Must eat when you travel Bangor!

Bwyd Da (Good Food in English) is a relaxing cafe right in the centre of Bangor. Reasonable prices with very friendly staff. Having recently moved to Bangor it's now become my default cafe. There are a few gluten free options as well and there's a good community involvement. I had their Greek salad which was most impressive.

They've ditched the vegetarian options in favour of a 'vegan' menu. We eat here once a week and this is a crying shame. My options have been drastically reduced in favour of the recent vegan movement, and tbh, cheese made of oil (for ex) is not my idea of a healthy option! Also, tastes naff. Staff are fab, atmosphere os great, drinks options are very good indeed. But removing veggie options does mean I'll be going to Blue Sky more often instead.

Gorgeous cafe/restaurant in the middle of Bangor, the steak sandwich with tater tots was to die for! Lovely coffee as well and great atmosphere. Staff very knowledgeable about the menu.

I had no idea about the place before I walked in looking for coffee during a visit to the city. I ended up having brunch. Loved the Ultimate Beans on Toast. Sourdough toast, homemade beans (not out of a tin), cheese, crispy onions and chilli. I read up on the place, love their ethical outlook and the fact that they engage recovering substance abuse addicts as staff. What a great community place. My own town could learn from this.

Popped in for Breakfast, from the second you walked in you felt at home. Food and Service was fantastic....highly recommended

Called in for breakfast,waffles,crispy bacon,egg,and sausages,maple syrup. Delicious food,freshly prepared,

went into bwyd DA . the last time I went I didn't want two items of the full breakfast. no replacement same price Ronan wasn't to nice when there was about 6 of us. this time I was in bwyd DA and our lovely tam was servicing us. she is always present and friendly and make me smile every time I see her. a great member of the team

Fantastic staff, great food at a reasonable price!

Breakfast only option at 11.15 Sunday, but what a treat! A vegan breakfast was the best breakfast I've ever had and I'm a carnivore. Would not hesitate to recommend this. Three of us ate for half the price of Dylans so brill value, finished with sourdough toast washed down with a latte frappe. Truly Brilliant!!

Great place, lovely food. The community involvement of the restaurant is a nice touch as well, so you can pay a meal forward.

1st time at visiting bwyd da and overall very positive experience. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the food options are very varied, oat milk and kombucha being available was very good. The only disappointment being that the vegetarian breakfast was served with tofu and the black pudding, would have much preferred to have had mushrooms and grilled tomatoes, however the vegetarian sausages (vegetable based rather than meat alternative) were lovely and an added bonus. Will defo try again tho

Decided to take refuge from the rain, and enjoyed an amazing coffee, and a slice of cake . Cosy atmosphere, great friendly service , and nice to relax and unwind . Great accessibility, along with good toilet facilities. Dog friendly, which is always a plus

Walked in got a table menu sparse was told not doing main menu wife didn't like anything on the menu so we walked out and went to Clio Lounge and had lovely food and service

Overall Experience - good place to chill 1. Big breakfast - toast nicely done, bacon is salty, sausage is too mushy in middle, would prefer if there’s more mushroom, black pudding has a unique taste to it, hash brown average, overall pretty standard 2. Service - friendly staff 3. Serving time - 25 mins 4. Affordability - a bit pricy 5. Atmosphere - clean

Lovely atmosphere! You can tell that the owners and workers are proud and care about the establishment. The only thing is I wish there are more vegan options

An update on my last review below: 12DEC... Dropped in for a Sunday lunch at Bwyd Da after a cold and wet Remembrance Service. Needed a warm welcome and good food. We got both, in spades today. A limited menu but better that and get piping hot, excellent food. The Boss had tomato soup with cheese on toast with lamb for main. I chose spicy squid followed by sirloin beef (choice of rare or well done). All courses gave quality, quantity and taste. So much soup and chicken that we asked for it to be boxed up for later, which was willingly provided. Attentive and friendly service (thanks Brad 😁) and a nice vibe. Chefs working hard and a steady flow of customers. The cost for all food and couple drinks was a reasonable at under 50 quid. 5 Star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Last review about 4 months ago: This is on our regular list. Decent food at decent prices. Nice, efficient staff. Clean premises, good location in Bangor town centre. You can go to the rear for a sit down meal or front of house for a coffee n cake.

I come here every Thursday with my client and we are never disappointed! Excellent customer service,fantastic food,plenty to choose from.

I don't make a point of complaining but this was the worst meal I have had in ages. Garden burger......expensive for what it was, so many better choices locally, I am not alone in thinking it has gone down hill, shame because it is a good concept. The meal was not enjoyed and the flavours were totally ruined by a blackened, burnt onion bahji.I didn't expect oven chips! The staff were helpful and I got a part refund.I had difficulty leaving as my arms were stuck to the greasy table. Again sorry to be negative, disappointed to put it mildly.

Would highly recommend this wonderful restaurant! The food was delicious and not something we’ve tried before. The atmosphere was relaxing and warm with such friendly staff. The ox cheek burger was soft and the sauce with the oggie tasted lovely, the green beans that came on the side had such a nice crunch and was a great complement to the flavourful food. Also had some great tasting coffee and all for a reasonable price.

This is a great place! Such friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere and a great breakfast! They were very accommodating, we arrived as they were stopping serving breakfast but they let us order breakfast. Very friendly owner too!

Friendly, tasty, fresh and worth a visit

The best Sunday lunch in Bangor, staff are friendly, service is quick. The food is delicious, roast beef cooked to your taste.

I wanted to like this cafe; I like the idea of the box scheme, the deli, the music space. Just went for lunch with my partner, I asked for the cheese and onion chutney panini. They brought what looked like a different panini, I asked "is the cheese and onion one" and was told yes. I started eating it: it wasn't. Meanwhile my partner's burger was burnt. No one came to ask if our food was ok, I think the guy who served us had gone for his break. Another waitress came to clear tables after a little while, we got her attention and told her the problems with the food. She said she'd get the manager. After another little while, the manager came and was very nice and said she'd bring the sandwich I actually ordered and would get my partner something else. I ate mine, partner was still disappointed with his and didn't eat any of it. We thought someone might come to check on us, they didn't. Eventually we got up, and were hastily grabbed by a staff member and told we had to pay (he'd just been hanging around by the till for a while by then and could have come over to take payment/ask us if the food was ok, which you think he'd do if it's meant to be table service, especially as there was one other customer sitting at the time 🤷). We were told we had to pay for the quarter-eaten burger, which was considerably more expensive than the completely-uneaten panini my partner got as a replacement. We were told the burger was "meant to be like that", that the replacement panini was "absolutely fine", nothing wrong with it, and that they "couldn't just give away free food", although my partner basically still hasn't eaten lunch. Again, I wanted to like this place. If you're going to to table service you have to actually DO table service though, and you can't try to charge someone for an expensive item that you then substituted a cheaper replacement for.

I genuinely can't understand why this place has good reviews. This was one of the single worst restaurant experiences of my life. I ordered a burger, my wife ordered a sandwich. They brought her the wrong sandwich and my burger was disgusting and burnt and dry. I had two bites and couldn't eat any more, so we asked for something different. When I explained that the burger was dry and burned and gross, I was told it was supposed to be like that. If that's true, that's worse, as it was absolutely awful. It seemed to me that they'd been aiming for a little char and ended up making straight charcoal instead. The manager then brought my wife the correct sandwich and for me, an Italian panini that wasn't burned but was also gross to the point that I could not eat it. We were told it was table service, so we waited 20 minutes for anyone to come over so I could explain that I wasn't able to eat the sandwich either. Nobody ever came. When we finally went to pay, they told me that I had to pay for the burned burger because they'd given me a free sandwich and they "can't just go around giving out loads of free food." I explained to the manager that I hadn't been able to eat either item, and that I'd happily pay for my wife's sandwich and our drinks, but that it made no sense for me to pay for food that was inedible. The manager said I still had to pay for the burger, as I'd eaten half of it and then they provided a replacement. I've never had an experience like this in a restaurant in my life. Maybe they treat regulars different from new people, but we were eager to come back here and try the food. This was very disappointing. Do yourself a favor. If you're in Bangor and you want a sandwich, go literally anywhere else. Go to Subway. You'll have better food there.

Large seating area, excellent service from an assistant who displayed an excellent sense of humour. Cafe is highly recommended. The cakes are delicious.

Always a very friendly service, food and chai latte are always really tasty. If you have food allergies mention it. It's such a friendly customer service, they do take care of you and make sure you are a satisfied customer. Prices are good too.

Good cafe, reasonably priced. Nice ethos behind the cafe. There was live music when we ate in which was okay, although we were sat a little close when there was a break and not forewarned 😅. Overall was a fine experience.

Lovely busy cafe with great food and friendly staff

As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a group of lovely cheerful people. The place was buzzing and very busy. The price is incredibly reasonable and the food was absolutely delicious. I'll be seeing you again, definitely recommend!!

Fabulous meal last night with Occasional Cinema. Both the meat and the vegetarian option looked amazing. I had the vegetarian option and it was absolutely delicious. My companions had the meat and said it was excellent. And the pudding was exquisite

Absolutely loved this place. Two adults and two kids, mixed meat eating and vegetarians, there was something for everyone. The menu was great in terms of selection available. We had a meat and vegetarian platter, both were stunning. The service was amazing (I'm so sorry I can't remember the ladies name, she had just come back from holiday), we had such a laugh and we were looked after like royalty. Would definitely recommend to anyone near by and if we ever find ourselves in the area again we will without hesitation go again.

Fantastic staff , they went above and beyond for my family , we had a fantastic experience, you don't get the personal touch in Restaurants or cafe's these days but this place is Wow , I highly recommend, the food was fantastic the serving staff were so helpful and friendly , the chef was amazing too , i would give 100 stars if I could , what an amazing place I would say little but its so spacious , the toilet facilities even had the personal touch and extremely clean , our experience was beyond comfortable, the staff were like a family which made it even better because they were all comfortable with eachother and confident , thankyou for an amazing dining experience.

First visit to this place even though it's been open a good while. Nice large restaurant with lots of personal space which I really like. Very clean throughout and very nice accessible toilets. Staff were very attentive and the seating, ordering and food arrival happened in good succession - so very impressed. There was a good choice of items on the menu, but I'd say the main clientele would likely be Vegetarian/Vegan and the menu reflects this, but the full breakfast and fish & chips is on the menu, so we didn't starve. Food was really well cooked and lots of it, so would definitely recommend this place.

Toasted teacakes bought in specially now appears it has caught on, drat they ran out. Lovely place, lovely coffee, lovely people oh and lovely food 😋 😘

I had lunch with my 11 year old granddaughter,it was great I so many ways.Menu had a great choices and the young lady even proactively adapted my grandaughters sandwich when she could see she was struggling to choose.Staff are helpful and friendly,great customer service and good value for money.I will be back very soon

Lovely friendly staff, food was delicious. Came here because I have to eat gluten free. Was a bit disappointing to see that the 'gluten free' verson of the all day brunch was just the same dish with the sausages and black pudding removed. Nothing extra instead, and the same price as the full version. Not great when most decent sausages are gluten free anyway, and GF black pudding is readily available. Would at the very least expect an extra egg and some extra bacon.
