Ty'n y Cornel Hotel Restaurant in Gwynedd

A group of us took over the hotel for our annual car meeting, the staff, the food, the location was fantastic.The rooms were clean and comfortable and there is plenty of parking. Everyone in the group commented how brilliant the place is. Recommended.

What a location for a hotel and restaurant. We decided to let someone else cook our Sunday roast! Ordering the roast beef with the largest Yorkshire pudding I have ever seen! Very tasty dinner. Great pint of local beer.

Didn't stay here but had a lovely dinner by the lake - we had Sunday roasts which were best good, but definitely make sure to try the sticky toffee pudding, it was the star of the show!

Visited for Sunday lunch service and it was fantastic! We all opted for the Welsh lamb and it was delicious, cannot wait to go back. Very fast service and well looked after.

What an amazing place, where do I start, the views are amazing, we stayed in room 23 which had a log burner it was a miserable day, so we sat lit the log burner and looked at the brilliant views that we had from our window, by now we're feeling all relaxed, it's time to get ready for dinner so we time for a shower, which was so spacious, now the best part the food the service was brilliant we weren't waiting a long time to be served from starter to pudding everything was just right ( I could of licked the plate ) we'll definitely be back thank you to all the staff which made our stay so good 😊

Quite often have coffee here after a lake swim. Fabulous staff and a lovely relaxed atmosphere 😀. I really like this place.

An excellent hotel. Really well appointed. Bar and dining area good. The conservatory has splendid views over the lake. Our evening meal was superb. Plenty of parking. Love the fishing pictures.

We have visited Tyn y Cornel on a number of occasions for meals and drinks. The surroundings are stunning and the staff are friendly, always attentive and very accommodating. On this occasion we had pre-booked for Sunday lunch, as we were treating my wife's sister and her husband. The Prawn cocktail starters were amazing, with lots of prawns and sauce. The roast dinners came with a very generous portion of meat and a great selection of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. I cannot recommend the food more highly. The team at Tyn y Cornel are focused on providing a very high standard of service to their guests. I would highly recommend.

So came here after my friends recommended the afternoon tea & scones as I am visiting from Essex. When we walked in at 1:45 pm we were told there were no tables available & we must sit outside under the canopy. This was a lie & there was plenty of tables & chairs available inside. We were also lied to & told they had 21 people coming in at 3pm which is simply untrue. As we are still sitting here & no one has turned up at all. We were given paper cups & no service at all. Until we came back in to complain and ask for a proper cup & saucer. The impression we got was that they just couldn’t be bothered to offer us any kind of service. For what unknown reason we will never know as we wasn’t even offered an explanation or apology. Were I went in to complain about this he then lied to my face & said we could sit on the ‘soft furnishings inside’. The man who served us who I now know to be the supervisor was abrupt & his attitude was unacceptable & he needs more training if he wants to go further in hospitality. Just to make people aware that you too could receive his rubbish service so be prepared for this if you visit here as we are all totally shell shocked at his behaviour & attitude to paying customers. We won’t be returning here ever again. And would not recommend to friends or family either.

WE stayed here for one noght on late September, on the way up to exploring the peninusla, but I wish we'd made this our base! (I've just had to leave a terrible review for where were we next, and it made me realise I don't say enough when it's been brilliant) SO - It's brilliant here. Great room, wonderful staff who are attentive but not too attentive, amazing food! The most magical view. It's completely wonderful. The view and the food are amazing, seems like a genuinely happy place.

I first stayed at the hotel last year and we went back for a short stay again this week. The hotel is very good. The rooms are clean and well appointed and those overlooking the lake have a great view. Staff are friendly and helpful and the food (breakfast and dinner is our case) was very good indeed. I plan to return in the future

Lovely place with amazing scenery 😍

Stopped by here for a couple of nights whilst on a recent bike trip of Wales. This hotel was without doubt the best of our stays whilst on our tour. Lovely rooms, well appointed and well maintained. The restaurant was very nice and served very good food for a reasonable price. The hotel offers a lake side view which is beautiful when the weather allows its enjoyment. Parking is ample and within a moments walk from the hotel. Would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

Fabulous Hotel in a great location. The views are fabulous and garden areas well maintained. There menu had a good choice for an evening meal. Quality of food was very good and good value. Great choice for breakfast also. Only small complaint was that ou r room was not quite up to standard on cleaning, and lots of dirty skylights and windows across all areas of the Hotel hence couldn't give a 5* We've been a few times previously and will definitely return.

Refused to amend booking after I became ill and couldn't risk passing on to my 83 year old mother. Short notice so within their terms and conditions but surely a bit of leeway, not to cancel the booking but just amend. I've visited many times over the last 20 years but never again.

Tyn y Cornel Hotel is an amazing place to stay. The hospitality is exceptional, and the location offers breathtaking views. What truly stands out, however, are the desserts. Thank you for a fantastic meal. We visited with friends and ate in the main restaurant due to a wedding. The whole experience was excellent from start to finish. I had the lamb rump my husband had the fish and chips, our friend had the minted lamb pie. The food was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. We chose the berry fruit and ginger cheesecake and chocolate orange cake for dessert. The staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning again soon.

Myself and a friend (and my dog) stayed here for a weekend of walking and climbing Cader Idris. This is a fabulous hotel. Everything about our stay was perfect. Obviously the location is second to none with stunning views around the lake and across to Cader but the accommodation, food and service was absolutely second to none, particularly the food! Our twin room was clean and comfortable, we had our own balcony overlooking the lake and my dog was thoroughly spoiled by the staff (as well as most other residents!). The hotel has changing rooms for people who want to swim in the spring water lake and the whole weekend experience was absolutely the best. Can't fault it at all. Thank you!

Two friends and I had the wraps at lunchtime. All were tasty and thoroughly enjoyed but a particular nod to the beef with whole grains option as it was so fresh and tasty. The chips are also absolutely stunning, totally unique to anything I have seen before!

Visited last night for a birthday meal. We always love it here, scenery is stunning & food did not disappoint. Wow, we had slow belly pork & steak. My husband very rarely orders steak out as so often disappointed. He said steak was cooked to perfection 👌. It was a fantastic meal ( many thanks to chef) Staff were very welcoming & friendly 5 star 🌟 Great night out.

Beautiful place to wine and dine. I took my father and our family out for Father’s Day for a meal. The food was really nice, we had 3 courses which everyone was happy with. The service however was very disappointing. Had a drinks order wrong, had a drinks order that didn’t turn up and when I was halfway through my food I went up to get this to which I was told to join a queue at the bar (I told them I was eating so please send my drinks to my table - waitress didn’t look bothered) we had no check backs throughout to see whether the food was okay and near the end of our meal they were decamping tables really loudly and talking loudly on how they “can’t wait to finish up and go” Food was great but such a let down to have such poor customer service.

Stunning views from the hotel and our room even in the rain. We ate at the hotel too so we didn't need to go back out again and it didn't disappoint. The food was great and lots of locally sourced options for food and drink.

Didn’t stay here but celebrated daughter’s 30th birthday. The service was fantastic, staff were so helpful and friendly. Food was awesome - I had the lamb rump which was so tender. Others had their open top pie with mash and their steaks were cooked perfectly.

Hotel situated in a privileged position by the lake, separated by a not very busy road. Very nice overall, however an expensive stay if you don’t like being talked to like a child, plus no communal areas after hours.

The location is gorgeous,the staff are all pleasant ,good food,rooms are nice and comfortable bed,breakfast was excellent,dining room is lovely with paintings and gorgeous lights and its a big room,the lounge had comfortable seats we could see the lake through our bed room window and lounge room,there is a nice garden at the back and a sitting area outside, we think it should have 4 stars ,I hope to come back next year so I can row the boat and skinny dip in the lake in the warmer weather.

Great place to stop off with great views

We stay local to this hotel a couple of times a year and always head there for drinks overlooking the lake and when possible a great quality meal. When we have managed to eat , it cant be faulted. However, on our last 4 vists we have been very disappointed with the customer management. Not sure if this is due to a change of management or poorly trained staff ? But it has put us off visiting there again. Last year I was charged for a drink I didn't order and then told by the bar person that I had ordered it. I turned a blind eye to that but then the next day when calling for a meal, was turned away because ' we dont have enough staff' ! Yesterday when ordering drinks, was served plastic glasses, which if I had been told, I would not have ordered. If I were at a festival or big sporting event, maybe plastic glasses are acceptable but not at a quality hotel. My wife and I returned this evening to eat and were turned away again, this time because 'we are fully booked to non residents' again if it made clear that the restaurant is not open to residents, that is fine. I'm afraid that even though we love this hotel, having been turned away twice now in succession, I am sorry to say, we will not be returning in the future. Its a very lucky business that can afford to turn away paying customers.

Just a cup of coffee here but the view was super pretty. Staff also nice good for stopping here take a beer or coffee when sunny day

The room was a little small, but quirky and comfortable. The staff were polite and efficient. The did is out of this world, I'm very very fussy, but could not fault (not that I set out to do that) in any way! I will return, that's a given.

We have stayed here 4 times over the past few years and always look forward to our next visit. The food is good and the staff are very polite and helpful. On this visit we had an evening meal for 8pm and into the bar area by 9.30 pm to relax with a drink. But only to hear last orders at the bar being called at 9.50pm.I wasn't expecting that for a Saturday night, but we were able to take our drinks to our room.

Excellent stay, exceptional food and staff. It does get cold at night as I think they shut the heat off to the rooms for a short period.

I can highly recommend this place..The staff were absolutely brilliant..We had a 90th surprise birthday party..nothing was too much trouble..food and accommodation were absolutely amazing thank you..from all families..planning another in 3 years time..beautiful setting..couldn't fault it. They catered for 38 of us . Most of us stayed the night.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch. Choice of starters, mains and puddings was varied, something for everyone. Beautifully presented on the plate, tasted delicious. The portions were generous, you won't go home hungry. One of the nicest things was that we were not rushed in between courses,which often spoils it for me, lovely relaxed atmosphere. The front of house staff were friendly and professional. Going again soon.x

We stayed here last night ,The room was clean and beautiful bathroom had a bath and was fresh and clean. The restaurant was friendly amd welcoming. The staff were lively amd friendly amd the food was excellant.Can honestly say its the best place to stay if your around Machynlleth as we have stayed in most of the B&Bs. The view from the room of the lake is magical and the atmosphere amd scenery is Amazing amd I will be going back to stay there again the place is great and I felt happy while I was there .x

4 dogs, dogs pee, and dog smells. Astonishing. Whining, barking and messing. Hey ho, that's yet another place for us to avoid. Ps this was inside on their lovely wooden floor with their nice furniture. Why do premises let themselves down at the detriment of their other patrons? It's weird, but they do. Can you imagine being booked in for a break of a few days during the Winter when you can't really sit outside?

I have booked a room for 10th February, for myself and my partner, it’s a special birthday, almost Valentine’s Day anddd we get to find out the gender of our baby that day too! I have asked the hotel a few questions, and a few favours and they have been absolutely outstanding, so helpful and accommodating, I am really looking forward to meeting everyone who will have made this trip special for us! We've stopped here a fewvtimes to ise the restaurant or get a coffee. The food is very good and the staff are lovely.

So so beautiful and peaceful, the perfect lake-side hotel with great rooms and delicious food at the restaurant. Good base to walk from to climb Cader Idris or just around the lake. A peaceful and nourishing visit, look forward to returning again.

Delicious Christmas lunch with Aberdyfi Art Society today. The meal and service were faultless in beautifully decorated and cosy dining room. Always a joy to visit and many thanks to all the staff, especially the chef!

Really nice place to go for a Sunday lunch set by the beautiful Talyllyn lake.

It was a busy Thursday afternoon and we were taken in to the conservatory to eat. As it was the end of October it was cold but there wasn't a single radiator on either in the conservatory or the restaurant/lounge area. I asked if we could move to sit in the restaurant/lounge area and we were accommodated. However I had to keep my coat on to eat. They have an attractive wood burning stove in the middle of the room but only have a few burning candles for heat! We have visited this hotel many times as we are fairly local but have never seen the fire lit; summer or winter.....We decided to have soup, to warm us up, and it was tasty. However our choice was also governed by the fact that all the meals come with chips which not everyone wants. It is such a beautiful spot and an attractive building but the cold is not welcoming!

Family Sunday lunch, beautifully cooked and presented, between the 5 of us we had the venison (heavenly) the beef, lamb and salmon. All the accompanying veg was cooked to perfection. Deserts were equally good, prompt service, well looked after. So lucky to have this as our local!!

Spectacular tranquil setting, stunning view and we had glorious weather. Nice pre-lunch drinks by the lake. Sunday lunch was excellent, just the right portion size allowing room for a decent apple crumble. Nice selection of beer and wine. Main problem was what appeared to be a shortage of staff. We had to wait a long time to be seated, 45 mins to be served. However, we were not in a hurry and enjoyed the meal. I'm presuming this is a problem of the industry in general ie getting staff and no reflection on this establishment. Top tip if booking well in advance ask for a lake side view table.

Our reason for staying here was the location in terms of access to leisure activities. The sheer beauty of the location was a wonderful surprise. Added to that both dinner and breakfast were excellent, a clean and tidy room, and the staff are helpful and friendly. My particular room was a little on the small side, and although everything worked well, from an ergonomic perspective, the shower room was a triumph of design over function. I believe that this does not apply to most of the rooms, I just got the short straw. It wouldn't put me off coming again. And you can swim in the lake. Maybe next time.

After reading the reviews we were expecting so much more. On arrival we asked if we could start by having a drink outside in the sunshine - absolutely not was the abrupt response, you must come through immediately (to a half empty restaurant, which never changed). We ordered a bottle of wine that didn’t anrrive until half way through our main course - I chased it a few times until I felt the girl was done with my asking. Food was okay - billed as homemade but it was a frozen pie and frozen chips. Nothing special at all, and £16, but nothing to complain about. The big problem was the room. I read a previous review complaining about the ambience and wondered why it mattered so much, but I know exactly why now. We were in a large empty near-silent room on a table bang in the middle. Old fashioned dirty patterned carpet and furniture that looked like standard NHS issue. I could hear the people on other tables chewing their meat. It was mortifying. My partner observed that he felt like we were visiting someone in an old people’s home and he couldn’t have been any more accurate. I couldn’t wait to leave. It was just so awkward. We were in the large room at the back. Perhaps the conservatory would have been better, or being allowed outside even better. The room is crying out for some partitions, privacy, atmosphere, design. I’m not sure, but it is by far the most awkward and uncomfortable I think I’ve ever felt in a restaurant - I couldn’t wait to get out! It’s a shame because the building is old and could be incredible but whoever designed that back room needs to have a massive rethink.

Our b& b gave this as a possible place for an evening meal. Due to problems with their phones we were unable to book a table so we turned up ‘on spec’. We had a lovely meal. So good that we went back again! It was very reasonably priced, especially for the quality. Good beers and wine list and great staff. It’s positioning on the lake was an added bonus. Would definitely go back again.

Sunday lunch in this beautiful setting. Easily best Sunday lunch we’ve ever had. All cooked beautifully and so tasty - we all thought it was the best gravy ever!! Delicious. Friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely go back again ( tomorrow if they were doing Sunday lunch again 😀)

We had 3 nights away at this wonderful hotel on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. The view of the lake and surrounding hills is mesmerising - every time you look, you see something different. The room was large, comfortable and stylish with a huge walk in shower in the bathroom. With a log burner and rustic features and well chosen artworks, the room had been very thoughtfully put together. The staff at the hotel were all extremely helpful and attentive and they really made our stay enjoyable. Finally the food, well 3 courses of deliciousness every evening was included in our very reasonable dinner bed and breakfast rate and we were spoilt for choice on the menu. Ample portions, local produce, we wished we had stayed a week so that we could try all of the dishes!! Oh, and that's not to mention the breakfast which was also fab (I particularly enjoyed the smoked haddock and poached egg). All in all we would thoroughly recommend this absolute hidden gem of a hotel. Thank you!

Beautiful location by a lake with the drive down the valley offering incredible views. Sat out by the lake given the weather and it was perfect for an evening meal. Good choice on the menu.

After a long day's walking, what a joy. Benches by the lake, local ale & a good, honest slow cooked lamb rump. Service could not be more polite, helpful or well-intentioned. I share this with regret lest it is fully booked in the future, but it surely deserves to be.
