Uncle Sams in Brighton and Hove

Ordered blue cheese burger and fries + additional fries + 2 milkshakes tonight. Drove a mile home and found fries were stone cold and soggy and burger was luke warm. Called store to complained and male said he saw fries being cooked so could not understand why they were cold. I suggested they weren't fresh and he argued the point. Absolutely no customer apology and/or offer to give good customer service. Uncle Sam's have been going since the first shop opened, in Montpelier Road, Brighton in 1971 and we have supported the brand ever since but after tonight's offering perhaps it time for a change? ............

The burger bun was all soggy like it had been soaked in water, and was absolutely swimming in mayonnaise. Disgusting mess, yuk.

Ordered from here a week ago our food was nice till i ordered my daughter a vegetarian burger to be horrified they cook there vegetarian food in the same fryer they cook there chicken!

I personally think for Uber delivery you should stick a sticker on the bag to seal it rather then just popping it in a paper bags that is open. It would keep it warmer and peace of mind for tampering

So unhygienic!!! Ended up asking for a refund before we even had our food. The woman (supervisor) making/packing our food was eating/wiping her mouth and it was just filthy in general. Staff looked miserable and had a negative engery. Now I know Uncle Sam's isn't a 5 star restaurant/take away but still basic hygiene is needed!!!!

I ordered a double cheeseburger & large fries, to be delivered via deliveroo. Food arrived stone cold & 'large' fries was really small and not proper chips, just tiny pieces of fries. Don't waste your money here. I could see from the deliveroo tracker that the food had been handed to the deliveroo rider, who sat outside the shop for 20 mins. I asked the rider about the delay, and they said the shop had told them to wait. Looks like they are making customers wait so that they can give the riders multiple orders. Who cares if the food arrives cold! Terrible quality which was inedible so binned straightaway.

Cold hard chips cold soggy burger only decent thing was the milkshake,always busy but seem to be struggling with customers and deliveries maybe need to cut back standards have dropped have got more expensive but quality has gone down.Won’t be going back.

What's happening with uncle Sam's? Used to be the best place but now the burgers are thin (both the chicken and beef) and stuffed with LOADS of lettuce.... big disappointment Now more expensive for less.

Standard Uncle Sams (which is a good thing!) Good fries. Good onion rings. Good double cheeseburger. Good serving time. Good price : about £9 for the lot when done as a meal offer I tend to go in to the location to order and collect as the online ordering apps don't allow the removal of burger ingredients, only the addition of things - which is a bit annoying. But it means I get some much-needer step-count to offset the burger and fries. This is my usual burger source.

Haven't been here for a while. Food was OK but what do they do to their drinks, fizzy orange was napalm dayglow orange and didn't taste of anything but fruity sugar.

It does great, meaty, good sized burgers. With plenty of salad trimmings to make it healthy! Quick service from friendly staff.

Ordered food through the deliveroo app, chips arrived cold and we got food poisoning from the burger and nuggets - would not order ever again 😠

Great food and friendly staff although emphasis seems to have been placed on deliveries. Store is usually presentable although there were a number of delivery riders hanging around making the it look a bit crowded and uninviting(especially with Covid19 still being a factor to consider).

Can't beat an uncle Sam's chili burger !

I understand they are franchise's but dont understand how Hangleton's Uncle Sam's food is so much worse than the Shoreham equivalent. The 'large' chips definitely weren't large and were very underdone however the onion rings were overcooked. The burger however was the same good quality we get at Shoreham. The Shoreham branch isn't on JustEat so we thought we'd give the Hangleton one ago but we probably won't bother again.

Closes at 20:00. Not 21:00 as suggested by Google. Verified today, shut. There is football today so may be the case where the staff do what they want? Dropped by a number of times. Only a quick nip in and out for a Milkshake. Always helpful and polite. Sunday around 5:30pm was the busiest with a queue. Normally can nip in and out. Free parking outside if there is space. Ground floor, disabled entrance no problem.

It used to be better messed up a couple of times not sure if that's because of the staff or whether it's the fact they're so busy what with them doing deliveries now and it all gets to much but I'll be giving another branch ago next time

Food is always cooked to order. Fresh and delicious. Lots of choice and pretty good value for money. Seating is limited (although due to covid, it's takeaway ). Face masks are obviously required when entering the shop! Staff are always friendly and helpful here. Never had an issue with incorrect orders. Shakes are delicious too. I would highly recommend Uncle Sams!

Love there food and chilli sauce

Me and my friend went to collect our meals from this branch earlier today, where me and my friend encountered a very rude member of staff. She is blonde and middle aged and was discriminating against my friend who is exempt from wearing a mask due to a non visible reason, she was told that she had to wait outside by herself in 1 degree Celsius weather whilst they allowed others to wait inside even though one of the other staff members weren’t even wearing their mask properly but she singled out my vulnerable friend. The whole order process was very uncomfortable and was made to feel like we were bothering her because we wanted to place an order.

I cannot explain how much I've been craving a burger... I haven't had one in months, and quite understandably, considering current global affairs. However, today I decided that I just can't take it anymore & that home-made burgers just aren’t going to cut it. I have never purchased an Uncle Sam’s meal from this particular establishment (Hove Grenadier), although where I have visited the food has been delicious. Considering I've never been to this restaurant before; I completely understand that my experience is from my standpoint alone & that there is expected variance in my visit, and ultimately my opinion is bias. That being said, I'm going to relay my experience: Upon arriving, I didn't wait long before making my order and the staff member who took it was kind & polite. Now, where the first issue arose was while waiting for my meal to be prepared - as I watched one of the members of staff who were crafting the burgers. I’ve worked in kitchens, they get hot - you sweat. Having staff who you can see preparing food while profusely dripping with sweat is more than understandable. What isn't understandable, is having said members of staff preparing burgers with their bare hands while profusely sweating, and having women working with no hairnets, considering we are going through a national crisis with COVID-19. While I watched one of the members of staff holding up a burger bun with their bare hands, spreading sauce, adding lettuce, tomato, placing the burgers into bags etc. I instantaneously began to very much regret my choice to get fast food... As you can imagine, while watching the preparation of my meal, I very much considered intervening - and maybe I should of looking back at it, however, at the time I decided that I didn't want to seem rude and cause a scene. My meal was cooked promptly; overall, I waited around 5 minutes and the member of staff who gave it to me was polite. The drive from Hove Grenadier to my home takes around 3-4 minutes. Being really hungry, once parked I chose to eat a couple of 'sneaky' chips before getting indoors... the chips were cold. Not too much bother I thought to myself, It's the burger I'm craving & cold chips I can handle. Soon enough I was indoors and set up to eat dinner; the second I held the burger I knew it was going to be freezing cold. I took the first bite and it was exactly that, colder than the chips. I also purchased a portion of onion rings, these happened to be piping hot & the only somewhat enjoyable inclusion of the meal. After heating up my cold & hastily conjured burger, and ultimately creating a soggy, unpalatable mess; Halfway through eating the burger, I pull out a hair from my mouth, the same coloured black hair from the member of staff who I witnessed preparing the burgers today. Around an hour after I put the half-eaten burger and chips into the bin, I start to get severe abdominal pain, then swiftly after that I was put into the toilet. No further detail is needed regarding that, other than it was an extremely unpleasant experience. In conclusion, my entire experience was extremely displeasing, and in hindsight the appalling level of food hygiene in relation to the global pandemic is distressing to say the least. I'll be keeping a close eye on myself for next 14 days. Thank you. 23/5/2020

Have been regularly visiting the Uncle Sams in Hangleton, Hove for many years - ever since it first opened. I have had many good meals from there and have found it to be particularly tasty recently. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Not the most exciting place to go to, but my god it's the best burger you'll ever have. Like Burger King, but a thousand times better!

Stopped off during a recent visit to Brighton. Food was lovely, but cup of tea was only warm and certainly wasn't service with a smile. Also, had to pay 20p for small tub of ketchup. I mean 20p, really?? It's not the money it's the principle , when they give it free in Macdonalds and KFC surely this should be free here too? That said, I would recommend on the basis that the food was good and cooked fresh.

Only went for fries. Pretty standard frozen. Shop needs a make over. Felt dirty but cannot properly judge the hygiene.

A chicken wrap is not a wrap it's a mockery the chips are well not great onion rings are good how ever the only reason in marking this down even tho there small and over priced for what you get I think the milkshakes are amazing definitely won't be getting food from there again but the milkshakes is the only reason I'll go back

Uncle sams makes the best burgers in my opinion. If you like spicy chilli then the Double Chilli Cheeseburger is the one for you as Uncle Sams chilli is unique to the franchise and delicious (spoil yourself with added bacon)

Love their burgers they use red onion in a salad makes it taste nice. Support your local companies

Great food! The staff are friendly and helpful. The price is a bit more than a McDonald's but less than a restaurant so if you want good food for a good price this is the place!

Always good service and the food is fresh and tasty.

Staff were amazing, I like the menu, burgers have to be some of the best around for a fast food place. Would have been 5 stars but finding that the prices are just a little too much for their position in the market, eg. bacon double cheese burger meal is not far off the price of some sit down gourmet joints. However that being said, you never get less than 100% satisfaction with the food.

Went to have a burger and chips at lunch time. Very greasy and tasteless. We are in and found the restaurant to be filthy. The table on top was cleaned for us put the legs underneath were appalling as well as the floor and walls. Everything was dirty. I would hate to see what the conditions are like in the cooking area. Will never go there again.

Delicious Humburgers and wraps, suitable for people with all type of needs, cheap great quality and quantity of food. Really recommend you check this restaurant out, and hope you have an amazing delicious meal for lunch from Uncle Sams. :D

Bought a burger and fries for lunch and ended up throwing away the fries as soggy. Burger tepid at best Put the bag in my car with luck on the floor as when i picked up the bag all the grease had soaked through into the mat . When I tried the chips they were just fat where obviously they had been put in cooking oil that was not heated properly and had been absorbed into the chips .Did'nt have time to return as on lunch break so emailed the main office but didn't bother responding POOR customer service to many other places to eat in Brighton & Hove to return .

Uncle Sams is hands-down the best burger in Brighton and all the branches are pretty similar.

Ordered four burger meals. The burgers were clearly just thrown together and squashed almost flat to get them into the bag. The chips were rock hard and cold, like little twigs. Obviously didn't discover this until we'd got home, so hardly worth returning to complain. Very much doubt that the three teenagers serving would have cared less anyway. Will never go back. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
