Our regular 'go to' Chinese was shut for summer holidays and so had to make a last minute alternative for a takeaway. Very convenient as a 3 minute drive away (don't bother with delivery unless your are a lot further away and then if you are there has to be something else as good more local). I am presuming this is now just a takeaway. There are tables but none were set. And the place is tiny. You have to walk through the tables to get to the place to order/collect your food. Food was ready quickly - 15 mins - which sadly means they probably had not a lot of custom on what was a midweek night in summer holiday season. No one else was in there in the few minutes I was there. OK, so my review of the food is based on only two dishes, a rice and some prawn crackers so no idea whether what I had was representative. One dish was good. One was bland. Portion sizes on the small side and so larger eaters than us will probably have wanted more for 2 persons (which then starts to make it expensive). Paid about the same as my go to place so it will be back to there next time. In this day and age surprised to see they offer 10% discount for cash on collection for orders over £20. They must have a very bad arrangement with their card payment processor.

Always enjoy the food from here particularly the sweet and sour chicken balls in batter and the crispy beef. I always collect rather than ask for delivery which I prefer so I get the food quicker.

An hour delivery time is long. I called when the delivery hadn’t arrived after 1 hour and 20 minutes. I was told an hour delivery actually meant give us 15 minutes extra. Food was ok not great, quite bland. Really disappointed we’ve had great food in the past but tonight did not deliver.

We ordered a delivery on New Year's Eve which was perfect. Delivery was spot on time and the food was great as always. Great service.

We just moved to Claygate and thought we would try this local business. We regularly eat Chinese food and have it at least once most weeks, but this was the worse we have ever experienced. Chow Mein tasting of burnt flavour and black on the bottom. Chicken fried rice that was really boiled rice, with a few chicken chunks and peas thrown in. Salt and pepper ribs that were soggy, undercooked and vile. Hot and spicy soup that was like gravy. We could of lived with the small portions, if it was edible but this was shocking - really guys why bother to open if you can’t be bothered to do a proper job. We called and expressed our displeasure - but not once did the lady apologies - but just tried to insult our intelligence and tell us this is how Chinese food should be ! Such a shame a local business can not do better and be humble enough to apologies when they clearly get it wrong. Suffice to say we won’t be going back and will order better, cheaper from people who want our business on - Just Eat.

This is a fairly inexpensive takeaway / small restaurant. Portions are not huge. But food good. Nothing hugely exciting - but nevertheless good value for money

Arrived with mum and daughter without booking and owner was happy to accommodate us. Ordered a variety of appetizers and a couple of mains with rice. All expertly cooked and well balanced. Highly recommend.

First time for us, ordered over the phone for delivery. Everything worked to plan, all of us enjoyed the food and would heartily recommend. Portions slightly on small side otherwise would have been five star.

Ordered a take away. Tasteless food. Very strange supposedly deep fried squid that was flabby with a thick coating. Sweet and sour pork was very bland, no flavour. The aubergine dish was horrible...they have probably made a mistake with the aubergine dish, as in we were wrongly given ‘aubergine with sea spiced sauce’

We traveled quite a time to pick up and am delighted we did. Our local restaurants were all closed so we came here from Leatherhead. Food was better than we've had from our local restaurants so will define back.

The food has always been good and the takeaways are generous, but portions when you eat in are a little on the small side, and I'm not exactly greedy. Nevertheless this is a nice little restaurant with friendly staff that deserves to be busier.

For a local Chinese Asian restaurant, I have nothing but praise for both the service and the quality of food they serve. I was especially impressed with the fact that the friendly waitress and I assume part owner, undertook to have cooked a special request something which I have been unable to obtain elsewhere, that is Orange beef , with all the accoutrements, that with an excellent sweet and sour chicken for my wife left us with a very pleasant memory on the taste buds, and I would have no hesitation i recommending this averagely priced, clean, attentive, tasty ( if a tad stark in its decor) restaurant

Have eaten here several times. Always get good food and service at a decent price. Some lovely vegetarian options too!

We purchased a take away to take to a local guest house. The food was cooked quickly and the service was good but the portions were very small, the food was average at best and for what you got it was expensive. It was a mid evening Friday night and there was only 1 set of 3 guys eating at the table next to the window i suppose to make it look busy from the outside and we were the only ones ordering a take away so i guess that says it all.

Just had a take away that was cold and possibly pre cooked as the cold food had very little flavour, shame as we are very local and have used this place before but will not be using again.

Having visited here in the past, the most recent visit will most certainly be our last!

The food in this restaurant was lovely. It is a very small restaurant and every guest received lots of attention. The prices were very reasonable and the food itself was all very good. Highly recommend the vegetables and chicken noodles (lo mein) as well as the dumplings. The staff are very friendly.

Pedimos comida para llevar en esta noche y una vez más Ume encantados con todos los platos que elegimos. A mi familia le encantó el pato crujiente con tortitas y siempre nos encanta su carne desmenuzada chili y fideos. En general, buena relación calidad-precio y delicioso servicio rápido. Qué más se puede pedir en su restaurante chino local.

El interior el espacio es limitado, así que con 5 de nosotros, nos parecía llenar la mitad del restaurante. Creo que el camarero no esperaba comer!

We quite often come here for an early supper/treat with our kids. The food is very good with plenty of choice and we are always made to feel very welcome.

Excellent Chinese and such a nice atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed the dim sum platter. Very good value too.

And it was ok. Nothing special. One thing that I'm not a fan off and I appreciate that if a personal choice but I'm not a fan of foil trays. Much prefer plastic. I would go there again but only for a take away.

This restaurant is very small ( about 20 covers) but the food is authentic and well presented. The husband is the chef and the wife is front of house. Both very pleasant interested in pleasing the diners. Unfortunately it does nont ope lunch time

I've been going to Ume since it opened up in Claygate. It has been consistently fantastic, some of the highest quality Chinese food I have tasted. The staff are pretty nice, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. However, I have a few complaints. The service is quite slow, especially when ordering main courses. Even without other people in the restaurant, I've found the times quite surprising. Also, the cost is pretty high. Whilst it's not the most expensive Asian restaurant in Surrey (by quite a bit), the food here is expensive. However, you can see where the money goes, the food is always of the upmost quality. I'd also like to point out the range of food is fantastic, and they have great service for gluten-free people. Just remember to tell them when you're ordering!The takeaway service is actually pretty fast, and the quality just as good!

I don't normally use takeaways as i'm a home meal type of guy but might consider ordering from this restaurant again. I came late from work and was too tired to cook so decided to order food from Ume as per some people's recommendations. As expected their service was very good. The staff were very polite on the phone and within 20 mins of ordering I had my food delivered. Most importantly the food was very nice, my favourite is the chicken noodles.

I came here with a few friends again, as i havent been for a few momths and realised the bad reviews amd though i better try them again, and they were great nothing changed at all, i came with a a friend who has a gluten allergy, which is kind of troublesome at some places as you can imagine.When we ordered the starters we asked the waiter about starters that were gluten free and there were only a few that they could make that were gluten free. We ordered the dry shredded smoked chicken, crispy fine beans. She had a salt and pepper prawns,and soft shell crab, but the chef made it gluten free for us! All in all the starters were great!For main course my friend had the sweet and sour pork hong kong style and chicken noodles, and the chef chamged the noodles for her and used rice noodles as opposed to egg noodles. I had duck in orange sauce with pak choi in garlic, singapore noodles, kung po chicken, and the food was really nice, my friend enjoyed her gluten free food, i loved the duck in orange sauce its really tasty full of flavour highly recommend this dish! We had tsigntao beers all night woth our food and its a very nice beer its quite light but taste great! I highly recommend this restaurant and i would go and make your own mind up don't take all these reviews as a guide but would seriously recommend going here and trying it yourself! I gaurentee you will enjoy your experience!

I went on a weeknight to Ume with a friend because we fancied some Chinese food. We entered the restaurant, and right away I could smell something that smelled like raw sewage or dirty water. I later realized it was the bathrooms that were creating this smell. When we got around to ordering our food, we ordered some sweet and sour chicken, and some spicy chicken dish I can't remember what it's called. Anyway, when the food arrived it looked decent enough. However, the taste was bland and a bit gross, and the food seemed as if it had been reheated in a microwave, but it was still lukewarm. Overall, not the best experience.

Had numerous nice takeaways from UME. Delighted it's on my doorstep.Usually have suggested menu C for 2 which is pretty good.

I came from surbiton to taste Chinese food hearing from another friend.The atmosphere is really suitable for dinner in mild light and music.I ordered crispySeaweed,lemon chicken,aromatic duck,broccoli with oyster sauce,chicken with black bean sauce,egg fried rice and prawn noodle for 3 people.we have tasted so many chinese menu before,but are certifying this resturant as special one-just appropriate to the taste valuing the money. I can not resist myself without putting the review to inform thefood lovers to have a bite on the dishes.

The food was excellent, cooked perfectly to my standards. I was very happy with the service and the staff where polite, helpful and well presented. Overall I was very happy and would go again soon.

I live in claygate and have used this restaurant both a takeaway and for dining in. I have had some ok experiences, but most have been boarder lining on the 'just about' acceptable. On occasion though the food has been really poor as other reviews suggest. Poor taste, poor presentation and suspicions of microwave syndrome (who knows if this is true....just a perception). Unfortunately this means I won't go there anymore. I'm really not sure why it seems hit and miss. I'd really like this to get sorted out as I'm sure people living nearby would rather have a Chinese closeby rather than having to drive to Esher or Surbiton.

I've never written a review but in this case I simply have to in order to warn other people about this restaurant/takeaway.My boyfriend and I fancied a Chinese takeaway and ordered mini spring rolls, spare ribs, quarter of crispy duck with pancakes, Singapore noodles and sweet and sour chicken. We were starving so it was quicker for me to drive and collect our order than to wait for a delivery. I waited 5 minutes in the dingy, dark restaurant with zero atmosphere (no candles or music) and duly paid approx £35 for the food. Once home we began with the spare ribs and spring rolls. Well the spring rolls were definitely mini (more like miniscule) but at least edible. The spare ribs were the most revolting things I've ever eaten. They were chopped up into little bits, in a mushy watery onion sauce and the worst thing was they weren't on the bone they were full of gristle. I wouldn't have fed them to a dog!We then moved on to the duck pancakes....only problem was there was no duck, they hadn't put it in the bag! Not at all happy by now I drove back to the restaurant and told them we were missing the duck and also that the ribs were disgusting. The owner firstly questioned me that it was in the bag, which it most definitely wasn't. She then said she must have given it to someone else by mistake. I mentioned a refund but instead had to wait for the duck to be brought out and was given some different complimentary spare ribs and prawn crackers.So back at home again we tried the new spare ribs and they weren't as bad as the first but very bland and tasteless. We then opened the duck carton and were dismayed to see that the word 'crispy' had obviously been a false advertisement. The duck was in no way crispy, just a soggy lump of meat that looked like pork. We then thought at least we have the noodles and sweet and sour chicken but the chicken sauce tasted powdery and not like a sweet and sour sauce should be at all, and the noodles tasted like they'd been heated in a microwave - just dry, rubbery and tasteless. We couldn't eat anything but the prawn crackers and by then were not in the mood to order food from elsewhere or cook so we went to bed hungry.All I can say is that there can't possibly have been a proper chef in that restaurant and I would never go back there in a million years. The Good Earth in Esher is absolutely amazing and I would rather drive there from Claygate to collect a takeaway in the future. You have been warned!!!

Been here last week and it became one of my favourite Chinese Restaurant. It has exquisite Chinese food such as duck, crunchy shredded beef, chicken balls and prawns and much more lovely food.The service is very good and the ambiance in the restaurant is wonderful. You eat in a very large room which have many tables, round for large parties and square for 1-2 people. The decorations are very nice with pictures of blue waves.I recommend this place.

I often order a Chinese takeaway from Ume, and the food and service has always been excellent. Food always is always prepared quickly and efficiently and tastes great! see you next week Ume!

As a reviewer with nearly 200 reviews under my belt you can tell instantly I eat out a lot and in MANY places. So the shocker is that this restaurant was so bad I really don’t even know where to start with this review…. All i would say to you good people of Claygate is that the world has moved beyond eateries aimed at Gerry & Margo from the Good-life. This is not the seventies and you deserve better than this.... I never do bad reviews lightly. But when I get bad service and bad food I want YOU to know about it. And I want Ume to sit up and take note. PHOTOS TO SHOW !So here we go: I arrived at Ume as a solo business man STARVING hungry. That day I had woken up at 5am and worked straight all day at Sandown Race Course at a toolfair trade show. So now its evening. I have had NO FOOD all day and I am so hungry I would have eaten anything.Anyway I leave my guest house the Rosemead just up the road and walk the 10 mins to get to Ume. I was heading out for a curry but I spotted this place on route. So I gave it a go.1) First question from me to the owner on arrival. Do you have wifi? Answer No. So no biggy here folks but it would have been nice for me as a solo diner to be able to sit down and answer some emails from work for the day. But I can live without it. 2) Next… The same guy (owner?) who is sitting behind a little booth. Well he clears his throat by rolling a big grolly very loudly from the back of his throat and into his stomach... I KID YOU NOT !! Ewww.3) More diners arrive so I am now not alone but I feel a bit awkward so read my newspaper on my ipad. You are getting it the ambience is awkward !4) I order wine by the glass at £4 for the house wine not unreasonable priced.5) Usually for starters I have vegetarian wonton so as mentioned above the place in not really of this decade so I skip starters.6) On to the mains I order Sha Cha Beef (£7) and Chilli Chicken (£7) and Veg with ginger (£5) and Rice (£3)Now for the hard bit.. The meal arrives dish by dish and at first it looks presentable on its little trays but then EWWWW they taste revolting. Each dish is just a slop of onions. And the whole thing on each dish is WATERY. I have eaten some bad meals in my time. And I mean bad. But let me tell you these were REALLY REALLY bad. There was no taste. The was no flavour. There was no texture. It was just a mush of boiled onions with watery sauce and meat. It was so bad I could not even finish it. I am quickly onto my third glass of wine to try and take away the awful tastes but its no good. So I had to abandon the meal. I called for my bill (£33 total) and paid up but DID NOT LEAVE A TIP.In fact I simply used up all my loose change. Did I complain? No. Why not? Because there was never ever going to be any real rescue from this farce. It would have meant more cooking of the same fodder. And there was no way I would have got my money back. The sad shame of it is that a short distance down the road is a Chinese of much better quality. (The Good Earth). And even worse the next day my peers working at the show said what wonderful meals they had all eaten elsewhere.I am very sad to have had to eat such rubbish. And I am sad that my pocket is £33 lighter. The food standards agency rate them 4 out of 5 so nothing wrong with their Hygiene I simply found their food inedible and watery. And the service awful.

Our families have been use this local Chinese since 5 yours ago after we moved in to Claygate. Food always fabulous - bright, clean flavors. One of the down side is the restaurant is quite small, make sure you make a reservation.

This Saturday I had the pleasure of ordering a Chinese takeaway from Ume, which is about a minute's walk away from where I live. The website was a horror to navigate, but I persevered, and soon had my order put together. I was not ordering late, and the food arrived on time, so I expected a fairly standard Chinese meal. Unfortunately, the rice was in a dry lump, and had clearly been sitting around for quite some time. The crispy beef was chewy, the beansprouts were soggy and sour, and the beef with ginger was limp, tough, and entirely flavourless except for the literal chunks of ginger that had apparently been tossed in there at the last minute. The only acceptable element was the prawn crackers, which are apparently hard to spoil.We were starving, and so ate as much as we could stomach - had it been otherwise, I would have taken it back and demanded a refund. I won't be going back there again - try literally anywhere else, there are other Chinese takeaway places in Esher.

A very nice local chinese. I have ordered take aways from here many times over the last couple of years! The food is always good and fresh in my opinion, once a dish was not available which for a small restaurant is totally understandable. We were also ordering food rather late on that occassion. I find all the staff very helpful and polite and will actively continue to support this local business! The food isnt cheap chinese but having said that you are never left feeling bloating and full after a few mouthfuls as with cheaper takeaways. Id much rather pay a few pounds more and really enjoy my meal during and after! Id highly recommend the smoked shredded chicken! I hope this restaurant gets enough local support to keep going! I certainly try my best to support them!

Looking for a Chinese restaurant close to Esher, this place is a hidden gem..... Great value for money, the food is fresh and really tasty..... Make sure you book as there are only a few tables. A lot of people do take-away from this place, and we will be doing the same in the future....

My wife and I made our first visit last evening - a Saturday. We arrived at our booked time of 7.30 and together with ourselves there were 19 people in the restaurant, which must be close to its capacity especially because it also provides take-aways.As a starter we ordered their standard shared plate. This took quite a time to come and arrived with apologies for the delay. In due couse four people finished and left leaving 15 in the restaurant and at 8.40 I observed all were waiting for food, which didn't augur well for us. Waiting with a crowd of friends isn't too bad but when there are just the two of you it can spoil an occasion. In the end we agreed to wait until 9pm and if our main course still hadn't arrived we would call it a night. As it happened it arrived bang on the stroke of 9pm.It might be our fault in the choice of what we ordered but I was not impressed by my meal, which I found bland. It would have been improved by a totally different style of dish on our order but that never arrived and given the not ungenerous portions we decided not to chase it up (and Lord knows how much longer we would have had to wait for it).My wife enjoyed her meal a little more than I did but neither of us felt we wanted to make a return visit.I must say I am making this posting in the light of the many outstanding reviews Ume has received just to warn folk that the kitchen might not be able to provide the same service when the place is pretty full.

I went For a meal with my girlfriend, I booked a table for me and my gf and we went their, using the fact it was chinese new year to celebrate, it was a full house, they were really busy. Understandably the food took their time, they had one waiter, who was very approachable, and very well spoken, I had crispy fine beans, and squid salt and pepper for a starter, it was lovely but it took a while for the food to come out, but there wasnt a lack of quality.I was constantly being apolagised to by the waiter, but the phone was ringing constantly through the night.I would recommend going to anyone, its great food and a great atmosphere, but when its really busy the kitchen seems to struggle

We went to this restaurant for the first time last week based on Trip Advisor and friends' recommendations. We were not disappointed. A familiar and simple Chinese menu but excellent service, freshly cooked and tasty food, good sized portions and overall a very pleasant experience. We will now be switching our regular takeaway purchases to here from the rather more expensive competitor in Esher.

My missus and I discovered this restaurant via TripAdvisor. What an hidden gem this is! The food was awesome, the environment was perfect for an date, friendly staff, very well spoken. Had the almond chicken, what a lovely combination. and, how can i forget the Lobster with ginger and spring onion! highly recommended place. will be back very very soon!!!Also very easy to get to as just outside Claygate Station! Bring on the drinks!

My wife & I have used Ume since they first opened (with a ceremony involving a large Chinese dragon dancing in the street.)The staff have always been friendly & helpful in suggesting dishes or tailoring the menu items to suit personal taste- as the food is freshly prepared & authentically cooked.Charlie, the owner & chef often comes into the restaurant from the kitchen to invite feedback and contribute to the 'family run' feel.The food has never disappointed, even when I have ordered 'off piste.'For something different, try the Crispy Mongolian Lamb starter- it's my wife's favourite starter. For me, I have no favourite because everything I've ordered so far, I've thoroughly enjoyed.It's my first ever review but I feel obliged to share my very positive experience of this small, endearing yet thoroughly organised and well run establishment. You could not be disappointed here.

Lovely cosy family run restaurant with some unique chinese dishes. Orange chicken, soft shell crab, smoked chicken are some of my favourites. As this is a family run restuarant all the dishes are made fresh so you can ask for less salt, no msg, no onions, more spicy and the chef is always happy to accomodate. I always like extra bean spouts in my noodles!My husband favourite is the special noodles extra crispy.

Recently had a lovely meal in ume. Due to the summer my friend n i both like to watch our weights, n prefer 2 have vegetables rather than meat. The vegetable section in the menu is small, so we ask the chef if there is anymore vegetarian dishes n realised they can do most of the dishes in vegetarian style. We love the crispy fine beans, brocolli in black bean n the singapore vegetarian noodles. Very tasty meal, will definitely back 2 this small family run restaurant.

I came back from holiday and I just needed a nice meal and relaxed atmosphere to chill out after being away for the week, and ume has once again proven to be a perfect place to get that wonderful atmosphere thanks ume another great meal

My husband and I have eaten at the restaurant and had bought take away food from Ume. The food always hits the spot for us, there is a good selection of dishes, the portions are a good size. We never leave hungry or disappointed. The staff are always friendly and helpful with our dietary requirements ans the chef has given us some yummy recommendations! Definitely will go back.

I went here with my wife off the back of many reviews on here.Firstly, the restaurant is tiny, so if its quite empty, as it was for us, you need to keep your voice down or everyone can hear your conversation. There were 6 tables set up when we were there, this included two tables for 8, three tables for 4 and one for 2, which we were on.The service was good and the waiter was very approachable.Unfortunately, looking at previous reviews people made reference to great vegetarian options, which we were looking forward to as my wife is a veggie. However, from the main meal section there were only 6 dishes written up for a veggie and two of these used fish in their sauce. So that was not impressive.Overall, I think that although the food is nice, there are better Chinese restaurants in the area and we will be sticking with these rather than return to Ume any times soon

Just been for a lovely family meal here. I am a resident of claygate and never eaten in any of the local places but shall definitely be back for more with my husband.It is a small place so you don't feel you are ever waiting ages for service, very friendly and the food was amazing...every dish was wonderful. The toffee apple dessert was also amazing. I read the other reviews on here before booking and was reassured it was a lovely place after the local pub the foley let my father in law down with a booking, well here is another positive review...will also now order our take away from here too after tasting the wonderful lamb in honey xx

We had dinner at Ume last night and as a dairy-free vegetarian family we are very particular about how our food is prepared. We were pleasantly surprised with how positive and responsive our waitress was in taking our order and she made sure she got it right. When the food was served, we were delighted once again with the freshness and variety contained in the vegetarian Singapore noodles and mixed vegetables fried rice which were accompanied by bean sprouts and mixed vegetables in garlic sauce. Nothing was oily or greasy, which was much appreciated. Our children loved the Singapore noodles so much that we promptly repeated the order for the noodles. This was our first time at Ume and the family has decided to make this our new favourite Chinese restaurant. Thank you Ume for serving-up fresh and great tasting Chinese food in a very welcoming and cosy atmosphere. We can't wait to go back to Ume again!Mr Gill

Ume restaurant and takeaway has become my local now, and me and my girlfriend have been coming there for a while now, i always enjoy a takeaway or table there and the food goes without saying is some of the best around! Recently i went to celebrate my parents anniversary and as usual, the staff were friendly, quick and reliable, and the food was out of this world! My parents said that they had a realy enjoyable time, and they recomend it to anyone, and are sure to tell their friends all about it. The food is well priced for the standard of food, and the place is always clean, to a good standard, although service became a little slower when things got busy, it was still a quick service to what you would expect! Allways and forever, UME! :D

Very small restaurant in Claygate's Station Parade which is worth the trip. No over dressed food with sweet sticky sauces just truly delicious Chinese food prepared and served by charming hosts.

Ordered my first takeaway from here as a result of the good reviews on TA as well as the interesting menu (on the website, which is well constructed) that contained some lesser seen dishes. Inside the restaurant was a smallish one room affair with no private space (booths, out of the way tables etc), but seemed nice, although as a takeaway I was only there awaiting the order. I like some heat to dishes, not stupidly spicy but when noted on a menu as hot I expect to notice it - from a Chinese restaurant some sichuan pepper and/or chillies would be expected. Therefore I ordered some things that were either noted as hot on the menu, or that my past experiences indicated should be. Although there was certainly a few slices of chillies, it was overall a tame experience and nothing that left me feeling this was out of the ordinary. It was enjoyable, but really quite standard UK Chinese fare I had experienced many times before. If I lived in Claygate, I would be satisfied with this as a reasonable, reliable local, but as I live a little farther away, I wouldn't make a special trip as I would to some more interesting Chinese restaurants elsewhere.

My personal favourite at Ume has to be the lobster with ginger and spring onion, again and again I find myself drawn to this family run restaurant that provides great service. The owner and chef Charlie on many an occasion comes to great diners while eating and nothing is too much trouble for him to accommodate. The salt and pepper soft shell crab and honey lamb are also outstanding.The very reasonably priced and high standard of wine list always goes down well.Many thanks again for the amazing food and impeccable service as always, looking forward to my next visit already.Ume what a gem.

I recently went to Ume restaurant with my girlfriend to eat in after a brilliant time at my 18th.Again the staff were attentive and humourus. We had a lovely time, and it is perfect for couples aswell becuase the music was so romanntic. I still recomend Ume to anyone who wants a decent meal at reasonable prices. We had such a perfect evening and i cant thank Ume enough

I have going to Ume in Claygate for the last few years and it never fails to impress. The restaurant is warm, unpretentious and cosy but also smart enough for an occasion such as a birthday or a new year's eve meal. The staff are universally welcoming and friendly. Ume's main asset, however, is its chef and owner, Charlie, who creates authentic, well-seasoned dishes with fresh, locally sourced produce. Nothing is too much effort. Standouts are the crispy seaweed starter and the almond chicken in orange sauce - delicious!

in the past 3 - 4 years i have been going to umi for various occasions birthdays, celebrations and also with my other half for a nice chilled meal for 2. In the time i have been dining there i have to say its the best restaurant i have been too the food is top top quality, the staff are polite and friendly and as for the owners what a lovely couple who go out of there way to make your visit there as enjoyable and relaxed as they can. Ive given everything 5 star as to me its the best around. I would highley recomend ume to any one its the best around!!!

I went to ume restaurant with my family, and I found the atmosphere of the restaurant is great the colour scheme, and music its a great combination very relaxing. The one waiter is a bit slow but he gets it done efficiently, I had crispy fine beens and they are incredible if you go you must try them! I had special fried rice and roast duck in orange sauce the duck was juicy, the rice was soft its was an all round incredible meal! And they don't charge a lot for the drinks, all round great experience and I highly recommend it too any body who enjoys fine chinese cuisine

Regular customer and have been for some time, friendly staff, great food, never been disappointed. Salt and pepper prawns are a must.

What a lovely little cosy resturant. Staff are wonderful very efficient and attentive but most importantly the food is to die for. A wonderful menu, very varied and very very tasty. Nothing is too much bother for any of the staff including the Chef's. If you require a little twist on a dish that is not a problem. I have never tasted King Prawns in Butter sauce as lovely at the one's served here. This is the only place i will eat mussels in their black bean sauce, and the honey lamb is a must. A very nice place to eat, drink and catch up, would highly recommend. They also do take away so if you live local even better. It is well worth my travel from Purley for this 1st class cusine.

Not only where the portions so small but there was no taste to the chicken curry i ordered, not much sauce on the dish as well, i also had a portion of BBQ spare ribs which where extremly dry and un eatable!! I will definetly not be returning as the waiter was extremly rude and using the word "bruv" to a customer is ridiculous! All in all its extremly overpriced and there is no taste to the food, im glad i had a take away as i would have walked out if we sat in!

I had my 18th there, and i could not be more pleased. It was great service, great food and great value for money, the staff are friendly the food is good and the place atmosphere is really good, and lastly the place is really clean and looks high class, seriously recomend going there
