Excellent stay, exceptional food and staff. It does get cold at night as I think they shut the heat off to the rooms for a short period.

I can highly recommend this place..The staff were absolutely brilliant..We had a 90th surprise birthday party..nothing was too much trouble..food and accommodation were absolutely amazing thank you..from all families..planning another in 3 years time..beautiful setting..couldn't fault it. They catered for 38 of us . Most of us stayed the night.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch. Choice of starters, mains and puddings was varied, something for everyone. Beautifully presented on the plate, tasted delicious. The portions were generous, you won't go home hungry. One of the nicest things was that we were not rushed in between courses,which often spoils it for me, lovely relaxed atmosphere. The front of house staff were friendly and professional. Going again soon.x

We stayed here last night ,The room was clean and beautiful bathroom had a bath and was fresh and clean. The restaurant was friendly amd welcoming. The staff were lively amd friendly amd the food was excellant.Can honestly say its the best place to stay if your around Machynlleth as we have stayed in most of the B&Bs. The view from the room of the lake is magical and the atmosphere amd scenery is Amazing amd I will be going back to stay there again the place is great and I felt happy while I was there .x

4 dogs, dogs pee, and dog smells. Astonishing. Whining, barking and messing. Hey ho, that's yet another place for us to avoid. Ps this was inside on their lovely wooden floor with their nice furniture. Why do premises let themselves down at the detriment of their other patrons? It's weird, but they do. Can you imagine being booked in for a break of a few days during the Winter when you can't really sit outside?

I have booked a room for 10th February, for myself and my partner, it’s a special birthday, almost Valentine’s Day anddd we get to find out the gender of our baby that day too! I have asked the hotel a few questions, and a few favours and they have been absolutely outstanding, so helpful and accommodating, I am really looking forward to meeting everyone who will have made this trip special for us! We've stopped here a fewvtimes to ise the restaurant or get a coffee. The food is very good and the staff are lovely.

So so beautiful and peaceful, the perfect lake-side hotel with great rooms and delicious food at the restaurant. Good base to walk from to climb Cader Idris or just around the lake. A peaceful and nourishing visit, look forward to returning again.

It was a busy Thursday afternoon and we were taken in to the conservatory to eat. As it was the end of October it was cold but there wasn't a single radiator on either in the conservatory or the restaurant/lounge area. I asked if we could move to sit in the restaurant/lounge area and we were accommodated. However I had to keep my coat on to eat. They have an attractive wood burning stove in the middle of the room but only have a few burning candles for heat! We have visited this hotel many times as we are fairly local but have never seen the fire lit; summer or winter.....We decided to have soup, to warm us up, and it was tasty. However our choice was also governed by the fact that all the meals come with chips which not everyone wants. It is such a beautiful spot and an attractive building but the cold is not welcoming!

Family Sunday lunch, beautifully cooked and presented, between the 5 of us we had the venison (heavenly) the beef, lamb and salmon. All the accompanying veg was cooked to perfection. Deserts were equally good, prompt service, well looked after. So lucky to have this as our local!!

Spectacular tranquil setting, stunning view and we had glorious weather. Nice pre-lunch drinks by the lake. Sunday lunch was excellent, just the right portion size allowing room for a decent apple crumble. Nice selection of beer and wine. Main problem was what appeared to be a shortage of staff. We had to wait a long time to be seated, 45 mins to be served. However, we were not in a hurry and enjoyed the meal. I'm presuming this is a problem of the industry in general ie getting staff and no reflection on this establishment. Top tip if booking well in advance ask for a lake side view table.

Our reason for staying here was the location in terms of access to leisure activities. The sheer beauty of the location was a wonderful surprise. Added to that both dinner and breakfast were excellent, a clean and tidy room, and the staff are helpful and friendly. My particular room was a little on the small side, and although everything worked well, from an ergonomic perspective, the shower room was a triumph of design over function. I believe that this does not apply to most of the rooms, I just got the short straw. It wouldn't put me off coming again. And you can swim in the lake. Maybe next time.

After reading the reviews we were expecting so much more. On arrival we asked if we could start by having a drink outside in the sunshine - absolutely not was the abrupt response, you must come through immediately (to a half empty restaurant, which never changed). We ordered a bottle of wine that didn’t anrrive until half way through our main course - I chased it a few times until I felt the girl was done with my asking. Food was okay - billed as homemade but it was a frozen pie and frozen chips. Nothing special at all, and £16, but nothing to complain about. The big problem was the room. I read a previous review complaining about the ambience and wondered why it mattered so much, but I know exactly why now. We were in a large empty near-silent room on a table bang in the middle. Old fashioned dirty patterned carpet and furniture that looked like standard NHS issue. I could hear the people on other tables chewing their meat. It was mortifying. My partner observed that he felt like we were visiting someone in an old people’s home and he couldn’t have been any more accurate. I couldn’t wait to leave. It was just so awkward. We were in the large room at the back. Perhaps the conservatory would have been better, or being allowed outside even better. The room is crying out for some partitions, privacy, atmosphere, design. I’m not sure, but it is by far the most awkward and uncomfortable I think I’ve ever felt in a restaurant - I couldn’t wait to get out! It’s a shame because the building is old and could be incredible but whoever designed that back room needs to have a massive rethink.

Our b& b gave this as a possible place for an evening meal. Due to problems with their phones we were unable to book a table so we turned up ‘on spec’. We had a lovely meal. So good that we went back again! It was very reasonably priced, especially for the quality. Good beers and wine list and great staff. It’s positioning on the lake was an added bonus. Would definitely go back again.

We had 3 nights away at this wonderful hotel on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. The view of the lake and surrounding hills is mesmerising - every time you look, you see something different. The room was large, comfortable and stylish with a huge walk in shower in the bathroom. With a log burner and rustic features and well chosen artworks, the room had been very thoughtfully put together. The staff at the hotel were all extremely helpful and attentive and they really made our stay enjoyable. Finally the food, well 3 courses of deliciousness every evening was included in our very reasonable dinner bed and breakfast rate and we were spoilt for choice on the menu. Ample portions, local produce, we wished we had stayed a week so that we could try all of the dishes!! Oh, and that's not to mention the breakfast which was also fab (I particularly enjoyed the smoked haddock and poached egg). All in all we would thoroughly recommend this absolute hidden gem of a hotel. Thank you!

Beautiful location by a lake with the drive down the valley offering incredible views. Sat out by the lake given the weather and it was perfect for an evening meal. Good choice on the menu.

Outdoor service an unacceptable Covid health risk. Almost impossible to maintain 2m distancing queueing within the gazebo area for outdoor food/drink service. Only 2 from 6 customers in the queue wearing a face mask and NONE of the staff had either a mask or face shield.

Stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and I can honestly say this hotel and area ticked all of our boxes!! We stayed in the Kingfisher lodge which was the lodge on the end of the block, with a balcony and lake view from the side. This room had no wifi signal whatsoever, so beware if you need one! Although we did manage to find a certain spot outside one of the other rooms along the outside corridor just to check for any important incoming messages. Luckily I researched the area before we came, so this didnt affect us too much.The hotel location was absolutely fantastic for us as we had recently brought wetsuits and were keen to try them out- the lake right opposite was perfect for us to do so!! A visit to Dolgoch Falls not far up the road is a must, too!!Cader Idris is a 2 mile drive away, lots of parking on the pay and display carpark and thankfully now take card payment at the machine! We managed to complete the walk using the Minnfford path, very steep and challenging but well worth the views!! Dolgellau to Barmouth cycling on the Mawddach trail was fun too, flat and scenic route, 20 miles there and back.Back to the hotel- lovely food all round, staff very friendly and attentive and we felt safe there with covid safety measurements in place.Thankyou to all the staff for making our wedding Anniversary so memorable, we cant recommend you highly enough!!

I stayed in a twin room for 2 nights. The location is incredible and great for nature watchers. Bring binoculars if you can. The sound of sheep on the hills combined with the sound of the lake's waves lapping against the nearby shore was a lovely backdrop for sleeping in the comfortable bed. The lake was popular with open water swimmers as it was relatively calm and quite shallow. No fishing was taking place at the moment and the boats were in storage behind the hotel. There was a short and excellent walk up the opposite hill, cutting through a farm, but fine if you avoided the cows and rams. Again, that was a great place for seeing quite a few bird species including I think, female black grouse, and definitely some beautiful red kites and buzzards. The walk was steep in places of course but only took 45mins to the top so I was back for the delicious breakfast. Food and overall value was excellent and the hotel has put several really sensible and simple steps in place to protect its customers. The lakeside was a great place to sit with a pint at the end of the day. The range of food on offer was great for the price and I would recommend paying a supplement for the steak. Only downsides: millions of midges - only around the very edge of the lake though - which didn't seem to bite, and the traffic whizzing past the window fairly early in the morning. Be very careful stepping out of the front of the hotel, especially with children or if you've had a beer by the lakeside! Lovely new bathroom in the room and great views all round.Would definitely recommend and would absolutely love to return one day - with some binoculars perhaps...

A tempting and varied menu - I would like to have chosen one of everything! it's sooooooo good!Quality of food was outstanding, beautifully presented and tasted totally yummy......Fabulous surroundings and views in a wonderful setting, great people, great food and drinks - the total package.Highly recommend.

Can't fault this hotel in any way! Service was excellent, welcoming and accommodating. Rooms were well decorated, extremely clean and a good size. Food was exceptional, varied and of excellent quality. The views are to say surreal is an understatement! In this current climate when many hotels use the coroner virus as an excuse for substandard service, this hotel prides itself on rising above such issues and delivering a fantastic stay to all who are lucky enough to have booked a room.

Yet again another fantastic meal at Ty'n y CornelFood is second to none. The chef is brilliant. Food is tasty and well cooked. We went for Valentines and it did not disappoint. Service is great, friendly and professionalthe only thing I can say that would be an advantage is more veg on the plate. I had Lamb with a creamy mash, veg and jus, but disappointingly, I had 1 sprog/head of broccoli, 1 piece of aubergine and one carrot. Although the taste was exceptional there was no where near enough veg to go with the meal, I managed to cut all 3 pieces of veg in half and have 6 mouthfuls of lamb and mash with veg, but the rest, in the end I was just lamb without anything else. Maybe the waiters could suggest that extra veg is ordered as there is minimal on the plate. Other than that a fantastic night with fabulous food

Ty’n Y Cornel Hotel is not out of the way, the busy road tells you this but conversely, it is one of the most beautiful locations you could wish for if you want to get away from it all. The hotel does have Wi-Fi but its range is limited and you may find it a struggle to get mobile signals but that only adds to the plusses. You can relax in the well laid out gardens, stroll around the lake, or climb the steeped sloped mountains which surround you. It really is a superb get away. The hotel has comfortable rooms and offers a free full Welsh breakfast which will set you up for the day. Staff are friendly and helpful and happy to cater to your needs. We stayed there for a wedding and the hotel pulled out all the stops to make the happy couples day one to remember.If you want a good value, upper class hotel in Wales then the Ty’n Y Cornel Hotel might just tick the box's

We have just had (5th October 2019) the most wonderful wedding at the Tyn y Cornel Hotel.Our vision for our wedding was somewhere that had a homely, understated relaxed feel but was also quite special. The Tyn y Cornel delivers this in abundance and in it’s setting has the absolute ‘wow’ factor. We aren’t Church goers and wanted to keep things simple by having our ceremony and reception in one place (we also thought it would likely help with costs...). The Tyn y Cornel is a perfect place to do this. We were able to reserve the whole hotel for our wedding and there are two lovely large reception rooms so there is plenty of space for guests to mill about and enjoy the surroundings and venue in between the different aspects of the day. A lot of our guests stayed (we filled the hotel) and they loved the experience and all enjoyed their stay. An offer was given for a 3rd night which gives your guests opportunity to explore the stunning area also.We had just shy of 80 guests for the wedding breakfast and everyone commented that the food was exceptional and that was with different choices offered for each course. Malcolm, Christo, Ian and the team looked after us very well. They are very friendly, welcoming and professional. The surroundings of the hotel give it the absolute ‘wow’ factor and it was a beautiful backdrop to our day. You do need to dress the venue yourself, which was the only slightly daunting challenge for us as we live quite a distance away so this took a fair amount of planning and coordination but it was well worth it. Malcolm may have some local connections now or could be helpful to enlist support of a wedding planner, if you could afford it. We loved every minute of our day and are very grateful to everyone at the Tyn y Cornel for making it so special.

This is the second time we have been here. Its still a wonderful location.. The hotel has had lots of work done since we last visited.. Well worth a stop over on the way to Snowdon. Food is excellent, staff very friendly.

Because myself and my husband were residing here. We took the opportunity to dine.It wasn't very clear where the restaurant was however we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who showed us to our seat.We both ordered the tandoori chicken, which was very well presented and tasty. However, both myself and my husband felt that there wasn't enough chicken as it came out as a drumstick with too much rice. I would still come back again and try another dish.

Very scenic location and upgraded and refreshed during the last couple of years, Tyncornel is a lovely spot to stop for lunch or dinner, with friendly and helpful owners and staff and comfortable lounge and dining areas. The food was well presented with sufficient choice and a pleasant friendly ambience existed throughout.We stayed overnight, the accommodation was very good however as we were not in the main building if the weather was inclement we would need to have crossed a few yards to the main hotel through a nice garden and outside seating area - but not a problem on our visit.

Camping on a very rainy evening before a walk up Cadair Idris we walked to the pub we went to last time but it was closed, so walked to the other side of the lake to the hotel. We didn't have a reservation but the owner booked us a table there and then as they had some free (assume you normally have to book in advance). Food was lovely and service great. The minted lamb pie was a treat. Cheers guys!

We live not too far from this idyllic spot, so often bring visiting friends here to eat. We often have a lunch but have not yet eaten an evening meal. The staff are wonderful and very obliging. We usually have a range of filled rolls for lunch with coffee and the food is always nicely presented and of good quality. The area itself is beautifully scenic near Cadair Idris and the hotel sits at the end of the lake in a lovely tranquil spot. Certainly a place not to be missed.

The setting of the hotel at the edge of the lake is superb. We had a table by the window, so we could see the fantastic views whilst we were eating. There was plenty of choice on the menu and when the food arrived, it was first class, from the starter to the pudding. Staff were attentive without being in your face all the time. Excellent evening and highly recommended. Will definitely be going back

Well it's a bit of a conundrum, I leave a review and together with others that rate this very highly, and the danger is we may not be able to get a table at some future point.

Decided to eat here for a change, what a good move!! Food was really good, well cooked and well presented, Reasonably priced and came to the table quickly. Puddings were lovely too. Staff friendly and very helpful as one of our family is gluten free. Will be back soon! (And we had a fly past!)
