Uncle Joe's Fish and Chips in Leeds

Went for my lunch yesterday while at work, had small fish and chips, fish bite size (literally) and not proper chippy chips. Very expensive too!

Didn’t know this place has been taken over…. This was clear when entering the shop just by looking at the food ovens. Changed our minds and chose not to order fish as they looked thin, curled up like overcooked . Opted for chips with curry sauce. Chips were refried more than once b the taste. Certainly won’t go back. Such a shame as it was the best chippy for miles.

Lovely traditional fish and chip shop. I have made a point of coming here whenever I'm in Otley. The food is cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. I honestly don't think you'll find a better chippy!

Called in at dinner time today, I got a fish with scraps the wife a scallop butty of which she got two scallops nice touch of a few extra chips will call again.

All seemed rather dysfunctional. The fryer didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing after being advised several times. He may be new I don't know but I don't think it's good for business the lack of confidence. The food... wouldn't rate it at all. The chips tasted stale The burger was vile! The cheapest meat clearly used but also no salad served on the burger which is very strange. It's clearly MRM used for the burgers as I found a bone in a mouthful of it very disappointed to say the least. Won't be returning

Fabulous fish and chips. Friendly service. Freshly cooked fish, really good chips. We sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed our food.

Food is always 10/10. Staff are welcoming as well. Best fish and chips in Otley by far.

Absolutely disgusting... Greasy and poor quality. Expensive for the portion sizes. Spam fritters are now almost see through. Prices are extortionate for what you get. Worste we've had.

The staff were pleasant BUT the Fish batter and the Chips were truly the worst I have ever had !!! Soggy and greasy, dripping in fat, not a pretty sight. Inedible apart from picking some Fish out of the Batter and binning the rest...! 1 Star 🌟 is 1 too many.

We call every Thursday we always get a lovely welcome the staff are always happy to see us the fish and chips are cooked whilst we wait and taste lovely hence we go back every week .

Food was lovely. Good value. Atmosphere marked low as was in there minutes so hard to grade. Will definitely use again.

Always friendly staff. Food Always great prices reasonable they cook fish and chips traditionally non of this whitening stuff. i recommend people try the pea fritters. They are so moreish my father will only have fish and chips from here .fish also white and batter spot on.we travel from the other side of Leeds a 1 hour round trip. Food Always cooked fresh and therefore hot .mum loves the curry sauce. we have never had a bad experience at this establishment hence five stars. Keep up the good work........see you soon 😎👍

Just went in for a bag of chips £2.50 for a small tray of overcooked small scraggy looking chips. Disappointed to say the least

Uncle Joe's. Rather curiously they had two signs in the window. One said: 'PAYMENT by CASH ONLY' the other sign said 'CASH or Bankcard accepted', I asked the lady taking the orders for food behind the counter what these two differing signs meant, and she said ' You can use your bankcard but it's CASH Only' After 2 or 3 minutes of this surreal conversation, and being unable to get any sense out of the lady, I told her that I still didn't understand, so I asked her again, 'Is it CASH ONLY or do you accept bankcards? It can't be both', I said. The lady replied, with a huge grin on her face: 'It's whatever you want it to be!' This lady and the person who was frying the fish and standing next to her then burst into very loud, sustained, high-pitched and hysterical fits of laughter, at my confusion. Needless to say I didn't hang around, but went somewhere else to buy my dinner. Uncle Joe has clearly lost his marbles.

Stumbled across this little place. Popped in for a spam and pea fritter and got some lovely complimentary chipsies on the side. Will definitely be our go to in Otley

The shop was very busy and fish was made to order, it was one of the best traditional Fish and chips I have had in a long time, £6..50 for fish bites and chips- adult portion, tasty crispy batter and fresh chips. The portion size was small but that may be just what I had ordered, ordered mushy peas, gravey and Curry sauce all.which were delicious, nice seating area to eat outside, downside - I wanted a second helping

Tried this today as 1 off as we normally go to The Maypole but its shut on Monday , what a big mistake that was, my fish as well as the batter were so full of oil that it was seeping through the paper by the time i got home,( less than a mile away) when i unwrapped them it was completely steeped in oil right through the soggy grey horrible small cut of fish as well as the soggy disgusting batter and at this price none of my family or friends will be using Uncle Joes chip shop again, absolutely disgusting even at half the price, avoid this place like the plague, its expensive, disgusting robbery and the staff are as rude as it gets , YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR THE MAYPOLE ON TUESDAY, WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY !

Best fish and chip shop for miles around. Chips always well done, properly cooked not like some that leave them pale and bland. Spam fritters are fab. Staff always friendly. Only slight downside is cash only, but cash machine in Sainsbury's next door.

Well what could we say about this place all you have to do is try there fish and chips they are delishers cook to perfection and staff do help full , Would never go anywhere else put uncle Joe's fish shop otley.2023 now what's going on, the fish is been cooked on one side that side the batter is hard and it makes the fish dry. Go back to the old way please

We've been quite a few times over the years & they're always good 😋 We went today, & honestly, I reckon I can say, they were 'BY FAR' the best chish & fips I've had in donkeys years ❤️ The fish was lovely & firm, the batter was golden & not greasy, the scraps were light, crunchy, the chips were beautiful & golden & it was all perfectly cooked & not much grease, then to top it off .... 👀 I spotted a sign for 'PEA FRITTERS' 🙉 Mushy peas, shaped into a burger, dipped in batter & deep fried.. WHAAAAT.... 🙆 So simple, 2 in a portion, & honestly 👌 My advice, u must try them 💚😘💚 Wish I'd have taken a photo 🤷 , I can't recommend Uncle Joe's highly enough *****

.soggy batter small child size portions and a 25% price hike. fish bites meal deal has gone from £6:00 to £7:50 in a week. The portions have got smaller and the quality has gone downhill. Called tonight for tea and bought a fish bites meal and a scampi meal. The scampi was all crumb ,only 7 small pieces, and no filling with a very small chips, which cost £6:50. When I rang the manager to say how disappointing we were she said they are the same as always, which i told her was not true as we have been customers there for 10 years. I told her the chips were a pittance and she said it was because they were well done but we always get them well done and never been like this. When asked about the extortionate increase i was told its only 10% which is incorrect as it is 25% more. was offered a replacement of one of the meals when we return ,but i said we wouldn't be returning to waste more money. The manager then put an assistant on to talk to me and she agreed with me and also said the staff have been told to put less in the meal. So this means they have got 25% less food for an increase of 25%. Maybe this is why when we drove around the corner there was a queue at the other fish shop and no customers in here .

Come here on a weekly basis over 10 mile drive to it cause its the best chippy in yorkshire used to be 2 years ago Now a days is the complete opposite to how it was pale chips over greased mucky place

Simply the best. I happily travel 8 miles to enjoy perfectly cooked fish. the lightest batter and piping hot chips that taste as they did when I was a lad. Given that my youth was spent in Whitby and my home of the last 50 years has been in the city where Harry Ramsden battered his haddock, I think that I am qualified to comment.

The facade, food-boxes and location are all wonderful, but my chips were overdone and I got just seven bits of scampi (at the one on Haworth that I visit I get twelve and the cost is virtually the same!). An improvement is required and not so much food rationing please.

Well tried this fish & chip shop for the second time ,Hoping it might of got better big mistake still as bad if not worse fish not cooked properly and chips greasy . And why is it you can't even taste the vinegar or the salt and I like a lot on very poor.

Beautiful fish and chips. Perfectly fresh fish and the chips are amazing. There was a queue but very well organised and we were soon at the counter placing our order.

Had a really nice lunch with my Wife and Son. Sitting out on the benches in front of the shop. The food was really tasty too.

I have ordered from here on a couple of occasions via Uber Eats. The first time I ordered the delivery time forecast seemed reasonable but as it got nearer to the time it was due, it kept moving further away. I just sat there merrily watching the time get further and further away as the minutes passed. First time it took 2 hours to be delivered and contact was not showing as having been established with the "delivery partner" until shortly before the "latest arrival" time. For the rest of the time it was showing as "preparing your order" so one would assume there is an awful lot of love and skill that goes into frying those fish and chips for them to take that long to prepare. I gave the benefit of the doubt and decided to give them a second try (in case the first try was just an isolated incident) - this time I watched the timer tick up to two hours and then...... they cancelled my order. The orders were done on different days too in order to make sure that the choice of day was not the issue. I also only live about a mile from the place so distance is not the issue either (in fact I only ordered delivery as I was having a meeting heavy day and couldn't get out to pickup lunch from anywhere). But "how are the fish and chips when they eventually arrive?" I hear you ask - well, average at best, certainly NOT worth a two hour wait and there will not be a third attempt at ordering from here. So, a word of advice....if you do still order from here via uber eats, you should completely ignore the "estimated arrival" time. I think it has been put on there as some kind of ironic joke. If you are lucky, your food will hopefully arrive by the "latest arrival" time. Alternatively you could drive to the coast, rent a fishing boat, catch the fish yourself, fillet it then batter it, buy some potatoes, fry them all and not only will you eat at around the same time as you would have if you had ordered from here via uber eats, but you will also have had a nice day out at the seaside too.

My first visit in over two years. New management and new staff, as previous reviewers have mentioned. They are obviously struggling to get to grips with the business, but the mini fillets and chips that I bought were excellent and that's what matters. Good price £4.50 and pleasently different from my local chippy. Unusually they are a cash only business, in contrast to the cashless contactless society we are moving to.

Oh my goodness, I don't believe that, I rarely eat fish and chips, but this place made me addicted to come twice a week. Every thing fresh and tasty . It is super hygienic and very clean. Customer service is brilliant, I highly recommend every one to try this place.

A change in ownership has brought disastrous results. Cheaper and smaller cuts of fish, solid chips - and a couldn't care less attitude from the new owners. They may do OK during the summer, but will not do well when the locals are the only folk around in winter. They need to change their ways or move on.

Apparently new owners Chips pale, soggy , taste-less and greasy. Fish poor quality artificial tasting batter and a bitter fishy ater taste, Have gone from some of the best to the worst fish and chips ever tasted. Needless to say will not call again on any return visits, Woild like to know if previous owners have setup somewhere else , they rerally knew how to do fish and chips.

Visited here today, ordered fish and chips twice asked for the fish cooking well done (crispy batter) got them home the chips were inedible rock hard and anemic and the fish well it didn't have much batter on it so it definatley wasn't well done....

I've just been looking at some of the reviews and I have to say I tried this company a couple of months ago and have been back since a couple of times. I think it's one of the best I have ever had. The chips are just perfect a also the fish - I can highly recommend.

Me and hubby are regulars but the new fish fryer is useless. He always gets specials,so I thought I would have same for a change. Never will I get fish and chips from here again,unless the lovely guy called Kirk is behind the counter and frying the fish.He is fantastic and always cooks everything perfect.What a shame. Sorry about having to leave poor review,but the owner needs to accept defeat that the new fryer he employed, and still insists on keeping despite the damage being caused to his business. HE CANNOT COOK FISH. SIMPLE AS THAT.

Excellent tasting fish, well cooked and hot, only criticism is too many small chip bits, but very tasty none the less, definitely one of the better tasting fish i have ever had.

Awful. Chips burned on outside, not cooked inside. Fish was horrible, again not cooked nice. Everything were soaking in oil. Shop do not accept card, cash only. More reason to avoid. Visited 1st time and definitely a last one.

Without a doubt these are the best fish and chips anyone could wish for. Perfectly fries fish and the chips are amazing. Mushy peas to die for. It may sound all embellished but believe me they are worth a taste. You won't bother with the wetherby whaler and their prices ever again.
