Staff drunk and very rude, food below par, asked for my dish with no mushrooms, dish came with mushrooms, mentioned to waiter, or huffed and puffed and took dish away, brought it back and it was now cold, gave it back and had fresh one made, that came with mushrooms, for a very small place, and 3 staff on the evening, how can they make this so wrong??

I'm just leaving this place and it was shocking service and horrible food . Staff very rude...soup very salty, fish cake like a chewing gum with burned breadcrumbs... no taste of fish at all... when I approached staff and explain politely the issue he came back and in the front of other people said.."well sorry for that but we have checked now and there is nothing wrong with our fishcake " and offered alternative meal. Due to the fact that his body language was terrible I have thanked for alternative meal. Waited 15 mins to pay a bill and finally not well mannered waiter came with full bill to pay with no apology at all. I can believe this is happening in the middle of west end in Glasgow... no peoples skills at all...

Had bought a groupon voucher for this place. When we arrived the place was busy. Despite booking by phone they had no record of having a booking. Perhaps this was groupon.coms fault.? Not sure. Extremely disappointing attitude from the staff, basically told to go away. Having been here twice before I can say the food is ok but made to feel very unwelcome tonight . No effort at all to accommodate. Won't be back. Don't take the groupon deal!! Disapiinted

I took advantage of a groupon deal for 4. I had arranged to attend today but on arrival it would appear I didn't complete the booking properly and only had the voucher code and barcode. The staff member did eventually contact his manager and they honoured my booking. One of the group had read the previous reviews and to be honest I was preparing myself for a plate of plain pasta. How wrong were we? The choices from the menus were varied .....not only that but the tasty servings were ample and satisfied our hunger pangs. Just a big thank you to the staff especially the chap who arrended and looked after us...the bus pass babes. We will be back.

I bought a voucher from Itison to try out this resteraunt and my experience would deter me from using one of these vouchers EVER agin! It was a Sunday afternoon. To start with {no fault of the resteraunt) it took os 20 minutes to get parked on or near Byres Rd, as a result were 10 minutes late for our booking. We were greeted with the waiter at the bottom of the stairs to the resteraunt, informing us that we wee late! We were taken to a small table at the end of the resteraunt and "loudly asked for our VOUCHER!We both ordered a starter, we know this was extra and not incuded in the voucher price. The starter was delivered promptly, watery, overpriced minestrone soup. We then sat for 40 minutes waiting for our main dishes, During this time other diners, who were seated only after we had finished our starter, had been served both their starters and main dishes. At this point I wanted to just leave but my partner encouraged me to stay. The main meal was more emjoyable than the starter, but the whole experience and service was unpleasant. On leaving the resteraunt, at the bottom of the stairs, a very pleasant woman approached me approached and said 'you don't look very happy' I explained that she was right and during the course of the conversation I realised she was staff maybe manager! She went on to explain 'these people who book with vouchers usually.......... and asked me to please return'. I was appalled!I thought restaurants who offer deals on vouchers etc, intended to use the opportunity to promote the resteraunt, otherwise it becomes a lose lose situation for everyone.

Food is being done cheaply, very cheaply. The mozzarella carrozza wasn't made with mozzarella. Cheese was yellow and tasted more like cheddar. The strips of beef were defiantly not fillet as advertised, they were not strips and were grossly outnumbered by the mushrooms. The potatoes with my main course were supposed to be roasted but came boiled. When I queried this I was told that they were roasted despite clearly being boiled. My main course, the Pollo Valdostana was supposed to be chicken filled with mozzarella, Parma ham and basil. What came was a chicken breast butterflied, with some kind of cheese melted on top with a slice of thick non-Parma ham on top. No wonder this place was empty at 8:30 in the evening. I wish we had turned around and left when there was only one other table taken.

I am extremely disappointed in this restaurant firstly I bought this as a Christmas gift for my family and they couldn't book it themselves and I had to do and then when they got there last night they where told they didn't not have a reservation so embarrassed she had to call me to forward on the confirmation email which I think is a total disgrace so I complained about the poor customer service they received only to be told the problem is with groupon not the restaurant this is laughable take responsibility for your own rude staff.

We happened to find this place while wandering down the alleyway of trendy University bars. We didn't have a booking but we were greeted warmly and shown to a table. The restaurant is very tiny, it only seats about 20 people, so we felt lucky to get a table. The décor is whimsical and the atmosphere is lively, with the host - who is also the sole server - chatting boisterously with everyone. We started with the gamborini inferno (hot chili shrimp) which is one of the best things I've ever had. My partner loved his chicken parmigiana, while my vegetarian lasagne was a disappointment (I would go for a meat dish next time instead). The wine was good and the prices were very reasonable. You sit very close to other diners, but since everyone seems to be having a good time, it makes for a fun and convivial evening.

It was lunchtime do maybe that's a little too critical. Staff friendly and no issues. Only thing worth noting is that if you book through 5pm it may not mean you have table reserved. My wife and myself visit here on Friday 13th (very apt) Jan using a Groupon voucher that we received as a Xmas present. We have visited this establishment many times previously, hence the gift, and have never had a bad word to say about the food or service. On arrival we were presented with a "Groupon Menu" which can best be described as "Vegetarian unfriendly" (my wife being a Vegetarian) but on request we were told that she could have her normal order of Vegetarian Lasagne. (big mistake)The "Lasagne" turned out to be a plate of melted cheese with very little to no vegetables and NO layers of pasta. When the waiter came to clear the table he asked how our meal was and wasn't too please when my wife gave a truthful answer, which should have been obvious due to the fact the plate was hardly touched. He then spoke to the "chef" who informed us that this is the same Vegetable Lasagne as always ? I can only assume this is a different "chef" as to the one previously employed at this establishment as I have also sampled the Vegetarian Lasagne before due tasting my wife's meal and finding it so nice I've ordered it myself (Carnivore) Someone needs to let the "Chef" know that Lasagne is a dish with layers of pasta and not just cheese and sauce and the owner, who was not on site before we left, needs to know that if this type of customer service and quality of food continues he will not have many returning customers. As previously stated we have visited here fairly regularly due to the quality of food and excellent service but will be having serious doubts about returning again.

We took friends over from Greece to this place recently . The waiter's behaviour was appalling . Firstly, he made jokes about Greek people not paying taxes . Then, when we asked for one of the dishes, Stroganoff , to be served with potatoes rather than rice It was served with rice and 2 tiny roast potatoes that looked as though they had been left over from the Christmas lunch menu . Also, a very drunk couple appeared in the restaurant , not to eat, but simply to say hello to the waiter. They sat down and started shouting over to other customers and being generally disruptive. The waiter did nothing to calm them down. This was a very negative experience for us on what should have been a pleasant farewell dinner for our Greek friends. The food and drink was also very overpriced for what we received.

Service was good, waiters nice - although not great to see 2 of the waiters sharing a bottle beer at the till area ! Tables close together, very noisy altho it is run up to Xmas so understandable, busy even st 5 pm. The head waiter/manager is a nice guy, very attentive.

Came here with a groupon voucher for 2 courses each and prosecco, I was given as a gift, didn't even know it was on the lane even though I frequent the lane a lot!! Place is tiny (maybe 8 tables) but this gives it an intimate cosy feel, so don't take that as a negative. And is also clean which is a bonusService was great, very friendly and attentive. We were given a set "groupon" menu, which was fine, the only thing is the main courses were slightly limiting, starters were great with plenty of choice but from the main courses you were pretty stuck. We had mozzarella carozza and arancini to share for starters, and then I had a sausage and vegetable pasta and my partner had a king prawn pasta with garlic bread to share. Food was all lovely, would just maybe advise to widen the groupon menu choice up a little. All in all we enjoyed and would definitely return

Booked this through 5pm.com for myself and my friend. Table reserved for 8pm. When we arrived there was a party of 4 in front of us who also had booked a table. After they were seated we were kept waiting in the doorway for 20 minutes. As part of the 2 courses, a glass of prosecco was included. We were each handed a glass (which we assumed was to enjoy while we waited). We were shown to our table but 5 minutes later we were told we would have to move to another table!!! Our order was taken along with our drinks order. We asked about our glass of prosecco and was told we'd had it!!! So much for thinking they were being hospitable earlier!!!!! Our starter arrived within minutes but still no drinks!!! Main arrived almost as soon as our plates from our starter were taken away!!! Our drinks eventually arrived as we finished our mains!!!! The starters were very average! My mozzarella sticks had obviously been reheated, as they were overdone. The bruchetta was tasteless and lacking in imagination! The mains were ok, but nothing I couldn't do at home. We did complain about the wait and we were given a free shot of lemoncello but calling it a shot is being generous!!!!I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially with the numerous options nearby!!! The waiter was very good and almost embarrassed by the attitude of the owner/manager.I don't think it was worth the wait or money. My initial instinct to leave was right!!! 5pm.com should rethink having this restaurant on their website as it doesn't so their reputation any good.

Initial impression very compact place, friendly waiter offered a 6 place table for the two of us. Only one waiter taking orders, serving and running the bar, so waited a while for order to be taken. Nice touch gave us chilled glasses for our wine. Then the food came. Deep fried mushrooms very greasy and mayonnaise had oil on the surface, calamari although loads of it was chewy. Mains tagliatelle with sausage pretty tasteless, I had veal which was ok but sautéed potatoes tasted like they'd been there before. Half way through eating found a hair on my plate. Waiters response was hairs and flys get in food in kitchens! Don't think so! Didn't wait for desert. Arrived here 20 minutes early. Was told by a very rude waiter that i would need to wait, which we were happy to do. Was directed to a dirty table, even though there were empty tables available. Had to ask for a drink as we were ignored. Felt very uncomfortable when the rude waiter came out and said we had no booking. I showed him the reservation email and afte he made a big scene he stormed off into the kitchen shouting and screaming. We sat there listening to the staff all arguing very loudly from the kitchen. It was so awkward and my partner wanted to leave. We decided to stay and hoped things would get better. He brought out the drinks, including a can of diet coke which was part of a multi pack, I didn't realise that these were legal to sell to the public in restaurants. Our starters came out soon after, the prawn cocktail was average but the pate was very dark in colour, like it had been lying out all day and it tasted a bit off. Things seemed to be going from bad to worse. Our main meals appeared and on the surface looked ok, that was until I went to eat my third forkful. I was horrified to see a dead wasp lying there in my food. I called over the waiter and showed him this. His reply was "it's the season for wasps"!!! I was astounded! He asked if I would like another meal, but I was done at this point. We decided to leave. On our way out he sarcastically shouted ciao. Our evening was totally spoiled. Avoid this place, rude staff, overpriced rotten food and rip off multi packs of coke, and I dread to think how a dead wasp ended up in the food as part of my meal.

We stumbled across this tiny restaurant by accident and decided to have a meal here... The service was friendly, happy and enjoyable and we ended up having a laugh with staff throughout our time here. To start with we ordered the rice balls (can't remember what they were called on the menu now). These were average, but we were given a bit extra since we were sharing, which was lovely of the staff. I had expected the mains to be average like the starter, but was entirely mislead. I ordered the risotto with chicken and asparagus, and my boyfriend got the leg of lamb. Both were exceptional. One of the best risotto's I have had, the balance of flavours was brilliant, and it was cooked to perfection. The meat on the lamb leg just melted off the bone. We had a side of garlic bread with this, which came as thick rustic slices that went perfectly with the food. We washed this all down with the house white wine, which, for a house white wine, was really decent and enjoyable to drink. It's a nice little restaurant, with a bunch of friendly and upbeat Italian staff. The restaurant is minuscule, though, and at times can feel cramped. Wine bottles were stored above my head and during the meal staff had to keep leaning over me to get to the bottles which was mildly uncomfortable. The toilets, also, leave a lot to be desired...they're not nice at all. Overall though, I liked this place and I would go back again given the chance!

A small restaurant upstairs in Ashton lane off Byres road in West End of Glasgow.Service was excellent but the food was average. Salad was doused with far too much oil and the lettuce was not fresh. My spaghetti Marinara was not fresh. Beef stroganoff was enjoyed by one of our party. Over all I would not return to this restaurant.

Lovely little restaurant with exceptional service. 5pm offers a Dessert as a second course and the in house menu only has starter and main. Asked the waiter if we could have desert as second course and he sorted it while being very charming. Would return very tasty and good portions good value.

Lunch visit here today , using an itison voucher. This is a small restaurant, friendly waiter, food was OK but 2 points off as the portion as absolutely tiny. Suspect this was due to the voucher as other tables had much larger portions.Other restaurants give regular portions when using itison rather than smaller ones so very disappointed

Recommended by the pub near by and was not disappointed. Food was very good and the staff very friendly. A very small place but it meant we got speaking to fellow diners and the atmosphere was brilliant. My daughter lives in the west end and didn't realise it was there so will be giving it a visit after our comments . Well worth a visit if you are staying in the west end

My partner and I had a lovely unexpected meal here. I know there must be cons to having a restaurant up a narrow flight of stairs and only having the minimum amount of room available but I think this just adds to the restaurant. It gets everyone smiling at each other and starting conversations that would never be started in your usual chain restaurants. The food is lovely, we had the lasagna and a beautiful chicken dish in a tomato sauce with garlic bread and chips to share. Nothing to complain about but nothing to write home about either a nice averaged priced Italian.

Lunch for five of us, squeezed into this tiny upper floor eatery.Cheerful and prompt service, despite the place being absolutely full. Straightforward lunch menu prompted swift arrival of attractive and wholesome slightly rustic Italian starters and main courses. Delightful meals enjoyed by all. Service, food quality, and amazing value make the whole event excellent. Why pay more?

We sought out Una Storia as a quieter and more intimate spot for dinner than the busy restaurants and bars along Ashton Lane, we missed it at first but then spotted the sign high up above the steps. It was almost empty at 8pm on a Monday but had filled up by 9pm. It was even smaller than we expected so has limited capacity.Good points:+ Rather old fashioned but charming little place+ Good value and service+ Much quieter than the street level bars and restaurantsNot so good points:- Access by external steps only- One of the few places that I have been to recently that has a poor house red wine, this is best avoided and reminds me of the plonk that we used to be offered years ago (another sign that Una Storia is rather old fashioned)- Unfortunately the cooking won't win any culinary awards and the dishes don't compare favourably with other Italian independent restaurants or the better chains (eg Jamie's Italian)

Small intimate Italian restaurant. Very reasonable prices and extremely friendly staff would definitely recommend it. We had the early dinner option, but even their full menu was very reasonably priced. Would definitely eat here again.

Went here on an itison voucher. The choice of food was very good and the vegetarian main course I ordered (the Penne Mexicana) tasted delicious. The wine on offer was of a good quality and the Tiramisu was to die for. The restaurant is up a very steep stair which is not for the faint-hearted but the restaurant itself is worth the climb as it is small, cosy and charming. Would recommend that you give Una Storia a try - they have excellent lunch and pre-theatre offers on all the time.

Quirky wee Italian place in the middle of Ashton Lane. Ideally located for a pre cinema meal. Nice atmosphere. Pleasant and helpful staff. Early evening menu has a good choice and is reasonably priced at £12.95 for two courses. We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered and would happily return.

We travelled a long distance, booked for a party of 12 people, asked about kids 3 of them all under 10 yrs. some of our party arrived late. Apologised about the delay. Ordered a range of drinks. The Restuarant is small I was embarrased when the waiter confronted me to say the £11.95 menu with preseco was unavailable, because some of our paty were late, and that we would have to pay £13.95 a head including full price for the children. His eyes rolled to the people in the next table. The sourful waiter created a unwelcome atmosphere. Should have walked away. Manuel fawlty towers without his humour would describe the night. Food was delicous compliments to the chef. Would advise owners to have a childs menu . welcome their guests treat anyone the way you would like to be treated , with courtesy and respect. we have travelled around the world eat out in small Italian restuarants been delighted with flavours and dishes, una storia doesn't match this at all. Booking large celebrational meals seemed a hassle .

This place was great. We visited Glasgow in December from the US and wanted some Italian food as a break from the pubs. What a fantastic surprise. The staff was friendly, entertaining and made us feel at home. Haven't laughed that much at dinner in a while. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is among the buzz of Ashton lane .it is a small intimate space. The interior has gone for the traditional red and white check Italian look. The main of chicken Vesuvio was delicious in a creamy sauce with red peppers through it and served with rice.

This was our 3rd visit to this restaurant but we won't be coming back!!! The food was very good however my problem was with the manager insisting on us having whiskey and cocktail that we didn't want and them adding them to our bill. Needless to say he didn't get a tip. We won't be returning.

The service you receive is next to none. The staff are excellent, an example of their attention to you was on arrival my friend complained about being hungry and keen to order so the owner brought us over a board of bread and olives, which was free of charge to tide us over. The early dinner menu has about 6 choices of starter and 6 main. The house white wine is very nice too. For an Italian, the mix of food available was great.

We visited this cozy Italian restaurant on the first floor of an old building in Ashton Lane beside other eateries and Pubs. The Early Dinner menu was presented to us along with 2 others all offering a wide selection Nice ambience with attentive, friendly staff . The food was typically Italian and very nice, perfectly seasoned and well presented. This is not Fine Dining but then it dosn't pretend to be. Good menu choice, well cooked and gentle on the wallet. Hits the mark.

Great place to meet up. Food good. Great value. Booked for 2 course with glass of Prosecco for a table of 8 - good menu choices and excellent portions. Very friendly staff but a little pushy trying to get us to spend more money. Not suitable for those with limited mobility - outside stairs with awkward handrail.

I own a kitchen cleaning company and I was called out to take a look at the ventilation extraction system to provide a quote for cleaning this. Ally, the manager/owner? was extremely polite and plausible and I duly surveyed the extremely dirty system and provided a quote for cleaning. The quote (£320 + VAT) was accepted and our engineers completed the works on 19th May. Everything seemed fine until we realised that the invoice was not going to be paid. To cut a long story short, Ally's husband owned the restaurant at the time of the clean and now she owns it with the original company going into liquidation blah blah - you know how these things pan out I'm sure! Shameful treatment of a small business. Named and shamed!Andy Malloy - Director Blitz Group

This was the first time my husband and I along with our young daughter had visited Glasgow's West End, somewhere we decided to head for lunch. We went into the quaint Una Storia restaurant, which although it is small inside, it is quirky, welcoming and best of all it served delicious food. There was plenty to choose from for myself being a rather fussy vegetarian, my husband had the tasty scallops and our daughter spaghetti with chicken which she really enjoyed. We went at lunchtime and it was buzzing with a mixture of clientele, from friends and couples, and equally we felt it suited families too. This restaurant would be ideal for a romantic evening dinner as the location is really lovely in a vibrant area which is is around the corner from the subway. Finally I have to give a particular mention to the owner, who made the visit thoroughly enjoyable and watching him laugh and interact with the other diners was really lovely to see. Whilst we are not regular visitors to Glasgow we would certainly make the effort to return to this restaurant the next time we are there. Thank you!

Ordered take away from the website, they asked me to sit down and wait for 10 min when I arrived meaning that I got the food 10 min later than the time I had selected as the pick up time. They were also out of take away sauces so I had to go and pour them on my own into small containers. I asked them TWICE to give me butter for the corn. Once when I arrived and 2nd time when they packed it, and, of course, they never provided me the butter which I realised when I came back to the hotel. Never trust the order, always double check yourself before leaving the restaurant as this resulted in a huge disappointment for me.
