disappointed. The burgers are home made, so tasty, salad is fresh, as are the fries which are to die for with the cheese sauce! Can definitely recommend the Uncle Sam's special burger with bacon and cheese sauce but it is a large portion and i have not quite managed to finish one yet! The nachos are great as a starter to share and love the onion rings and ribs too. The service is good, quick and friendly, lovely girls waiting on and serving. Be sure to take a tub of cheese sauce home to eat with chips! Divine

I keep going back here and the burgers are rock solid straight to the point goodness. High quality beef and plentiful at a very honest price. The add-ons are sent directly from Heaven, yes I’m talking about the Chili and the unique ultra tasty cheese sauce. There’s lots of choices you’d expect from this style of diner but I have to be honest I can’t move on from the burgers. Go big. Service great. Friendly staff. Good value. No more to be said shut up and eat. :)

Ate here last Sunday night, I got a burger and my partner a hot dog. Food was awful, will go as far to say one of the worst meals I have ever eaten in a restaurant. It actually angered me to spend money on it. My burger and chips were slopped on a plate, no garnish, no salad in the burger, nothing, the meet patty was like cardboard, as thin as it too and looked as though it had been boiled. The onion rings we ordered were frozen and actually made me gag a bit. Service was awful too, when we asked for the check we were waiting nearly 20 minutes for someone to come back and take our payment. There is Wetherspoons across the road and we were sorry we just didn’t eat there. Food would have at least been to a standard and cost less! I really cannot stress enough how terrible the food was.

Just been hear for my grandsons birthday the staff are so welcoming and friendly they couldn't do enough for us, the food is exceptional will definitely be visiting this place again thank you

Used to go to Uncle Sam's as a kid 25 years ago. Today it's still the same with the best burgers I've ever had in this country. This place is our guilty pleasure late on a Saturday or Sunday night after a busy weekend! The waitresses are always friendly and you can tell it's a proper family-run establishment as they really do care about the customers and the service they offer. I am still mesmerised watching the little train go round and round too!!

This place was fun and good in the 80's but has been overtaken by literally all the other culinary establishments in this fine city. The first thing you see in the open kitchen is a microwave. The nachos were not nachos, very greasy and covered in tasteless cheese. The chicken wings were also very greasy. The prices are very reasonable but the food reflects the years that those were the prices of these dishes. Our burger was gristly and tasted like a burger van burger, the bun was also just as basic and cheap looking and tasting. It was also completely smothered in cheese sauce. The beef in the burrito was so finely ground and did not taste of beef. The service was friendly and efficient, but the food did not sit well in my stomach afterwards, it did not taste like quality ingredients. The whole place seems to be resting on its past successes and not moving with the times. Places like Smoke, Reds True BBQ and Lucky Fox are providing the American Experience so much better now I'm sorry to say.

we arrived at 7;30 and our table was waiting for us. The staff were polite and very quick with anything we wanted. Our order was taken and the food arrived very quickly. The burger with the cheese sauce was amazing, obviously it goes everywhere...but who cares. Two of our party had milkshakes and both commented on how amazing they were, (chocolate butterscotch) We all had dessert which was amazing.Also the bill was great compared to other places.We will be back.

We don't visit as often as we used to, but it is always an enjoyable experience. We had a cheeseburger, a Triple Whammy and the chilli chicken breast. Great food, great service and we always leave saying "why has it been so long since we last visited".

Every time it's someone's birthday we always go to Uncle Sam's to celebrate! The food is amazing, they have the best burgers in Sheffield! It is American Diner style too which is quite fitting! I think there's a box of children's books (at least there used to be) to keep them entertained whilst waiting for food. The desserts here are the best too- you won't find a nicer chocolate fudge cake! The only fault is that the portion sizes are huge so you shouldn't eat anything before you go! Definitely check this place out ASAP!!!
